Okay so with this new update I realized that SL Cache Viewer no longer works.

I've been looking at how the cache works and it seems that the whole thing got shifted about and no longer reads out of the "texture.entries" file and is now relying on a "texture.cache" file which (Ironically) the SL Cache viewer is incapable of opening.

I do a shitload of modding in Secondlife and am the furthest thing from a codemonkey so I am kind of curious;

Has anybody found a way around this?

Am I using an old program and there has always been something better than cache viewer?

Is there anything out there that can crack a .CACHE file?

You can just use an older version of the viewer of your choice and it will work just fine.

You're on borrowed time if you do that though. After a month, old viewers cannot access the inventory due to LL changing apparently how it handles SL's inventory.

Fuck. I thought it was just fuckery since I still had both versions installed.

Guess I better make a backup archive of my skins, just in case the cache viewer doesn't get updated.

OP here. You have until the 7th to archive as much textures as you can.

If I can make any suggestion to you, if you have Ls, invest in some of the better named skins, buy one light tone, one dark tone and modify going forward.

On a slightly uplifting note; I know two people who may have something for this.

If it turns out that the Texture.Cache file is what is storing the textures than I think we may be good; I'd still start mass exporting what you've got just in case.

I mean that texture.cache file keeps getting bigger, it has to be what's storing the textures.

IIRC GL Intercept stopped working ages ago, right?

I did a very, very brief check on this- I tried renaming the texture.cache to texture.entries, and more textures showed up- however, they were all red "X"s, so I'm not surer if that actually works or if it was because I hadn't booted my viewer up in a while

How likely is it that someone will find a way to fix this going forward?

Pretty likely it's already been fixed by those in the right places.

GLintercept is independent of the viewer

As long as SL uses OpenGL, GLintercept will work

Excellent, thanks for the heads up. Might not be so bad after all, if GL intercept still works.

Just remember that OPEN GL is best in these situations.

OP again, OpenGL is by far the most convenient way of doing this kind of thing that I have ever used.

Thanks for this guys. Crisis averted!

Confirmed GL Intercept still works. The most annoying part is it can't capture individual clothing layers, but I guess that's not too much of a big deal since everything is mesh appliers anymore. I reckon if you wanted to make your old favorite tattoo into an applier you'd have done it by now.

What is this OpenGL, can you elaborate? I did a google search but I didn't find anything obviously relevant about it. The language is above my paygrade.

I have a working texture cache viewer, however, it's a tad more annoying because it downloads all the textures instead of just viewing them. Also the files are JP2 so you have to use Irfanview Thumbnails to view them, but it works.
