Unfortunately, the recurring software issues that had plagued 8kun since early in its transitional state from 8chan to today has ultimately necessitated us to choose a new home.

Having heard encouraging news from its owner, https://www.8chan.moe/loomis has been selected to be that blank canvas we've desperately needed. I hope the new board and the lack of recurring software woes that had been a point of contention for the entire year or so we'd remained here inspires people to post more and work harder than ever.

I've never been nearly as productive as I should be, but the fact that this site's issues subverted even basic communication on a fairly regular basis or left myself and others guessing if any activity was happening at all made me all the more dispirited-and for those and other reasons I don't think any of us can justify holding out hope things will simply improve spontaneously some day as I'd foolishly done for so long. I owe you all an apology.

This site and better yet the loomis board on anon.cafe will remain ample life rafts should anything bad happen to .moe in the future. In the immediate, I will be attempting to harvest some of the more meritorious content here and porting it to .moe over the coming weeks.

tl;dr: friendship with 8kun.top is ended, now https://www.8chan.moe/loomis is our best friend.

I hope to see you there!

i dont think someone would turn their toe in on the leg they have their weight on. and the knees are weird - too low - and the shins are too short and the legs look like they are in some weird perspective - prolly cuz youre reacing the bottom of your 'page' and youre scrunching things. only people who draw would not

More mushrooms, but now in digital. I do not know how to eliminate the metallic effect of the yellow mushroom.

Really nice work, actually.

>metallic look

Your shading has sort of a strong, mechanical "gradation" from light to dark-perhaps it looks metallic but it still has appeal-I'd say it reminds me of some decent art of the sort used in mobile phone games.

How to draw cars? Are there any must know techniques, tips, tutorials, and books?

While I am not too bad of an artist otherwise, cars, especially aerodynamic ones, were something that I always struggled with. Judging by how little people draw cars or just stick to simplified or cartoonish designs, others seem to have difficulties with them as well.

My current method is printing out lightened reference photo, draw over it by breaking it into basic 3D figures and then do whole thing in reverse on the actual drawing. However, it is somewhat tedious and not very efficient when I just want to draw something from real life.

That first one is either a furry edit somebody made, or somebody paid RB to draw their fursona in there. I've seen it before and it was originally a human, pic related.

RB hates furries. They used to be in the furry community 20-something years ago (RB is like 40 or something) and drew that kind of art casually, but over the years drew less and less of it until they became actively hostile towards furries five or so years ago. They stopped doing commissions because of the weird shit furries paid them to draw.

It seems to me that you can use technical drawings, but in fact, you can draw them as you want, because now cyberpunk and post-apocalypse are very fashionable. There you can come up with cool cars.

Hmm, that's pretty interesting, thanks for the ideas! But sometimes, real cars bring many more problems, and you need to know exactly all the possibilities of how to protect your rights. For example, https://www.americaninsurance.com/what-deferred-adjudication-traffic-ticket. I didn't know about it at all, and as it turned out, there are many such different tips.

We should be drawing together regularly. I've already tried it successfully with another anon in that thread, but a higher turnout rate would be nice.

That's what this thread is for. It serves to be make organization easier and visible for everyone interested, instead of being buried and unnoticed in an unrelated thread.

Discuss what's a good time for a regular scheduled session, when you plan on hosting or joining a session or simply post a roomcode.

It would be shame if we'd be unable to get a few people together on a board about drawing when other boards manage to do it successfully.

You can get the software needed to draw together here: https://drawpile.net/download/

Thanks to the herculean efforts of our local chad and a touch of work by the rest of the regulars, the canvas got filled up before the scheduled event.

Yeah I'm still going to act as a good-faith steward of this board (perhaps against my better judgment). There's too much of our somewhat dubious legacy here to leave it completely abandoned and open to vandalism or what have you. Lifting weights will raise your art gains and your spirits, fellas. You'd be surprised what you can accomplish with a handful of inexpensive dumbbells. Exercise and moderation in diet has proven to be a potent treatment for depression and lethargy and many other symptoms which are otherwise practically inherent to modern living. Don't be ashamed to start simple, light and easy. Give it a try!

Simple <1/hr. routine:

Day 1:

Hammer Curl

Standing Shoulder Press

Standing Overhead Tricep Extension

Standing Lateral Raise

Dumbbell Curl

Day 2:

Dumbbell Rows

Dumbbell Side Bend

Push Ups

Planks

Day 3:

Dumbbell Squat

Dumbbell Deadlift

Dumbbell Lunge

Dumbbell Farmer's Carry

https://www.bodybuilding.com/exercises/equipment/dumbbell

If you're confident you can get a door frame pull up bar and add chin ups and pull ups to the mix.

I've been running to, around and back from a local lake 3-4 times a week. The lake is a 3 mile circumference and there's a half mile each both to the lake and back. You can barely see across it at its widest points so it was pretty intimidating at first but I just went for it and now I'll be on my 6th run soon (it can get extremely cold here so I limit myself to days where it's 25 degrees fahrenheit or above). The fact it only takes a little under an hour overall, even though I'm alternating between walking and jogging for the most part, really demystified the whole thing for me because you realize you're really not missing out on much by not spending that hour glued to your computer or phone like you'd likely normally be.

