Very good; erotic in a classy way. Could stand to integrate a bit more anatomy into the contours below her shoulders (or if not just omit the area below the breasts entirely. Look at it in a "thumbnail"-size view and see if you think any different about it; to me it seems just a little off. You have the lat there and then you go into a sort of straight line that could perhaps be due for a slight alteration.

Thank you. Composition is one of many skills I lack and need to work on. :) I usually stick to the reference till the end of the paper which makes anatomy look incomplete or just plain wrong. Yes, after posting and you pointing things out, the left arm and how it is connected look off to me. I'll carry on keeping these lessons learned in mind :)

Is it possible to get good in 1 year if I'm starting from near zero? I'd be willing to put in around 5 hours of practice a day. How long did it take you guys? What resources are essential?

Asking because I'd like to get into art school and next year is my only real opportunity.

Been going through drawing with the right side of the brain but the exercises seem pointless.

Also, recourse hub redirects me to the homepage wat do?

Speaking of all that. I got a Gumroad from an artist I really like a while back, Wakfu's art director (xa-xa-xa.deviantart.com) and the fact is it's just totally useless for the most part. It's nice to watch someone draw and you might pick up something here or there, but it really seems like a lot of the artists you'd want to be taught from can't teach worth a damn and a lot of the artists who can techncally teach and communicate well you wouldn't want to be taught by anyway. A background in traditional sight-size or comparative measurement, color theory and so on is probably as good as it gets as far as that goes because it's objective and mechanical. The rest is just drawing on your own and relying on the natural development and progression of your own creativity and intuition-two things which the truly stand-out artists seem to have in spades because they spent countless hours naively drawing people, places and miscellanea for fun both in their youth without a shit given about perspective, anatomy and so on.

I got good in less than one year (roughly nine months) by doing 4+ hours of practice each day. I would often vary it. Ex: an hour of sketching without reference, an hour of drawing from reference, an hour going through an art textbook and doing its exercises, and then an hour of going through video tutorials, etc.

Where study materials are concerned: I used NDRSB, Vitruvian Studios, Loomis' books (especially Fun with a Pencil), ALLA PRIMA by Richard Schmid, and some others odds & ends.

A good thing to do when you're doing longform, highly detailed portraits from reference is to work in cycles of correction. Do a few hours, take a picture, and use editing software to overlay it on the reference. This will help you identify mistakes. Correcting mistakes is one of the best methods for learning anything quickly, and it helps you get better results early on. This is NOT the same as tracing. You're looking at a review of your mistakes on a screen–you still have to correct freehand. Don't bother tracing unless you're doing it as a speed exercise for muscle memory or something like that.

Picture related: A portrait I drew about eight months in, having started from zero. I've been going for about a year and a half now, so I can do a little better than this, but it's perfectly possible to achieve results similar to pic related in a very short amount of time. Just keep grinding it out!

Go to skillshare(dot)com and look for an instructor there named Brent Eviston. Take his drawing course and his creativity course It does cost like 19.00 for a one month subscription, but if you put in the practice; it takes about two or so weeks for the drawing course. Its free to sign up, and then you have access to some free classes, and you can look at the course intros for just about anything, If you don't want to keep the subscription, you can cancel it after the month is up; or, like I did, just suspend it so you still get updated on the new courses.

Drawing is a skill, not a talent. Art is a talent. You need to get the skill before you can develop talent. I recommend Brent Evitson's course on skillshare because it will get you good at the technical skill in way less than a year. Then you can apply your own ideas to develop the talent.

This is probably your best piece yet from a color and composition standpoint. I really like the shell and the background, simple as it is. From a drawing standpoint overall it's really nice with just a few hiccups. I think the mace looks like it's kind of "drooping" from where it appears it'd be going normally (hint for next time: follow the angle created by the row of knuckles). I actually agree that the mace should be down there because it wouldn't work if it was overlapping the character that much-and it even looks somewhat intentional anyway-but you'd maybe have to twist his hand and forearm a bit to truly make it look right, I feel. The foot on our left appears a little small (roughly on line width, I'd say) as well. Keep up the good work!

Last thread is dead.

So, what do you like to listen while drawing?

I downloaded a few OSTs and ended up settling on Nier Automata's OST.

Comfy songs are really comfy and combat songs are really motivating. The singer's voice is also pretty soothing, even during the boss themes.

It's most of what I've listened to while studying/drawfagging.

