Simple to muster system which allows for more RP rather than worrying about rolls. 1d100 with stats. NPC monsters run by staff help break potential peace which is also good. RP Sims need to understand combat, not sex, is the lifeblood of creativity. They have a Chaos cult.

There's a huge disparity problem between vets and newbies. (Go figure with SL rp groups) These vets have some form of bullshit that has them easily doing 2x the damage and healing potential of a starter. Luckily, a majority are considered group mentors and generally try to avoid combat rp with the beginners unless NPCs are involved. Stat investments may be a little steep.

I'm too new so far but the metagaming level seems about "average," generally reserved for the slut hobos instead of murder hobos. Initial impressions of autism of the veterans and mentors seems on the lower moderate side. There is some form of 'crafting' system but honestly, I havent been assed to do anything with that yet.

This thread's been quiet so let's review what's been going on in the open sewer that is SLRP.
- Mysts of Eyr is closing in March and I have no idea how it lasted this long.
- Crest of Vrek'mar v4.0 or whatever is now open, and it's filled with the same thirst as all of it's predecessors. Probably fun if you just need a fap and forget, shit for anything with more depth. Beware shitty d100 HUD.
- Ruins of Xenark's traffic has plummeted since the new CoV opened. They can't seem to decide what their setting is actually supposed to be but they do make an effort to make the damn d100 HUD a little less stupid by adding stats, which is alright.
- Alderheim is a newish sim. It's a pretty nice build, has layers the way Mhirdrun did though that spreads people out too much so it's impossible to actually find some RP. Also they tend to assign staff positions to the first autist that shows up. Uses that shitty d100 HUD.
- Shades of Immortality had decent traffic for a minute but it seems to have plunged. My money is on the fucking furries. Also shit d100 HUD.
- Morathai is just a rebranded Baelnorn, all of it's traffic is probably bots like it's predecessor.
- Tarinfell has TarinFAILed, now having less traffic than the average residential parcel.
- Elysium keeps a decent population, an okayish combat system, and a pretty build. But they have an unfortunate habit of trying to force the narrative, and I don't care what they say, I can't take having a weeboo orc ruling the 'human' city seriously at all.
- Revenland ebbs and flows and unfortunately tends to draw the specialist of snowflakes because Nixie, bless her sweet heart, sees nothing wrong with them.
- RoE is still just yiffing with an logistics game.
- Fallout Evolved... I don't know why Violetta Daviau keeps trying to open sims. They only ever last a month or two before everyone gets scared away by her shit fetish.
- Novus continues to be owned and operated by the dumbest, flakiest clusterfuck of silly bitches ever to join SL.
- Unnatural is the current Tether's End. Pretty standard modern fantasy, nothing superfancy.
- Hollow's End tries too hard to accommodate everybody's dumb shit. Owner insists on afflicting her character with the same gender dysphoria she herself possesses because what even is OOC/IC separation, right.

Not a bad list. Mysts of Eyr was kept alive mostly through the sheer willpower of a small group of people and little else over the last couple years. Nevertheless, it had every reason to fade totally into obscurity outside of this. In the end its lack of activity that kills any RP, good or bad, with such longevity. Owners just don't want to pay for a sim that almost no one is using. Source: SL oldfag since '04.
Additionally, I'm in Hollow's End and Alderheim. Fun places if you want them to be. I also float around many many other current and long lasting sims and I have a general warning to give to anyone interested in SLRP if they're new to it and thinking of joining these or anything else out there. If someone named emptyexpression, or ƇԼƛƦƖƬƳ, tries to interact you, save yourself an inevitable nightmare and mute them.
To make a long and boringly depressing story short, they've existed on a plethora of avatars over the years under various names and use Second Life as a vehicle to deal with some very serious mental illnesses they have in real life (such as dissociative identity disorder, pathological lying, malignant narcissism). By deal with, I mean to say they essentially meet unsuspecting people through RP, usually overall RP noobs and lonely people looking for some sort of meaningful interaction with anyone, and ensnare their way from SL into their personal life and cause them all sorts of problems.
From emotional manipulation to outright blackmail, this person is a mess. This crosses the line from simple drama to predation because they've been doing it for years and when either they're outed or get caught they jump to a new avatar to restart the process on. They've joined just about every current and populated RP sim and I've bumped into them more times than I'm alright with. If not for the fact every avatar they make is strikingly similar to the last (from a lack of creativity and imagination) as well as their distinct and recognizable writing style, I'd probably have not even known it was them. Currently, they're saying they are disinterested in anything but RP but this is just another fake face of someone with severe problems. Just avoid them. There have only been a very small, single digit number of people who have genuinely concerned me in my time on SL and they definitely are one of them.

