Give 'Em One of These: Our Emigration to 8chan.moe/loomis/
Unfortunately, the recurring software issues that had plagued 8kun since early in its transitional state from 8chan to today has ultimately necessitated us to choose a new home.
Having heard encouraging news from its owner, 8chan.moe/loomis/ has been selected to be that blank canvas we've desperately needed. I hope the new board and the lack of recurring software woes that had been a point of contention for the entire year or so we'd remained here inspires people to post more and work harder than ever.
I've never been nearly as productive as I should be, but the fact that this site's issues subverted even basic communication on a fairly regular basis or left myself and others guessing if any activity was happening at all made me all the more dispirited-and for those and other reasons I don't think any of us can justify holding out hope things will simply improve spontaneously some day as I'd foolishly done for so long. I owe you all an apology.
This site and better yet the loomis board on anon.cafe will remain ample life rafts should anything bad happen to .moe in the future. In the immediate, I will be attempting to harvest some of the more meritorious content here and porting it to .moe over the coming weeks.
tl;dr: friendship with 8kun.top is ended, now 8chan.moe/loomis/ is our best friend.
I hope to see you there!

Automobiles
How to draw cars? Are there any must know techniques, tips, tutorials, and books?
While I am not too bad of an artist otherwise, cars, especially aerodynamic ones, were something that I always struggled with. Judging by how little people draw cars or just stick to simplified or cartoonish designs, others seem to have difficulties with them as well.
My current method is printing out lightened reference photo, draw over it by breaking it into basic 3D figures and then do whole thing in reverse on the actual drawing. However, it is somewhat tedious and not very efficient when I just want to draw something from real life.
Drawing Together
These two posts made a good point.
We should be drawing together regularly. I've already tried it successfully with another anon in that thread, but a higher turnout rate would be nice.
That's what this thread is for. It serves to be make organization easier and visible for everyone interested, instead of being buried and unnoticed in an unrelated thread.
Discuss what's a good time for a regular scheduled session, when you plan on hosting or joining a session or simply post a roomcode.
It would be shame if we'd be unable to get a few people together on a board about drawing when other boards manage to do it successfully.
You can get the software needed to draw together here: https://drawpile.net/download/
Art Marketing (Greedy Tanuki Edition)
Considering that most of us here probably want to find a way to make money of art through commissions or maybe getting a job for a company maybe, its worthwhile to discuss ways of getting your name out there on the internet.
And I'm sure some of the artanons here do have regular commissions and a decent consumer/fan base. If you are comfortable sharing your secrets with us, do tell.
Obviously some general advice is to post on every platform you can.
While maybe not the best advice, I've noticed even with a tiny fucking twitter following, I'll get the most responses drawing fanart of popular things. In this case it was Dark Souls 3

from any angle how do you do
are there books that helps do this?
i have practice drawing alot of faces but when i fall into drawing drills ornpropellers or even hands its nil all over again…
i feel like the "practice" mantra is not all inclusive solutions… are there books that helps deal with various materials but thru a single way of drawing?
pls help suggest books to do this tx
Is there someone wants to donate this book so I can dissemble the spine and scan it? I used to have this book but it went missing when I move out from my old apartment to a smaller room. It already took up space before so a digital copy would be nice. I'll give my contact if someone interested to participate in this.

Lifting weights will raise your art gains and your spirits, fellas. You'd be surprised what you can accomplish with a handful of inexpensive dumbbells. Exercise and moderation in diet has proven to be a potent treatment for depression and lethargy and many other symptoms which are otherwise practically inherent to modern living. Don't be ashamed to start simple, light and easy. Give it a try!

Is it possible to get good in 1 year if I'm starting from near zero? I'd be willing to put in around 5 hours of practice a day. How long did it take you guys? What resources are essential?

So, what do you like to listen while drawing?
I downloaded a few OSTs and ended up settling on Nier Automata's OST.
Comfy songs are really comfy and combat songs are really motivating. The singer's voice is also pretty soothing, even during the boss themes.
It's most of what I've listened to while studying/drawfagging.

