Why is the community so anti-newbie?
I just started playing about 8 days ago and everywhere I go I get told either to leave, get kicked/banned, among other things because my account isn't 30 days old.
Every justification I get for it is "It's to prevent trolling" but then I just get a shit reply of "it's to prevent trolling" when all someone has to do is just -wait- 30 days with an army of accounts. Latest dude to try justifying it today is that it'd IP ban associated accounts but it's just as easy to just swap out IP's.
Either way, I also keep hearing that the game is dying too, and I think that's a big contributor. What are newer players supposed to do when they can barely go anywhere?
On the upside, I've spent practically all of my time in sandboxes getting advice and making my av. But still, what is someone supposed to do aside from that? I came on for the roleplaying but it's frustrating to not be allowed to join in.

In case if you're wondering if it's worth taking the time to teleport in there and grab the games, they have an Uno table (which they refer to as U-Know), a Zilch/Greedy table, a Pacman game where your avatar is the one that picks up the pellets that would ordinarily be 2500 L$, a Second Life version of Clue, some puzzle game and some Simon Says clone. There's also Skippy, whatever that is.

Why is LindenCrabs so bad at giving developers tools with which them can develop?
So, I'm wanting to get into content creation for SL, mostly in the form of personal stuff. Right now, I'm looking into making a mesh body, but for some reason, I simply cannot find a bento skeleton to use for it (a free one, that is). I've noticed linden labs is notably poor at this, since even the basic skeleton doesn't seem to be available outside of third parties.
Keep in mind that I use maya, which is, I'd say, pretty industry standard, so while I don't expect then to have files for blender or whatever or obscure 3d software, I'd at least expect them to "cater" to the big bois, you know?
So what's the deal here; what am I missing? Am I expected to either pay for one of those third party plugins like avastar or whatever it is, or is there an actual official release of the skeleton I haven't managed to find yet?

Has anyone used this program? It allows you to see all the textures saved into your sl viewer cache, and export them as usable files where you can modify and upload if you wish. I've been using it for years to make minor edits to things I've bought that were mod. Things like changing colors or in some cases fixing bad textures.
One thing I've always wondered is whether or not it's against TOS to use this program. If I was caught doing it could I be reported for copybotting? The textures are in my cache, on my hard drive, and I'm only editing things I've paid for, so I'm not stealing anything or selling anything.

Did you ever realize how easy it is to copybot furniture with all animations included since AVsitter is OpenSource?
That's maybe just relevant for OpenSim people or people who want to share something with 10 friends, but
1. Open your furniture like it would be a box
2. Copybot all the animations with the same name
3. copy the AVpos notecard.
4. Upload everything
5. Drop the animations and the AVpos notecard inside the furniture
6. Drop the AVsitter scripts inside
And done, completely working furniture, already SetUp.
In SecondLife, it won't be worth it, because the upload costs will be a fortune, but for people in OpenSim, this opens so many possibilities of getting nice things fast.
It surprises me that it is still hard to find good furniture with animations in OpenSim, if AVsitter is OpenSource for 10 months now already.

SL Cache Viewer
Okay so with this new update I realized that SL Cache Viewer no longer works.
I've been looking at how the cache works and it seems that the whole thing got shifted about and no longer reads out of the "texture.entries" file and is now relying on a "texture.cache" file which (Ironically) the SL Cache viewer is incapable of opening.
I do a shitload of modding in Secondlife and am the furthest thing from a codemonkey so I am kind of curious;
Has anybody found a way around this?
Am I using an old program and there has always been something better than cache viewer?
Is there anything out there that can crack a .CACHE file?
Is OpenSIM useful?
So i tried OpenSIM and the first issue is already that there are no good mesh bodies (there is just Sephira).
It would be awesome to host my own region and not having to pay for the ridiculous expensive Linden land.
Am i doing something wrong or is there really no way of using OpenSIM without being bound to a shitty looking avi?

Windlight settings will now be inventory items and will have new varieties available to them, like custom textures for clouds, moons, and so forth, as confirmed by this PDF:

They also talk about "Animesh", which implies animated mesh objects that are separate from the avatar - mesh objects will be able to be animated like avatars are. Which suggests a huge range of possibilities in the future. You can probably make a few of your own assumptions from that. Content creators can for instance, make much more lively NPCs. Otherwise, provided sims keep themselves updated, this could either improve performance or make it worse.
There's otherwise stuff about improving the SL infrastructure, and some new grid-wide game they're working on.

Making a decent male avi

So, i've decided to make a decent male avi for my alt; thing is, i have no idea on how to even start.
Making a female avi is easy, as even without spending one 1L$ you'll find tons of gifts.
But for the dudes, i've found out it's pretty hard.
I've seen A LOT of male avis, but they look all the same (a blocky mass of muscles), so my goal was to make something more feminine.

