The one thing that Maitreya does right, that all other do wrong, is that they care about the complexity of their body (at least a bit), while all others just ignore it completely. Maitreya is notably faster at loading than Belleza.

But that's basically it. Besides that, it is just average. And since the company that does the scripting for Maitreya also does the scripting for other mesh body creators, there is no real difference in Features as well.

There is a copybot rip-off of Lara in OpenSim that you can get for free on every shopping sim. It is dumbed down to the most basic features and it is just one layer and it has a complexity of not even 10.000. That is not possible with any other body.

Somehow Maitreya got lucky enough to survive the early mesh body days when they were fighting against each other with fake DMCA takedown requests. From the few creators left, they managed to get the best start.

And now it is a self-running business, because with most clothing creators making things for them, most people will buy their body, just because they get more clothes for it.

The creators who are already popular now will also be popular in the future, you really have to fuck up to lose a good market position.

Besides that, i think that your success depends on your current market position and your strategy.

Like if you start right now as a completely new creator and you do things for Maitreya, you will probably just sell nothing because nobody will find you.

But if you start for some small mesh body, even smaller than Belleza and SLink, like Eve, their small community wil buy everything you create. Having something that doesn't require them to spend minutes in the Alpha HUD is already very nice for them.

When you already have some loyal customers, you can start to compete against the big creators and do things for Belleza, SLink and Maitreya, because the customers you already have could give you good reviews and so on.

If you are big and have access to the big market for the popular bodies, it is maybe more lucrative to make something for Maitreya and release it 60% cheaper than making something for the rest, be more expensive, but sell less. If some other body gets popular, you can always change.

btw. isn't it interesting how everything is about L$s, even thought that most creators do it as a hobby, not for a living?

I think that Animesh is going to upset this entire applecart though.

All you really need, once Animesh gets implemented is for one enterprising individual to build a solid morphmesh that has a body adaptive mesh dimensional range and a solid skeletal rig with a good option of float offset range so it can emulate the rig of any major body and suddenly the entire body war is over.

That aside for me its about aesthetics and design options.....I am a huge fan of patronizing good content in SL and designing extremely detailed avatars and quite often content getting locked behind a Lara Only deal just makes life annoying for me because I have to adapt other bits and pieces to make up for the fact I can't use it.

Of the female forms, SLink HG is my current favorite, most of what I can't wear on that, I could wear on Belleza Freya, but Freya's legs are oddly wrong and the calf to ankle dimension is far thicker than it should be in balance to the thigh. And then Lara's legs are just low poly garbage from the thigh to the pelvis and the buttock/saddle on Lara is just boringly average. But then going into the chest, SLink HG's breast design is extremely bolt on/implant looking, Freya has a great splay but oddly conical breasts and Lara's chest is alright but nothing to write home about.

Effectively no matter which way I go I'm being forced to accept some level of imperfection that simply seems ridiculous at this point of the Mesh game. And with Maitreya apparently devlocked at 4.1, and Belleza's updates taking as long as they do.....SLink appears to be the only option for an actively developed system at this time but Siddean gets very locked in the ideas of "whats possible" and seems to forget that ANYTHING is possible as long as you are willing to put some work into it.

The long and short of it is simply Maitreya had a head start. It was the best body for the time which allowed it to gain in both popularity and support.

As time goes on, that support grows, and more people buy into it. Thus feeding back into creators wanting to make for the largest group.

In order for someone to be competitive, for one they'd need to drastically undercut the price as well as offer a superior product and support. Unfortunately, no one really does any of this. The closest you really get is something like Kemono, which isn't really ideal for competing in the same market simply because it doesn't support the same UVs.

Because nobody complained yet. In very rare cases it is because the one who complained is some unimportant nobody and the evidence is not strong enough. And in other cases it is because the one who is doing it is too important (like when a big creator spots some nice product from some small creator on the marketplace and copies it).

If someone like Maitreya complains about someone else making something similar, then you can be sure that it gets taken down.

