I tried to put people's own work clustered together, my only regret is that I wasn't smart like the op of last thread and make sure I made room for the text in advance. By the time I'd added the text there was like 40 layers and it was hard to move specific images around and I buried some people's stuff as a result.

I just downplay how recognizable my stuff is maybe. Also if you didnt know if you have the move tool selected, hold down CTRL, and move a layer, you automatically move the layer that you are clicking on (instead of trying to manually find it). I imagine you can hide the "draw thread" text layer and move stuff around that way.

Come on now. Also that's not even half as bad as I'd thought it'd be; keep practicing fgt. One day you'll learn to suck your own DICK and BALLS so GODDAMN good you won't even think about asking anyone else to do it ever again.
Where's her damn ENORMOUS tits like in the request reference? I don't wanna suck on some little boy lookin'-ass tits ffs. I want to FEEL those JOOCY forms my dude.
Make her legs LONG enough to where her knees would come up to the top of her chest just below the clavicle (minimum) and her lower legs just shorter than that. Often in a cartoon pinup style it's common to have the legs almost as long as the rest of the entire body including a good portion of the head depending on how big the fucker is. Look at the artwork of some of your favorite artists as reference or check out twitter and scope some shit out for inspiration.
Her arms are long as FUCK in this picture. Remember the relationship between the WRISTS and the GOOCH.

The adult version was a traced drawing that I did, you know, for my lack of artistic talent. I just wanted a perfect body to my beloved waifu.
On the drawing where she is holding a revolver, she is a loli, therefore, she has a delicious loli flat chest. Pic related you can see more(bottom picture was a brief guide about sketching related to sack flours that a dude did for me) In this revolver drawing I only traced her head and the gun to the final line art. I fucking sucks.
Also:
Pic related is how people drawing, right? technically your sketch is your blue prints that tell you where fucks goes everything and after do a few changes, you can began to the linea art? I mean, technically you are tracing on your sketch? what's difference between tracing a real picture? I can't stop seeing all this in this way:
Your own sketch > Tracing your sketch = Final line art
A picture that shows EXACTLY that you want(actions, poses, etc) > Tracing that picture = Final line art

Tracing is seen by some to be a legitimate practice so it's whatever. I don't do it because I think it's boring more than anything and as an animator you aren't able to trace dick without it looking retarded (rotoscoping is SHIT). There's no such thing as the art police. Saying tracing is the same as drawing over your own sketch isn't true for pretty fuckin' obvious reasons but if that's what you want to tell yourself it's not like it's anybody else's business to say "you can't do that".

C'mon. Bakshi's works is pretty awesome. I love it because is autistic accurate.
>I don't do it because I think it's boring more than anything and as an animator you aren't able to trace dick without it looking retarded
The end justifies the means.
As I said, I love the accurate things, therefore, I like the detailed drawings.
Isn't a lot hard find the references of exactly that you want on internet, and technically you can make a "Collage" of pictures to get exactly that you want: you can put the head of your waifu on a body 10/10 as I did(see pic related). Is autistic, but hey, the end justifies the means.
Also:
Walt disney didn't trace when he was making Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs?

I don't disagree, I was just sharing my opinion. I don't care for the most part but I'm just not really interested in it myself. I don't like having to look up images every time even if it leaves my end results somewhat less accurate.
>Walt disney didn't trace when he was making Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs?
Can't trace a dwarf, dude! Disney has always used footage for selective reference sure, maybe even tracing at times (though I doubt there was direct tracing going on in that film, look at the proportions of the characters vs the actors), but if all their lead artists could do was trace they'd have really been in trouble.

> From an animation standpoint I don't think it looks great
I agree, but only on a few parts, because I fucking hate when he trace things that are wrong: for example on that webm that I posted, you can see germans using a fucking American tank and even an American AA gun. I mean, wtf Bakshi.

Requests are discouraged here only because of the context of the board, it's kind of expected that you get requests and participate on other boards if you want. Let me start by saying that it's not really a big deal, but I mean in this case, the requester has demonstrated that he's perfectly capable of delivering on his own requests too so it's perhaps even more absurd than usual. It's like if your roommate demanded you do the dishes, take out the trash and do the laundry for him because he's busy watching tv. Sure, he could do it himself and none of those things are particularly hard for either of you to do, but he's counting on someone being thirsty for (You)s and validation enough to do it on his behalf while he strokes his ding-dong and muses about what he's going to request next.

