This one came at 28 LI but I shaved a few points off by removing exterior pieces. It's tiny by SL standards, about 8x8m. But you can make it bigger or smaller.
Since there's no hole in the floor of the Attic skybox I just made it so the ladder teleports you when you click it.

If you ripped the wall texture you could add an alpha, but then you'd still need to replace the mesh physics object.
Or you could do what I did to add the basement. I put a teleporter on the ladder with a climbing animation. Just use one of those "Anywhere Door" teleporters. Unless "one gaint room" is what you're going for in combining them.

I hope no one minds if I do a mass dump.
Anyways, this is a friends home that he lets his other friends, myself included, use and build with. Sort of like a community. He made the base and most of it and we've been steadily adding on to it. Even giving us duties such as me decorating the tavern (still not finished) and running it. His intention was that he wanted a home for his friends but also a good RP environment that wouldn't be full of jack asses and edge lords ruining the RP. He's also allowed pretty much any theme by making the lore of it being "A pocket dimension that exists outside of time. If you can get there, then you're there." sort of thing, so you don't have to dress in theme, but it's nice to, and modern things are just kept indoors.
Pictured is an above shot of the entire place and the modding/building spot (It became a major problem with pose stands not being picked up and littering the place.)

Oh wow, this is the same thread I posted to over a year ago.
I still live in the same place, with the same skybox, but I upgraded it a lot.
Originally, it was the little attic skybox with a basement and a barn connected by teleporters. I really wanted an outside area so I built a yard. The parcel and mesh landscape are 64x64.
Then I moved all of the no-copy toys and furniture to the yard and barn so I could put the attic and basement into a holodeck rezzer.
I put the rezzer terminal in the yard. Now I always have my yard and barn, but I can rez any other parts of my home when I want to use them. They're all connected by doors around the yard and I use experiences for the door teleporters so you just click the door to open, then walk right in.

I'd put building interiors into separate skyboxes anyway, to keep framerates high, tossing them into a holodeck gives me the added benefit of always having half my parcel's prims free for new content. Ad the way the rezzer is integrated into the parcel itself makes it all relatively seamless, the doors to unrezzed skyboxes just appear to be locked.
Since the yard and barn only use about half the parcel's prims, some of those skyboxes get pretty large. On of them is a small, post-apocalyptic town.

Oh, totally. The more prims you have, the more effectively and seamlessly it can be implemented.
On the other end of the spectrum, it makes for a great small-scale RP area. My home is a 64x64m parcel with about 1000 prims. There's always 3 separate locations people can be in. That might not sound like much but even if I constantly had 20 people hanging around my house, that's only about 6-7 people per location. And there's pros to an RP area where people aren't spread out across an entire sim.
The yard itself is actually pretty spacious. The barn is small and cozy, but some of the instanced areas are huge since half the parcel's prims are available for them.

Definitely. The thing i noticed about SL is that people tend to fall into two behaviour modes regarding their positioning.
The first is the social "hotspot", they pick one place that people converge at, usually the place with the most seats like lounges, couches etc. These hotspots sometimes shift from time to time, usually caused by the sim being empty and a small clique gathering somewhere, where newcomers tend to be drawn to. It rarely happens at RP sims if there's a designated meeting place for a faction or another form of clique decided to make it their hangout spot, but is much more common in "social" sims, like BDSM clubs. People rarely deviate from the "hotspot" unless they're their behaviour mode is locked into the other one.
This second behaviour i noticed is the "territory", which is more commonly found in roleplay sims. It's most-often people who haven't joined a faction or similar relating to the RP sim, usually newer people but sometimes even factionleader do this. They tend to pick spots that seem plausible to hang around, but they always stand around alone, probably waiting for someone to approach them for a 1on1. If they find someone (mostlikely doing the same) in one spot, they circle around that and try to find a spot on their own, which usually ends up with a sim with scattered with individuals that idle around and no RP happening, because they all get to find their safe bubble.
So having a much more tighter place that still offers interesting locations is beneficial, because being forced to stand in someone's vicinity usually ramps up enough "awkward silence" to have one of them break and approach them.
Also, i'd love to visit that place some time.

You mean the teleporters? A generic teleporter script using Experience Tools to make them the most idiot-proof teleporters in SL. Literally, you just walk into the teleporter and it teleports you.
If you mean the rezzing system I used, a friend scripted it up for me and once we've given it a thorough shakedown to work out all of the problems we run into, they plan to release it to the marketplace specifically so people can use it in public sims without worrying.
If you're scripting your own system, or modding an existing rezzer, the main things to watch out for are people impatiently pounding away at the rezzing controls while the sim is lagging in rezzing what they've already selected, and that when the sim restarts, the rezzed items lose sync with the rezzing package, which means the currently rezzed room won't de-rez on its own.
As long as every item in the rezzing area can be deleted when that happens, and in my experience it doesn't happen very frequently, it's easy to clean up. Just annoying.

I'm almost certainly just explaining it poorly. I am not a scripter. A friend of mine does that for me.
We did add a timed block after the first time it happened and figured that should have fixed it, but it happened once afterwards. I haven't been able to recreate the problem myself and haven't seen it since that one last time a couple of months ago so I dunno.
And since that one last time it's worked perfectly. It's been a lot of fun trying to figure out what kind of environments I can design that fit into 500 prim packages. I've already got ideas for an all new downtown city area and a Fallout version of the cabin in the woods from Evil Dead I want to build.

A skybox doesn't have to be enclosed. I've made a bunch of outdoor skyboxes as a part of my home.
My parcel is 64x64m, but I cheat a bit with mountains and buildings anchored off the edge of my parcel. Neighbors generally don't care when it's a skybox and you're nowhere near where they're building.

i use a few projector lights with the default blank/white image as the image. i set them in three colors:
2d4b9b, a dark blue
f919cc, a magenta
53f919, a lime green
overlapping them usually gives the best effect. on top of this, a night-time windlight usually helps the best. pics related, theyre parts of my house where i do the same in my old webm house. hope that helps!

Are there any interesting sims that have rentals? After like a dozen and a half skyboxes I think I've just gotten bored with it, I want to try renting something that's an actual apartment on a sim somewhere, not sure if there's anything actually cool out there though.