We should be drawing together regularly. I've already tried it successfully with another anon in that thread, but a higher turnout rate would be nice.

That's what this thread is for. It serves to be make organization easier and visible for everyone interested, instead of being buried and unnoticed in an unrelated thread.

Discuss what's a good time for a regular scheduled session, when you plan on hosting or joining a session or simply post a roomcode.

It would be shame if we'd be unable to get a few people together on a board about drawing when other boards manage to do it successfully.

You can get the software needed to draw together here: https://drawpile.net/download/

>Affordable paint

lmao.

I've got a set of acrylics called Premiere Acrylic Color I picked up from somewhere, I think it was pretty cheap. I've never bought my own oil paints, only borrowed leftovers in my art classes.

Places like Micheal's or ACMoore are total scams, they price everything at double what you could get it on amazon. Then they beg you to sign up for daily coupon spam, 50% off one item*, EXPIRING NOW!

*Unless it already had some other bullshit sale applied to it.

>oil or acrylic

Acrylic dries in about 15 minutes, you need to keep spraying the paint with a mister bottle or something to keep it from drying before you get it on the canvas.

Oil paint takes anywhere from 4 weeks to 6 months to dry. Also, it smells bad.

Do you want to build up multiple transparent layers in a hurry with acrylic, or do you want to blend and blend and blend with oil? Bob only uses oil.

>Primers

Usually this just means having a coat of paint or gesso on the canvas to make the paint go on smoother or stick on a non canvas surface.

Bob's whole technique is using primer with paint thinner in it (that Magic Hwhite stuff) and extremely thick paint. The thickness of the paint makes for stronger impasto textures in the palette knife mountains and paint brush jabbing foliage, while the thinner helps get the thick paint off the brush and allows the blending of the sky, clouds, and water.

If you don't care about hanging your shit on a wall then getting canvas pad paper is much cheaper than regular canvases.

Could someone help me on how to handle PayPal without failing?

I plan to work with NSFW illustrations, and I do it all under one alias. I do not know how to do it. Is PayPal the only option?

I have read in many forums that it is very easy for PayPal to lock your account, not to mention the fact that PayPal requires a bank account or a credit card in order to handle your money. I have neither.

I don't know how some NSFW artists do it. Apparently they can work without any problem and earn income through their commissions, even when patreon and paypal are hunting and punishing those who work with things like that.

I honestly don't know. I think it's just one of those inherent risks you take. Like, nothing will happen to you unless you get reported-which given the nature of the eternal cumbrain could very easily happen. You could try some alternative like Zelle or Venmo as well. Not sure what their rules are but they've become more popular lately.

It's usually best to invoice the client so you can control the transaction better. Don't say it's NSFW, porn, furry … whatever on the form. Mark it as digital goods or service and keep the description to a basic "illustration" or "art commission." At the very least, don't let the other guy label it "Misty from Pokemon takes Were Garurumon's knot," that's what gets you auto-checked by PayPal.

Only somewhat art-related, but…

I remember like roughly 2-3 years ago I ended up stumbling across this forum/site that was only accessible after registration, and basically inside it had a bunch of links to download various art resources, programs, 3d models, etc for free. I remember the site theme being rather dark/mostly black, but otherwise, I cannot remember what the name was or find it via google since most of my searches just give me dead ends.

Does anyone have any idea what site I'm talking about?

So when I'm doing cel-shading, is there any general rule as to when I should be decreasing the Value more than I'm increasing the Saturation, and increasing the Saturation more than I'm decreasing the Value? Both of them look right to me, so I'm not sure if there's a situation where I should do one or the other.

And another question, I'm trying to shade something that has multiple colors that aren't separated by lines, is there any way I shade them all with different colors on the same layer without having to release my pen, or am I going to have to bite the bullet and separate them on different layers (pic related - the white/red ball) or shade them all using a Multiply layer?

Both examples were done in CSP for context.

I really don't know if there's an actual "rule" necessarily; There probably is one but in lieu of being aware of it myself I guess I can just infer that it's kind of something you'll probably have to experiment with. "If it looks right, it is right" sort of deal.

I can't believe this program is free; it's improved so much since its first release as far as stability's concerned, too. Some dude's even working on an animation plugin for it. Does anyone know any legit non-Toon Boom or Flash animation software in the interim? So far I've tried Synfig Studio and Pencil2D and they were both unimaginably shitty.

You're going to play around with it for 7 minutes but never actually use it for anything practical. Meanwhile basic features like text tool that almost everyone needs is still completely broken.