Well that's what happens when you give in to requestfags. Though my biggest problem with them isn't that they request, it's that they're "greedy spoiled brats" being the only decent way to put it.
Not once have I ever seen a requestfag on par with him, request something once, and then fuck off when it gets delivered. No, they always come back for more.
And when you give in, that just feeds their complusion to ask for more, and derail threads with butthurt when someone doesn't deliver, or, god forbid, refuses to.
Bottom line is that requestfags shouldn't be on /loomis/, because /loomis/ has never been about that, especially the drawthreads. For fuck's sake, it's in the OP of each one, how it's a collage of all the OC posted in the threads.

And with that, chapter 4 is over. Burning has been established, Max's job has been reaffirmed, a longterm goal of Max learning to Burn has been integrated, and the evening rolls in to wind down the action. Both in the comic, and in my own life.
I'm upset that I have to do this, but as of this page, EGWT is now officially on hiatus. There may or may not be updates in the coming weeks, but until I get done with classes, and in turn manage to get a job with a consistent schedule, I have no idea if I'll be able to finish a page, in the time I have in a week or not.
But I promise to keep working, in spite of this. Currently the first page of the interlude is done, with the second one being halfway done, and I've been working on my fundamentals in the meantime.
Thanks for continuing to read this.

the reason it helps is because with line width variation, some parts of it will stand out better and appear more 3d than others. Here's an example of what I mean.

That is rather encouraging since I plan on working in the cartoon or comic industries one day (despite how mediocre they both are at the moment) so thank you anon. As for the noses, I think can see why you wouldn't like them (They are too big, weird looking, and not that cute) and me drawing them is more of a habit and a method of creating facial variety due to the fact that I hate the one or two lines that make up the noses of anime characters. Hopefully, I find a way to draw much more appealing noses without resorting to the anime noses I dislike so much OR the big jew noses.
>(To get to that level though I might add, and this goes for most of the people here, personal style will have to be abandoned temporarily. You know how it is.)
I get what you are saying. About nine months ago, I had taken a free dual enrollment class at the local big art school in my city, and the first things my instructor taught us was that in order to become professional, personal style will have to be put on the wayside. It was a fundamental drawing class, so it helped me improve a little, but what I ultimately learned is that you need to be a bit flexible if you wanna survive as a pro artist.

Yes, he's a Jewish warlock. In this context though, the Star of David is the Seal of Solomon. In medieval Jewish mysticism, this seal gave King Solomon the ability to control spirits and talk to animals.
It's used in Goetic magic to control and tame the spirits you summon.
The wand in the second picture is a wand of Solomon, which he pretty uses to smack around misbehaving demons and monsters. It has its practical uses.

Yeah it's pretty bad, but don't give up hope. You should start with simpler subjects and work your way up so when you do a more complex piece like this you can feel the forms intuitively. Also make sure to use your eyes to look for spatial relatioships between subjects. In your reference look how her head is overlapping a lot of her body. Her eyes are BELOW her shoulder line but in your drawing you have them through/above it for example. Those are the kinds of things you should always be thinking about.

Anatomy for the Artist is pretty good. Solid true-to-life drawings and a lot of information. I learned more anatomy minutiae in a couple days of tracing some of its contents than I had in years of dicking around. It's not perfect however, the real worthy drawings are only depicted at 4 angles (front, rear, and both sides) at most so there's no 3/4 and stuff like that, you'll have to study from other authors to get that kind of information.
There's also "Strength Training Anatomy" which shows muscles and bones in a wide variety of positions.

There are some busts in sketchfab you could check out, both in the practice thread and running a search on sketchfab itself wouldn't be a bad idea. One of the best resources around honestly.