Lindens earn their money by exchanging L$ and with land. The current state of the market is the best case for the Lindens. There are enough different products to let people think that they have a choice, but there are not enough products to actually drop the price. Lindens aren't interested in some newcomer joining the market and being cheap as fuck.

If the right person reports you, you can get banned for the simple assumption that you are copybotting something. There was already lots of drama because of that.

SLink HG is superior.

Its layering system alone puts it above Maitreya, its mesh range and dimensions are well above Lara's own and its poly complexity is very economic for as good as it looks. The only down side to the mesh is the bolt on tits, if Siddean ever gets their head out of their ass they'll get that petite chest augment able to do a B or low C natural cup, and give it a toggle to have it swap to a male pectoral range too for the femboys and suddenly the whole game is different.

In every big store in OpenSim. FullPerm and with all necessary scripts. If you can't export it, ask the first person you see there and they will provide you with the files or will know someone who can. It's not a secret and it is not a kool kids klub.

Many people already uploaded it to SL, but they just share it in their own circles. If you want to know why it isn't open on the marketplace, then just read the posts in this thread. If someone would offer to send it to you here, he would get reported to LL and banned. My general eyeball level assessment from what I see around the grid is 42% Maitreya, 21% Belleza 11% SLink 25% OTHER

This is a recent poll as of February in 2018 on Meshbodyaddicts which only has a representation of about 4000 total votes which is less than 10% of the average online concurrency at any given time.

My overall assessment if we were to extrapolate would be as follows.

I only have maitreya because flat chest addon, making it work for female and femboy avatars. I was thinking of getting SLink because they made a petite chest addon a few months ago. Nauha is an ok body but very thin and no one made clothes for it's chest sizes ever.

I care about polycount because I care for people running on potatoes. If a lowpoly mesh body that's modifiable or at least Omega compatible with optional flat chest comes out, I might grab it. The irony being that even though Belleza has a stupidly high amount of polygons, it's less laggy than HG. I did a test by wearing each, zooming in near the body, making sure my draw distance was low-ish so there was a little interference (because what's around you is part of rendering no matter what), right clicking, and holding for a few minutes to see what happened.

I still averaged 5 - 10 FPS more wearing Freya than the Hourglass. I don't know why. 1080ti here too, if it matters.

As for Mesh body huds these things are dead easy to make. There is nothing revolutionnary about them. The reason why I'm so dead inclined for Bake On mesh is because I do not want to whore myself out to omega system for their applier because it would require for my body to be non transfer, no mod and for short non open saurces. Also, of course without omega and BoM you could simply edit the body and drop the textures on the body but normies do not want to learn something that would require 30 minutes or less of their lives.

Isn't it stll dead easy to grab the skin textures UUIDs once they are applied on a mesh surface anyway with something like darkstorm, pyrokitty, etc?

Yes, it doesn't protect anybody really, but it's how they do it. If they have it (no modify), nobody can spoof the UUID with an easy attachment and they need a copybot or cache viewer.

You will need a quad version of the original second life system body.

-Separate your body in something like: feet, legs, torso, hands, imitating the system body style.

-Scale the system body to about the same size as your body.

-Now you're ready to SLUV map your body one piece at a time. Grab your body's legs then grab the system body's legs. Scale down the system legs so that it fits inside your own body's legs. Make sure nothing from the system's body poke through your leg or the next step will be fucked up.

-Use a subsurf modifier on the system body leg and put the level at something like 3 or 4 depending on the complexity of your own model. Untoggle modify uv in the modifier sub menu.

-Use a shrinkwrap modifier on the system's legs with your model's legs as a target, use the projection method. That's why you did the previous steps with the subsurf and the insertion overlap.

If you did a good job with scaling and did not modifiy the topoly of the system's legs both legs should now overlap with the system's leg slightly coming out at each end.

-Here is where the real shenanigans happen. Select your body's legs then shift select the system's body legs. CTRL+Shift+T and then select under: face corner data -> UVs.

-SLUVs should now be transfered over to your body's legs, repeat for every other part.
