So I've been going over the Rigveda for a while now, and I'm curious about the caste system.
Was this subject to change at all? Or was it set from birth? As in, could someone from the warrior or worker castes ascend to nobility through hard work? Seems rather obvious that a worker or farmer could easily pick up arms and join the military though.

In Hinduism you used to be able to. The Castes weren't so much "Sub-species of humans" as they were "Your dad was a farmer so you're a farmer too until you learn to do something else".
So probably.

Changing through the castes was rare but it did happen and more often it was going down in castes rather than up. Although i guess the difference between a farmer and a foot soldier isn't that much and there isn't any racial difference like there would be between the Nobles with some white blood and the more native farmers.
