What is Asatru?
Long before Christianity came to northern Europe, the people there – our ancestors – had their own form of spirituality that influenced every aspect of their culture. One expression of this European spirituality was Asatru. It was practiced in the lands that are today Scandinavia, England, Germany, France, the Netherlands, and other countries as well. Asatru is the original, or native, religion for the peoples who lived in these regions. Nevertheless, Asatru is more than just a religion in the narrow sense of the word. It is our way of being in the world; some of us call it the “Germanic Folkway” to underline this larger concept.
What does the word “Asatru” mean?
It means, roughly, “belief in the Gods” or “those true to the Gods” in Old Norse, the language of ancient Scandinavia in which so much of our source material was written. (A more literal translation would be “gaining experience of the ancestral sovereign gods.”) Asatru is a name given to the religion of the Norsemen, but we use this term to include the spiritual worldview of all the Germanic peoples, not just the Scandinavians.
When did Asatru start?
Asatru is thousands of years old (though it is practiced in a modern form today, to meet the needs of our age). Its beginnings are lost in prehistory, but it is older than Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, or most other religions. The spirit it expresses, though, is as ancient as the northern European peoples themselves because it is an innate expression of who and what we are – not merely a set of arbitrary beliefs we have adopted.
Why do we need Asatru? Aren’t most people who want religion satisfied with Christianity or one of the other “established” religions?
People are attracted to the better-known religions because they have genuine spiritual needs which must be filled. People are looking for community, fellowship, and answers to the “big questions”: the purpose of life, how we should live it, and what happens after death. For many people today, the so-called major faiths do not have answers that work. Asatru does. Once seekers realize that there is another way – a way that is true to our innermost essence – they will not be satisfied with anything less than a return to the Way of their ancestors.
Why is the religion of our ancestors the best one for us?
Because we are more like our ancestors than we are like anyone else. We inherited not only their general physical appearance, but also their predominant mental, emotional, and spiritual traits. We think and feel more like they did; our basic needs are most like theirs. The religion which best expressed their innermost nature – Asatru – is better suited to us than is some other creed which started in the Middle East among people who are essentially different from us. Judaism, Islam, and Christianity are alien religions that do not truly speak to our souls.
Why did Asatru die out if it was the right religion for Europeans?
Asatru was subjected to a violent campaign of repression over a period of hundreds of years. Countless thousands of people were murdered, maimed, and exiled in the process. The common people (your ancestors!) did not give up their cherished beliefs easily. Eventually, the monolithic organization of the Christian church, bolstered by threats of economic isolation and assisted by an energetic propaganda campaign, triumphed over the valiant but unsophisticated tribes.
Or so it seemed! Despite this persecution, elements of Asatru continued down to our own times – often in the guise of folklore – proving that our own native religion appeals to our innermost beings in a fundamental way. Now, a thousand years after its supposed demise, it is alive and growing. Indeed, so long as there are men and women of European descent, it cannot really die because it springs from the soul of our people.
Asatru isn’t just what we believe, it’s what we are.
Wasn’t the acceptance of Christianity a sign of civilization – a step up from barbarism?
No. The so-called “barbarians” who followed Asatru (the Vikings, the various Germanic tribes, and so forth) were the source of our finest civilized traditions – trial by jury, parliaments, Anglo Saxon Common Law, the right to bear arms, and the rights of women, to name a few. Our very word “law” comes from the Norse language, not from the tongues of the Christian lands. We simply did not, and do not, need Christianity or other Middle Eastern creeds in order to be civilized.
You say Asatru was the religion of the Vikings, among other early European cultures. Weren’t they a pretty bloodthirsty lot?
Modern historians agree that the Vikings were no more violent than the other peoples of their times. Remember, the descriptions of Viking raids and invasions were all written by their enemies, who were hardly unbiased. Both the Islamic and Christian cultures used means every bit as bloody, if not more so, than the Norsemen. It was a very rough period in history for all concerned!
We keep talking about the Vikings. Does this mean that Asatru is only for people of Scandinavian ancestry?
No. Asatru, as practiced by the Norse peoples, had so much in common with the religion of the other Germanic tribes, and with their cousins the Celts, that it may be thought of as one version of a general European religion. Asatru is a natural religion for all people of European origin, whether or not their heritage is specifically Scandinavian.
What are the basic tenets or beliefs of Asatru?
We believe in an all-pervading divine essence which is beyond our immediate understanding. We further believe that this spiritual reality is interdependent with us – that we affect it, and it affects us.
We believe that this divine essence expresses itself to us in the forms of the Gods and Goddesses. Stories about these deities are like a sort of code, the mysterious “language” through which the divine reality speaks to us.
We believe in standards of behavior which are consistent with these spiritual truths and harmonious with our deepest being.
How does Asatru differ from other religions?
Asatru is unlike the better-known religions in many ways. Some of these are:
• We are polytheistic. That is, we believe in a number of deities, including Goddesses as well as Gods. (We have a tongue-in-cheek saying that a religion without a Goddess is halfway to atheism!)
• We do not accept the idea of “original sin,” the notion that we are tainted from birth and therefore intrinsically bad. Thus, we do not need “saving.”
• We do not claim to be a universal religion, a faith for all of humankind. In fact, we don’t think such a thing is possible or desirable. The different branches of humanity have different ways of looking at the world, each of which is valid for the ancestral group in question. It is only right that they have different religions.
Do you consider the Norse myths to be true?
The myths are stories about the Gods and Goddesses of Asatru. We believe they are ways of stating spiritual truths. That is, we would say they contain truths about the nature of divinity, our own nature, and the relationship between the two. We do not contend that the myths are literally true, as history. Rather, myth can be thought of as “the dream of the race” or “that which never happened, but is always true.”
What about these Gods and Goddesses? Are they real?
Yes, they are real. However, just as most Christians do not think their God is really an old bearded figure sitting on a golden chair in heaven, we do not believe Thor (for example) is actually a muscular, man-shaped entity carrying a big hammer. There is a real Thor, but we approach an understanding of him through this particular mental picture.
Do followers of Asatru pray to their Gods and Goddesses?
Yes, but not quite the way most people mean by the word. We never surrender our will to theirs or humble ourselves before them, because we see ourselves as their kin, not as their property. Nor do we beg and plead. We do, however, commune with them and honor them while seeking their blessing through formal rites and informal meditation. Actually, living a full and virtuous life is a form of prayer in itself. Our religion should affect all parts of our lives, not just some fragments that we choose to call “religious.”
Don’t you worship stones and trees and idols?
No. We know that trees, wooden statues, the Sun, and other natural or man-made objects are not Gods, so we don’t worship them. We do sometimes use these items as reminders of a God or Goddess, but we would never confuse them with the actual deity!
You mentioned certain standards of behavior taught in Asatru. What are these?
Some of the qualities we hold in high regard are strength, courage, joy, honor, freedom, loyalty to kin, realism, vigor, and the revering of our ancestors. To express these things in our lives is virtuous, and we strive to do this. Their opposites – weakness, cowardice, adherence to dogma rather than to the realities of the world, and the like – constitute our vices and are to be avoided. Proper behavior in Asatru consists of maximizing one’s virtues and minimizing one’s vices.
This code of conduct reflects the highest and most heroic ideals of our people.
Don’t all religions believe in these things you’ve just named?
No. People may honestly believe that this is the case, but examination does not bear this out. They believe in freedom on the one hand, yet at the same time admit they are slaves to their God. They agree that joy is good, but their teachings laden them with guilt because of some imaginary “original sin.” They want to accept the real world on a pragmatic basis, yet they are trained to believe without questioning when the teachings of their religion conflict with reason or with known facts about the nature of the world (“You must have faith.”).
Of course, many people believe in the values of Asatru on a gut level. After all, they’re instinctive, passed down to us from our ancestors. We want to believe that the better-known religions espouse those values, so we see what we want to see. Most people just haven’t yet realized that the major religions are saying things that conflict with the values we know in our hearts are right. To find European virtues, one has to look to a religion truly consistent with those virtues – Asatru.
What do you have to say about good and evil?
Good and evil are not constants. What is good in one case will not be good in another, and evil in one circumstance will not be evil under a different set of conditions. In any one instance, the right course of action will have been shaped by the influence of the past and the present. The result may or may not be “good” or “evil,” but it will still be the right action.
In no case are good and evil dictated to us by edicts written by an authoritarian deity. We are expected to use our freedom, responsibility, and awareness of duty to serve the highest and best ends.
What does Asatru teach about an afterlife?
We believe that there is an afterlife, and that those who have lived lives of virtue and power will go on to experience greater fulfillment, pleasure, and challenge. Those who have led lives characterized by vice, weakness, and a low level of consciousness will be separated from kin, doomed to a vegetative state of dullness and gloom. The precise nature of the afterlife – what it will look like and feel like – is beyond our understanding and is dealt with symbolically in the myths.
There is also a tradition in Asatru of rebirth within the family line. Perhaps the individual is able to choose whether or not he or she is re-manifested in this world, or there may be natural laws governing this. In a sense, of course, we all live on in our descendants quite apart from an afterlife as such.
To be honest, we of Asatru do not overly concern ourselves with the next world. We live here and now, in this existence. If we do this and do it well, the next life will take care of itself.
Does Asatru involve ancestor worship?
Asatru says we should honor our ancestors. It also says we are bonded to those ancestors in a special way. One of the implications of this relationship is that the ancestors need our veneration, and that they reciprocate by looking out for us from beyond death.
We also believe our forebears have passed to us certain spiritual qualities just as surely as they have given us various physical traits. They live on in us. The family or clan is above and beyond the limits of time, space, and mortality.
Does Asatru have a holy book, like the Bible?
No. There are written sources that are useful to us because they contain much of our sacred lore in the form of myths and examples of right conduct, but we do not accept them as infallible or inspired documents. Any religion holding such beliefs of infallibility is deceived about the purity and precision of the written word.
There are two real sources of holy truth, and neither expresses itself to us in words. One is the universe around us, which is a manifestation of the underlying divine essence. The other is the universe inside us, passed down from our ancestors as instinct, emotion, innate predispositions, and perhaps even racial memory. By combining these sources of internal and external wisdom with the literature left us by our ancestors, we arrive at religious truths. This living spiritual guidance is better than any dusty, dogmatic “holy book”.
I’ve heard Asatru described as a “Nature religion”. What does that mean?
We treasure the spiritual awe, the feeling of “connecting” with the Gods and Goddesses, which can come from experiencing the beauty and majesty of Nature. Our deities act in and through natural law. By working in harmony with Nature we can become co-workers with the Gods. This attitude removes the opposition between “natural” and “supernatural”, and the supposed conflict between religion and science.
For us, following a “Nature religion” means recognizing that we are part of Nature, subject to all its laws. We may be Gods-in-the-making, but we are members of the animal kingdom nonetheless!
Where did the universe come from, according to Asatru?
Our myths describe the beginning of the universe as the unfolding of a natural process, rather than an event requiring supernatural intervention. Followers of Asatru need not abandon modern science to retain their religion. The old lore of our people describes the interaction of fire and ice, and the development of life from these – but this is symbolic, and we will leave it to the physicists to discover how the universe was born.
What are the runes, and what do they have to do with Asatru?
Runes are ancient Germanic symbols representing various concepts or forces in the universe – the holy mysteries. Taken together, they express our ancestors’ worldview. Their meanings are intimately connected with the teachings of Asatru. Our myths tell the story of how Odin, father of the Gods, won them through painful ordeal so that Gods and humans alike might benefit from their wisdom.
How is Asatru organized?
There is no all-powerful spiritual leader who speaks for all of Asatru, but there are numerous leaders who speak to and for their particular constituencies. While Asatru has definite principles accepted by most of our adherents, we generally allow a considerable degree of freedom in interpreting religious truth.

