Hey, /asatru/, I come to you in a time of great need. I’m currently trying to pull myself out of a deep hole, and I have a serious problem. For a few years I have struggled with addiction. I was clean for about a month and a half (that’s huge for me) after taking a vow to someone who is dead whom I greatly admire. However, after a recent emotional trauma, I relapsed. In doing so, I have dishonoured myself, but more importantly the man to whom I vowed never to use again. Can I make things right again? Obviously I never intend to use again but is there any way I can atone for what I’ve done? I care much more about the disrespect I have shown than my own guilt. I’ll already have to live with this for the rest of my life. Thanks in advance for any help.

You should think of a way of atoning for this yourself.
Just out of curiosity - what have you been addicted to?

Perform honorable deeds preferably to your folk. There are few dishonorable things that are not redeemable. Perform blots too. But don't whip yourself and dwell on it too much. Use your guilt in a constructive way. Whipping yourself and beating up yourself over it is a cuckstian and not productive

There are some examples from the sagas if my recollection serves me correctly things like Kinslaying, Oathbreaking, etc. Anything that gets you branded as an outlaw. I mean I suppose you could even find ways of restoring your honor even from this but its not just honor you have to worry about but also your hamingja.

Sure like in the Saga of Erik the mongrel where Odin personally bitch slapped him for being impure. Or in the Havamal where Odin said that having a little a bit of Jap blood makes you an untermensch and Hitler will rise from the grave to lay waste to your soul.

This, when Ive broken my own addictions, acting extra honorable to make up for my disgraces always seems to make me feel better, or at least be more favorable with my ancestors. Its something you can really really feel when you do it, and you will know when you have atoned.
