Seidhr
October 7th, 2014
http://nrr.podbean.com/e/seidhr/

I know that I said in the last broadcast that we would begin talking in this week's episode on the Rune Sowilo, but with the time of year being what it is and the content of the previous week's broadcast being so pivotal in connection with the higher self I thought that we should put right something that was an oversight for those of you who subscribe to our RSS and iTunes feed. Winter Nights is coming, the time where we honor Freyja and the Disir (our female ancestors). What better time than to release as it should have been our episode on Seidhr! This esoteric art was practiced by our ancestors and sometimes included runes and sometimes did not. The particular form of Seidhr called "Oracular Seidhr" was particularly practiced by women but the entire art form that this style of magic represents was by no means restricted just to this. Listen to this broadcast and realize that this is one of our older vintage broadcast from almost 4 years ago! It has a hard-hitting message and is something that is of great value in any person's spiritual development if they are following the esoteric path.

For those that are following primarily the religious side of things this still holds great value it leaves Nuggets of wisdom that show the type of consciousness one has in reverie when giving blot to the gods and goddesses or to the ancestors and wights.

Hail to the gods and goddesses! Hail to our female ancestors! A fair and fine Winter Nights to all!

Until Next Time….

This episode is a bit esoteric for beginners to Asatru.

I recommend newbies first check out the Asatru Essentials here:

Understanding Odin
September 9th, 2014
http://nrr.podbean.com/e/understanding-odin/

Odin is the most enigmatic God in the entire pantheon of our ancient Northern European mythos. There is a great deal of lore that talks about Odin and his many acts both among the gods and among mankind, yet there are very few inscriptions directly of his name as people feared the dreaded God of war and death.

We hear today so many stories about Odin in his role as "All Father" but Odin also had a very negative and dark side as he was also the God of war (there were others that held that title as well), the God of poetry, the God of sorcery, the God of death! In some of the sagas that we read we see how Odin was not always "honorable" in his deeds, as he committed some of the highest moral crimes against the northern code of ethics. He was a kin slayer! He was an oath breaker! These just to name some. The God Loki accused Odin in one of the sagas of granting victory in war at various times to the side that was unworthy, so that the great heroes of the side that was worthy would be slain and join his army in Valhalla. There are times in the stories where he would turn on his chosen heroes and fight against and even himself. This of course, is all on the negative side of things. There are many positive things as well that can only be seen when looking at the big picture that is going on not only in this world but in all the 9 worlds. On the surface things look very uncertain when the question is asked "Is it wise to trust Odin?” This also brings into question esoteric Runology because of course, he is the God credited with winning the Runes. This is why at this point we believe that it is vitally important to have a fuller understanding (hopefully) of Odin, who he is and why he does what he does. This is a longer episode than usual, but it is one that you will definitely want to share and to download so that you can listen to it again and again. Also, we hope it inspires you to read the lore for yourself because one of the goals that we have in all of this is to help all of you to be able to open any book of lore in the Northern Tradition and be able to comprehend the subtle layers that are within the prose and stanzas. One of the most important skills any Asatruar can have is the skill of thinking for oneself and coming to one's own conclusions. We hope that this series on the runes and on other subjects help everyone to do that in an ever increasing way.

Until Next Time….

Daniel Updike - Asatru in the 21st Century
http://grizzom.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/red-ice-radio-august-27-2014.html
Daniel Updike (aka Wodenson) is an Asatruar and Gothi of Har’s Hall Kindred from Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Wodenson came to this way of life close to 28 years ago, has been a seminar speaker, and was the originator of “The Asatru & Ancient Runes” series which launched Har’s Hall Kindred in Edmonton. He hosts NRR-Northern Runes Radio, a podcast exploring the Northern European Mythos both religiously, and esoterically. Throughout the program, we’ll discuss what it means to live the Asatru way in the 21st century, awakening our ancient awareness. Daniel first clarifies misunderstandings associated with Asatru such as it being a religion. We’ll hear about the European folk code of honor, ethics, the 9 noble virtues and the 3 norns. Daniel speaks about our ancestral folk traditions and their view of the “dead.” Later, we talk about embracing the struggle so our folk can become more. Struggle is an essential part of being alive and progressing. In the second hour, we’ll discuss European folk who have forgotten who they are, who have lost connection to the folk soul. Additionally, western fallacies have indoctrinated us to lower the bar. Now we must reverse the decay. Daniel also talks about the ways in which Christianity is in opposition to Asatru, such as teaching unworthiness. We’ll discuss the path to becoming more and the battle for the mind and soul of our people. Later, Daniel provides more examples of the Asatru way and how to implement it into our modern lives. He also tells us about the positive Viking view of women and how Vikings were not mindless barbarians as we are told to believe. Daniel leaves us with a closing message.