Running is actually pretty based fellas. You can walk too if you're in rough shape and not nearly as far-you might have to build up to it, don't be ashamed. Being the owner of an athletic dog has helped a lot with my personal motivation as well, when you see how you let a dog down by not giving them a walk or a run they expect it helps you visualize how you're actually letting yourself down.

Yeah I think I'm not alone when I say I've had just about enough. The front page showing stuff from days, sometimes up to a week or more prior is nothing new and it's one of those things that could very well keep someone from posting to begin with seeing as it makes the board look (even) dead(er). Both that and not being able to make threads owing to some error or another in general on a fairly regular basis have been something I'd dealt with personally so I've been left wondering how it might have been affecting others.

Over the past day and across something like a five hour period I'd been pain-stakingly porting over much of the better content (content that, if not technically refined, is at least evidence of someone's struggle for artistic self-actualization) from this board over to https://www.8chan.moe/loomis (up next, archiving highlights from the drawthreads if not their entiretey, selecting some of the more detailed and valuable critiques to archive in their own thread, as well as some of the miscellaneous stuff like making a thread for anon's comic series and the "weekly drawthread" cards as many of them were pretty clever and had some effort put into them by their creator).

I appreciate 8kun for allowing us to reclaim a home here but the technical issues have unfortunately been significant and persistent from the beginning-enough so that it's a wonder that we've been able to hold on to what little activity we have. Decentralization is ultimately a good thing, the 8kun board isn't necessarily going anywhere and can function as a redoubt should anything happen to 8chan.moe or the other backup board on anon.cafe; having more options does nothing other than help facilitate this small community's longevity. I held out hope that all the technical issues would eventually simply vanish but, foolishly, I'd kept on hoping and eventually I think something like an entire year had slid by.

I will be making an official exodus sticky on sunday, at which point I should have ported over everything I'd felt warranted it and then some. Thanks for your contintued patiencePost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Is there someone wants to donate this book so I can dissemble the spine and scan it? I used to have this book but it went missing when I move out from my old apartment to a smaller room. I am not sure what program you are using. You could download GIMP for free.

Here is an example of how I play with light sources. Take your image and darken it. Then use something like a Burn/Dodge tool and play around with where you think the light would hit depending on where you want your light source to be. Also draw simple figures. A small (4inch) featureless figure can go a long way.

Keep drawing :)

Ancestral Horrors from downstreet bakery is a webcomic about the things that happen in the downstreet bakery. At first I was trying to live through the character and really think through this feed;

This thread will be long. +-300 images were produced. I'll be answering all your questions. However I don't think anyone will ever see this.

Is it possible to get good in 1 year if I'm starting from near zero? I'd be willing to put in around 5 hours of practice a day. How long did it take you guys? What resources are essential?

Asking because I'd like to get into art school and next year is my only real opportunity.

Been going through drawing with the right side of the brain but the exercises seem pointless.

Also, recourse hub redirects me to the homepage wat do?

Speaking of all that. I got a Gumroad from an artist I really like a while back, Wakfu's art director (xa-xa-xa.deviantart.com) and the fact is it's just totally useless for the most part. It's nice to watch someone draw and you might pick up something here or there, but it really seems like a lot of the artists you'd want to be taught from can't teach worth a damn and a lot of the artists who can techncally teach and communicate well you wouldn't want to be taught by anyway. A background in traditional sight-size or comparative measurement, color theory and so on is probably as good as it gets as far as that goes because it's objective and mechanical. The rest is just drawing on your own and relying on the natural development and progression of your own creativity and intuition-two things which the truly stand-out artists seem to have in spades because they spent countless hours naively drawing people, places and miscellanea for fun both in their youth without a shit given about perspective, anatomy and so on.

I got good in less than one year (roughly nine months) by doing 4+ hours of practice each day. I would often vary it. Ex: an hour of sketching without reference, an hour of drawing from reference, an hour going through an art textbook and doing its exercises, and then an hour of going through video tutorials, etc.

Where study materials are concerned: I used NDRSB, Vitruvian Studios, Loomis' books (especially Fun with a Pencil), ALLA PRIMA by Richard Schmid, and some others odds & ends.

A good thing to do when you're doing longform, highly detailed portraits from reference is to work in cycles of correction. Do a few hours, take a picture, and use editing software to overlay it on the reference. This will help you identify mistakes. Correcting mistakes is one of the best methods for learning anything quickly, and it helps you get better results early on. This is NOT the same as tracing. You're looking at a review of your mistakes on a screen–you still have to correct freehand. Don't bother tracing unless you're doing it as a speed exercise for muscle memory or something like that.

Picture related: A portrait I drew about eight months in, having started from zero. I've been going for about a year and a half now, so I can do a little better than this, but it's perfectly possible to achieve results similar to pic related in a very short amount of time. Just keep grinding it out!

