I haven't used colored pencils in a long time. I drew what a late ancient to early medieval Norse rune magician was described like, according to the book called Futhark. In this book, red pants are the main signature to rune mages, or skirts for females. Tunic was white, blue, or red, but I chose a sky blue color. The book describes a hooded cloak or frock, but I drew a robe instead, and the color of this item was blue, dark blue, or black. Why these specific colors? I don't know, different customs back then. Shoes were average leather shoes or taken off during rituals. There were specific knives and carving tools for runes but I drew a sword as the sword would be adopted in later centuries by ceremonial magicians, to carve out protection circles and have a tool that can probe outside of the circle as many spirits/entities don't like iron. Wands were used by the Norse but not in the same way that the sword would be used since the Norse had a different approach to magic, which was more shamanic and animistic. There were also other forms of magicians in Norse society, such as a seeress who would wear white and gloves made from cat hide. What I drew here is a wolf mask with some hide still attached. The pointed hat of the renaissance magician actually derives from Jewish hats, which they had to wear so they can be identified. Jews were somewhat associated with magic since they had ritual practices, while Christianity would later fall under the influence of King James, starting the witch trials. So this black-robed pointed hat caricature began to take form around the witch trials era, forming the standard image of the witch/mage today. I saw a picture for Final Fantasy XV where the Vivi style mage was replaced by a realistic looking human instead, but it looked really good.