ImagineFX: Tutorial and Infographic Thread
While the articles are fairly brief they are produced by working artists from a variety of disciplines and many leave the reader with something to think about, at least. I have the entire library on my iPad and a perfect excuse to post some of the better ones: I want to access them on my PC but the "Microsoft Store" app version sucks and doesn't have the same deals the iOS version does ($50 for the entire back-issue library and semi-annual sales for $3 an issue).
the HAPPENING
Sorry I've been a bit inactive on the board these past couple weeks, guys. I live in Saint Paul, Minnesota and even though we haven't been hit a tenth as hard as our neighboring city Minneapolis I've still been in fight or flight mode this entire time and my already dubious productivity has taken a hit as a result.
How are you all doing?
Any resources for comics?
Any good resources for writing comics? Like not necessarily mango crap, but interesting stuff on how to use panel shapes composition and organization and text boxes and whatnot.
Ive been just reading comics I like and studying the techniques they use, and if you guys are interested I can talk a bit about what i've figured out.
Pornography doesn't exist
Nudity and sexuality have always been an inseparable part of art, what do you think was the purpose of ancient and priceless paintings depicting sexual scenes?
This isn't unique to modern culture, and you're also fundamentally misunderstanding art if you think it's a bad thing.
Nudity and sexuality are something seen as dirty by the western world, and high art is always dirty. Painting something safe and socially acceptable is the art of cowards. Beyond that, there is a deep beauty to the vulnerability involved with sexuality and nudity, especially in cultures that try to suppress those topics.
TLDR: What you consider art has the artistic merit of motel wallpaper.
Windows Surface RT
Reminder that the Windows Surface RT is an absolute piece of FUCKING shit but it's also the best .pdf reader available even today and can be found for roughly $50 on Amazon or Ebay RIGHT NOW!
>if it's a piece of shit why would I want it?
Because it's very inexpensive, its battery lasts a decent while, it has a huge screen and it can be oriented vertically without any additional accessories-and you can transfer your .pdfs and .mp4 videos to it seamlessly. As a computer it is a miserable experience, but for an artist it's a valuable tool for books, high resolution photographs for reference or figure drawing and to a lesser extent videos.
Ourobooru
Hello /loomis/, I would like to inform you about https://ourobooru.booru.org/index.php , the new booru for 8kun and the bunkers. I've been iffy about posting this, but here I go.
Lately, I've been combing through this board collecting things to upload, but since the art here often seems more personal, and some of you might actually (want to) have careers, I figured I'd give you all a chance to object to things you don't want uploaded to ourobooru.
Here's the scraps I've saved so far:
https://mega.nz/#F!5cpU1QwJ!GyZXv4aNFUFTxaKWeZKnjg
It's not 100% sorted, but I figure doing this now is better than never. Pics in the "posted" folder are images already applied, "not gonna make it" is for images I won't be uploading, (the server hosts officially ban lolicon, and posting a bunch portraits of real people seems like a bad idea). I'm not staunchly against uploading them, but I'll personally refrain from doing so out of caution.
Anyway, just know you don't need an account to tag or image post to the booru, and help is appreciated. Have a good day.

Recommended time spent drawing per day
Hello drawfags. I just started seriously drawing about a week ago (I've taken art classes in high school years ago but they were mostly about drawing from reference and I haven't drawn since) and I've been making good progress with the fundamentals. Unfortunately, I ended up not drawing at all for two days and my muscle memory went to absolute shit and I pretty much spent all day rebuilding it again. It is because of this that I've decided that I will draw every day for now on for at least 4 hours a day MINIMUM.
With that being said though, what do you anons recommend that someone spend on drawing as per a daily basis? I know that the obvious answer is going to be "draw as much as possible/whenever you can" but i'm talking about if you just don't have the whole day to do it, or if you're sore from work/tired/sick etc. and you want to push yourself to at least draw enough to feel satisfied for the day.
tl;dr What is anon's BARE MINIMUM time spent drawing per day or even week?
Composite Sketch thread
>The majority of forensic artists would probably confess that composite sketches aren’t very accurate. In fact, hand-drawn composites are roughly 9 percent accurate, while computer-generated ones result in only 5 percent accuracy.
Let's see if Loomis can beat that, and have some fun doing it.
>think of any face, criminal or famous person not required, it can be your own aunt
>enter the thread with a description, as clear and concise as possible, but be prepared to answer additional questions from anyone who takes up the task of drawing the "suspect"