Go to skillshare(dot)com and look for an instructor there named Brent Eviston. Take his drawing course and his creativity course It does cost like 19.00 for a one month subscription, but if you put in the practice; it takes about two or so weeks for the drawing course. Its free to sign up, and then you have access to some free classes, and you can look at the course intros for just about anything, If you don't want to keep the subscription, you can cancel it after the month is up; or, like I did, just suspend it so you still get updated on the new courses.

Drawing is a skill, not a talent. Art is a talent. You need to get the skill before you can develop talent. I recommend Brent Evitson's course on skillshare because it will get you good at the technical skill in way less than a year. Then you can apply your own ideas to develop the talent.

Last thread is dead.

So, what do you like to listen while drawing?

I downloaded a few OSTs and ended up settling on Nier Automata's OST.

Comfy songs are really comfy and combat songs are really motivating. The singer's voice is also pretty soothing, even during the boss themes.

It's most of what I've listened to while studying/drawfagging.

>Affordable paint

lmao.

I've got a set of acrylics called Premiere Acrylic Color I picked up from somewhere, I think it was pretty cheap. I've never bought my own oil paints, only borrowed leftovers in my art classes.

Places like Micheal's or ACMoore are total scams, they price everything at double what you could get it on amazon. Then they beg you to sign up for daily coupon spam, 50% off one item*, EXPIRING NOW!

*Unless it already had some other bullshit sale applied to it.

>oil or acrylic

Acrylic dries in about 15 minutes, you need to keep spraying the paint with a mister bottle or something to keep it from drying before you get it on the canvas.

Oil paint takes anywhere from 4 weeks to 6 months to dry. Also, it smells bad.

Do you want to build up multiple transparent layers in a hurry with acrylic, or do you want to blend and blend and blend with oil? Bob only uses oil.

>Primers

Usually this just means having a coat of paint or gesso on the canvas to make the paint go on smoother or stick on a non canvas surface.

Bob's whole technique is using primer with paint thinner in it (that Magic Hwhite stuff) and extremely thick paint. The thickness of the paint makes for stronger impasto textures in the palette knife mountains and paint brush jabbing foliage, while the thinner helps get the thick paint off the brush and allows the blending of the sky, clouds, and water.

If you don't care about hanging your shit on a wall then getting canvas pad paper is much cheaper than regular canvases.

Yeah, I know. But if I'm not paying out of the ass before discounts(TM), then to me, that counts as"affordable".

>Peter Han exercises

I'll keep that in mind. I want to draw too, so I'll check that out.

>The oil vs acrylic differences.

Noted, thanks for the head's up on the semantics of each paint type..

>Canvas pad paper.

That sounds exactly what I should aim for.

Thank you both, for everything

Could someone help me on how to handle PayPal without failing?

I plan to work with NSFW illustrations, and I do it all under one alias. I do not know how to do it. Is PayPal the only option?

I have read in many forums that it is very easy for PayPal to lock your account, not to mention the fact that PayPal requires a bank account or a credit card in order to handle your money. I have neither.

I don't know how some NSFW artists do it. Apparently they can work without any problem and earn income through their commissions, even when patreon and paypal are hunting and punishing those who work with things like that.

I honestly don't know. I think it's just one of those inherent risks you take. Like, nothing will happen to you unless you get reported-which given the nature of the eternal cumbrain could very easily happen. You could try some alternative like Zelle or Venmo as well. Not sure what their rules are but they've become more popular lately.

It's usually best to invoice the client so you can control the transaction better. Don't say it's NSFW, porn, furry … whatever on the form. Mark it as digital goods or service and keep the description to a basic "illustration" or "art commission." At the very least, don't let the other guy label it "Misty from Pokemon takes Were Garurumon's knot," that's what gets you auto-checked by PayPal.

Only somewhat art-related, but…

I remember like roughly 2-3 years ago I ended up stumbling across this forum/site that was only accessible after registration, and basically inside it had a bunch of links to download various art resources, programs, 3d models, etc for free. I remember the site theme being rather dark/mostly black, but otherwise, I cannot remember what the name was or find it via google since most of my searches just give me dead ends.

Does anyone have any idea what site I'm talking about?

So when I'm doing cel-shading, is there any general rule as to when I should be decreasing the Value more than I'm increasing the Saturation, and increasing the Saturation more than I'm decreasing the Value? Both of them look right to me, so I'm not sure if there's a situation where I should do one or the other.

And another question, I'm trying to shade something that has multiple colors that aren't separated by lines, is there any way I shade them all with different colors on the same layer without having to release my pen, or am I going to have to bite the bullet and separate them on different layers (pic related - the white/red ball) or shade them all using a Multiply layer?

Both examples were done in CSP for context.

I really don't know if there's an actual "rule" necessarily; There probably is one but in lieu of being aware of it myself I guess I can just infer that it's kind of something you'll probably have to experiment with. "If it looks right, it is right" sort of deal.