When many people hear the word “ancestor”they instantly think of the blood relatives that they
know of. However the word ancestor is more fluid. Ancestors come in many forms.
They can be spirit beings of water, air, fire, earth, the blood ancestors of your lineage, elevated ancestors – those you don’t know, and the adopted ancestors or guardians who have chosen to work with you in past and present life times (which come in the form of Ascended Masters, Deity’s , Goddesses, Angels, Spirit Animals, Star Travelers, and more.)
These are those who came before you, that opened the way for you to be here, who prayed for you before they knew you.
All are those who worked for your future. Whether we are in tune or not, they walk among us.
They are in our blood, in our bones, and when they heal, we are uplifted. I have come to believe that our ancestors answer our prayers first.
Native American culture believes the ancestors are very much alive and are with us in the present time constantly. There is a belief that there was no real death, just a change of worlds.
This means the ancestors are very much alive spiritually as they were when they were here physically. They just reside in the spirit world.
To many shaman of South Africa, Ancestors are the center of their work – connecting them to the rest of the spirit realm. Their traditional beliefs include what western science is now validating.
When we do our own inner healing, we heal 7 generations forward and 7 generations back.
This stems from the fact that the memories, traumas, pains, as well as the power and wisdom of our ancestors, runs through our blood – stored in our energetic, mental, emotional and physical bodies.
Honoring our ancestors does not have to always be through ritual or ceremony. Honoring your ancestors is how you choose to live your life.
The path that you walk. It is choosing to heal, forgive, walk with honor and pride, and to keep their knowledge and memories alive through us.
The greatest way we can honor them is through teaching the children. Bringing back balance and respect for the natural world we live in.
Respect for the elderly, respect for Mother Earth and respect for all things living. Ask yourself "how am I living and would my ancestors be proud"?

THE GERMANIC TREFOT AND TRIFUNCTIONALITY
The number three takes a prominent numerical place in our faith, evidenced in our mythology, all Indo-European myths, symbols, theology and culture. The simple and organic numerology symbolised in the trefot symbol of the Odinic Rite serves to illustrate a basic theme of our troth and culture, that of functionalism, namely trifunctionality.
The great Indo-European mythologist and scholar, George Dumezil popularised trifunctionality in his writings; “The Tripartite Ideology of the Indo-Europeans;” “The two sovereigns of the Indo-Europeans;” and “Gods of the Ancient northmen.” Dumezil, as many of you will know, discovered a common tri-partite or trifunctional structure in most Indo-European theological pantheons.
The first function is the sovereign or kingly function, often shared by two divine functions, the judge and the priest. In German myth this would be Tyr and Odin. The Christians consolidated both to conform to the biblical deity Yahweh, but gave him the declined form of the Gothic name of Odin (which is Goden or godan, declined to ‘God’).The second function is the warrior class, ruled by Thor and the third function is the provisional class of fertility deities: for our faith this would be the Vanir.

