Thread for clarifying some mystery over using VR on SL.
Do people already use it with success?
Can you do it with your cellphone and stream from the PC?
etc.
Dunno where else to post this so I'm making this thread. I think other people might be interested in this type of information.

Cardboard=Cellphone VR. Its naturally jerky. Lumiya has a VR mode if you want to oggle on the cheap.
Should work fine in any cardboard/phone headset
(I usually use the view master one if I'm playing around with phone VR)

That's why I said it's the cheap option. You'll never get desktop quality with it, but if someone's merely curious on how the 3d/VR effect feels to use then it might be something to try.

best setup I've run is ctrlaltstudio viewer with reVive
still can be choppy and loses some depth in translation but overall the most stable experience. it also has built-in controller support
only issue is it fucks with vr desktop displays so you have to take off the headset to read chat/navigate menus
protip: hold down alt and scroll out in the forced first person, then you can alt click as normal for panning and zooming

VR is useless, 3d monitors are superior and don't have that awful jitter.

Yeah lets compare a motion tracking device that fills your vision with a screen to feel inside something, and a screen infront of you that forces you to stare at it from the right angle. Very clever!

Any special way you have it set up? I'm interested in trying this out.

Jitter makes it completely unusable even after the first 2 failures. The unresponsive tracking even with 2 cameras also is a piece of shit. Gyro sensors are in no way new.

Always so easy to tell when someone's talking shit about VR when they've clearly never tried a Rift or Vive. Real hot opinions you have there.

not anything special
just be sure to dig around in the new graphics tab
think there's some feature that cuts jitter but is too slow on some systems

There is this virtualcasviewer fork that was last updated 10 months ago, but I don't know what's up with it either. I don't know if that helps:

Vr is doing so well right now because of those total "opinions"

Thanks! Got it working, and it runs surprisingly well without any tweaking.
Only thing is that I can't really figure out a usable way to set up the UI, and the controls seem really strange.