About as good as I can do at my shitter level-in my defense this is the first time I've ever drawn a figure to this extent. I have a handful of atelier cast drawing sessions under my belt that'd sort of taught me what to look for but other than that I'm completely inexperienced with drawing in this manner

So you should bring back things from whatever cast drawings you've done. Hopefully you've been taught about value compression, so at this point when you do not have the value range to meet the impression, you're either going to have to give up on values and just do a line drawing or compress them properly so it doesn't just look like a low contrast drawing. Compress your shadows to one single value and work from there. In a scenario when you're using pencils, you're probably not going to get much more than a shadow shape, almost no halftones will be significant enough in this range to matter more than a few light indications.. This is the problem in your drawing. You've pushed in half-tones that do not match the key of the image. This makes it all muddy and undefined, often looking silvery where the highlights are over-emphasised.
Look at this drawing as an example: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/df/70/c2/df70c2546a9ac1a28fdf1401f9329c74.jpg
The values in the light shape are about the same as yours however their shadow value is super dark to be able to make room for those values. If the shadow shape wasn't that dark, we're basically saying that relatively the half tones in the skin are shadow-dark and they're not. If the shadow value in this drawing were to be lighter he would have to remove some of the values in the light shape in order to make the relative contrast work.
After you've done that, drawing will be much easier, your image will feel very solid and you can probably figure out a bunch on your own.

Any recommendation on brand of charcoal? I'm using General's right now and it has this really unappealing, sticky or gritty feeling and I just can't seem to get the results I'd like to out of it. I'm only using a 2b because I can't really get what I want out of the charcoal I happen to have. Truth be told I could possibly push the values JUST a bit further with this one. Maybe I'll fill in the background more and blend the rest a bit with a tortillon. At this stage I think I'm too attached to the image itself and it's making it hard to progress for fear of 'ruining' what I already have so I'll definitely have to get over that.

Drawing the same guy, in the same costume, 8 months apart. I continue to draw extremely slowly. Barely different… although one difference, I think, is that I vary pencil stroke width a bit more intelligently than what I used to. In the intervening 8 months I also tried drawing negative space a few times in the life drawing sessions and that helped me make fewer proportion/placement errors from then on.

It looks like you're using mechanical pencil or something, I would think about using something else. There's no easy way to say this but it doesn't look like there's been much improvement if any-but that's okay. 8 months is not a lot of time. You have to experiment with different ways of doing things, different ways of thinking about things and using different tools, or you'll lock yourself in place for years. This is something I'm struggling with myself as well.

I suppose I should be more strategic. As you more-or-less say, going for every value discrepancy I can see with a 2b pencil so incapably wielded doesn't seem to look very appealing in the final result. That guy leaves a ton of just literal empty space and it looks great. If it were me I'd have used the empty space as only the brightest of highlights and made him look like the silver surfer.

For charcoal I use Nitram. Everyone I know uses Nitram. It's kinda like the standard if you want high quality vine charcoal that doesn't break and has both sharpness and range of value. I personally like it a lot but they're generally for full value drawings, but I've done tons of studies with them too. I use them generally with Roma paper for full on value drawings and just a canson paper for studies (line drawings as transfer drawings for paintings most of the time). If you want to see what these things preform like, google "academic cast drawing" or something like that, the ones with black backgrounds are almost always done with Nitram.
With charcoal, paper matters a lot. Roma is expensive as hell but preform beautifully. Canson is slippery, cheaper, but if you're just doing line drawings or two value sketches it's perfectly fine.

Edelfelt did some good academic work, his drawings and paintings, at least at ecole de baux art, are very useful examples.
There's a way to make line drawings appear very very natural and that is understanding line quality to a deeper degree than just the "inking" approach.
Think about line drawing being all about contrast. Noticing high and low contrast and representing these relationships through line quality. So think like this, you look at a person lit in front of a dark background, the edges of light meeting the background are at a higher contrast than the shadows (light vs dark compared to dark vs dark). So with this in mind we draw the line of the edge meeting the background to represent the same contrast relationship we see. So in this scenario, the light contour will have a darker line and the shadow contour will be lighter.
On the other hand, if you're drawing a lit figure on a light background, the shadow side contour will be darker. If the background is a middle tone, your edges with half tones will fade into the background, meaning the contour line will fade to nothing.
With these primary relationships established we can start to vary the contrast within these lines, so as the form changes the value often changes along the edge, and you can find a ton of nuance in your drawing by just a single thin line changing slightly in value. You can basically get rid of everything else in the drawing if this is done well. You can also do the same with the shadow line, but you'll have to include what width and sharpness. So this is how you can represent something naturally without any values at all.