Odin is just another name for Shiva. Rudra/Shiva/Mahakala and Odin line up closely. Vedic/Indian/Tibetan and norse magick evoke the same deity in one form or another. Norse runes are also related to Turkish runes, wow, that's a lot to talk about. Germanics speak a turkish language, their gods have turkish origins and turkish names, and germanics also had a turkish culture like horse-flesh eating. There are gokturkic runes that pre-date all futhark runes by centuries in Mongolia and tales of eight legged horses are found in Kazakhstan as well, relating to the nomadic oxen+horse combination most travelled with. Yggdrasil is Ygac a Sil in turkic meaning "Noble world tree" and Asgard is Askal Gol (City Lake). Ostrogoth comes from Austergok, auster coming from Latin meaning southeasterly and gok coming from gokturk. It literally means southeasterly turk. Same with Ostrohun.
Also, Tyr used to rule before Odin so a migration from "Tyrkland" as the scepter is passed makes sense.

Allergies and Hay Fever
Can we have a thread about allergies and hay fever and how to overcome them? A fifth of white world population actually has hay fever and I don't yet see how these people could be integrated into sovereign pagan tribes. In my opinion, allergies are a early sign of the weakening of humanity and foreshadow the poison inflicted dependency and degeneration to come. I mean, allergy-rates are dramatically rising and the affected are dependent on medication. To me, it is a serious impediment to get closer to a life according to my ideals.

Any other Norwegians, Swedes, Danes, Ålanders, Faeroye or Icelanders here on /asatru/? The true blood descendants of the Norse.
We are their direct descendants. We live on their soil and we all speak languages that are descendant from old Norse. This alone makes it a lot easier for us to study since we can visit their burials, read their original texts, visit their (surviving) holy sites and ultimately get much closer to our ancestors than for example Norwegian-Americans. (Though there is a lot of Scandinavian Viking burial sites and monoliths on the American east coast. Findings suppressed by the Smithsonian, but that is another topic.)
What the ultimate purpose of this thread is. Is for us Scandinavians/Norse to help each other on our personal quests to awaken Odin within us. Because of the Nordic Passport Union, we can freely travel between our countries to visit archeological sites, burials, cave paintings, museums and etc. So information regarding these sites in our own countries would be greatly appreciated since we can visit them with ease.
Because our languages are so similar, we can read each other's languages with ease or with at least, a short learning curve. So the sharing and recommending of literature, journals, and websites in our own languages are also appreciated.
Others are of course welcome in this thread, but this thread is primarily intended for us Scandinavians. I feel this is necessary because there is so much material in our own languages that are available to us that if I feel like it makes sense to make a thread about it.

This August is said to be good for working rituals. Tonight is a new moon and Lammas/Freyfaxi is tomorrow, starting August off on a Wednesday. Then there will be two new moons this month, the other on the 30th. It's thought to be a good time for reversing anything troubling you or just creating a new reality for yourself. If you don't care for the astrological aspect, then there isn't much else for the month with only Asatru's Remembrance for Radbod, King of the Frisians, on August 9th. For August 1st, my recommendation would be to at least get outside and buy food to enjoy the day and hold a feast for the night, and then ask the gods to help you make changes tomorrow. Over in the UK, they are having festivals tomorrow in some areas. Iowa also has a LammasFest from the 2nd to 4th, a small event but anyone in the area might meet new people there.

Hello anons, I'm attempting to formulate an idea, so let me know what you think. I'd appreciate any feedback:
Religion
The benefits of religion are many. Religion is positively correlated with birthrates, social cohesion/ a high trust society, and personal happiness.
A religion should always aim for the truth. Otherwise it is vulnerable to empircal attack and can be rejected by it's adherents. This has happened with Christianity in white nations.
What is worthy of veneration and also "true"?

>nature (the earth, the soil, the sun)
>virtu (strength, honor, courage)
>wisdom
>beauty
And probably some other points I have missed.
All these are objects or ideas which certainly exist and are worthy of veneration. Of these, the one most important is one's people. I do not have an arguement to support this, but I hypothesize that anyone I ask would say the same. The argument can be made that you can't have one's people without nature, the what does nature matter without one's people. The same applies for the other items.
Notice this list contains no dieties. Why should dieties, which cannot be shown to exist, take precedence above one's people? Even if a religion supports the prosperity and continuation of one's people, why would you place the diety first and the people second?

Rune Computer System
Hi, I've been inspired by the music of MBR to look into creating a "runic" based operating system. I'm wondering has anyone given it thought on how to divide up a regular keyboard for runic lettering? Of course such runes like Ti ( T ) and Beorc ( B ) could take the place of Latin characters but what about the order of the runes, such as keeping with a "fuþark" sequence as that is also important.
I've been thinking of using Saxon runes from the "Seax of Beagnoth" as my model for the font.

Now for numbers, I have seen base10 numbers used in late Runnic Calendars (those q's with lines on them) but in the older ones base19 numbers are used due to the lunar cycle.

Base19 while effective on a calendar might not be an effective system for numbering and so since the Younger Futhark was already used as part of the base19 system using the Younger Futhark runes as base16 numbers is clear.
Slightly off topic though in the spirit of the thread, the base16 of the Younger Futhark has rattled me for another reason. In Havamal, Odin counts "18" runes but none of the known systems have 18 runes but there is a weird formula where it makes sense. Younger Futhark has 16 runes and Elder Futhark has 24 runes, if you write the base10 number "24" in base16 you get 0x18 (0x10 = 16 and 0x08 =8, 16+8=24). Which I think is weird and is either some kind of multi-century coincidence or the systems were authored that way. I don't know.

I'm half german and half turkish. I look completly german, except for my hair and eye color (which is brown).

MEAD IS SOMA
Mead plays an important role in rituals among European pagans whether Celtic, Asatru, or Slavic. I was reading through The Rig Veda and saw there numerous references to honey in connection with soma. That leads me to suspect soma may have been mead. There was on verse that said something about soma making the heart gentle. When I drink mead I feel my heart open and relaxed.
Mead is honey wine that was prevalent through western Europe prior to grape wine being more popular, both are similar though. The longest lived person in recorded history is Jeanne Calment who lived to 122 and drank a glass of red wine daily. The japanese author Yukio Takizawa in his book Sake health and Longevity states that MODERATE consumption of sake(japanese rice wine) helps people live long lives, whereas people who drink lots of alcohol or people who don't both live less long on average than people who drink a moderate amount.
I suspect the tree of life in the bible is actually the grape vine due to the association of moderate wine consumption with longevity. One of the Frankish kings was found with many golden bee figures in his burial chamber perhaps done so that we would be supplied with mead in the afterlife. Soma is associated with long life, if wine and sake promote long life in moderation then I suspect so would mead.
My experience with drinking wine and beer is that I think the carbonation from beer may contribute to hang over or bad physical effects because wine doesn't give me a hangover, well I don't drink to excess so perhaps that is it. Jeanne Calment is reported to have had one glass of wine a day. Both Norse and Celtic peoples had mead halls.
Jeanne Calment famously said that if she can't do anything about something she doesn't worry about it. In addition to valuing calmness she also valued a sense of humor, they say laughter is the best medicine. I don't know if it's the best but I know it's a medicine.

