Hell an entity that helps me network with other entities and teaches me to take evocation to a new level is probably what I need right now. Not all magical practices are necessarily argr; what's argr is playing a receiving role. The only thing men should avoid doing in seiðr is taking external spirits - especially those which may be potentially harmful - into themselves. I can't see any reason that reading runes, binding/banishing spirits, calling spirits for stuff (like come on, fucking votive rites to the gods, wights and ancestral spirits are arguably forms of magic) etc. should be considered argr.

I think you've got it here. Rituals, galdr, cursing people, etc. are all widely considered fine for men to do. As far as I know, it's only seiðr considered "women's magic" and again, I personally suspect that's due to an association with seiðr and taking spirits into oneself when there is stuff you could do within seiðr which doesn't involve anything of the sort.

Other possible reasons for seiðr having a feminine association:
The word seiðr itself is cognate with Old Norse siðr (tradition/custom), Swedish sed (as in the Asatru association Forn Sed, meaning Old Customs), Old English sidu (Fyrnsidu being the OE form), etc. Seiðr could have once simply meant custom or tradition, and with women being primary homemakers and child carers, they were also primary lore keepers. I think it's easy to see how women passing down snippets of how to keep the house lucky and how to keep unwanted spirits out and such could lead to women being primary agents of such activity and how that could lead to it being seen as only fit for women to do, when really it's just what was done mostly by women for convenience more than anything else.
If you like Varg Vikernes, he claims that seiðr originally involved wearing slightly gender-bending clothing in order to better imitate (and so influence) genderless spirits, which is where the archetypal clothing of wizards (dresses, if we're happy to call robes what they really are) stems from.
I'll leave people to make their own minds up as to whether they want to practice seiðr or any other form of magic or not, but don't take "IT'S FOR WOMEN ONLY" at face value as an absolutely true statement; consider the evidence critically, assess your own gut feeling on the matter as well, and decide for yourself.
