The ddos attacks, all the time lost before bringing this place back up, the infinite list of bugs, broken captcha, post failures, site crashing. And staff incompetence, the mess about lolis being allowed or not, Jim and Ron blatantly contradicting themselves. The general inability to speak or even ask for clarifications to the administration because no meaningful, useful way of contacting them exists now. And finally, again, Jim himself, who really just cares of this place because of the influence or money he can make out of it.
Still, I was still up to go on, for now, even if I was already thinking we should move away from this gloving hellhole that the site has become. And recent facts proved me right, apparently.
First off, Mark was kicked off of /v/ just because he refused to shill the /newsplus/ board, while Jim of course wanted to. I don't care about /v/ or him, what I care for is the method. If they can just decide to kick off someone like that, then no I am not up to stay here anymore.

90s+ - The 2000s
I think, that in all technological aspects, the 200th decade improved greatly (at least aesthetically) upon the last. Essentially, it was to the 90s as Windows XP was to Windows 98. I really like that Japan, being so behind the times, isolated on their little island continues to use many of those technologies. It's like a miniature alternate history world, or divergent technological evolution. I have a vague feeling that my love for very slightly old technology and Japan has been warping my view though, since that naturally means I consume Japanese media from that era, and end up in this echo chamber of things like CLAMP works, Chobits alone going over and beyond satisfying my computer fetish.
Putting that aside, please discuss very "2000"s things here. I'll start with DVD players, and especially the introduction of shitty practices like "Mandated Viewing" previews dedicated to advertisements and "Thank you so much for purchasing this disc!" portions that really make you wish that you stole it instead. As for GOOD things, there's the bonus features and craptastic DVD games that often get thrown in kids' movies. I think something like bonus features still get put in anime BDs, but I'm only a fledgling buyfag, so I can't really tell.
Sorry if this post's kind of incoherent, I actually stopped for a few hours mid writing.

First off, the fact that I'm even making a thread about his makes me feel like a fucking retard, but I've actually come around to the idea of it. I'd honestly like to learn the language and just move there. No weeb faggot shit, just moving out into the country and ingratiating with the culture. America seems to be getting worse by the month for reasons that I'm sure you all are cognisant of, and well it seems that japan isn't really having those problems. What are some ways to gain full-time residence in Japan? What are the things I should know/think about before truly committing to the idea. What have you done to archive Japanese media?
As many of you are probably well-aware Geocities JP is set to go onto the chopping block within the next year. You can help Archive Team with that, there's probably a dozen redundant backups of the entire site by now, but I'm sure that more would always be appreciated. The thing is, archival isn't some transient issue that'll be resolved every time people are called into action to solve whatever the current crisis is. There's a CONSTANT crisis going on, and people can hardly be alerted to it every other day of the week. The fact that we aren't prepared for data erasure unless we're given prior warning is the issue here. You can't always just assume that somebody else has got the job done already.
How can you help? There's two simple ways to do this:
Download and seed torrents of things you like. Easy as pie. Just remember to always try to at least keep the ones which most closely reflect the original media, even if that somehow detracts from the experience for you. Downloading raws and using your own external subtitle files means nothing if you haven't got an actual ISO for anime, for example. Manga are kind of tricky, since often in cases where they do have digital editions, some content is cut out from the printed version, and there's no real definitive way to perfectly scan paper, as it's an analogue medium. As for games, downloading ISOs rather than floating directories with these shitty pre-installed patches for video games is kind of just a given, so please just do that.
Another way which might turn out to be substantially more useful to everybody if you have some money to burn (better the paper of money than the paper of books), is to buy media which isn't currently available anywhere you've searched on the Internet and scan it yourself. This methodology is less accessible to anyone living outside of Japan (as you can't really rent items from overseas, and renting is much less expensive than buying), but it's still possible through online marketplaces like eBay or Yahoo (or even Amazon, if it comes down to that). If you do this, it's very important that you remember not to make any alterations to the media before uploading it. Anime seems to get treated the worst, as transcodes will typically somehow appear much earlier than actual ISO images. And PLEASE use ISOs, every last bit of your disc must be captured or else it'll be absolutely worthless.
It should be kept in mind that paying for things that are already freely available to pirate is generally not only shameful, but also somewhat harmful to the archival effort. If you've got a copy of whatever media you've got on a disc, or in book form or whatever, chances are, you're not going to download and seed any torrents for it. If you've already got it, and it's already very available, then what's the point in keeping it on your hard drive as well, right? I guess that kind of attitude can be deliberately avoided, but I think the money would be better spent on some obscure crap that you won't necessarily enjoy, but just happened to not be on the net.

For you who don't know the 8chan Cup or the Infinity Cup as it's also been known as is a tournament of CPU soccer players playing each other, representing their board for glory above the other ones and such
What I'm going to need is a roster of 20 Players with their Positions, at least 2 of which needing to be Goalkeepers. As well as a roster I'm going to need a Kit design or two decided by you, a team logo, an Anthem and Goalhorns
What would be nice is the kit done in the format for direct import into the game of which I'm Using Pro Evolution Soccer 2017, as well as Medals for players, and skills, as well as any special imports for the players if you're able to muster it
Medals are a system the 8cup uses to make star players, of which regular players are rated 77 all round and GKs are 70
Unlike the last one there will be 3 teirs of Medals, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Bronze is 85 all round, Silver is 92 and Gold is 99, and each team can have 2 of each medaled players (2 bronze players, 2 silver and 2 gold).
Skills are the same as last time and are entirely optional as I can just put them in

I wish I had the skill to draw the best anime girls in the world. It feels like all the skills I could get, I've gotten at the early age (up until I was ~16). Nowadays I can't learn anything as well and I feel like I'm constantly behind.
How to fucking hack my way into learning how to draw so that I don't have to spend 20 years on fundamentals?