Why Rightist Paganism needs to change
Right wing iterations of Neo-Paganism almost invariably fail as viable and meaningful resuscitations of the old ways for the same reason; they habitually fail to really include genuine spiritual content. This is because this scene on the whole has an overwhelming aversion towards "the occult", and this would seem to be born of a desire to not seem too unpalatable to atheists and even Christians, and is symptomatic of deep internalization of these worldviews (which actually share a great deal in common)
I already know many of you reading this are internally wincing. "The fucking occult? Seriously? Get outta here with your degenerate satanist/wicca/jewish shit!" Well here's the thing - genuine European Paganism is not neatly separable from the occult. In fact its very much a part of it.
As far as I can tell from six or so years of participating in online communities dedicated to reviving the ways of our ancestors to countermand Christianity as part of the broader European ethno-nationalist resurgence, pre-Thulean Perspective Varg being my entry point, I've seen little to nothing which could be described as genuine spiritual discussion, practice or instruction for potential converts. What I've seen plenty of is vague speculation about history and purely materialistic rationalizations of Paganism was supposedly all about, but no hands on spirituality. At best, the Gods are treated as real, but vague and distant like the Christian god. Any occult Pagans out there certainly keep quiet about it, likely to avoid attracting ire, thus leaving new entrants without content to follow.
This is all seems to be because the scene/movement at large only draws on historical (or pseudo-historical) and political/philosophical material as its sources, rejecting occult literature with atheistic/Christian reasoning that such things are irrational and/or morally corrupt and certainly alien to our people.
The thing is, the sorcery of our ancestors was and is very much real, and its only through practices associated with, for lack of a better term, "the occult", that we can have real first hand relations with our Gods. It doesn't necessarily matter if those practices aren't exactly the same ones used in antiquity, for example calling upon Aesir and Vanir to empower sigils. But the important thing is that this works, extremely well, and puts us in direct communion with the Gods themselves.
The fact of the matter is we need to start approaching Heathenism as a spiritual system, not just a causal worldview or philosophy. It will always fail because Paganism without magic and spirituality is ultimately empty and meaningless, a fraud, a larp. I understand your apprehension, the occult scene is full of types who don't necessarily seem very palatable to right wing people, but consider the fact that they are interacting with real Pagan gods and undergoing spiritual alchemy whilst rightists are busy speculating about this and that based on scant historical records. We need to get real here. Otherwise we'll only let this problem deepen, and the spiritual wellbeing of our people will never recover.

How Pagan Were You Today?
Hey guys I'm getting back into the movement but I don't have anyone to be pagan with. So today I went for a hike by myself and enjoyed the beauty of nature. Took my slingshot with me and almost hit a bird. I was going to take a poop in a cave but it looked too unsafe so I held it in until I got back home. What are we supposed to do in nature to like, commune with it? My partner is an atheist and doesn't care about these things.
At night I listened to some folk music like vid related, and read Lord of the Rings. I feel like I should say a prayer to the gods before sleeping and upon waking, but I don't know how to do it officially.

My family is Southern Baptist and Pentecostal. While it was taught to me and I'm fairly well-versed in Protestant lore, it never took. Heritage was always very important to me, I listened to metal, and I had beef with Christianity…so naturally when I read Vargsmal in highschool (early 2000's) it hit me like a bolt of lightning; I *inhaled* everything I could get my hands on: Rydberg, Edred Thorsson's catalog, Nietzsche, Hitler. Theodism in particular caught my fancy, and Gnosticism.
I joined a black metal band. My understanding of the runes and of Wotan had always been an intimate and esoteric one, and no other deities seemed to resonate with me really at all. As my studies and practice continued, some folks in my peer and e-peer group became a bit alarmed by the "Luciferian" nature of the approach I had to Wotan. It was brought to my attention that Edred Thorsson had actually been expelled from the Odinic Rite for for being too cozy with the LHP or some shit.
Stephen Flowers pops back up as I come across the Jeweled Tablets of Set, the separated-by-degree manuscripts of the Temple of Set. The ToS in my estimation is poopoo not much less stinky than LaVey's unadulterated pig shit, though a few things were certainly relevant to my interests, namely Flowers' and Aquino's Wewelsburg Working, and something similar the notion of what the ToS calls an Isolate Intelligence had already been gestating in my head.

Slovak Archaeologists found an interesting discovery when researching the area of the transport infrastructure for Jaguar Land Rover and accompanying industrial park in Nitra. They found a human skeleton from the Bronze Age that was probably a shaman. He was not buried in a standard grave but placed in hole serving a food storage.
“When the hole was not used anymore, people backfilled it with soil and this person was placed or thrown inside later. We don’t know whether he was thrown in or placed in, because the human was lying on his stomach,” said Klaudia Daňová, a scientific secretary from the Archaeological Institute in Nitra, as cited by the SITA newswire.
“Bronze decorations were placed near his ears. They were connected by little ear bones,” added Daňová for SITA. Archaeologists suggest that those are poultry bone but an analysis will be done to make sure.
“The decorations are unusual, we don’t have anything analogous to them yet,” stressed Daňová as quoted by SITA, adding that the placement of the body on his stomach is also unusual.
Scientists hypothesize that the body came from the older Bronze Age, however, a specific time frame will be given after radiocarbon analysis of the bones. Anthropological analysis will also determine gender, reveal diseases and maybe the cause of death.
“A necklace made of bones was the sign of a shaman,” said the head of the Archaeological Institute in Nitra Matej Ruttkay, as quoted by SITA. He added that shamans used to be very important persons in past times.
“They solved problems when the weather was dry, when someone was ill. The question is, if they were really solving problems or the society just believed it,” said Ruttkay, as cited by SITA.

Yuletime starts sunset on the 22nd this year, and is of course the longest night of the year for the NH, and it lasts twelve days.
My plans are hobby based, rather than being solidified into traditions of their own rights.
First, I will do astronomy on the night of the solstice. I always bake something sweet on my holidays, but I also intend to make some savory meals based on meats I've never eaten like Duck, Lamb, and Cabrito. I will be putting the most effort into the 24 hour period between the solstice sunset and the following sunset, so effectively two days of celebration there.
I would like to take up archery & archery hunting this year, a plan to go on a hunt on the final days of Yule, which will constitute a lot of effort as well. Many hours and quite possibly an unsuccessful hunt or else even more work in preparing my prey for a meal.
Filling up the intervening time with meaningful tradition is a challenge, though. We have a Yule Moon which happens to fall on the 25th this year, but I have mixed feelings about putting in a lot of effort on the christcuck high holiday. But on the other hand you can't just surrender part of Yuletime to them.
Any one else working on some dank traditions? I think a challenge for most pagans is that we don't live in communities of other pagans with whom to share our traditions so our religious activities take on a reclusive and private nature which should be fought against. Hi, I recently (past 6 months or so) converted to Asatru from christianity, but I honestly don't know much about it other than some of the basics. I've read about half of the Poetic Edda and I've studied Germanic history fairly in depth, but that's about it. Germany: Treasure trove of Harald Bluetooth unearthed
A 13-year-old boy and an amateur archaeologist have unearthed a "significant" treasure trove in Germany which may have belonged to the legendary Danish king Harald Bluetooth who brought Christianity to Denmark.

The oldest coin found in the trove is a Damascus dirham dating to 714 while the most recent is a penny dating to 983.
The find suggests that the treasure may have been buried in the late 980s – also the period when Bluetooth was known to have fled to Pomerania where he died in 987.

On The Harshness of Nature
Modern men from their sheltered existence often see Nature as cruel and unforgiving. This is often transferred over into pagan ideas, especially that of the mother Goddess and Woden, the Alfather. In my recent Piece “Woden of the Wild Wood” some of Woden’s “darker” elements are seen. So I have decided to write a short piece just to put this apparent “darkness” in its true context.
The Wild unknown places, from our modern vantage point, appear, as savage in their construction. We watch, from our comfort, the natural world outside and see the powerful prey upon the weak; some poor adolescent barely able to run chased down mercilessly by a mighty predator. Then comes the question, what righteous power could allow such apparent cruelty? Similarly when we look at how our ancestors lived, who dwelt in such places, it is hard to imagine how they coped in such conditions, with no one to call when you are in trouble, no supermarkets to fill your cupboard when the hunger pains kick in. Looking back it can appear very bleak, every day facing an almost impossible struggle for life. Yet they did not curse their reality, but held it in reverence.
To understand this, first we must strip ourselves of all distraction and get down to the roots of life.