The Solar Storm: Wodenson (8-17-14)
http://www.renegadebroadcasting.com/solar-storm-wodenson-8-17-14/
Kyle talks to Wodenson of Northern Runes Radio, a podcast that takes an in-depth look into the meaning and use of runes. Topics include: what the runes are, when and where they were used, how Woden won the runes, persecution of practitioners, runic revival, and what role runes can play in our lives today.

Sowilo, Sigel, Sol, Sig
October 14th, 2014
http://nrr.podbean.com/e/sowilo-sigel-sol-sig/

We are back again in the runic series on this broadcast release. We are covering the last Rune of the 2nd Aett called in the Elder Futhark Sowilo; The Anglo-Saxon Futhorc Sigel; The Younger Futhark Sol; The Armanen Futhorc Sig.

This Rune is an extremely powerful and fortunate Rune! This is the culmination of this row, and as Wunjo was the culmination of the 1st row, it represents the reward and the fullness of the initiatory process that the row represents! When we look at the Rune poems we see that this Rune represents a ray of the sun (we must remember that in the northern mythologies the sun is feminine and the moon is masculine) and safety, victory, along with the breaking free of inertia. The Old Icelandic Rune poem describes this Rune as the "lifelong enemy of ice". Realizing that each Rune builds in the initiatory process of our awakening one upon the other, that the reward of the connection established through our successful understanding and assimilation of the Rune Elhaz which we talked about in our previous runic broadcast, is the breaking of the bonds which hold us back in our evolution! The balance of the soul complex, and the union with the fetch, brings about the ray of the sun which is a victory of epic proportions in our path of expansion and growth. Yes, this Rune can refer to physical victories in battle if you happen to be a military person, it can also refer to safety on sea voyages, but we need to understand that esoterically it means much more than that. Isa the Rune of ice which we covered earlier, has its positive points and allows us to contract into a better conductor of the runic energies. It also represents a force of inertia as a frozen river does not flow but is held in suspended animation. The Rune we are talking about today causes that ice to melt and movement, growth and expansion are the result. In the initiatory process represented by this entire row the full effectiveness that this Rune represents cannot in my opinion be experienced unless we do follow through with the work that is necessary with the preceding runes as the union with the fetch is the pivotal point upon which the doorways are opened in the depths of our soul complex to the energies of the divine in a very direct way.

One of the statements made in the Armanen row relates this Rune and to the 11th spell song of Odin where the galder of this Rune is sung into the shield of the warrior.

It says "safe he goes out to battle, safe he comes back from battle…” This can also refer to the perils that one faces in the battlefield of the mind where we are moving forward in the expansion of our awareness. There are many things that are undreamed of in the hearts of men and women that exist in the multi-verse whose chief joy is the destruction of the human spirit – – there are great rewards in esoteric practice and there are also great perils. These perils may not be physical but they can be just as damaging to the psychological complex of the individual. Union with the fetch gives you the authority to stand in the center of the circle of the multi-verse because now you are not just standing in your ego, you are standing in union with the very impulse which brought you into incarnation in the 1st place!

Until Next Time….

The Importance of Rites in Asatru
October 20th, 2014
http://nrr.podbean.com/e/the-importance-of-rites-in-asatru/

The broadcast that is being released this week, is on the subject of the importance religious rites have in our religion. Our Kindred just finished having its winter nights celebration of this past weekend, which was an extremely powerful time for everyone involved! This time, just before the winter really starts to hit us and the weather is already noticeably cooler, we take the time to honor the great goddess Freyja and the female ancestors , collectively called the Disir who choose to watch over their descendants. One of our members just recently had a grandmother pass away, so in many ways this is a particularly meaningful rite. This is a time where we honor the divine feminine in its nurturing ways and remember them for their love, compassion, and care for us their descendants. We remember them, and we honor them with our gifts of loyalty and love.

