No monthly cost. You'd just have to buy products to put the avatars together. I think you could do both on one female body and head (get a flat chest modifier, and get a bento head), which leaves 2 skins, and clothing. I recommend going for the maitreya body since it has lots of support. Please get someone inworld to help you. Unfortunately, "realistic" human avatars are a lot more expensive than furry or anime avatars to put together, so you may run a cost of 20-40 dollars for both.

Keep in mind that's for a good looking avatar and not a blocky chunky default body avatar.

You should take the time to find someone you like, be there friend an if they are into being dom express being there pet/sub/slave. From there its much easier to express what you are into and get them to tailor your sessions to it.

One thing I always advise new people to look out for is people with stock LL avatars. There's a lot of creeps that roam what's known as "the mainland", and it's mostly filled with people like them. Short of outright pirating shit, which tends to be pretty complicated anyway...

Gifts given out as promotions by actual active stores are always the best. Either for being part of their update group (they may or may not charge a price to join the group though) or for special occasions at the pretty much constant shopping festival type events that go on in SL. It's generally much easier to find good quality shoes and hair for free than it is anything else.

After that I guess if you're willing to pan for gold in a river of shit you could try scavenger hunts. The quality is often pretty low though, because most of the participants are unpopular stores that need those kinds of events to drive traffic because their products don't do it on their. Still can be an ok source for clothes and furniture, just expect to delete 90+% of the things you pick up.

Freebie malls are almost universally shit. The only one I can think of that I would even slightly recommend would the free dove, and then only to newbies who want to get their feet wet without any cash commitment.

There's also the Midnight Madness boards (and various clones) where if enough people come by and click them over the course of the day everyone gets a prize at midnight. A variant of that where one person randomly gets one. And Lucky Boards/Chairs which cycle randomly through letters and the first person whose username starts with that letter to click it gets something. In a lot of cases with these the prizes also rotate randomly. The quality of this category runs the gamut from full commercial quality to complete shit.

There are in world groups for finding free stuff, the only one I have any experience with is SL frees & offers which is ok. They have a blog slfreesandoffers.blogspot.com. For hunts I would recommend using huntsl.com. To keep track of sales and events seraphimsl.com is pretty much the best there is, use that to look for events to troll through looking for freebies or to keep tabs on sales which are generally a better bet than actual free stuff in terms of quality.

All that said, your best way to have a revenue neutral SL experience is to make something, it doesn't even have to be particularly good, and throw in on the marketplace to get at least a trickle of passive income going though.

Bare Rose also has a lot of freebies. The quality varies; Bare rose really isn't the best, but they make a lot of fantasy items that are hard to find in other stores.

I'm definitely going to say that you WON'T be able to get things like mesh bodies, or mesh heads for free. Especially not human ones. The only time I recall anything like that being free was when the Adam head was released, and it went on sale for free for a limited amount of time. So if you're going for a full avatar, you don't really have many options.

If the advanced/detailed alpha sections of the HUD don't have fine enough controls, you could make a custom alpha cut for your skin since the 2.0 body is mod. But that's a bit tricky.

Those skins have the biggest texture size allowed by SL (1024x1024). If you want higher res than that you need to use more textures which means the body will be incompatible with all existing systems like Omega.

So the problem is not skin makers, it is mesh body makers who use the LL UV map, you need to find a body that has more faces like >>35167. I doubt you'll find many custom skins, or anything made for that body because of low adoption rate, but that's the only way.

Very few. Most materials you'll find are not bundled with the skin, and are geared towards wet skin effects and the like. I've never found realistic materials (with good quality skins) for non-anime mesh bodies.

Maitreya, Slink and Belleza offer a default specular at least. You can probably make one yourself though, by just ripping the texture in SLCacheViewer and turning it black and white, maybe turn up the contrast.
