/asatru/, what are your opinions on the Mithraic mysteries?

Unlike what some people believe Mithraic mysteries are uniquely European and the Mithraic Mithras has little if anything to do with the Persian Mithras, almost all of the Mithraic mystery temples are located in Western Europe and are centered around Rome.

I really like Mithra as a way to bridge the gap between various pagan European groups out there.

Mithras was at one point incorporated into all of the religions of the European parts of the Roman empire but almost none of the religions from outside of Europe.

Regretfully most of the believes and traditions have disappeared because of the secrecy of the cult, but thanks to it's rivalry with Christianity and it's links with pagans religions and especially the Sol Invictus cult we do know about some of the rituals, traditions and believes.

Could we build on these few things to create a new Mithras cult? A mystery cult that stands for all European peoples and against our invaders.

There's something fishy about the Mithras cult. They're know as one of the last great pagan cults, but quite likely they operated as a sort of fifth column with Christian sympathies.

We know jackshit about them besides the imagery of their temples and initiators ranks as they very much valued staying mysterious.

Trying to reconstruct them would be like some isolated tibetan goatherder who never saw a bible in his life being tasked with guessing the theology of christianity right by showing him an empty church.

Also it was a men only club liked by soldiers primarily, does not seem like a religion for the people.