The Northern European Runes form the basis of the earliest forms of writing in the northern lands, but for me they are much more than this. Before they were used to represent letters, they were powerful symbols in their own right. Each Runic symbol containing within it multiple layers and hidden meanings. Yet, so much of the academic delving and amateur investigations surrounding these enigmatic symbols focus much of their attention on them as simple letters. Before we delve deeper into Rune “theory” we must first understand what is lost when a Rune is reduced to a simple letter.
So what is a letter? Letters simply represent sounds, that form the basis of words, which in turn are used to construct sentences. Each collection of letters (words) has a given definition, which itself can vary related to the context it is used. Via this method we can construct thousands of words, in which to write about and define our existence. This precise method of communication leaves little to the imagination, making it ideal for clear and well defined communication. It is itself a form of reductionism, letters being the smallest part from which you can create multiple bigger things, such as words, sentences, etc. It is no wonder that when this form of communication firmly took hold, that reductionist science and philosophy was born. Reductionism is the idea that all things are the sum of all their parts and by the study of each part, you can determine the “thing”. Reductionist ideas form the basis of modern science and to a large extent modern thinking and without the humble letter none of this would of been possible.
All this at first glance may seem great and reductionist ideas are without doubt a magnificent analytical tool, however the concept of reducing everything to its various parts does have its own unique drawbacks. This way of thinking for me is rather mechanical, each part is seen as simply a cog in the machine. By observing the cog outside of the machine we gain knowledge of the cog, as it is in isolation, which will help us better understand the machine. One Book
Here's to hoping this sparks some discussion. I apologize in advance if this was already discussed.
Christians, Jews, and Muslims all have one book. Well, they have plenty of books on the subject of their religion, but they are supplementary to their one and essential book. Books that dictate the values of their faiths and how to venerate their gods.The Christians have the bible, the Muslims have the Quran, and the Jews have the Torah. If your house caught aflame and your electronic devices were all dead, what book would you save at the cost of the rest?
This may seem a bit melodramatic, but I think it's worth discussing. We only have so much time in the day between work, hobbies, and other demands. To study any great work one needs time. Archaeologists digging at the bottom of a former lake in Sweden have discovered an ancient burial site containing 8,000-year-old human skulls mounted on wooden stakes.
The gruesome find at the Kanaljorden site in the town of Motala in the central Sweden has left researchers baffled as, according to a study published in the journal Antiquity, it the challenges modern “understanding of the handling of the dead during the European Mesolithicera.”
The skulls showed signs of blunt force trauma that was “probably the result of interpersonal violence,” the study read. However, some injuries show signs of healing, meaning that blunt force trauma is not necessarily what killed them.
Some 11 adults, only one of which had a jawbone, were found at the ancient burial site. While it was difficult for researchers to determine their sex, at least three were female and six or seven were males. Interestingly, the injuries differed according to sex. Men tended to have truma on the top or front of their head, while women were injured at the back of their heads. Also unearthed was the entire skeleton of an infant who was likely stillborn or died shortly after birth, the researchers said.
Remains of wooden stakes were recovered from two of the skulls, “indicating that they had been mounted.” One of the stakes had broken. The other was at about 1.5ft (47cm) in length. Astonishingly, a piece of brain tissue was also recovered from the skull impaled with the broken stake. This suggests that the skull was cast into the lake soon after death where it was preserved.

The simple fact is this: Europe adopted this foreign religion and consequently admitted, on some level, that another people was more enlightened, intelligent, spiritually attuned, and more deserving of respect than our ancestors. These “others” were, we accepted, a uniquely great people who found the “truth” — and Europeans were very lucky indeed to be given a chance to learn that truth from our superiors.
Aside from mass murder and the sword, one major reason European people converted to the foreign religion was because their kings converted. Most often, the kings converted –- and betrayed their people –- for the most un-spiritual of reasons: to increase their families’ power. The “divine right of kings” was a purely Christian invention. Prior to Christianity, rulers were sometimes said to be descended from the gods — but no family line had an inherent right to rule."

Let me just start by saying that I am fairly new here and don't know much about your beliefs. That is not why I am here though. I don't doubt that many of you can make good arguments as to why we Europeans should return to our native religions.
We want to preserve our race - It makes sense to worship the gods of our blood.
The logic is sound and reasonable. But what I want to know is how and why so many people are returning to worshipping the old pantheons in the first place. Obviously, there must be something with what we have currently that makes people reject it. That is christianity. That is what I want to know. How have christianity weakened Europeans? What damage have it done to us as a race, both physically and spiritually? What parts of its teachings and theology goes against our interests?
In short. I want to learn why and what Christianity have done to us. I would make this thread on /pol/, but every time anyone question some of christianity's teachings, the /christians/ sperg and shit up the thread so much that you cannot have a discussion there. It does not help that the mods are on their side either. /pol/ is a Weeb-Christian circlejerk at this point.

What does /asatru/ think of the various forms of Celtic based paganism out there? Asking as a Celtic Reconstructionist myself, primarily following the Irish pantheon.
It's interesting to me that the Celtic and Norse peoples had such a mixed relationship, both trading openly and occasionally making war with each other until the christian era.

I've recently been fascinated with the constellations lately, the stars just look brighter for some reason and seem far easier to view as one object instead of unrelated dots lately.

So /asatru/, I have an idea that might be quite beneficial to us.
I would assume that 90% of this board does not think highly of Christianity, and would much rather Christians return to more traditional Aryan religion, whether that specifically be Asatru, the Roman or Greek Pantheons, Hinduism, etc.
We can obviously cite examples such as the crusades against other Europeans, the sack of Constantinople, and the complete Jewery that is present throughout the church's history. However, I think an extremely strong argument against Christians can be made using their own holy book - the Bible.
I used to do a bit of reading in the Bible, and from reading on this page, and on /cucktianity/, I have found several Bible verses which really fuck Christianity in the ass.
So let's use this thread to compile a list of Bible verses that can be used to weaken the hold Christianity has on our Volk. Post anything that could be of value, whether it be scriptures that exalt the Jew or confirm Yeshua's strong Jewish ties, sections of passages that suggest or command degenerate or otherwise harmful behavior (degradation of family values, for instance).
The Christian can argue with psuedo-history and lies all they want, but when their own holy book shows the true nature of their faith, they will struggle to defend it.

I have difficulty responding to some Christian arguments against Heathenry.
Mainly:
Christianity as a uniter of Europe against the Muslim threat during The Crusades.
and
Christianity as a spreader of some of the more positive aspects of Greco-Roman Mediterranean culture (I.e. philosophy, art etc.) Specifically, they love to throw up the argument that Christianity became based on Greco-Roman culture, which was one of the major cradles of the European worldview and civilization, while the Germanic peoples were still in the woods so to speak.
They usually springboard from the above into a screed on how Christianity made Europe great, blah blah, blah, muh Cathedrals and such.
So far, they only effective counter-argument that I have been able to come up with is the fact that though Christianity may have done some good in the short term, it ultimately has screwed us in the long term, due to Christianity, void of European roots, ultimately morphing into the Universalist worldview that is now killing the West.
Perhaps, also that Heathen culture would have eventually made contact with Mediterranean culture and engaged in a syncretic relationship void of Christianity.
Not to mention their pro-Christianity arguments amount to crypto cheer-leading for Mediterranean Pagan culture.