Krita is open source. Because of that, developers are not paid to make it better. Instead, developers are generally all users of the software and submit improvements all the time. The more users that get involved, the more improvements get made. Developers usually do it because they want to. and if they get the software into professional art studios that make more money from supporting the software. Its a way better way to develop software than working 8 hours a day at a software company just to produce mediocre products for the retail market.

Yes we know. It's a good software that has improved by leaps and bounds since this thread was created five years ago, but complaining about stuff is fun

This is the common argument used by FOSS people to justify laziness, bad design decisions and bad software in general. "It's made for free so you can't expect anything", "it's open source so fix it yourself".

Firstly, Krita has ran fundraisers to get money for certain developers to work on it full-time for some periods, continually takes in donations, and often gets contributions from GSoC where people get monetary awards for their work. It's not done for free when someone is receiving money for it.

Secondly, Krita, as described by the official website, is advertised as a professional tool for people in various kinds of artistic fields. When you're telling professional artists to use your shit, there's an expectation of some level of professionality, and the expectation that you don't have to switch your profession to a computer programmer and then familiarize yourself with 7 gigabytes of spaghetti code that has been strung together by ragtag groups of random people and start developing it yourself just to get it to work.

The least you could expect is for them to fix the fucking text tool that is an absolutely core tool in any serious graphics program, but it's as if nobody gives a shit or even plans to ever fix it. How the fuck can you justify leaving it as such a dysfunctional piece of shit for over 2 years now after making promises to make it great? THE LAYER DOESN'T EVEN GO INTO THE CORRECT LOCATION WHEN YOU CREATE IT, that's not even a difficult fucking problem to fix, just go to where the layer is created and make it go to the correct place instead of being pasted into the top of the layer list, that functionality already exists since every other layer goes into the correct place, why hasn't it been fixed for over 2 years? This is absolutely not something you'd expect from a "professional" tool and makes the developers look downright incompetent. I don't even expect the tool to be super fancy like Gimp's, I just want the text to not look like a near-unreadable garbled mess, a new layer to be created when I create a new text box, not having to manually move the layer into where I was every time I type text, an actual text Post too long. That just looks like conventional brushes on a textured background though. Also I have no idea how any of that shit works. I have an iPad and an Apple Pencil but I very seldom use it for drawing with.

Looks pretty good to me, I honestly can't see too many OBVIOUS flaws. Sure, it's maybe "anime convention programmin pamphlet"-tier in some ways but it's actually quite nice. While the coloring is flat in some places you did a pretty good job blending the colors in certain areas. too

Soften the wrinkles in the clothing. Remember they are wearing fabric not aluminum foil ;)

Try putting them in an environment. Don't have to be detailed or in focus. Otherwise they look great. Cannot wait to see more.

Otherwise

I feel like it looks good if I squint, but as soon as I fully open my eyes it looks really bad. I tried to follow a coloring tutorial but somehow I felt uncomfortable while doing it and just wanted to end the suffering.

>>16861

Thanks, you're nice. One of my biggest weaknesses is clothing/shading. Thats why it looks like aluminum foil lol. I just got to keep practicing. I didn't draw an environment because tbh I just wanted to end it.

I liked this one a bit more. I feel less suicidal now

I'd sit down with him for an hour or two on learning to break things down into shapes, applying gesture and line of action to them, shape language and proportions and maybe even perspective. Motor control is always a gigantic must, which is why i'm gonna spend a significant amount of time forcing him to draw straight and curved lines alike.

I spent a lot of time on motor control and it is useful but I've also been drawing for years and don't have a clue about color and a lot of other subjects. Gotta try and be versatile.

I've endlessly pored over time-travel fantasies to teach my 5/15 year old self everything I know to a fault, from drawabox-tier simplistic babby lessons to color theory, proper shading, anatomy, gesture, and even fucking mindset. It's became a sickening obsession and I just want to let go already. There's no way I can correct what happened in the past.

Me too, I think larping like that is part of the subconscious aspirations of fatherhood when you're not among the top 5% of males and are thus all but completely denied the opportunity to win a gf for yourself who isn't a mentally deranged anti-natalist SJW hambeast.

Men should be ashamed of their goofy bodies and wear sissy shit

and women should be proud of their awesome bodies and wear cool men's clothes.

All dick is shit, especially yours. Women look too awesome to be taking shit from you.

They don't owe you pussy, head, or anything.