Mind control and Art
Has anyone noticed how fucked everything is. There's some serious indoctrination going in the artist community, even here people are seriously blind. The way people are taught are to draw over and over again till they get it right, lose their imagination and their ability to think freely, lose what makes people happy, the controlling class either want you to kill yourself or put you in a wheel of despair that is getting hooked off the dopamine hits off twitter, either way they want to turn you into a docile sheep.
Like of course drawing over and over again will help, but forgetting your imagination, visualization, child like wonder will drain your soul.
People here don't seem to understand why they don't draw, and it's because you don't care about anything, you can't because they've already sucked your dopamine dry with the internet, games, etc. That would otherwise fuel your imagination.
If you look at someone like kim jung gii, his addiction is drawing, but he's still a man with the mind of a child, he draws what he's wants and gets told off, rather than mindlessly obey, that's the reason he's happy and not a soy man child, that wonders why his drawing give him nothing. The reason he's able to do what he wants, is because when someone told him to stop daydreaming, he did it anyway. There's nothing unique to his mind, that's what the controlled media wants you to think. He's just a person that never conformed from his instincts.
You need to understand that you'll never improve as long as your life force is being zapped from your electronics, you can't be happy if you lose your ability to wonder. I hope someone gets black pilled anyway.
Fixing your (lack of) motivation
ITT: we try to understand motivation, help each other understand our problems with it, and come up with solutions to them.
Post things that get into your way of getting shit done, and things you've noticed that help you get over them or just get motivated. Post ANY thoughts you have on the subject, this seems to be the biggest obstacle for most people (including myself), but there doesn't seem to be much effort put into understanding or fixing it.
Psychedelic/glitch art
Check out my instagram for quality psychedelic/glitch art and edits. I also do free artwork for people who wish to request something, i only ask that you spread the word about my instagram and that i may be able to post it if i choose. Thank you guys!
ITT: we criticise the art of Chris-chan.
It's flat and has no sense of being three-dimensional, the characters are drawn very inconsistently, Chris has visibly not progressed significantly in drawing for over a decade, and you can just tell he has no concept of figure drawing. Strangely he can draw shoes pretty well for someone with no skills in art.
"Why are you doing it if you don't enjoy it"?
I've heard this statement "Why are you doing it if it just frustrates you?" a lot when I mention my feeling toward drawing. Especially to some artists. Like a lot of artists describe this feeling of genuine euphoria with drawing and I've never felt this way toward it. I always viewed drawing as very rigid and systematic like I'm lifting weights or doing math.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the subject? I've always thought after I git gud at art and I feel like I can draw anything that my feelings of anxiety while drawing would go away. Which is the main reason I'm doing it to begin with. So I can create things I can passably consider good, so I don't have to rely on others to draw things for me. But I've read from people that I should be looking for some deeper meaning toward it that I just don't really see.
I know this is a stupid question but how well should a 15 year old be drawing?
Could you give me some examples of what most of you were doing when you were 15?
I've been having some really big issues with my self-confidence lately and I want to see if they were justified.

Underwater Hampture guy is doing an art contest!
That's right, the underwater hamster guy that used to post videos on /sci/ 8 years ago never stopped the project and is now doing an art contest! Not much else to say other than the contest is really obscure so you don't need to be amazing to win something (only original). The prizes are so-so but you could make some money since he is looking for an artist for merch if you are interested. Even if you don't want to have your art on a shirt or get the prizes, there isn't anything to lose and you can show your art to people that aren't artists themselves who will critique the hell out of you.