So I've been trying to figure out how to match up the Sun Calendar of the Germanic peoples with our current (((Gregorian))) calendar. It was a 13 month calendar, with 28 days each, that adds up to 364.
Then there is a new years day, separate from the months, that is matching up with Halloween for us. So basically I need help matching up the dates of the months to the (((gregorian))) dates.

I was clean for about a month and a half (that’s huge for me) after taking a vow to someone who is dead whom I greatly admire. However, after a recent emotional trauma, I relapsed. In doing so, I have dishonoured myself, but more importantly the man to whom I vowed never to use again. Can I make things right again? Obviously I never intend to use again but is there any way I can atone for what I’ve done? I care much more about the disrespect I have shown than my own guilt. I’ll already have to live with this for the rest of my life. Thanks in advance for any help.

Ancient Viking coffin ship unearthed in Norway (PHOTOS)

The boat also contained two long bones which were also laid out in a north-south direction.
“Careful excavation revealed that no wood remained intact, but lumps of rust and some poorly-preserved nails indicated that it was a boat that was buried here,” archaeologist Ian Reed of NIKU said in a statement.
Reed said the evidence suggests that a person was buried within the boat, but the researchers will have to carry out DNA testing to confirm the hypothesis.
NIKU’s Knut Paasche, a specialist in early boats, added that the vessel was dug down into the ground and had been used as a coffin for the dead.
“There has also probably been a burial mound over the boat and grave,” Paasche said.

Pagan Apologetics?
As someone with a Christian schooling background, I know that Christians use Apologies, defenses of their beliefs, to state why they believe what they believe. I can't, however, find almost anything about something like this for paganism (explanations for why you believe, logical defenses of polytheism, etc)
I did some looking around for something akin to pagan apologetics but all I got were Wiccans calling people intolerant or rayciss and calling it a day. Some gems I've found include things like

I'm not sure if your aware or care about this series of comics and a movie by Peter Madsen but i'd like to bring them to your attention if not and you do.
They came out in Denmark about 10 years before i was born and i remember both comics and movie very fondly. I think for a lot of Danish and Scandinavian people these are the faces of our old Gods. At least for people from before 1990 i guess, younger kebab-worshiping generation probably not. But its still one of the most colorful and moving representations and serving it to kids is going to leave an impression. Which made me quiet sad when i re watched it recently and realized the heartbreaking socialist brainwashing going on.
But still though, i'd like to offer them to you, and i'd like to defend my old friends by trying to get you to view it as sometimes a misguided message but always contained in something beautiful. The writer is perhaps not so much trying to sell you the overall message as he is using the opportunity to show you everything in between. At least you should probably be in that frame of mind of your going to view it. Its a mixed bag though and there are certainly good in there as well.
And re viewing it, i got 01-11 of the comics but its in Danish. I can dump it or upload somewhere i guess but let me know. Should be possible to find it somewhere in English. My question: I am fairly new to Asatru, and have posted a thread asking for help a few months ago, I have still not decided whether or not to be an Asatrur, but regardless I have done two extreamly shitty and rather embarrassing due to the lack of quality blots. The first was summer solstice and the second was tonight. Not going to in depth, rhe first time I madean offering to Thor, and my Uropa who was in the S.S. and today due to the large thunderstorms (pics related, taken on phone so shit quality) just to Thor. Both times when I drank an amount of beer I was offering I was hit with a weird feeling: I don't know how to explain it but it felt like every nerve from my tongue fired after the I dedicated the beer and touched my tongue moving outwards to my arms, chest, legs and feet. I don't quite know how to explain it but it felt weird and very slightly uncomfortable. The only other time I have ever felt this was when I tried weed when I was 14 never did it again btw. It is far from my first time drinking, and I have had both types of beer beforehand, so I don't know how to explain it. Was it a sign that I was being observed, or that my blog was rejected?

When i was younger my mother used to take me to some (i think asatru, definitely some kind of norse) bonfires as part of her faith. Now i never really believed in that stuff and she never tried to force it on me, but i feel like i missed out in life on the opportunity to rebel against the religion of my parents.

I was walking on a trail pretty far back in the big south fork national park, and I was approached by an old man in a grey jacket with the hood up. While he was still about 45 feet away I saw him bend down and pick something up. As we got closer he said to me "I love this park, the trees are very nice." This is the point I noticed he only had one eye, he looked up at the trees and I saw that his right eye was glass, and didn't move. I told him that I liked the park as well, and that the trees were very nice. He started to take a step and stopped, he gave me a stone (what I'm assuming he picked up) and told me to keep it. This is the stone in the picture. Was I visited by Odin?

How do you all feel about translating Asatru names and terms to Modern English words?
I've heard a lot of arguments of "sacred" language and people saying "READ ELIADE'S THE SACRED AND PROFANE" but I personally don't buy it.
The ancient pre-Christian people were telling the myths in the language of the people, not in a "high church" style language. They all knew what the names of the gods/goddesses actually meant with multiple shades of meaning, etc.
I know that the Norreana Society tried to do this in their "Asatru Edda" but from the reviews I read, they only translated some words into modern English and left other words untranslated, which is pretty odd.

Been seeing this terms pop up more often in my readings and I cant seem to find any consensus between authors on what they mean.
Same equate Magan and Hamingja as the same thing (ancestral luck) others say Magan is the Germanic term for mana.
Orlag as I understand it is layers of fate or personal deeds one contributes to the wells around Yggdrasil.
Wyrd is the most contentious of the 4 as I understand it it is potential fate like the threads themselves in the quilt of fate.
These authors keep alluding to them being related to fate but on the hand they say Germanic peoples did not believe in fate or had no concept of a "Future".

Discovery of huge Viking camp reveals secrets of Norse armies in medieval England
Archaeologists have uncovered an enormous Viking encampment in eastern England, a discovery that reveals much about the Norse armies that invaded Britain in the 9th century.

Using metal detectors, the researchers found evidence of Vikings repairing their boats and melting down looted gold and silver to make metal bars to trade. More than 300 lead game pieces were also found, suggesting the Vikings passed a lot of their time playing games, waiting for spring and the start of their next offensive.
The discovery forms the basis of a new virtual reality exhibition at Yorkshire Museum illustrating what life was like in the camp in the winter of 872-873 AD.

Did the Norse know about Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto?
Those planets are considered "modern" discoveries, but it seems to me that the Norse probably knew of their existence, because the World Tree has nine worlds and our solar system has nine planets.
Just to take it a step further, I will attempt to match the nine worlds to the nine planets:
Mercury = Asgard. Mercury is the fastest of the planets, and traditionally associated with Odin.
Venus = Alfheim. Venus is the brightest planet from our perspective, and strongly associated with beauty, making it an ideal candidate for the realm of the Light Elves.
Earth = Midgard, duh
Mars = Muspell, because of its fiery color.
Jupiter = Jotunheim, because it's the largest of the planets.
Saturn = Vanaheim, because idk where else Vanaheim might fit
Uranus = Niflheim, because of its icy blue color.
Neptune = Svartalfheim, perhaps because its deep blue hue speaks of ancient wisdom and fabulous treasure.
Pluto = Helheim, because it's frigid and dark and the most "netherworldly" of the planets.
It's interesting how you can match the worlds almost 1:1 to the planets based on their physical appearance, and they end up in pretty much the same order (with Asgard being the highest and Helheim being the lowest, etc.). The only one that doesn't really seem to fit is Vanaheim.
The Norse cosmology says Midgard is surrounded by a wall separating it from the giants of Jotunheim; the solar system has an asteroid belt that separates Earth from the planets known as "giants." There's a lot of parallels here, but I hope I'm not just overthinking it?