They gave up on one of the most successful sims on the grid because they got bored with it.
Anyone who believes the bullshit about Annie losing her job and no longer being able to actually pay for the sim wasn't on the staff at that point. She took multiple overseas vacations in the year following Mystara's closing, and when the person 'paying' for the sim left the team, they found a replacement too quickly for it to not be suspicious.
It was very clear that Annie just didn't like dealing with the responsibility of being Sim Owner anymore, and pawned the position off onto the first person willing to take it on, so she could just create as she wished. Not a bad thing by any means, but when you're actively turning away and shunning old players and team members because they can't see the "Genius of your vision" (Translation: Enjoy the smell of your farts as much as you do. ), that's when things get bad.
A good sim is a blank slate that your players get to paint their own story on. The problem with Eyr was that Annie and the rest of the staff team treated the Sim as the main character, with players there to give it flavour. Anyone who dared to speak up about it was shunned or silenced in some way or another. To them, the sim was the perfect masterpiece, and no player was allowed to disturb the status quo of it, advance the plot or setting in any way, or otherwise shift the balance.
Eyr is dead, and good riddance. Strangely enough, when you promise one thing to your player base, and then deliver the exact opposite and won't allow any compromise on it, people don't stick around. Who knew?

I'll get it done soon, it's just that I've been busy with some different stuff and whatever. It just gets exhausting looking at the same shit that I've been working on for now six months and all I can do is stare it down and try and figure out where I last left off. It's not that I don't want to work on it it's just that with everything else in my life it kind of gets pushed to the wayside. I know Nixie has been working hard to keep the server going and it seems to be working well enough regardless of the undercity being done. I know that I've made a couple promises about it being done last year but you know the old saying, someday does come suddenly. I have days where I realize that today was that someday and I'll often go on manic streaks of work and, to anyone reading this who plays on Revenland-- it's going to get done. I have poured countless hundreds of hours on completely custom textures and models for no cost to the player and on top of that, no cost to Nixie or the staff. I have been paying for a lot of this stuff out of my own pocket and I really love the server with all my heart and everyone who puts their time in there for leisure or otherwise. It's still going to get done, full scripted casino and all with the cool bells and whistles I just need more time as dumb as that sounds.
And to anyone reading this who does not participate in Revenland I want you to know it's the best place ever and I've really poured a lot of love into it and the staff (Nixie and Bighat) are nothing but angels and hearts of gold. I'm sure you've all seen the sort of shit that people say about the sim in the thread and it's always something about how Nixie is often too nice (>>43911) and you know, that's a little thing I joke at her about but RP is getting harder to come by and good builds are hard to come by too and Revenland is honestly the place to be.

Try short stories. They get the concept of the story across whilst keeping it only to at most 10 pages.
Infinity series is my favorite for this since theyre books chock full of short stories, none being connected in any way even taking place in entirely different universes. You can easily find e-book torrents via google.