I forgot to upload this update, here, too.
EGWT's currently on hiatus, but it's still being worked on each day. If you're interested in it enough to want to know more, you can find my twitter by checking any of the sites it's uploaded on, where I post daily updates of what I'm doing, and the progress I've made.
Currently, as of writing, we're about I'd say, 2.7 pages in to getting the buffer back up to 5, and slowly but surely I'm regaining my sanity and moving towards getting one done a week. I can't make any promises on if I'll attain weekly status, again, in the near future, but I can promise it's continually worked on and the main focus of my life, still.
Also the pixel art isn't mine. That's a commission from The KKM, or Papadripopoulos.
Thanks, see you again soon.

It wasn't enough that you were derailing threads with requests to draw that vampire girl or whatever, when you were banned you didn't make a post like this politely asking what was going on or make any attempt at an apology, instead you flooded a thread with links that claimed to contain actual child porn. Being that this was within hours of you having been banned there can be no doubt as to the origin of the spam.
To be honest, I don't like "loli" at all, but I can easily tell the difference between a drawing I find objectionable and the abuse of a real person.
Long story short, you don't have to go home but you can't stay here. Goodbye.

He could have, I admit I may have been a little harsh with a permanent ban right off the bat so I was at one point willing to hear him out, perhaps rescind his ban and tolerate him as long as he stopped asking people to draw shit for him whenever he was around, but that's not happening now. Considering he relies on tracing and what was supposedly posted earlier that makes the origin of some of his "references" truly disturbing.
There are as many ips out there as there are grains of sand in the desert so I'm sure we haven't seen the last of him one way or another, but if I see an ip that I suspect is him without a long post history he'll be dealt with again.
Considering people like this don't tend to take this sort of thing with good humor I am anticipating retaliatory action on his part. Make sure you use the global report function so that any posts containing dubious material are put in cold storage for the global mods and authorities to investigate later.

Even by ignoring that leg positioning, that pose is not really in perspective. There are other things that peeves me in your works, but i don't understand if you want criticism or if you just want to show your work.

Not him, but I would be interested to see your take on a similar pose. I think his "reads" okay as a fisheye style perspective even if it isn't academically accurate per se. I think the simplicity of the design works in favor of something like this-but perspective and foreshortening are among the most difficult individual subjects in the field; I do think most of us are going to be throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks for some time to come as far as that goes so anyone should be open to suggestions.

Fisheye perspective? than it's completely off,it doesn't read as a fisheye. And as i prefaced, the fact that it's not academically correct has nothing to do with it. I'd say the opposite, since it's just a simple scribble and you're using so few lines, the errors sticks out much more. If you're going with "yeah but it's my style" than we can end it here and i'll shut up, since there's noting anyone can say that is going to be accepted. Perspective it's not a "style" it's perspective.

But with that being said, I figured the backgrounds in my comic would have tipped you off to the fact that I'm deliberately just warping symbol drawing. Think what you will, but the "flatness" is indeed deliberate on my part. I can explain why I've chosen that, too, if you want.

The shading isn't necessarily the problem here but may be tangentially related to it. For example I think the purple girl's hair is fairly well done from a pure "shading" perspective. However the figures themselves lack dimension which is both a line and shading problem. It's like their limbs are just being stuck to the canvas with little relation to one another or the body to which they're attached-like skin colored silhouettes. Don't fret though, dimension and form are things that will come with practice. Just make sure you practice them to begin with.

In fairness we can think about artists like Stephen Silver, Mike Mignola or Chris Battle who probably don't even know what perspective is lol. I wouldn't say their work is "deliberately bad", you could argue that it's not coming from a position of perfect information but perhaps anecdotally it would lose something in the process if it did (not necessarily saying anon's work wouldn't benefit from a more informed approach with perspective for the record). I doubt anon fully understands the rules of perspective to a rigid degree like the absolute madlads Alex Ross or Moebius if he does have even more than a cursory understanding of one, two and/or three point, but I guess what I'm asking though is how he could improve that pose you're talking about and others using perspective because I don't know either.
Like I said, realistic foreshortening of organic forms is "real nigga" shit but something like what anon did looks kind of cool to me too-I just want to know how he could make something like that "right" if that makes sense. That's just my request as a third party to the discussion I suppose, I'm just trying to move it along because at the moment it seems destined to get stuck in a relatively unproductive semantic loop otherwise.

