What is your personality like? Just be honest, say both the shitty side and great side of your personality.

My personality is generally caring for others, but I care for others too much and I always end up hurting them somehow. I am also incredibly annoying on purpose, but I try to be annoying in a way that will lighten people up, but fail and end up looking like an asshole.

Credit to Sweirde for the art and character. I do not claim the rights to it.

I'd like to think I'm very friendly and try my best to help others with whatever questions they have. I rarely hold grudges or really hate anyone, I tend to hate actions more than the people committing those actions.

However I can be very depressing sometimes and I fear I drag the mood down for everyone around me too, so I try to keep quiet which makes me further depressed. I used to be exceedingly happy when I was in school and still believed I could accomplish anything and become an art/animation/gamedev rockstar, but now it's very difficult to remain positive for some reason. I still believe I could git gud if I managed to keep practicing though.

>Huion Giano

I keep finding post of people recommending getting a Wacom instead of Huion. I currently have a Wacom Pen and Touch (off the top of my head, I think the model is CTH-046). You've just described the problem that pretty much put me off of drawing, the aspect ration of my tablet is small compared to my monitor.

I really want to get a bigger tablet but the Wacom ones are expensive. I am considering buying the Huion but everyone and their dog keeps saying that the drivers are shit or the it doesn't work with a particular program. I want to ask you anon, how fucked are the drivers, and can I use the Giano with Krita and GIMP?

While I'm at it, how long does the nib last (do you use some plastic to cover the tablet)? Can I use some garden strimmer as a replacement (currently using it on my wacom)?

Thanks

 No.4622

>>4620

You shouldn't use GIMP. The Giano works fine in Krita but Krita is itself an unstable program, too.

As far as the nib goes, I haven't had to replace mine yet and it doesn't look like I'm going to need to any time soon, the surface on the Giano is similar to the Intuos 3 which was kind of a rubbery/plasticky surface that doesn't really wear on the nibs like the Wacom Gen 4 and up tablets did.

That said, while I am a fan of the Giano, I would nonetheless recommend the Wacom if you can conceivably afford it just because the Wacom stylus is much better as far as how it feels and its sensitivity levels. Also one thing I'd recently discovered is that the Intuos' drawing "resolution" is better. What I mean by that is how despite the fact the Giano has a slightly bigger active area the minimum amount of movement the Giano recognizes vs the Intuos Large is noticeable and you have to actually move the stylus vertically or horizontally to leave a mark.

The Giano is still easily the second best conventional tablet available but the Intuos Large is worth the extra money (unfortunately).

First off, let me preface this by saying how surprised I'm to find such a beautiful place within this myriad of fuckfest. As you probably have guessed from the title, I feel like I'm stuck and not improving; I have this idea of game character that I'd like to draw, but I can't get myself to put on paper. I've been drawing on and off my entire life (I'm not that old tho), and I've started to take drawing seriously for a while now in order for me to draw this character, but in vain. I spend a tremendous amount of time copying others art and trying to learn from it with no proper results at all. So, I decided to grab some books to learn from like "Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain" and some other book by Mark Crilley(the youtuber), and here I'm with my dick in my hands, as I've failed to achieve any proper advancements.

tl;dr

Been drawing on and off, really good at copying, but can't draw from my imagination, and have spent a good amount of time trying trying to learn from other resources without any good results.

Non-native English speaker. Sorry for any grammar mistakes!

You have to practice drawing from imagination in order to get better at it. This is where "construction" comes in and the book "Fun With a Pencil" by Andrew Loomis is a good place to begin practicing if you can already draw from observation fairly well.

Be careful about listening to Mark Crilley. The guy has no idea what the fuck he's doing when it comes to his "anime" drawings, but 12 year olds flock to him anyway because he's popular.

Could you please elaborate? I did actually pick up his book because of his popularity, but for someone who's trying to learn how to draw, how would you expect me to find out whether he provides good advice or not?

After that you should be able to draw virtually anything, and that's when actual studying begins. Say you want to draw people, you go and study anatomy, what goes where and how does it move and all. After you learn enough you'll be able to just imagine how people work and be able to draw it based on that, and not using another picture for reference.

Doing drawabox

Got a bunch of pens like he reccomends, but they sometimes just stop working where the line comes out really faint whenever I draw over the same line a few times. Then I bought a couple that are the exact ones he reccomends.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000KJMIQU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Same problem though. It's all fine then the line comes out really faint. Then I scribble for a few seconds and then it's fine. I've got a bunch of pens and they all do this.