Come and get it
So, it seems article 13 got passed. Now I want to make something for the occasion, but I have some issues:
1)As you can see, I can't draw that good
2)I don't want it to be cringey, just something that anyone can appreciate
3)I wouldn't want to draw more newfags to 8chan
Does anyone have some tips?
I don't know if /loomis/ allows these type of threads, so if it doesn't, just delete it and sorry for my newfaggotry
How do you face the burden of oppressive crushing dread when you have a good perspective of just how far you have to go to make your art goals a reality?
Does having those feelings mean that you're aiming too high and far? Is it even a bad thing to do or does it become a bad thing when you are letting it impact your emotional well being? Does stubborn conviction and determination make the way less difficult to tread or can it lead you into bad habits and mediocrity?
How do you break down your path into reasonable chunks and make it work? Is hard work and study enough to make it? What did the people who you aspire to become like do to make it work? Is it a good idea to emulate what you perceive to be the good things they do? Are there resources out there that they had access to that people are simply unaware of?
Are we really gonna make it?

the Death of Tumblr and the New Adventures of Newgrounds.com
Tumblr is banning adult content soon, even if that's not your thing maybe consider making a Newgrounds account for old time's sake like many people are doing out of solidarity with our degenerate brothers and sisters. It'll never be as big as Twitter or something like that, but there isn't that compelling of a reason not to have one considering how cozy it remains to be.
are there any more technical innovations for drawing/painting to go through?
first there were cave paintings, and then shit like hieroglyphs where they got a better handle of proportions, and then there was perspective, and now we've had photorealism for long enough that (((modern "art"))) has been around for a while as a response to conventional art.
i don't think this is the end though. i think it's naive and hubristic to believe that we've reached the pinnacle of what can be done with art from a technical perspective. i'm pretty sure cavement fingerpainting with berry juice tens of thousands of years ago thought the same thing. so what do you think might be the next advancement? maybe there's a human sense that we haven't discovered yet, or maybe it's possible to make images that stimulate your brain so that it makes you hallucinate smells, but the guy who invents that won't be born until 2118

Artist Thread
What are some artists you look up to?
Do you just like their art or the subject as well?
Starting out with Arata Yokoyama.
He mostly does these rough painting looking art, though sometimes he spends time refining them more to create cleaner paintings.
90% of what he paints is casual cute girls doing casual cute girl things, which is something I aspire to paint, so there's that.
There are better artist I like like Dalí and Beksiński, but they're pretty well known here, so I'm going to stick to more unknown ones to show people new artists. Feel free to post well known artists though.
When I think about it, the reason I wanted to draw in the first place was to make game sprites. They don't even have to be complex looking, but they do have to have some level of appeal like pic related. So creating original sprites, and animating them, that is all I care about right now, and going through a bunch of figure drawing lessons seems like a huge detour from that. It makes me wonder when the hell I'd be able to start doing what I actually wanted to do in the first place. How should I approach something like this? I doubt Matt Groening studied plates of vilppu in order to make the Simpsons.
Looking for art zine submissions
I'm creating a art zine focusing on alternative manga/comic, please check the https://github.com/mtk538/Zine for more info about what we're looking for, themes etc.
Pic rel is Cover page WORK IN PROGRESS
What is it about traditional that makes it so much more appealing to me than digital art? That's not to say digital is bad, but when you compare similar art from both mediums, there's something uncanny about digital art. Like it's too clean, or the colors are never quite right. There's something I just can't put my finger on.

Someone in /a/ was struggling to fit a reference image onto their screen because the resolution was so small, so I thought it would be cool if you could put an image onto the screen somehow.

