"Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson: Icelandic Ásatrú has nothing to do with those paths that engage with politics or the doctrines of racial preservation. In fact, I get more hate mail from American so-called Ásatrúers than anyone other religious groups. I think that’s telling. If you think about it, we had no conception of nationhood back in the 9th century, when our values began taking shape. If you read Hávamál, it’s about how to meet other cultures and be a good guest or host to the world around you. These are ancient sayings for the traveller – not for the guy sitting at home on his ass thinking his living room is the centre of the world."

How does this quote make you feel?

Seems like he is too reliant on the eddas and not any other source of ancient asatru practices. Which is kind of stupid because the Eddas alone do not paint a whole picture of that culture.

>If you read the Havamal

EXCUSE ME sir but I think it's YOU that needs to read the Havamal

A guest must depart again on his way,
nor stay in the same place ever;
if he bide too long on another's bench
the loved one soon becomes loathed.

That bar must be strong which unbars the door
to each and every one
show the beggar your back lest bearing thee grudge
he wish you all manner of mischief.

Being kind to guests and hospitality is a core part of Asatru, but Odin himself in the Sayings of Har tells us not to be too trusting to guests when they overstay their welcome, not working to pay back or staying around longer than was agreed upon. Soon they start to become a burden on you and your family and give you no privacy, trying to convert your religion or molest your children. But these words ring true, especially if they show themselves to be untrustworthy with their actions. Think of "wishing you all manner of mischief" compared to the Arabs and Jews, the former who have raped thousands of our young girls in Rotherham along with all sorts of mischief including drugs, rape, beatings, "Sharia Law Zones" etc. and the latter (Jews) who have promoted immigration of the former, promotion of interracial marriage through media and porn, humiliated our cultures and origins and even planted the worlds largest Menorah in front of the Victory Gate in Germany.

"Mischief" indeed

You could say that maybe he's just saying this for the sake of not receiving any flak from the generally anti-white western establishment, but if I were to put out a generic "I'm not a raycissss" statement I wouldn't justify it with some half-baked shit, I'd just say "No, we're not a racist organisation" and leave it there. If I wanted to be secure in political correctness, I'd just try to avoid talking about it as much as possible. As such, I think we are indeed correct that Iceland is seeing some SJW shit creeping in. Now, it could be the case that this sees Asatru grow and then splinter due to some disagreeing with the leftist bullshit they're fed, seeing Iceland holding a roughly universalist organisation and a roughly folkish organisation, but this remains to be seem and which would end up with the temple, too, would remain to be seen (likely the universalist one, sadly).

I'll add that it's a damn fucking shame that most people who share our non-religious views are Catholics or Orthodox Christians. I don't hate Christians like many do, but obviously I would rather folkish Heathens than decent Christians. Honestly, though, I'd rather be neighbours with a decent Christian than a SJW universalist Heathen. Loosely sharing my faith doesn't mean anything if you don't even value your own blood.

At any rate, my point in mentioning non-SJW Christians in comparison to SJW Heathens is this: If we were to convert anyone to our cause, do we think it would be easier to convert Christians who differ theologically but share many other beliefs, by way of appeal to their love of European things and ours being a native European faith, or to convert Asatruar/wider Heathens who share the base religious ideas but differ in politics and practice, by way of getting them to think about what will happen to their religion if their countries are swamped by people less religiously tolerant than the Christians they currently have for neighbours?

Also:

>we had no conception of nationhood back in the 9th century

What the fuck is that supposed to mean? Even if it's true, it would absolutely not matter. There was no need for a conception of nationhood, since there was hardly any danger to that nation being destroyed. They didn't see themselves as a nation because they didn't have to. It simply doesn't matter if you see yourself as a nation or not if you actually are one. One could say the concept of nation was "discovered" when there was a need for it, but it existed before that.

Lets take this definition (I try my best to translate it):
The nation is a people, that in relation to a certain area through history has developed the awareness of a "We", "a whole", a "self", that wants to build as this "self" a common political will, which means a state, and in unremitting effort asserts its self-determination and self-assertion through history.

We call that Iceland.

Hilmarsson in this quote calls for the destruction of Iceland. And that obviously includes his believes, as they are an integral part of the idea of Iceland. He literally justifies the destruction of his believes using his believes.