Building Frith with the gods and goddesses as well as the ancestors and the wights of the land adds such a depth to who we are and with our knowledge of where we're going. Asatru is not something that we do but who we are as individuals and as a people. The rites of our religion as we practice them, whether they are in a kindred environment or if they're done individually bring us closer to the very parts of our own soul complex that interface with multiverse itself! I would encourage you to do more than just listen to our episode on religious rites and the importance that they have, but to actually perform the rites! If you want to know the mechanics of how we do it I would encourage you to most definitely register for the " Asatru 101-The Mechanics Of Blot" that will be held on November 15 of this year. The registration for that is online for every one who is willing to register and attend (as it is an interactive online session) will be posted in a link on our face book page. Hail to each and every one of you! Until next time…

Tiwaz - This is a Rune of great power and is the first rune of the third aett, meaning that it is the first level of the third degree of initiation into the Runic powers! The last Rune that we dealt with in the second aett was Sowilo, Sol or Sig which was the culmination of the second degree of initiation bringing about the power to break free of the inertia holding us back in both personal and collective evolution. The Rune Tiwaz is the next step which not only breaks us free from inner blockages in a more powerful way, but allows us to achieve our goals based upon the right action of our will, which is already connected to the higher aspects of our consciousness from our initiatory experiences with all the previous Runes we have gone through up till this point.

Tiwaz, Tiw, Tyr
October 28th, 2014
http://nrr.podbean.com/e/tiwaz-tiw-tyr-1414473130/

The episode that is being released this week is on their Rune Tiwaz, Tiw, or Tyr depending on the system you are using.

This is a Rune of great power and is the first rune of the third aett, meaning that it is the first level of the third degree of initiation into the Runic powers!

The Rune Tiwaz or Tyr bears the name of course, of the god Tyr who was the bravest and most honorable of the gods. He is famous for losing his sword hand to the jaws of the Fenrir wolf knowing that he was going to lose his hand because it was held in the jaws of this wolf as a pledge when the gods bound him with a magical cord made by the dwarves. That honor, the keeping of sacred oath even to one's own hurt, the perseverance of carrying on even though things are hard are all part of the energy of the Rune. The very shape of this Rune is like that of a spear, or an arrow. If you have moved forward building upon the initiation of each for rune in succession up to this point, the power of this rune can shoot you forward through the veil into levels of consciousness that you never thought possible!

Heimdall and Hel
September 2nd, 2014
http://nrr.podbean.com/e/heimdall-and-hel/

One of the biggest lessons that we learned both from Heimdall and from Hel was "living in the present moment"! We cannot live in the past, whether it be one of glory or defeat. We cannot live in tomorrow because tomorrow never comes does it? All we have is the ever present now. This is a powerful lesson that shows us not only the honor and the perseverance represented by Heimdall, but the mortality that we all face represented by the ruler of the underworld. The days that we have living in this world are small in number in comparison with the lifespan even of our planet alone, forgetting about the universe itself. We cannot afford to live in the past! We cannot afford to only have our thoughts about tomorrow! The question is what we are experiencing, and what are we doing right now! As we live our lives conscious of the ever present "now" we find that tomorrow takes care of itself as we are active in the moment that we are in. We abandon despair and depression because of the fact that we understand that nothing we do can ever change the past. Even if it is not negative, but positive, we cannot live there for it is already gone. We can remember glorious deeds and should do so in order to bring the power and energy of those glorious victories into the present "now" – – in order that we can do something with it now. How much time do we waste in our lives thinking about things over which we have no control? How many times have we missed the opportunity to take charge of the things we can control? It is all about a change in thinking and in our thought processes. Looking into the mythologies and really reading them, especially when we think of the attributes of our gods and goddesses, how they show us a different way of thinking and acting. We can overcome the indoctrination of the Western world and once again become one with that energy that the universe represents and shows unto us at every sunrise and every sunset. The choice as always is ours and ours alone. What do we do with the time we have been given? Why do we want to be remembered by our descendants? Not just to be a stodgy story told by a fireside! We want to be an inspiration to our descendants to take what victories we gain in our lives so that they will move forward and have victories in their lives! Hopefully that they will even out do us.

Until Next Time….