Studying how stuff works
What if you spent a day or two learning about how different parts of a car work? What makes the engine work, what's the purpose of all the different parts, how to do maintenance on it, etc. It would only take a few days to get a rough picture, but you could use that knowledge to draw and design all kinds of mechanical things from there on out. If you know how it works, it's much easier to draw it and things related to it than just trying to judge it by the way you remember it looking, and if you want something similar in your design you know roughly how to make one.
The same can be applied for all kinds of things like clothing and architecture and furniture (e.g. studying why it has the shape and parts that it has and why something looks a certain way). A car specifically has a lot of different variety of parts and many of them are very generic and applicable to common things.
I'm not sure where I'm going with this. Would there be interest in a thread where we take subjects and then explore together about how they work and what caused them to have the shape/design they have, and maybe draw them? Any ideas how to look for or where you could learn about these kinds of things without having to read a whole book about it?
Weekly theme
Long time ago /fur/ used to have weekly threads where everyone drew something based on a theme, with each week having a new theme, and it didn't matter what you drew as long as it was somehow related.
Would you guys be interested of doing something similar? Are there even enough drawfags here to do something like it?
What does /loomis/ think of intellectual property?
and by extension, moral rights? Should artists really have custody of their art even after it's exchanged? If so, why? I honestly don't think the guy in pic related is wrong at all. Sometimes when artists put annoying signatures in the middle of the focus of the pic that I like, I'll open up an image editing program and relocate it somewhere off to the side so it doesn't clog up the focus, is that really so wrong?
Book Sources
I have serious difficulty with remaining focused on anything, and part of how I'm trying to cope with that is to get away from all electronic devices while I'm supposed to be practicing. As it is, I can barely draw for half an hour a day. Unfortunately, that means I can't rely on .PDFs. I'm ready to throw some money down on physical books, but I don't want to give Amazon or Google a cent. Where can I get books without contributing to entities I detest?
>I was only 19 years old
>I loved Dynamic Anatomy so much, I had all the 1950s Tarzan comics and in-depth books
>I pray to Burne Hogarth every night before bed, thanking him for the life I've been given
>"Dynamic Anatomy is love" I say; "Dynamic Anatomy is life"
>Loomis hears me and calls me a faggot
>I know he was just jealous of my devotion for Burne Hogarth
>I called him a cunt
>He slaps me and sends me to go to sleep
>I'm crying now, and my face hurts
>I lay in bed and it's really cold
>Suddenly, a warmth is moving towards me
>It's Burne Hogarth
>I am so happy
>He whispers into my ear "The ideal human form is 9 heads high."
>He grabs me with his expertly rendered hands and puts me down onto my hands and knees
>I'm ready
>I spread my chest for Burne
>He turns my pectoralis major into chrome
>It hurts so much but I do it for the sake of perfection in the human form
>I can feel my muscles becoming more defined as my eyes star to water
>I twist my upper body 180 degrees
>I want to please Burne
>He roars in a mighty roar as he labels all 44 of my hyper-defined muscle structures
>Loomis walks in
>Burne looks him straight in the eyes and says "It's all dynamic now."
>Burne leaves through my window
>Dynamic Anatomy is love. Dynamic Anatomy is life.

