Seconded. Pyro's probably your best option right now.
Even though it hasn't been updated since July, It's still the best bet.

if you absolutely -have- to use DS, follow the usual precautions/use on an alt/on a VM if possible, etc.

Here's the last cracked version of Dorkstorm (v2.8). It should work for the most part, albeit being a tad outdated (IE it is incompatible with fitted mesh). Use at your own risk, fags.

But seriously: only use open sourced viewers, viewers made by "trusted" individuals, or a viewer made by yourself.
Even if the viewer is open source, it is not always wise to trust the binary. But you're already trying to be a faggot with your account, so it is clear you could give a fuck less about the integrity of your account.

You can get these out of the cache. No, I don't know of any nice pretty off the shelf GUI apps that do this, probably because it's a straightforward kind of thing you can mash together in Python etc.

http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/VFS for overview, this part of the cache is described as "obsolete" but just about all assets except for textures and sounds are still in there. follow the bouncing links, and grab one of the mainstream viewers' source to get constants like asset types.

I really don't see a significant difference between trusting the binary compiled and provided by the developers an open source viewer and simply compiling the provided code yourself. Most people do not have the technical knowledge to spot even a fairly obvious vulnerability that made it in either inadvertently or through malice, and most people who do have the technical knowledge won't want to spend the time unless they're specifically modifying it for their personal use. Just because you could have checked the code yourself doesn't make that code inherently any safer than a binary if you don't do it.

If the maker no longer produces, or finds what you want produced "Gross" then your only option is to DIY.

It's much easier to make custom textures for mesh avatars once you have a mesh.

It'd be like needing sony to put stickers on your CD player for you after you'd bought it, or go without having stickers on the CD player.

Only sorta related I suppose, but I figure this thread's the best place to ask.

I'd used the Incognito viewer ages ago to get shit I owned onto OpenSims for use there. I noticed it had shit to hide your Hardware ID and such. What I'm curious about, is what up-to-date Mesh-capable viewers these days still have that option?

I'm looking to set up a proxy and use the HWID scrambler so I can try a few things out without putting my actual account at risk of being caught in a blanket ID/IP ban.

If I remember right, we may not get it because the meshes get uploaded and read from the servers, while prims and sculpts can be taken in a easier way. Like, sculpts is obvious because it's just copying texture and putting it onto objects, and prims are just reading off the dimensions. Mesh is a very different beast, it seems.

Your viewer only receives the baked texture for the avatar head and upper/lower body.

Sure thing, anon.

I use design ideas from plenty of other items, I guess I stole those too, right? Even though I do all the work myself?

Something interesting between Darkstorm and Firestorm copybotting tools.
Darkstorm is based off firestorm, according to the darkstorm readme.

Firestorm doesn't allow copying of other character avatars.
Firestorm is trash because of this.
But darkstorm does allow it but it's considered a backdoor virus.
Darkstorm is trash because of that.

Something I was curious about, could someone copy the XML of darkstorm which allows copying and just replace it over the firestorm XML?

After replacing the missing error codes I get another error. I'm going to spend another 20 minutes replacing code.

Is this a futile attempt at getting firestorm to copy other characters?

I just want to walk around looking like a bimbo with clothing options without having to spend actual money.

It is shit because it is outdated code that frequently fucks up, especially for linked mesh items. Additionally .obj can't be uploaded to SL and you need to convert them back to .dae

The newer version of simm's copybot viewer exports in .dae and is based on one of the latest firestorm versions. There is really no reason to keep using darkstorm.

Just rip it yourself.

And while we're on the topic of ripping, here's a tool that lets you rip rigged mesh, even bento:

https://a.pomf.cat/zgkahb.rar

How to: first rip the mesh you want with .xml export (darkstorm and variants of it let you do that), then use this tool on the exported .xml, set the path to the cache location of the viewer you used to rip it.

After the first use you can change the path of the export folder in the init.xml file

Most of the people that I know who rip items do it for personal use. They do buy the products, or try as hard as reasonably possible to pay for the item they like (they might not get it because it's retired, the stores are closed down, or because it's a ridiculously rare gacha item.) A lot of them rip things to reupload with modify perms, or with some minor modification to the mesh.