So /ASATRU/ recently I have gotten into The Rune Poems and Eddas as well as Beowulf. It's important to realize that even though Beowulf was recorded by Anglo Saxons, the saga took place in Scandinavia. If you put what's in Beowulf together with what is in the Eddas it becomes clear what the giants(Jotun) mentioned in the eddas are.
The giants/jotun were another race of white europeans that were mostly exterminated by the aesir, The jotun sometimes interbred with the other whites but the Jotun were closer to savage. They were the less civilized version. The giants were also berserkers. The viking berserkers were either part jotun or they were imitating the culture of the giants/jotun.
Its very important for every nordic person to read or listen to beowulf and study the eddas. A neglected aspect of northern european culture is the Irish mythology. The most important one to read is the cattle raid of cooley, sometimes called the tain. The main character Cu Chulainn is a Irish berserker warrior. The gods of the Irish: the dagda(an ancient king), lugh, the fianna… in some ways resemble the giants and I wonder if there was an exodus of those among the jotun races to Ireland where they became remembered as gods among the Irish.
In the one of the rune poems the jotnar are described as cliff dwellers, this can mean they were seen as "cave men". Another possibility is that the jotnar were the neanderthals who were exterminated.

Esoteric aspects of the Heathen Mythologies
Wanted to see if we could get a thread started that discusses the more Esoteric aspects of the Exoteric Myths.
There have been hints of such concepts in threads here and there, but not really a concentrated thread.
The closest that I've seen of a thread manifesting this concept is Varg Vikernes' videos, but for whatever reason he doesn't give his sources in said videos.
One esoteric theory I've kicked around (and I imagine others have as well) is that Odin's quest for the Runes is at least partially a metaphor for the power of writing and literacy, in addition to magic.
Trees are sacred in Germanic paganism. My question is, what makes a tree sacred? Is it an individual feeling one gets when they are around the tree or pray to it? Or is there a general consensus, or a set of guidelines, when determining whether a tree could be sacred. If it is an individualist concept, then how would one go about finding a sacred tree?

A bit of background: I come from a ceremonial magick background and I've found the daily ritual hard to give up as I've evolved in my approach to Asatru.
A common element of ceremonial magick (specifically Thelema) is the 4 daily adorations of the sun found in Liber Resh. I really found these adorations to be powerful tools for connecting to certain energies. Below is my attempt to create a Norse version of these mini rituals.

What is Operation Golden Age?
Hello, people of /asatru/. I'm the board owner of /x/ and this is a formal invitation to join Operation Golden Age.
The problem
You're probably aware that 8chan's community is small and highly fragmented. This is a terrible combination. Small forums work best when they have a small number of sections. Big sites can afford to have many subforums. While we enjoy the freedom to create and customise our own boards, the current model of infinite boards plus a stagnant community has resulted in a situation where the vast majority of boards are not as active as they could be. This is a pity, because imageboards are a great and versatile medium, and out of all imageboards, 8chan has the most potential.
Unfortunately our growth model so far has relied on various waves of exodus from other communities, mainly from 4chan. By its very nature, this model doesn't guarantee constant growth, and actually makes growth almost undesirable, because when it happens it's so big and sudden that the influx of new users can be difficult to manage. What we want is slow and steady growth.
The solution
We need to start spreading the word about 8chan. The keyword here is "we". The administrators won't do it because they don't make any money from this site, so it's not in their best interest to advertise it. The big boards won't do it either because they already enjoy a good number of PPH (posts per hour) and they're scared that any new visitor might ruin their 'culture'. From their point of view, there's nothing wrong with the current state of things. Most boards on the other hand would greatly benefit from a bigger community, but we have to make it happen. We have to realise that if we don't do something about it, nothing will change.
Now, due to the fact that most small boards represent niche interests, broad advertisements won't be particularly effective. Instead of advertising for 8chan as a site, we want to target people who are already interested in our niche. We can do this for free by mentioning our boards in places where our target audience gather. It can be Youtube videos, forums, blogs, etc. The more exposure, the better. We can create original content that contains a link to our board and share it on as many sites as we want.
Do we really want to recruit from outside of imageboards?
Yes! Remember that we were all newfags at some point. I discovered /v/ and /b/ through a Pokemon forum around 2008. Where did you come from? Everyone has his own story, but the point is that there's no reason to be afraid of newfags. We just need to make sure that they understand how things work around here. I'm currently working on a 8chan guide for newfags. Once it's done, board owners can add it to their boards as a page. I'll post my finished version and you'll be free to modify it however you see fit.

Dreams and Visions
So I have had personally a few visions and dreams. My friend actually had a dream of me with a white beard saying "I have become Odin". Another time after receiving bad news about a person close to me health I saw a man in the clouds with long hair and long beard (which I took to be Odin). I have dreamt and seen other things. Sometimes my dreams have foretelled the future as well. Does anyone else believe in Precognition or believe in visions?

I went into the mountains on the 29th (The first night of Winter Nights). Was a cool camping trip went fishing for awhile and got to bbq some hamburgers and hot dogs. Bought some Pecan Beer and pour one into my horn around 9ish. Performed a blot to Thor (From my understanding he is a patron god to farmers so would figure he is important for Harvest). I said some words to Thor took a sip from the horn then pour the rest onto the roots of the biggest Aspen Fir near my campsite. Got the sense of Euphoria (which I get every time I perform a blot). During that night I heard a wolf's howl echoing through the mountains it went on for a few hours. The temperature was supposed to only get to 38 degrees but dropped to like 15 over night. Next morning saw a few Ravens and all throughout my day I saw Ravens even when I got into town I kept seeing Ravens (all through my journey home). Did not what to make of this.

I know that I said in the last broadcast that we would begin talking in this week's episode on the Rune Sowilo, but with the time of year being what it is and the content of the previous week's broadcast being so pivotal in connection with the higher self I thought that we should put right something that was an oversight for those of you who subscribe to our RSS and iTunes feed. Winter Nights is coming, the time where we honor Freyja and the Disir (our female ancestors). What better time than to release as it should have been our episode on Seidhr! This esoteric art was practiced by our ancestors and sometimes included runes and sometimes did not. The particular form of Seidhr called "Oracular Seidhr" was particularly practiced by women but the entire art form that this style of magic represents was by no means restricted just to this. Listen to this broadcast and realize that this is one of our older vintage broadcast from almost 4 years ago! It has a hard-hitting message and is something that is of great value in any person's spiritual development if they are following the esoteric path.

2. This may seem like a weird question but have Jews played any roles in wolf extirpation? For example, Britain and especially Ireland had many wolves but their extermination on those islands went full speed after Cromwell took power, and we all know what Cromwell was about.

Freyja, Frigg, the Aesir, and the Vanir
Are Freyja and Frigg the same? It would make a lot of sense, they have very similar characteristics and their husbands are essentially the same deity. Odr and Odinn are almost certainly the same. Their names are in fact the same word, the only difference is Odinn is definite accusative while Odr is indefinite nominative.
If they are the same, what would that mean for the Vanir? I've heard theories that the Vanir weren't actually considered a separate group until right before the conversion to Christianity.

