New thread because old thread reached bump limit.

old thread: http://8ch.net/loomis/res/1588.html

the shadows are really hard. it's amazing how the original artist was able to draw the shadows and other body parts with great detail.

I'm not sure what to do. should I continue with this or should I start reading someother book. I would like learn how to draw properly but I'm not sure if doing this will make me better at drawing. I think I am not learning how to draw the anatomy/body parts of the human body by doing this. I'm not sure what I am even or meant to be doing anymore.

please help.

did thsi today. I thnk I am getting used to this.

I winder if this is helping me with my shaky hands. shadows are still hard to do.

after doing some of these draiwings I was supprised by how many artists use stright line to draw their drawints. I guess it dosen't always have to be curves.

I'm thinking of relearning anatomy again or continuing with this book.

Maybe you should continue with this book as far as you can take it. I can tell you've improved your observational drawing skills quite a bit-though you probably won't be able to easily get a result when it comes to the shadows and so on because you're working digitally. I think the important thing for now might be for you to get the lines and contours as accurately as you can.

I've been watching Marshall Vandruff's video lessons on perspective. This shit's a fucking game-changer. I had read D'Amelio's book a long time ago but I just realized the knowledge I gained was never applied correctly to my drawings.

I've decided to git gud at perspective before I keep practicing my figure drawing, so I'll finish what's left of the lessons and do the letter on a ball exercises he said.

Here's a torrent to his lessons if anyone feels like they need it, I'll be seeding for a while with my shit internet though, so prepare to wait

I think I will do at least one page a day from now so that I don't get board of doing this and just dropping this book. I really like how the left feet on the "feet lean" came out.

the Huion Giano is much less expensive than the Intuos Large and despite that is in some ways the better product (better size-I prefer the hotkeys more, too). The only fault of the Huion is that the pen is marginally worse

>no tilt feature

>feels "light" in a bad way versus the Wacom

>no eraser (I think most people just press "e" anyway)

>needs to be charged a couple times a month).

I think for the money, the Huion is the best. Reliability and longevity is definitely an "unknown" currently, but you could almost buy 3 Huions for the price of a single Intuos Large so it's a tough call unless money is absolutely no issue.

The only problem with that is because they're a chinese company I'm not sure how their customer service is in case something goes wrong. When I purchased mine I was lucky enough to not have any problems but those kinds of things happen. I suppose Ebay is risky too.

>too big

The size is just a buffer so that you can properly draw with your shoulder instead of your wrist, while still allowing you to use your wrist to make small marks and adjustments-much more precise. Also so that the lines and shapes you draw on the tablet will be displayed at a similar size on your monitor relative to the motion you make. It can't really be "too big" (unless it's actually bigger than your monitor, I guess!) as really it's just providing a similar function to a Cintiq (a 1:1 tablet/monitor ratio), just without the screen. It won't "make you better at drawing" necessarily (that's on you), but it is a tool that feels much more natural to draw on.

I personally think you should get it, man. If you don't like it you could probably sell it on Craigslist or Ebay for pretty close to what you buy it for. You've really soldiered on for a year on this board with that little thing you have now (what model was it again?) >$200 bucks really isn't that bad for something you're hopefully going to be using a lot of.

>I think I need to draw and practice more often to justify the purchase. I will get a bigger tablet thats fore sure but I will get it when I might be good enough to make money from it. but until then I will hold off on it.

The unfortunate truth is that neither of us will probably be making money from our art for quite some time.

Because of that, I don't think that's the best way to look at it. It might be several years even under ideal conditions that such a thing will be possible. I think of it like an entertainment expense more than anything. I can go out to a nice restaurant or the movies or something like that and spend $20-$25 easy for an hour or two of entertainment, but considering I know I'm going to be drawing for pretty much at least an hour a day for years on end, having a decent piece of equipment for that is money well spent.

In fact I'm sure I've spent over $2000 on this kind of stuff (here's a picture of a Cintiq 12WX I own that belongs in a garbage can). I don't really regret having done so, either, because now I can tell people what I'd experienced and hopefully keep them from making the same mistakes I had.

Anyway man I don't want to push the issue too much, nor do I want to give you the false impression that this tablet will solve all of your struggles with digital painting. Just keep practicing with what you have if you'd like. There are far better artists than me that use far worse equipment.

This guy (http://genzoman.deviantart.com/) uses a Wacom Bamboo 4x5 supposedly (I think a similar model to what you use). It's possible to be very adept with less than stellar tools.

I think what you said is true it will take me several years until I am good enough to start even making a dollor from my drawings. but I still think I should hold off on it for a while.

also if I am using a tablet this small does it matter if I keep doing the line and circle exercises by peter han? I think it might be because my tables are is so smal and I usually only use my wrist to draw. I also cant hold my pen like Proko does because the tip of the pen dosen't touch the tablet at that angle.