What should I do now, as a newbie?
Apologies if this thread is dumb, but I couldn't find a lot of starter resources - the stuff I did find was mostly "How to get a 3rd party viewer" and "What are lindens" and "How to start making a decent avatar", which is all appreciated but i've exhausted it now.
I've made an avatar that i'm more or less happy with, for the time being, I've wandered around some of the mainland a bit to look around, and looked at one or two sims that were suggested to me, but i'm sort of stumped on what to do to break into the game more, if that makes sense?
I've started re-texturing a free bus I got, because I don't know anything about renting a home/land and assume it's a bit too expensive to drop money on before i'm sure I want to spend that much on SL, but I still haven't actually exchanged a single word with any other person on SL so far. Are there some groups I should join, or places I should visit to attempt to get a bit of a jumpstart on things, or should I just keep wandering around? I'm not a very confrontational person so I don't want to bust in to random places blind, unless there is no real alternative.

I would like to "resurrect" an old avatar which I used to do some copybot and other shit. How come all the clothing/accessories in SL are so slutty? The entire SL economy revolves around sex, are there any content creators that aim for a different, perhaps more respectable demographic?

I've noticed more and more I just use SL as a singleplayer dressup / home decoration sim, yet every time I go out to try and find a new sim to hang around, or people to meet, the population has just become more and more full of normalfags who struggle to type a few words, and have nondescript human female avatars, by the hundreds. Years ago they weren't uncommon but it seems that anyone that is interesting or intelligent enough to hold a conversation with has left.
TL;DR where did everyone go? My original goal was to find a good sci fi or fantasy RP sim but at this point I'd take so much as a hangout full of people that don't seem dead inside, surely there have to be some places that have at least an okay community base still

After speaking to a guy who literally thought it took hundreds of people to program SL, I was kind of inspired to start a little "SL like" engine thingy project for the fun of it, and though I don't actually plan to do anything with it in the long run (too lazy), this got me thinking:
Lets say someone creates "SL 2.0"; how hard do you think it would be to get the SL users into the improved engine? What do you think it would take, publicity wise and feature wise, to really make an impression with the people?

I have applied Omega System underwear on my Belleza Isis avatar. How the hell do I remove it again without switching meshes? It seems like I can only apply things, not remove them afterwards. Neither the official website nor google does help.

I've thought about making my own kind of pregnancy HUD that, instead of imitating regular mammal procreation has its own set of actions, as well as a much higher customization regarding fertility cycles and such.
The thing is, i'd like to make it compatible with both Mama Allpa's and Deciduan's male HUD.
I've researched but i couldn't find anything on how to make that happen, creators seem very paranoid about their code and have no support for third party addons at all, not even a hint of an API. It obviously uses specific messages on hidden channels like everything else in SL does, but i haven't found a way to scan for such. Can anyone help me out?

Okay, this is probably a super newbie question, but I need help with this. For some reason, most avatars I try to equip are currently broken, with the knees not aligned and the eyes sitting too far back. I know the issue is on my end, but when I asked on the official SL forums I got an answer that didn't help me at all, so I'm turning to you lot who I figure probably know more anyway.
How do I fix this? Furry dog avi is just the one example I already have handy, this is happening to every avatar I have except my Kobold.

AMD Drivers
For anybody else having certain issues with Advanced Lighting and shadows in SL the current amd beta driver 15.3 fixes it.Do a clean install first though, and then either upgrade to 15.3, or if you aren't a fan of using the beta drivers, revert back to 14.4 till the new driver is out of beta :v
14.9 - 14.12 are the ones with bugs
The problems in AdvancedLighting with 14.9, and invisible rigged mesh with 14.12

Should I bother with making a new account or just keep the old one?
Is there any benefit to using a brand new account?

SL bashing
I've been playing SL for about 6 years now. I started playing it long before I ever started using chans, and started playing it because I remember an article about it from way back when it first came out talking about how cool it was. When I started playing SL, I had zero knowledge of what it was, what is was like, or what public perception of it was. I went in completely unspoiled, and fell in love with it.
After playing it for awhile, I began seeing a bit of that public perception. Every single time SL has come up in conversation on 4chan, 8chan, and even other smaller chans, it gets ragged on endlessly. Even Urban Dictionary takes a huge shit on it. The general consensus seems to be that SL is super autistic and gay, and only losers play it.
Did you know about this before you started playing? If not, do you think it would have affected whether you would ever have started? Does it bother you that so many people hate it, and by extension hate you? Because it bothers me :(

So I'm starting work on a skybox, mostly to alleviate some boredom but also with the goal of getting a bit better at building in general. I've been mostly planning to build it in mesh in SketchUp.
I'm wondering though, would my overall land impact be improved by using a hollow megaprim for the box and just making the furnishing in mesh?