Is this just a flaw inherent to this type of pen or did I somehow manage to buy a bunch of pens where every single one is a dud?

Is your drawing surface tilted very upwards or something? Enough that when you hold your pen the tip is above the end? Because it might be gravity working on the ink.

Or maybe it's possible you got a bad batch, but that's a pretty good brand.

>How do I draw decent eyes that are anime style?

Step 1.) Draw real eyes.

Step 2.) Draw real eyes and analyze them really gud.

Step 3.) Draw real eyes and extract their essence

Step 4.) Now that you know how an eye works, how it is structured, what makes it look "eye ish", you can take that essence and push it around, stylizing, caricaturing it to your hearts content.

Repeat this process with anything you want to draw in a stylized manner.

For example (and I'm not anywhere near close a competent artist, butI know it's true) these here.

The cornea pokes out, it's convex, and the iris is kind of concave, so if you draw it that way you get instant "compentence points" even if the result is shitty.

Also, the upper lid has usually its higher point closer to the nose (aka the inner side) and the lowest point of the lower lid is usally on the outside side.

The eyeball is also round, that's why you get those suggested creases that are higher up than the suggested eyelid volume lines.

Since eyelids are comparable to lips on your mouth.

If you know the essences (like these are a selection of) of a thing, then you can take that and morph them.

You could draw an almost square eye, but if you make the highest point of the upper lid a bit closer to the nose, and the lower point of the lower lid a bit closer to the side, and add a line to hint at lid thickness, and a crease higher up (below the brow, in the eyesocket) to hint at a fold of skin.

Then even that square eye would look more *real* than just a rigid square.

If you gave it a cornea with highlights that juts out a bit further than the iris, too.

Etc.

All that is left is the design of those elements.

Would you shade the iris and cornea like a lustrous gem?

Something completely unrealistic with intricate patterns?

The styling is up to you, but if you model them after a real eye, even if the end result is quite different to it, you will get a more or less believable eye.

It's approximately flat, so it will look a bit like a concave section on the sphere. Of course that only really matters for very oblique viewing angles.

I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

There isn't much time left and it'd be a shame if it doesn't get funded either way. Honestly I'd like nothing more than for them to continue work on animation workflow, what they've done so far is good but it could stand to be a lot better. What are your thoughts on the most recent Krita kickstarter? Have you contributed or do you plan to?

I really can't explain it myself. It's supposedly more stable on linux but it's a real resource hog. I have a desktop replacement laptop with 12gb of ram and a dedicated graphics card and it still gives me trouble here and there.

How do you do that thing with coloring black and white pics where the intensity changes with how dark the value is and doesn't paint over blank spaces?

That's one of those things you know exists and know it's useful, but don't notice you don't know how to do until you try it.

>>4534

Scaling it back to twice my resolution instead of 2.5 times seems to make it not crash anymore, though it's not much of a solution.

My GPU and CPU are pretty good, though I only have 8GB of RAM. I'm going to get a cheap 8GB stick I found to use as dedicated RAM though, do you suppose that'd help it?

I honestly don't know. I'm sure it couldn't hurt but it's hard to say where the real choke-point of Krita might stem from. It's a program with so much potential but it's such a resource hog that it's a wonder what those resources even are.

I have a mac book and a bamboo tablet. When I take the pen off tablet after drawing, the cursor freezes up and I can't get it to move until I move the pen over the area on the tablet in the area where the app ends and the desktop begins.

In GIMP you can do it by painting in a layer over the B&W image and setting the blend mode of your paint layer to "multiply".

I assume there's something similar in Krita.

My girlfriend and I drew this masterpiece. Ask a pair of modern age Leo-da-vinci-tier doodlers anything.

New thread because old thread reached bump limit.

old thread: http://8ch.net/loomis/res/1588.html

the shadows are really hard. it's amazing how the original artist was able to draw the shadows and other body parts with great detail.

I'm not sure what to do. should I continue with this or should I start reading someother book. I would like learn how to draw properly but I'm not sure if doing this will make me better at drawing. I think I am not learning how to draw the anatomy/body parts of the human body by doing this. I'm not sure what I am even or meant to be doing anymore.

please help.

I just can't seem to get better, yet my technical drawings aren't total dog shit, yet my sketching it abolute shit.

It's fucking frustrating that I can draw isometric, 1st and 3rd angle projection of components yet can't draw a fucking hand.
