I experimenting a lot with grayscale rendering, but it always came out dulling my whole image. but I learned by colorize the grayscale layer I can make the skin more fleshy(reddish) and change to color tune of the figure.
You learn new thing I guess.

Here's finished work. I dont know if I want to use this "colorize grayscale rendering" again, it take to much effort to get color to pop up.

I'm on the fence about the grayscale method. It truly would make altering colors a lot easier…but at what cost?

Breast on (our) right appears just a bit too smol; see how her ribcage is facing slightly upwards but the contour of that tiddy is razor-straight across from the other?

Don't take it too seriously as I'm probably a little off as well, but it's just something to think about in general. Notice how you have the (our) left shoulder and arm a little higher than the ones on our right? It's the same basic idea, that (our) left tiddy should be a little relatively higher than its opposite as well.

The face looks really ugly, look for artists that make something akin to what you want to make and study the proportions they use.
Your linework is extremely choppy, your lines should be a single stroke, see pic.
The hair being that low makes the head look short or incomplete. You need to think of the structure of the head before placing the hair on top of it, if I were doing your style I think the head structure would look somewhat like pic 2.

Gonna SERIOUSLY disagree with you here, anon. That's heavily a stylistic choice.
There are artists who specificly do that as a style, look at any of Jhonen Vasquez's work. Those smoothed lines don't even look good, they're flat and completely lifeless. Anon's art, while flawed, evokes the style of sketching with an actual pen.

If I keep working on it I dont know quite what more to add to the planet, though I feel as if something is missing.
I have added some more layering to the clouds and a bit more texture to the ground.
Perhaps not much more is needed after I add some more light from the pyramid and color the girl properly since that is a bigger focus?

I think she blends in too much with the planet and neither one really seems to have that big of an advantage over the other. If I had to chose, I would go with the teal. Can you rearrange the clouds or resize the planet? The planet also looks weird to me, as if the horizon doesn't look as far away as it should compared to the closer part on the bottom. Giving her a small glow or thickening her outline could be another option to try.

I didn't know what the heck you meant at first but I think I know what you're talking about now and why. It's not the shape of the planet itself but, for some reason the pyramid/orb thing she appears to be "presenting" with her hand on our left appears to be overlapped by the planet whereas the girl is overlapping the planet. Because of the multiple line tangents it's hard to tell if she's like "holding" the pyramid/orb thing or if it's supposed to be way behind her.
I think if he dragged the character off to the right slightly and dragged her down a little bit as well it would remove that confusion and take care of some of those tangents-while still getting the point (the point being: space qt) across without getting mixed visual messages.

I'd probably have to moderate it pretty heavily (unlike the rest of the site) for it to work in a place where it'd stick out like a sore thumb like that, so I am open to any alternatives as well.

So I looked into copic alternatives, since I don't see a reason to drop the money on something I don't know that well. Right now I use Spectrum Noir and MemOffice alcohol markers. Of the reviews I've seen they rate really well against copics and are about a third of the price.

Introducing Blaire. She's, Max's granddaughter in the future, or something. Technically she's for a sequel idea I've got planned for EG|WT, but I'm handling doodling her a bit differently than the stereotypical example of "planning for the sequel before you're even done with the first one."
I just really like designing characters, re-kindled my love of cowboy imagery as of late, and wanted a venue for dabbling in designs and ideas that are wholly unrelated to the comic, and liable to change dramatically by the time I get to them. Messing around with stuff like that I why I love to draw, and invigorates me, so having an environment where I don't have to consider any of the details and can just slam concepts together to see what looks cool, has been great for me.

Because of 8kun's performance issues I am strongly considering furthering the development of the board on 8chan.moe; I just need to port the css over somehow and then I can manually curate the GOOD threads and then it'll be like nothing ever happened. Because there's so few of us here now I do wonder if doing something like that would do more harm than good, though.

Yeah, I was initially reluctant to push this stuff further in anything, since I was mostly just seeing if I could do lighting at all like this. But I've wound up liking how I handle it, and in turn thinking this stuff would be good for special pages or panels to really sell shit. Like, there's already at least 3 times I can think of where the page would've benefited from using some actual lighting, instead of the hard shadows, so I'll definitely use this stuff again when the time comes up.
>this makes the little churro into the big churro
It took me a while to really get why the first two there got such a big reaction (for an OC drawing of mine), until I looked at her for a bit. Upon reflection it's pretty obvious, she's just qt.

