I've been using Flickr like most residents to post photos and such, if you have one and would like to post it, go ahead.
Pic related, a slightly edited snapshot. ;)
Also, boypussi.

Flickr's a pretty awful website for organization, and I do wish people wouldn't use it so much.
But your reasoning is terrible and good screenshots follow a huge amount of the same philosophies as photography.

>But your reasoning is terrible and good screenshots follow a huge amount of the same philosophies as photography.
They can. But the flickr accounts posted in this thread clearly aren't doing that though. Most of the photos have the subject dead center of the frame. That's one of the very first things you learn to avoid when learning about composition as a novice photographer. It takes less than ten seconds to crop most of these photos and make them look somewhat pasable. If people can't even frame a subject properly using rule of thirds as a guideline I doubt they're thinking about leading lines, color theory and other aspects of composition when taking these screenshots. These are basically the same type of snapshits non-photographers take on their camera phones and post all over facebook, just photos taken for the sake of taking a photo with no thought or effort put into composing them.
There are many blogs, social media sites and image hosting sites to post your screen shots. If you want to post them on a site that caters specifically to photographers, then you should be ready to be treated like an actual photographer and have your work torn to shreds and shit on by actual photographers. If you can't deal with that type of criticism then you should stick to blogs. Either that or open up a photography book and learn to git gud.

So you, or whoever I was responding to, was whining at them for an idiotic reason. The medium of screenshots is fine.
They may not be good at it, but that's a different problem. I didn't realize flickr was only for people that are good at taking photos/screenshots. Seems to me even crappy amateurs can use the site.
Do other photographers really shit on and tear to shreds amateur photographers' work usually? What a crappy community, you guys should work on that.

I wouldn't worry about what they have to say too much. They talk about rules of thirds but dont realize its the brainlet application of a fibonacci spiral.
Easiest way to use the fibonacci spiral is to put subjects head in the center and then put the sun on the outer arm.
But really I never consider this shit when taking photos lmao. It just kinda happens naturally. Don't think about it too hard.
tl;dr dont be autistic about screenshots

>I didn't realize flickr was only for people that are good at taking photos/screenshots
Flickr is for people who are good and bad at taking photographs. It's not for people who are good or bad at taking screenshots. Even instagram would be a better place to post screenshots than flickr since it caters to photographers and non-photographers alike. Flickr caters specifically to photographers. It's the same shit as posting screenshots or photographs on pixiv, a site that caters specifically to Japanese/anime style artists.
>Do other photographers really shit on and tear to shreds amateur photographers' work usually?
Yes, the good photographers do. Because they know ripping a photographer to shreds will do more to help them improve in the long run than coddling them with an asspats hugbox circlejerk and telling them to keep up the great work when their work is clearly subpar.
>>42798
>right hand cropped off
>too much head room
>too much empty space on the left side, all the weight of the photo is on the right side making the photo feel off balance
Maybe you should start considering this shit when taking photos so that they don't suck you rank amateur.

And also videos. And pretty much any media that involves an image file or a video file.
>Yes, the good photographers do shit on amateurs.
This is a good thing? No. Constructive criticism is a good thing. Being unnecessarily aggressive about someone's first photo is discouraging.
All in all, seriously, go fuck yourself with this flawed ass logic. Any site that provides this service will never be solely for photography and the sooner you stop being an elitist about taking a fucking flower, the sooner everyone will be happy.

homie the fact that there's an official flickr feed on second life disproves this entirely. you can post videos. are you this fucking retarded that you don't know the very site you use for your photographic work?

This.
And the fact that they think there is literally no other way to criticize that isn't just ripping apart someone else and their work is the dumbest thing. You can tell someone about all the flaws in their work, every single one, without being a jerk about it. That's some real basic communication skills level sort of stuff.

Now go to the front page of flickr. Look under all activity. Tell me how many times it takes you to hit the load more button until you to a single SL screenshot. You're mentally ill if you think your autistic attempt to emulate actual photography belongs on a photography site.

ya know, where the most sfw, clean, and highest rated shit is put for the sake of a website's reputation? when you can find other sorts of content like porn for one, easier than picking out a really crusty booger from your nose by just simply searching for it? or ya know, sl screenshots?
just take the fucking L man. you lost. people have pointed out FACTUAL information that proves flickr isn't solely intended as a photography website but you're still sucking your own dick so hard that you can't see that. yes, there may be a strong culture of photographers on the site but that's could be the same thing for any site of this format.