Totems, Totemism, Totem animals
It should be a well known fact by now that our ancestors practiced totemism, our holiest animals in the Germanic regions being the bear, the wolf, and the eagle.
Do you guys ever feel like you might have a totem animal? I mean not in an otherkin or fursona sense, in fact, I consider all that furry culture shit to be a bastardization of totemic traditions, likely spearheaded by the merchants. The inevitable resurgence of European Paganism
Is anyone else looking at this invasion of Europe that's happening right now and coming to the conclusion that the widespread resurgence of some form of European Paganism is all but inevitable at this point?
The flood of Muslims is seemingly endless, their murdering and raping is beginning to spread outside of the shelters as they seem to be tired of raping their own women and now attacks on Europeans are becoming increasingly common, white Europeans are finally starting to wake up in large numbers and every day more and more people are becoming enraged over this insanity, and we have gone well past the point that this could be ended peacefully and massive amounts of violence is now unavoidable.
As for how this relates to religion and spirituality though, it just seems to me that some form of European Paganism is the only likely result of all of this. Humans need spirituality and without it we descend into the same abyss of nihilism and apathetic hedonism that large parts of Europe have already been in for several decades now, so Europe will need some kind of spirituality that the people can rally around as the violence begins and chaos erupts throughout Europe. I don't see any trend towards a Christian revival that would make me think that Christianity will be the choice of Europeans outside of maybe Southern and Eastern Europe. Christianity is just rotting right now, and even Christians will admit this if they're honest. Christianity is on life support in the rest of Europe and when it is practiced then it's practiced in such a watered down and meaningless way, so it seems impossible to me that most of Europe will rally around Christianity as a spiritual source of strength in the coming conflict.
If we look at the present trend amongst Western European nationalists though then it can be argued that a kind of primal and subconscious form of European Paganism is already being practiced. If you look at the symbols that they're using, the artwork that they admire, and the heroes and figures that inspire them then almost all of it is pagan. You might see a crusader painting here and there, but that's definitely in the minority compared to the amount of people who are connecting to their identity as a white European through symbols and images that are directly connected to European Paganism.
It makes perfect sense that this would be what caused the resurgence because if people are willing to fight and die to stop this invasion of Muslims then what is it that they're willing to die for? They will be fighting and dying for Europe and that in and of itself is a form of spirituality. The conflict that we're facing calls for an ethnically based spirituality because the whole point of this fight is to fight for the survival of Europe and white Europeans. Christianity is useless for this purpose and the amount of mental gymnastics that you would need to do to twist Christianity into an ethnic religion of any kind is just ridiculous.
When you consider the need that is within humans for some kind of spirituality, the present withering away of Christianity, and the unique circumstances of the invasion that practically demands for an ethnic spirituality, then a resurgence of European Paganism in some form seems to be inevitable to me.
THE DAGDA
The father god and ruler of the Tuatha Dé Danann. Perhaps the most important of all the Celtic deities, Dagda (sometimes referred to as ‘The Dagda’) was worshiped by the Celts as the god of magic, wisdom, and fertility.
Dagda’s many fine possessions indicate the array of his talents. His magical club could kill with a strike from one side and restore life with a blow from the other. The weapon was so big that it could injure more than one man at a time, and Dagda had to drag it behind him on two wheels.
His cauldron could provide an endless supply of food for the gods. His fruit trees were always ready to harvest. Of his two swine, one was always roasting upon a spit while the other was always alive.
His harp could summon the seasons.
In various stories, Dagda is named as the son, the father, and sometimes the husband of the mother goddess Danu. His wife is usually given as Bóand. He also mates with Mórrígan at the start of the new year. His many children include Angus Óg, Bodb Derg, Brigit, and Midir.
Dagda killed many Fomorians in the second battle of Mag Tuired. But this battle ended his career, for he was killed there by Caitlín, wife of the Fomorian leader Balor.
In the middle of the second battle of Mag Tuired, the Fomorians and the Tuatha Dé Danann called a truce. The fighting halted for a short time, but neither side let its guard down. The Fomorians kept themselves busy looking for ways to gain the advantage over their adversaries. They thought that if they could distract the great father god, they might be able to win the battle. They also knew that Dagda had a weakness for porridge, his favorite food, so they decided to concoct a porridge of superhuman proportions.
The Fomorians began by digging a massive crater in the earth. They poured in enough milk to satisfy an entire village for one year. Then they added enough fat to supply an entire kingdom for two years. Next they added enough meal to feed every man, woman, and child in an entire province for three years. Then, for good measure, they threw in a flock of sheep, a herd of goats, and a passel of pigs.
The Fomorians challenged and taunted Dagda to eat the porridge or die. Dagda leaned over the great crater in the ground and sniffed at the mixture of ingredients. He put one giant finger into the mess and tasted it. To the amazement of the Fomorians, Dagda ate the entire huge crater of porridge. Feeling tired after such a big meal, Dagda lay down under a tree for a nap.
The Fomorians, annoyed that their plot had failed, devised a backup plan. They called for a woman to tempt the Dagda. If he mated with her, he would die. The Fomorians hid behind trees to see what would happen. Dagda woke briefly to see a young maiden lying beside him. Although he noticed that she was very pretty, he was still sleepy and satisfied from his meal, so he rolled over and went back to sleep. The Fomorians were foiled again.

I've always been very interested in norse mythology, and especially the sides of it that deals with nature and our ancestors' spirituality concerning it.
Here in my country, we have this organization called Forn Sidr that I heard about many years ago and decided to investigate, and while they do indeed claim to practice asatru, they came across more like a hobby club than an actual religious circle. They talked very little about any kind of actual religious beliefs and a lot more about how we should all just get together and talk it out and come up with our own idea of what Asatru should be in modern times. While I think it's fine that they're open to new ideas, it put me off too, because it made it seem like it was more like a roleplaying club that held very little regard for the traditions and ideas of the old ways.
My first question here is, is there really enough information regarding the viking beliefs to revive this "dead" religion and provide genuine answers to spiritual questions in modern day, or will it always just be a corrupted and modernized imitation?
My second question is, I'm aware there's a lot of neo-nazi connections to "Wodenism", and that many Scandinavian and Germanic ultranationalists look to ancestor-worship more for its justifications for their political beliefs than any genuine religious conviction. Is that something that takes up a lot of space in the various Asatru circles? Do you find it's generally accepted, or do the "true believers" shun those who use the faith as a political tool?
Thirdly, both Islam and Christianity has tons of secondary literature on their primary sources, i.e the Koran and the Bible. Could you recommend me literature on this religion, apart from the Eddas? Has anyone written about the Eddas and what they mean in a religious sense?
Hey asatru, I have a problem. I follow asatru to the best of my ability (not many places around here where I can buy Nordic things), but I have thoughts of being a female. I know most heathens stance on being a tranny, and I agree. It's a mental illness. Is there anything I can do to quell these thoughts so I can get some peace of mind? Unlike what some people believe Mithraic mysteries are uniquely European and the Mithraic Mithras has little if anything to do with the Persian Mithras, almost all of the Mithraic mystery temples are located in Western Europe and are centered around Rome.
I really like Mithra as a way to bridge the gap between various pagan European groups out there.
Mithras was at one point incorporated into all of the religions of the European parts of the Roman empire but almost none of the religions from outside of Europe.
Regretfully most of the believes and traditions have disappeared because of the secrecy of the cult, but thanks to it's rivalry with Christianity and it's links with pagans religions and especially the Sol Invictus cult we do know about some of the rituals, traditions and believes.
Could we build on these few things to create a new Mithras cult? A mystery cult that stands for all European peoples and against our invaders.

I find it extraordinarily strange that simultaneously on earth there are people living in luxury concerning themselves over absolute inanities such as where they should go on vacation next or who their neighbor is sleeping with, while there are others who are living in in such severe poverty that they suffer everyday in filth before starving to death or succumbing to disease or violence.
Some people are exposed to religion and philosophy which gives them tools to cope with suffering, others are kept in the dark and simply suffer in ignorance and confusion.
Does Asatru have an answer for this?
I understand that there is no principle of justice in nature, but the shear distance between the two states is almost too extreme to comprehend.