Okay, just keep in mind the move is tenuous. It will take a lot of work to get that board up to par with what we've built here over the years even with the low relative post count. I will probably make a thread specific to this issue. An archive where I screengrab posts and/or save images nominated to be worth preserving may be in order (including many of the general OP threads that anon had spent a lot of time creating for example). I think, even if we don't migrate there in mass, it would be a good idea to for me to maintain it as a backup. I think starting monday I will put some more work into making that happen.

I will say, there is a slight issue with the form and volume of your shield. It's hard to put into words what the issue is but perhaps I can show you my manner of thinking about it with this picture. In the current arrangement the various motifs of the shield cause a sort of dissonant effect that slightly throws off the illusion of solidity.

This is probably your best piece yet from a color and composition standpoint. I really like the shell and the background, simple as it is. From a drawing standpoint overall it's really nice with just a few hiccups. I think the mace looks like it's kind of "drooping" from where it appears it'd be going normally (hint for next time: follow the angle created by the row of knuckles). I actually agree that the mace should be down there because it wouldn't work if it was overlapping the character that much-and it even looks somewhat intentional anyway-but you'd maybe have to twist his hand and forearm a bit to truly make it look right, I feel. The foot on our left appears a little small (roughly on line width, I'd say) as well. Keep up the good work!

I think your ribs are a bit too harsh there-the external oblique and serratus muscles work to obscure the ribs at least a little (while creating a sort of "rib like" impression on the surface of the skin, themselves. Rather it looks like the ribs themselves are above it all.
With regards to her raised shoulder keep in mind the anterior deltoid and pectoralis come together and kind of overlap any arm muscles beneath them, so while you do see the biceps and etc. kind of wedge in there as the arm is raised you'll also notice that the pectoralis flap kind of creates a nice curve up in the direction of the "deltoid tuberosity" because, like the deltoid, it overlaps the biceps and brachialis muscles.
>>16925
Unfortunately I think in some ways you've taken a bit of a step back here. Don't get discouraged though. The character and the symbol you've created stand out a bit more and I think that's a good thing. The planet looks cool too and while I did like the colors you used with the last one this way it's not really fighting for the viewer's attention with the main subject matter. I think her hair has lost some of the sense of volume/form that you had on the first picture and her face looks a little aged up in comparison too (I think it's the dimple in her smile, the more rounded jawline, the lower contrast of her hair color as well as the lines). You did a good job implying distance with the contrail of light that comes from behind her though it might behoove you to consider another way to present the same idea-at the moment it looks like there's a big laser coming out of the back of her head without much tying it to her other than its placement. The folds on the dress are very well done but I can see the feet/shoes look like they need a little work.
This might go in contrast with some of the other advice you received in the last drawing but it wouldn't be bad to have the character quite a bit bigger as well. The only reason it may have been a problem in your first attempt was because several line-tangents were being created between the girl, planet and the logo. This time as long as you give her a little bit of distance there shouldn't be too much confusion.
I would suggest rather than continuing to hammer away a completed drawing try and experiment with sketches and thumbnails first and then give it another shot. I can tell you've worked pretty hard on this already so if you aren't really up to another attempt I don't blame you but just keep doing your best.

Foreshortening is much improved, good job with that. It can be tricky to make it look impactful, but you pulled it off quite well. The colors harmonize better too, it's fine to keep it simple and prioritize the quality of the piece over following your vision. For practice you obviously want to push the boundaries, but for something you intend to show people it makes no sense to put your weaknesses on display.
The biggest issue with the previous iteration is probably the foreground being too close in value to the background, the picture reads much better now that they're more distinct.

A pretty good attempt, though the left contour of the pear is a bit too vertical and angular-with a bit more emphasis placed on that smooth, subtle depression near the top than there is in the reference. Note that the pear appears to be overall leaning slightly to the right in the reference but in your image it seems to stand near completely erect. Also, the stem on the reference is quite long but on your it's just a bit longer-not to mention thicker.
Use visual observation techniques such as imagined plumb lines and negative/positive space to increase your accuracy.

Your shading has sort of a strong, mechanical "gradation" from light to dark-perhaps it looks metallic but it still has appeal-I'd say it reminds me of some decent art of the sort used in mobile phone games.

Most of all I am impressed by the photos of https://www.vershinin.biz/ vershinin. This is a man with a gift from God who creates works of art.
