There isn't a connection between metal and Germanic paganism, but metal is a pretty cool and vigorous genre of music which seems to enjoy a strong scene in northwestern Europe, so it just so happens that a fairly high proportion of metal bands enjoy Asatru-related themes (either because they themselves are Asatruars/Odalists etc or because they simply enjoy the stories and themes).
I think Wardruna is about as /asatru/ as it gets but they've been mentioned. Faun have also been brought up - cool music and definitely /asatru/-approved but their stuff is, if I remember right, mostly Gallic and Roman themed (though if this board is not specifically for Germanic paganism but for all European folk ways, then there's nothing wrong with that!).

Neofolk in general is a hit-or-miss genre, unfortunately. Most of the time it's either really beautiful/decent stuff you come across or just amalgated arthouse-style hipster noise, aka complete trash with no connection to traditionalism.

I know how you feel bro, my ancestors came from Hamburg and East Prussia (the ones from East Prussia settled in Elsaß-Lothringen post-Franco Prussian war, but then abandoned the Fatherland in 1915…). It seems most stereotypical "German" culture (at least from the US) is that of Bavaria or the other southern German states, and there is little recognition of Northern Germany or Prussia. A shame, really.
I've filled this void in my soul by listening to Third Reich and older tunes, as many of these originated from Prussia proper or are strongly connected with Prussia.

Are you me? My dad's dad's family was all from Prussia (I believe Brandenburg, but it's possible from Pomerelia or west Prussia, and settled in Elaß-Lothringen then moved to the U.S. also. Though my dad's mom was half Scottish half English. My mom was born in Hamburg, and her dad's family always lived in Schleswig-Holstein/Hamburg and my Oma fled Berlin with her mom in '45 to escape the Soviets. Because I was born in Canada I have a German citizenship too. But yeah other than a few folk rock bands I like (santiano, Sturmrebellen, and Odroerir) I haven't been able to find much for volkish music. I listen to plenty of Preußen, 2nd and 3rd reach marches but I just want to find something like all the Nordic folk music that is made with old instruments.
