What was Odins punishment for atheism?

Did the norse/anglo saxon gods punish people for not believing in them?

they wouldn't get punished, they'd just wouldn't acquire super-human strength/abilities/blessings because they lacked faith.

They wouldn't punish people, but they might be socially ostracized and alienated.

In the Odinic rite, like in the Eleusian Mysteries, failing to attain spiritual immortality or awakening is eternal death.

Nothing. Don't treat Paganism like Christianity.

This is a common theme and misconception on this board.

Paganism has no "sins" no "punishments" and "eternal hell" for doing bad stuff. Really, might makes right.

The only reason you would "behave" in society is to get what you want and not be butchered by your neighbors, but if you can get away with it, go for it

What people do not understand is the Havamal is not the Asatru version of the "Ten Commandments" it is just a guide to living a better life. The Havamal is not saying you have to do this or that but that you should do it (if you want to live with a good name). And even so one can still have a good name even if he did not follow one or two of the guidelines set down in the Havamal. The important thing is friends and family and what legacy you leave behind. Remembrance for good deeds is more important than if say you were a bit of an alcoholic or a rapscallion. As long as you gave more than you took. As long as you returned gift for gift and exchange laughter with laughter. That is all that matters. I have friends who after I past will gladly erect a runestone to my memory. I have family who would gladly drink to my memory. That is all that fucking matters. Anyone else who says otherwise is a Christ-cuck LARPing as a heathen.

Huh. Christianity and Christian thinking has been so ingrained into the European mind over the past millennia that it's almost alien to consider how pre-Christian Europeans understand concepts like morality. I am worried that future Odinism might always carry a blemish of Christian influence into its future.