Snapshot and Accountability Thread
Post what ever you're working on now, no matter the condition, after that you post updates on what you're working on in this thread until it's complete.
This is what I'm working on. My hope is to brute force my way to get good at rendering and values.
Does anyone know a good website like CTRL+Paint and drawabox that teaches art fundamentals without mostly gearing towards traditional drawing? I don't have time for wasting another money on papers and a expensive high quality pencils cuz i already got myself Wacom Intuos and want a website similar to drawabox or ctrl+paint but geared towards digital drawing.
Anybody got a good customized setup/settings and a recommended workflow for either Manga Studio or SAI? I have both of those programs but i don't know which one i should main, i have problems with importing images on SAI (in case i want a reference for body, pose, character, etc), but it's easy to do so on Manga Studio (it kinda reminds me of Photoshop a little).
Also i don't even have a mentor to help me with learning art fundamentals, it's kinda difficult learning fundamentals myself since i don't know which books and tutorials should i follow in chronological order.
where is the line between "art" and just a painting or drawing?
what takes precedent in determining what is or isn't art? what the creator says it is, or what everyone else says it is?
i make drawings and paintings from time to time. i don't consider them to be art, although i colloquially refer to them as art sometimes because that's just the blanket term most people use for this stuff. i just think of my stuff as paintings and drawings. just because an image was rendered by a person doesn't mean its a work of art, sometimes its just an image. not all drawings are art. not all paintings are art.
i am in no way comparing myself to him, but what would you think if, for example, rembrandt said that his paintings weren't art, but he still had the same reputation he has now as a great artist? would his stuff still be art even if he insisted that they weren't?
the Harold Speedpill: the Practice and Science of Drawing
ATTN Atelier-Anon
Alright, I've finally gotta ask about this book, man. Give me the 4-1-1 Rundown Redpill on Harold Speed if you could (but if you'd rather not no big deal, of course)
Perhaps unfairly judging the book by the chapter and plate index at the beginning it only starts talking about actual instructional stuff (in this case grid drawing) almost 100 pages in? I have read it a fair bit before that point and I like some of the stuff that's written beforehand-but he'll explain a concept in a paragraph beautifully and then go on tangents about art history, cultural art, philosophy etc. for page after page afterwards.
At first glance I'm not super convinced of this hefty tome's superiority over other books, but I would invite you to share your personal experience with it and what you may have taken away from it on a personal level in this thread rather than in the many other threads where you'd mentioned it in passing only for it to be quickly buried under pictures of crudely drawn boobies.

People say that if you practice, you will get good enough. Yet my lil sis is just a kid and she draws things that beffudle me to this day.
It makes it real hard to even want to try. I am still convinced that everyone who gits gud at art had some talent to start up. Or am I wrong?
are there any good books or video series that would get me closer to Nezumi's art style and skill level. Truth be told, I don't want to do lewd art any more but I still want the ability to be as good as her when it comes to anatomy and stylization. There's something I always liked about her art and I want to be able to deliver the same quality.
Zootopia Art Thread
Pic is close to the style I want, but the style feels a little bit "flimsy" as Nick seems to have anorexia or something with his really thin arms. How could we draw it better so he's not a sumo, but he feels natural and not like a 35 year old vegan?
Also, feel free to post/create/etc. any Zootopia art.
Is it retarded to draw the same thing again and again from reference?
Hi,
is it retarded to draw a complex subject again and again from reference with the arm, not the wrist?
I guess you can Train your muscle Memory though this, so is it a weak method or does it Count as legit drawing Training?
Board-tan
Does /loomis/ have a board-tan? seems appropriate, if not!
I thought maybe it could be a robot girl who hates her art but is trying to improve. Also, since the sketch lines would always have to show as part of her design, the very act of drawing her is a means of improving your drawing skill, because it forces you to think about the shapes that comprise her.
what do you guys think? I wasn't sure what to name her, suggestions?

If anyone is able to do it, could it please be in an Artstyle similar to pic related, what's a WEG without an attractive artstyle, right?
Currently, we have many ideas and concepts in place, but we are still in the planning stage and getting things together. But right now, we are trying to get what we need to start laying the ground work for the game, and would appreciate any little bit of help we can get even if it is just basic assets.