Make your items easily accessible to the people who want them, and do not flip out when people do things for harmless purposes. You have a right to be discontent that your item was modified without your permission, and that someone else now has the files for it. However, you should not get angry at someone who just wants to use your stuff. Explain that while it's flattering, you don't feel comfortable with your items used in such a way and that they shouldn't do it again. Most people do listen.

I use a copybot for the sole purpose of making modifications to non mod items or skins that either don't match my head or support my desired color. Anything else I will just buy. That being said most people now a days will make their products modifiable and if they aren't I'll message the creator and ask for a modifiable version first.

Scripts are another reason for exporting a non-modifiable item (non mod hairs that won't let you delete the resizer script inside).

Depends on the market. Fitmesh for mainstream human bodies is basically never modifiable unless you buy one of the full perm kits. Presumably the main reason for this is to prevent people from making their own modded textures so they can sell fatpacks and the like.

I wish I lived in your world. It sounds like a dream. No-mod seems to be the norm as far as I can tell, and it's awful. Everything from bodies, heads, and clothing is all frustratingly mod disabled.

Do you deal mostly in furry and/or anime items, maybe? Those markets are much more creator/mod friendly.

CB viewers can't get around the permission system as far as EDITING things in-world goes, because there are server-side checks made for that.

CB viewers can only get around the client/viewer-side enforcing of the permission system, meaning that you can view/export anything your viewer has knowledge of, like object properties (values in the edit window, particle systems, etc), and observable assets (textures, sounds, animations, mesh, etc.)

So, if you wanted to modify your no-mod stuff, you'll have to export it and re-upload it first, but at that point you'll be listed as the creator and if anybody inspects your shit, you're (possibly) fucked.

I think giving pubbies tools for free would not be a good use of my time and any other active exploits in the viewer I use for region testing would be killed off before I can submit proper SEC entries for them.

As of now there are no known permissions exploits. You can however find a full perm prim from the creator and set the viewer to import using that asset, as well as sppof creation times by having the import make prims at different times, this way you can make it look like the link set is legit. I know some viewers did this in the past. I am not very good at C++ and managed to do this, so I am sure one of the much smarter viewer devs could do this on their own.

Anyone here have any experience with MeshesSL? I'm using it for the first time and the folder it's generating is a fucking ghost, clearly visible in MeshesSL but not in file explorer. I also have the same problem with exports from SL Cache Viewer, which is weird because at one point it worked just fine for me.

(Yes, I do have "show hidden files and folders" enabled.)

>but at that point you'll be listed as the creator and if anybody inspects your shit, you're (possibly) fucked.

You can hide this to a certain extent by linking it to a prim you created... most people will see you as the creator, assume that's because you created the prim, and probably not care enough to directly inspect the linked object. Depending on how efficient your upload is, this probably won't even add to the LI, and if that prim is being used as an invisible collision box for a physics-less upload, it won't even look suspicious.

Granted, that's just the equivalent of tossing a blanket over a pile of stolen goods, but as long as that blanket doesn't look out of place, nobody's going to care enough to peek under it.

I think that he means that because you are always listed as the creator of everything you upload, people would recognize that this thing is originally from another store and could report you.

But… and that's the Nr.1 thing you have to know if you copybot things… the stores you "steal" from most of the time aren't the original creators. They are just people that buy the meshes from some 3D model marketplaces and resell it.

So those stores are in no position to complain and take you down, because how would they know that you didn't just pay the original creators to use it (like they did)?

Also keep in mind that SL is fucking hostile towards actual original creator.

If you have a store and you actually create things yourself, the reseller-stores will see you as their main enemy.

You will rarely see an actual legit DMCA request in SL, or even OpenSim, because the "creators" that complain aren't original creators. And just an original creator could fill a DMCA request.

That's why you see so much copybotted stuff on the marketplace, because those are the people that copy and actually stay their ground. If someone complains about them, they will hit back and write a thousand mails to LL about how they should prove that the original creator doesn't approve and actually fill complains about the other creators that use that model.

For me animations appear broken in general, and some meshes won't load at all, and this in every viewer, not just copybot.

So i didn't even try to copybot something huge yet, it would be just a waste of time.

I was also thinking about trying to port pyrokitty patches to the newest firestorm, but as long as firestorm itself is buggy, that is also a dead project right now.