Another update because I've been shopping for a sim again.
- CoV remains high traffic. I took a chance and had a single scene there. Pretty much what I expected, with a rando thot throwing herself all over the guy I was there to see. Never went back and the dude has long since left, too.
- Xenark's traffic has improved somewhat, and it actually looking like a reasonable alternative now that it's not emphasizing DTF as much.
- Alderheim's traffic has doubled lately, and it seems they finally wised up a bit and stopped putting problem players in lead positions. Their race list is a little weird though - contradictory, even. Also having a frosty northern zone likely attracts those special breeds of retards who equate viking culture to gorean culture...
- Shades of Immortality, Revenland, Briarhaven and iRoleplay / Fallout Evolved all have shit traffic. Revenland is the only one I care about out of those four. Nixie works her butt off and she's so sweet she deserves to succeed.
- Morathai is gone.
- LELysium is closing. I guess that happens when the owner is picking staff/leads from her pool of fuckbois.
- The owners of Novus haven't sought treatment for their combined bullshit. I failed to mention the last time that they have player character gods, which is intensely lulzy. But they have good traffic - just beware random encounters with exposed penises.
- Hollow's End closed because one of the owners lost his job and he has much more serious shit to worry about. No hate.
- Unnatural is getting crushed by Nocturne, which is a WoD sim and uses the WoD system tweaked for SLRP. They use the damn d100 HUD... but you spend the XP you accumulate in the standard 'submit a notecard' fashion to get new dots on your sheet. There's a lot of individual specialization, and it's pretty neat. On the other hand they seem non-confrontational about the occasional problem player. Overall, not a bad time.
- Lynnea is hoping to open may 10th or so. I'm actually pretty excited about it. I had a good time the last time around, and they won't be doing the messy applications this time around.

It's really not that serious, guy. Most sims provide some sort of titler, and generally they're easy enough to use. Except the Prohawk HUD, which is way more complicated than it needs to be. Instead of simply giving you a dialogue box to type whatever into it, they make you use a media prim or external website.
As for what that text should say, massive paragraphs of irrelevant information is generally frowned upon... especially scents, lol. Amazing how many people in a snowy northern setting, far from anything resembling Madagascar or Mesoamerica magically smell like vanilla.... and/or don't seem to understand that nightshade smells like a particularly offensive medicinal syrup.
Anyways.
Generally my title will go something like this:

Young adult female drow
In good health
Most details beyond that are best expressed in actual RP - but exceptions can be made for unusual and persistent conditions. Is your persnickety bard uncharacteristically filthy today? Is that friendly, cheerful cleric walking around with a thundercloud on the brow and murder glinting in the eyes? Broken arm? All of that is acceptable to put in the titler and removed once resolved.

Lots of sims use Iain Maltz' d100 HUD anymore. Most of the time, you just submit notecarded RP per the sim's guidelines, and that XP adds up to a flat bonus on all your rolls.
The perks are that even an autistic hedgehog can manage that much, and it's nice to be rewarded for being involved. The cons are that usually the cap is +80, which is ridiculous. Nobody should be able to beat someone else by that huge a margin. I don't remember if I read it in this thread or somewhere else, but some sims have a house rule that you can't roll higher than +30 against your opponent.
Also, you have to cam your opponent to roll against them, which is sometimes problematic and involves close inspection of butts.
Other sims, like Nocturne, use a different configuration. You gather XP and then spend it on skills, which can give you modifiers to certain roles or new special moves or new special equipment better than the base freebies.
Perks are that it lets you build the character with the skills you want, tabletop style. The playing field is somewhat more level for it.
The cons are that not everybody wants to go into that kind of exacting detail about it, and character sheets can cause headaches.
Overall, though, the standard d100 HUD is easy. Roll against to attack, your opponents HUD automatically rolls defense. Back and forth until someone has taken (usually) three hits.
The modified d100 HUD is more complicated, but it's also more satisfying - if you have carefully built your hunter to be an epic gun fetishist, then dem headshots are that much more pleasing.
LELysium is closing and I'm not sure who else is really using the prohawk hud besides Nova Braeden - but the general concept is that you have 2d10 for standard actions, but every additional post for an action (aiming carefully for a round, or casting a multi-post spell) gives you another 1d10 per round. I generally liked the system, it encouraged cooperation. The titler part of the Prohawk is annoying, as I said before.
Aside from those two, most other sims will just offer you a basid d20 or d100 hud with no mechanics for modifiers... they're simply for impartial resolution, and especially useful when faced with a powergamer or mary sue.