Commissioning/Requesting and something else
First off: how do I learn color theory, shading, and all that? My anatomy is wonky, but that takes practice; I want to learn coloring first, then emotions, then learn gestures, and finally anatomy.
Until then, though… who do I commission/request, and would it be possible for them to record their process? I'm a furry btw, but feel free to mention anime/etc artists, although mention that they're anime/etc artists.
What the fuck is with these prices
Hey /loomis/
Got How To Draw by Scott Robertson and I was shopping around for ellipse templates. Why are these things so expensive? Aren't they just a printed sheet of plastic, like a ruler with holes punched out?
Shops were wanting close to 200 maplebux for a set of ten, used they were still over 100.
Does anyone here have a set? How much did you pay, in case they're cheaper in other countries?
Anyone got a rip of this video art course?
Hello there anons, newfag here. Didn't know we had a board like this here on quadro^2chan, but now that I do, I think I may frequent it since I do have a thing for drawing and painting.
On to the point of my thread: Before I even found this board I found this video art course on Steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/494900/
However as I am a poorfag I never bought it, other things come first. I don't even know if it's good. So tell me, is it good and more importantly, do you have a free download link somewhere?
Cheers anons
My noobishness and inability to get gud
Excuse me. I apologize as I am new here, I don't normally show up on any art boards. But I've been reading for a bit, I think I understand. I know people say start with the basics, and I know people say start in realism before you deviate from it.
I mean I'm willing to learn, but for a while I couldn't stand realism. As weird as that sounds. What I mean is I was…at one point what you would call a "fantasist" without saying too much, I will say this I spent some of my life in an artificial existence.. In other words my imagination. And I hated how certain people tried to get me to draw the way they wanted. As you can guess I liked them animus..a lot so I tried to draw a lot of those.
Lemme skip to my main point. I suppose if I am to learn to get gud I need to step out of my comfort zone is that correct?
Also can someone direct me to resources for an absolute beginner?
I apologize if I was rambling. I tend to do that sometimes. I just hope I was able to make enough coherent sense.
If this discussion is not exactly relevant to this board. I apologize as well. Thank you for reading this far.
Git gud together
I've wanted to get good for as long as I can remember, but I keep dropping art randomly and taking long breaks. Sometimes it's just hard to force mysef to draw without getting the urge to an hero. I'm too alone, too lost in the journey of learning.
When I try to look for an art community, it's always people drawing porn and/or with minimal interaction.
How do I find people who truly want to get good? Like REALLY good, not just drawing fap material or cartoon memes. I feel so alone in imageboards. It seems I can only dream of a tightly knit group of artists who help each other and improve together and share thoughts and insights as they learn.

There, I fixed it! copied nearly verbatim from /ic/, stuff to study coming up in the next post:
Classical/academic art Q&A
Hey, everyone.
Thought I’d set up this thread in case anyone has any questions or wants to know more about the practices of classical/academic drawing/painting. What I mean by classical/academic is primarily the kind of realistic art developed throughout the 19th century and what is continued today in what most people call realist ateliers or academies.
Feel free to ask anything or bring up any art related subject.
I won’t pretend to speak with any form of authority on the matter, just give my opinion that is based on what I’ve learned about the subject. This might be a good chance for some to hear opinions that are uncommon in the world of “online” or “digital” art and maybe add a bit of nuance to many of the “art memes” floating around.
Anyway, if there is anything, ask away and I’ll get to it when I see it.
Welcome to /loomis/ !
This board is intended for the discussion of a variety of artistic subjects, with an emphasis on illustration and animation.
If you're looking for books, video lectures and demonstrations on these subjects, please see the /loomis/ resource hub archived at:

Keep drawing, my friends.
Dealing with people disrespecting your art
I fucked up at work and left my sketch book out that I was working on while I went to lunch. I came back to see my managers bottle of tea sitting on top of my work. It left a nasty water mark on the page and ruined it. How do you deal with general disrespect for your work? I shouldn't let it bother me, but it has me really dejected.
Personal learning blog
Hi /loomis/, longtime lurker, longtime fan of the board
I quit drawing when I started my last year of highschool. Seeing my work go nowhere since middle school made me give up. I was always a defeatist so giving up and hating myself was the easy part.
Now that's changed however and I am going to systematically start drawing once again, and post at least one sketch/exercise here every day. I plan to focus on drawing humans, and even though I'm re-learning from scratch, I'll give you the quick rundown on my drawing skill or lack thereof :
>only humans, no animals
>always soldiers or knights/medieval warriors
>can't draw faces
>always drew feet in boots
>always drew hands holding a gun/sword
>proportions are always off
I'll post my old drawings once I find them. Feel free to give me any advice, or just laugh and mock.
Just out of curiosity...
What is your personality like? Just be honest, say both the shitty side and great side of your personality.
My personality is generally caring for others, but I care for others too much and I always end up hurting them somehow. I am also incredibly annoying on purpose, but I try to be annoying in a way that will lighten people up, but fail and end up looking like an asshole.
Credit to Sweirde for the art and character. I do not claim the rights to it.
Plateaued
First off, let me preface this by saying how surprised I'm to find such a beautiful place within this myriad of fuckfest. As you probably have guessed from the title, I feel like I'm stuck and not improving; I have this idea of game character that I'd like to draw, but I can't get myself to put on paper. I've been drawing on and off my entire life (I'm not that old tho), and I've started to take drawing seriously for a while now in order for me to draw this character, but in vain. I spend a tremendous amount of time copying others art and trying to learn from it with no proper results at all. So, I decided to grab some books to learn from like "Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain" and some other book by Mark Crilley(the youtuber), and here I'm with my dick in my hands, as I've failed to achieve any proper advancements.
tl;dr
Been drawing on and off, really good at copying, but can't draw from my imagination, and have spent a good amount of time trying trying to learn from other resources without any good results.
Non-native English speaker. Sorry for any grammar mistakes!
pens dont work
Doing drawabox
Got a bunch of pens like he reccomends, but they sometimes just stop working where the line comes out really faint whenever I draw over the same line a few times. Then I bought a couple that are the exact ones he reccomends.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000KJMIQU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Same problem though. It's all fine then the line comes out really faint. Then I scribble for a few seconds and then it's fine. I've got a bunch of pens and they all do this.
Is this just a flaw inherent to this type of pen or did I somehow manage to buy a bunch of pens where every single one is a dud?

the shadows are really hard. it's amazing how the original artist was able to draw the shadows and other body parts with great detail.
I'm not sure what to do. should I continue with this or should I start reading someother book. I would like learn how to draw properly but I'm not sure if doing this will make me better at drawing. Long-Term Part-Timer: Art Job
Could you use an extra $400-$600 a month? I know I could, nigga.
I'm a shitty artist looking for a marginally less shitty artist to help me realize a game project in both a timely manner and in a quality I otherwise could never achieve on my own. Character designs, splash art, animation frame tie-downs and cleanup, effects, environments et cetera. Nothing's off the table, G.
Send me your portfolios, your hourly rates, examples and estimates; let's do business.
I want someone who's motivated, versatile, willing to learn and is of course able to set aside time each week to help me push my ill-conceived project forward. At this time I'm looking for a character artist and designer in particular. I don't care what your rate is, but considering my own limited resources, I'm naturally going to gravitate towards whoever can get me the best work at the biggest volume relative to what I'm able to spend.
I'm looking for an anime/'toon' aesthetic. If you have an animation-friendly style already I'll definitely take a close look at you, but even if you've never animated or drawn a cartoon in your life I'm willing to give you a shot if you're willing to try.
Look at Shane Glines, Bruce Timm, Alex Ahad, XA-XA-XA, and Chris Battle over the next week or two, put some topical OC in your portfolio and hit me up.

Animal Anatomy Guide
Where should I learn to draw animals from?

Trying to work my way up to 12 hours a day, but so far can only do 9 hours in a 12 hour period.
Seems overwhelming tryng to figure out how to fit in repetitive and reinforcing Photoshop training, Watercolor Training, Ink Training, Portraits, Figures, Animal Anatomy, Master Studies, Perspective, etc. into a regular thing. How to keep so many plates spinning while also making time for friends and life and not becoming a hollowed out robot. Not to metion school is going to start again in the Fall, and I'm going to be looking for a part-time job, so I've got to squeeze those in as well.
Any thoughts/advice?