If you want to draw like Stephen Silver or Chris Battle then sure, go ahead, but at that point there's nothing much to talk about. You can brush off almost anything, since it will boil down to just personal preference, but you need to keep in mind that those styles are more suited for animations. When they're "still" you need to make them easily readable. In yours you either lost the line of action, or you didn't follow it correctly. The eyes gets lost and the flow stops. You either redraw it trying to follow it without distractions, or if you really don't want to change the pose, i'd say at least correct the legs. His right leg is the closest to the camera, but it's being pushed way back. His left one, the farthest, not only it's really close in perspective, but faces outside, ends with the foot facing forward again, almost overarching the right one. Leaving it like this, it looks like he tripped.

The short answer is because I suck at construction drawing, and don't have the time to properly use it in the comic. Sketching an individual panel would easily go from 5 minutes at the most, to twenty-thirty minutes per panel, easily. And in turn, I've done what I can to make it interesting, using things that only work when the characters are literally flat, like the shape of Burning, and their hair.
And whether you care to hear it or not, drawing something standalone like that is a rarity for me, and when I do so they're entirely "for fun." So by proxy, I default to what I know already, which is symbol drawing.
That being said
>>10322
>>10326
Honestly I don't know what you (or "you guys" if you're more than one Anon) expect from me. Given I'm aware of my flaws, and taking steps to correct them. Like I said in this post, though, I don't have the time and energy to be grinding out nothing but the basics, even though I know I need it. But despite that, just go look at the practice thread, I'm the one taking photos of the big pads of newsprint. You'll see I am indeed practicing what I've been criticized for, in this thread.
Also I reposted the background of that page's first panel, because I wanted to show to back up what I'm saying now. I do actually understand perspective, but my brain shits itself when it comes to constructing figures, and not inorganic forms, so I've spent my time sketching the comic, learning how to cut corners, while at the same time "lie" effectively enough that the characters don't ever break the perspective of the background.
If that's not enough, I'm not the only one to think about this property. As >>10324 pointed out, aggressive manipulation of size of parts of a figure, can still convey depth and perspective, and ultimately the drawing still remains cohesive, despite the numerous flaws and faults in it.

Maybe you should look into ways of having less fun. Draw things you find morally unacceptable for people you don't like, or in a deliberately ugly style that doesn't display any talent or appeal.
Most artists don't have this problem of too much fun, aside from maybe a few beginners.

With regards to Stephen Silver, posting life drawn figures and portraits as your best examples of him having an authoritative command of perspective isn't really an argument-no one's saying he isn't good at what he does. Kind of a tangent (though a topical one) but he's said on the record that he actively avoided studying anatomy because he found thinking about it too much caused his figures to become more stiff than he likes. Good point about Chris Battle though, he really is better than I give him credit for. I think Butch Hartman and that generation of "Genndy Tartakovsky" artists is more what I was thinking about and rightly or wrongly lumped him in with them

>And I just quoted you saying that they don't even know what perspective is.
That was quite obviously hyperbole-but my point still stands. What Stephen Silver is is a highly skilled character designer and caricature artist and no one would question his abilities there. However, I don't think I've ever seen him draw anything remotely perspective heavy and if you doubt that then look for yourself (https://www.silvertoons.com/portfolio). Many career artists are "specialists" and they are more competent in one area than another-and that's okay.
The pictures you posted by Chris Battle are nice too, but as appealing as they are they're also not "real perspective". They are orthographic; there are no consistent vanishing points to be found in either of those images and they are riddled with proportional inconsistencies besides. While they are certainly skillfully done, conceptually they have more in common with what anon has done than anything by Scott Robertson or someone like that-despite the appearance of form through an orthographic "cheat".
Does it matter that much? Not really, they still look pretty rad-and kids love his stuff. That's one moral of the story, the other is that yes, perspective is a good thing to have a strong command of regardless, don't come away from this discussion thinking you are "wrong". That should never be the goal of these kinds of discussions to begin with.
I'm not trying to excuse anon's work one way or another either, rather I would like to see that pose explored from a more informed perspective on uh…perspective, like I'd asked back here >>10289. A fat lady in a neutral position with her hands behind her back facing away from the viewer is nice and all but it doesn't really help anybody come closer to realizing a dynamic pose of any sort that respects the rules of perspective better. That's why I called this a semantic argument at this point.
Anon said he was doing perspective of some sort, and you said he was wrong-the rest of the time has been us all "well acktually"ing each other to death, in which I've obviously been a major offender myself. I just wanted to see a redline bruh!
>You keep making excuses for your bad art. Stop it.