>If you think about it

Maybe he's right in that the Icelanders specifically didn't have much of a concept of nationhood at that time, but you're right - they didn't need it, they were alone on their island. Earlier continental Germanic people certainly did have concepts of nationhood, because they needed them. They identified as belonging to their tribes, and above that to what we could call a nation - a confederation of tribes, like the Saxons or Franks. Unless I misremember, Tacitus mentions that the Saxons frowned upon marrying non-Saxons. "[N]o concept of nationhood", huh?

>How does this quote make you feel?
He's a traitor plain and simple.
He's a "priest" who doesn't know anything about his own ancestors or their faith.
The preservation of family and familial honor was paramount, this means they had a far better understanding of nationhood than this left winged cuck.

Also, the old Germanics were warriors.
They weren't cucks that let foreigners invade their countries.
When Roman legions moved into their borders they didn't say "we need to be good hosts", they went to war.
When Charlemagne gave them the choice between the sword and Christianity they didn't think "we can have to be tolerant of our differences", they died fighting.

Does he think the Gods would have invited the ice giants to live in their halls and let them lay around while living off of their hard work?
Does he think they would have let them commit crimes against them?
Does he think they would have let them rape their women and children?

There's a big fucking difference between being a good host and letting your country get invaded, your people exterminated and your culture destroyed.

>we had no concept of nationhood

Nation:

Middle English: via Old French from Latin natio(n-), from nat- 'born', from the verb nasci.

This word came via Old French from Latin natio, from nasci, meaning ‘to be born’. The link between ‘country’ and ‘birth’ was the idea of a people sharing a common ancestry or culture. The Latin verb nasci is the source of many familiar English words connected with birth…

Yes they will. If he were a true heathen he would know that our laws are that of nature, and if you violate those laws (i.e. Walking off a cliff) you die. He refuses to acknowledge the very laws of his people and his gods and for that he and his line will die.

It's ironic as all hell that people use this guy as the definitive argument about race and Asatru given what he says. Like he's the fucking Asa-Pope. He comes off as saying on the one hand that race has no place here and has this air of superiority because he's from Iceland and thinks he has the only claim on our heritage, but at the same time says it's for everyone.

Also give Iceland a decade or two and let's just see how his opinions on leaving racial preservation out of Asatru change shall we? I bet he'll be singing a different tune when the kikes set their claws into their island.

Honestly American Asatru is the perfect Asatru in my opinion. Strong and unwavering in it's beliefs, yet not a supremacist organization. It respects other peoples cultures and beliefs and in return asks the same be done for ours.

>How does this quote make you feel?

I'm mixed on it, so I'll deconstruct it line by line.

>Icelandic Ásatrú has nothing to do with those paths that engage with politics or the doctrines of racial preservation.

Realistically, I don't think Asatru specifically is about politics, nor about racial preservation…not in a "1488" sort of way, that is.

>In fact, I get more hate mail from American so-called Ásatrúers than anyone other religious groups.

I can believe this too, and I do think american asatru has a lot of groups in it that are more "nazi mysticism" than "folkish asatru". Not that racism or folkishkeit are bad, but literally groups that are broadly nazis that simply appropriate heathen symbols without actually performing reconstructed religion.

>I think that’s telling. If you think about it, we had no conception of nationhood back in the 9th century, when our values began taking shape.

Eh, Hilmar, if your folk had no concept of nationhood, why did they write islendingabok rather than nordmennsbok? Why could they distinguish the skraelingjar from the icelander and the greenlander?

>If you read Hávamál, it’s about how to meet other cultures and be a good guest or host to the world around you.

only the first 79 stanzas, but yes, I agree, especially as someone who is well travelled. For every line of "be good to guests", though, there's a line of "spears may save your life". I mean, hell, the first stanza of havamal is basically a paranoid "check your corners, bruh".

>These are ancient sayings for the traveller – not for the guy sitting at home on his ass thinking his living room is the centre of the world."

This is also truth, but it needs to be known that most americans have lived in small towns with more people in them than the whole of iceland. I would dare say that it is the icelander who is in his living room acting like he knows the world.