Berkano, Beorc, Bjarkan, Bar
November 4th, 2014
http://nrr.podbean.com/e/berkano-beorc-bjarkan-bar/

The last Rune that we dealt with (Tiwaz) was a force that, among other things, propelled a person into a higher level of consciousness than they were previously aware was possible. It stands to reason that entering into a new level of consciousness and awareness leads to the power of the Rune that we're dealing with today.

Berkano is Rune that deals with protection from the perspective of pregnancy or gestation. This is a feminine Rune that reminds us of the sacred enclosure involved with the gestational process of living things. This type of protection is more of the hidden force than an extroverted force, and has a purpose which is the completion of the gestational process and bringing forth into birth a new type of consciousness. This all has to do with the increase of awareness where it comes to every aspect not only of multi verse but of the soul complex itself. There has been connection before in the initiatory process of the Runes, but this is far more involved as it is bringing forth a maturity of that connection. The next Rune that we will be dealing with is the result of passing through the power and initiation of this Rune Berkano! You go from having mere connection to your fetch to being united with it in much the same way as a man and wife, or a horse and rider!

Until next time…

The Northern Soul Complex
March 21st, 2014
http://nrr.podbean.com/e/the-northern-soul-complex/

This is a very important after so, that sets the foundation for the way our ancestors you themselves and the world around them. Unlike the movies were our people are portrayed as mindless barbarians, here we find of view of the human soul that is only matched in its complexity by the Egyptian symbolism we find in ancient history in the Middle East. We usually do not publish old episodes from the old Northern Runes Radio but this episode was so important that we decided to cross our own policies. If you do not understand at least in part the concepts of the human soul is our ancestors saw them, it is very hard to bring many of the treasures of our people to the 21st century! This is an episode you'll want to listen to more than once, and share this with as many people as possible. This does not in any way change the fact that we are putting a new broadcast out on Sunday, but this episode was so important that we decided to make an exception to the broadcast schedule and put it out here for you for 24/7 listen on demand.

Yule Part 2: The Wild Hunt
December 23rd, 2014
http://nrr.podbean.com/e/yule-part-2-the-wild-hunt/

The Wild Hunt is one of those negative aspects particularly prevalent at this time of year because of the thinness of the veil. There are other things as well but that is not the focus of this particular broadcast. The Wild Hunt is a story that is told throughout all of Europe, as well as in different terms throughout many cultures of the world. It has many different names, but the basic story line is the same. A band of furious ghost warriors led by various different gods or goddesses (usually Woden) hunting supernatural beings. When you take a look at the legend of the Wild Hunt you begin to see the importance of the connection to the ancestors, the Disir in particular, the time spent indoors in fellowship (aside from just the cold weather) as well as the celebrations that are held on the three most holy days of the 12 days in Yule.

Othala, Othel

The episode being released on the podcast server this week is on the Rune Othala or Othel. This Rune is the capstone of the 3rd Aett in the Elder Futhark, and is equally important in the Anglo-Saxon Futhorc. This Stave does not appear in the Younger or Armanen Rows.

This particular Rune is of extreme importance in more ways than can be described.

http://nrr.podbean.com/e/othala-othel/

It's mundane meaning is " ancestral property" or " homeland", but it means so much more than that. It also refers to the ancestral heritage of our entire people! I personally believe that this Stave is a sigil of the very folks soul itself! This represents the initiation into the knowledge of our place in that folks soul and the knowledge of who we really are both as individuals and as part of the collective consciousness of our people. As you listen to the broadcast you'll understand much more of what I'm talking about here. The previous Rune we talked about dealt with the light of day and the paradox of light and darkness being the same (only our perception due to our dualastic mindset do we see the difference which is in itself illusionary) may as well as how are exposure to the initiation of the light of day destroys the allusions of who we think we are and who we really are. The Rune we're talking about today takes things a step further to not only knowing who we are as individuals but who we are as a people collective and strong.

Northern Ethics

http://nrr.podbean.com/e/northern-ethics/

I had originally intended to start finishing off the Anglo Saxon Futhorc but as I got to thinking, I realize that I was being irresponsible. It is vitally important after an episode like the one we put out last week, where we talked about " Why We Teach The Esoteric" that we talk about the subject of ethics. I'm not talking about some superimposed a morality but the code that we choose to live by that is in harmony with our ancestral ways. This is important when dealing with the spiritual philosophy of life that is our religion, and even more important when dealing with the esoteric where the mind, our perceptions, and are very Wyrd can be directly altered not only personally but collectively.