I live in Japan, and it fucking sucks. I made a thread about this a lonnnng time ago, but this bears repeating.
1. Anime and manga are more expensive in Japan. The prices are ridiculous, and it's hard for me to justify buying anime even though I feel it's important for fans to make an effort to support the industry.
2. If you are a girl, you will be groped and treated like shit. I have had men grab my ass in public *7* different times in the past year and a half. My Japanese friends say that women should just grit their teeth and bear it, since if you try to do something about it you will be publicly shamed. I also feel dirty and pathetic when these incidents occur.
3. Office culture in Japan is...intense. You are expected to show up at social gatherings even if you do not want to. And at these social gatherings people have the EXACT SAME CONVERSATIONS AGAIN AND AGAIN. I've had like 50 conversations on the power of beer to refresh you after a day's work. You have to say "good morning" every day in a very specific way, and if you don't then someone will approach you and tell you that's not how things are done at company XYZ.
4. The people treat gaijin like shit. Even the ones who try to be nice come across as condescending and rude by American standards. There are also a large number of Japanese men who think gaijin women are sluts and that they can get you to open your legs at the drop of a hat. Fuckers.
I wish all the Japanohiles could actually visit GLORIOUS NIPPON. They'd change their tune.

They are attracted to each others virtual characters, and proceed to initiate in VR engaged sexual intercourse. There, that's our situation. Get it? Ok. Let me tell you this just in case you are too slow to notice it: there's a number of existential issues arising from this hypothetical event that the two otaku must now face.
1) if A sucks B's cock, but is a male in real world, does that make him gay, even though sucking B's virtual cock is straight from his character's point of view?
2) if B lets A suck his cock, does that make him gay?
3) if B was also a sexy female, thus making this lesbian sex, would it be gay?
4) would it be gay if either (or both) were futa?
Indeed, I believe I am correct in saying there are plentiful of moral problems that will arise from our adventures in Virtual Reality. And these are the fundamental philosophical questions that must be answered before any further steps can be taken in the direction of the future.

Honestly, there are some nasty problems looming on the horizon in terms of sustainability for the otaku lifestyle. Even disregarding the immediate problem of nuclear war with North Korea which threatens to nuke the birthplace of the otaku lifestyle and US, Japan is really the only country where we get this degree of high quality doujinshi, manga, anime, light novels, visual novels, and eroge. These are the roots, so to speak, of the otaku lifestyle.
The roots of the otaku lifestyle need to be spread across the globe for a sustainable future. I am personally interested in this occurring because pretty much everything that I care about entertainment-wise has some kind of influence from Japan.
In terms of problems facing such a spread that I know of, there are several.
The first is that the Japanese art quality is considerably higher than the rest of the world's. There needs to be some sort of learning "framework" transplanted from Japan to the rest of the world to bring up the rest of the world's art quality. The world's overall lack of art skill is a significant roadblock that needs to be addressed.
The second is cultural. People need to get over their absurd fear of sexuality, goddammit. 2D hentai never hurt anyone, and censoring it is retarded. Get rid of the Japan censorship law while you're at it, that thing's dumb.
The third is copyright. The current copyright rules in a lot of places is retarded; there needs to be greater protection for fan-created content to provide a monetary incentive for artists and people to get good at art, produce doujinshi, and overall raise the global art quality through the roof. DMCAing fan-content is retarded, improve the copyright laws please.
The fourth is, you guys need to actually spread this shit around the globe. Take this through Twitter, Facebook, whatever you guys are using to communicate in this day and age. TELL EVERYONE. I'm asking you guys for help because I'm a hermit who has basically no contacts and has no idea where to post this. So I decided to post this here. There needs to be a discussion about this.
tl;dr make the world's art quality better by getting a "framework" for improving art quality from Japan, tell the world to get over its stupid fear of sexuality, and improve rights for fan-created content by improving the stupid copyright laws. And TELL EVERYONE about this. Retweet, etc. There needs to be a discussion about this.

What is Operation Golden Age?
Hello, people of /jp/. I'm the board owner of /x/ and this is a formal invitation to join Operation Golden Age.
The problem
You're probably aware that 8chan's community is small and highly fragmented. This is a terrible combination. Small forums work best when they have a small number of sections. Big sites can afford to have many subforums. While we enjoy the freedom to create and customise our own boards, the current model of infinite boards plus a stagnant community has resulted in a situation where the vast majority of boards are not as active as they could be. This is a pity, because imageboards are a great and versatile medium, and out of all imageboards, 8chan has the most potential.
Unfortunately our growth model so far has relied on various waves of exodus from other communities, mainly from 4chan. By its very nature, this model doesn't guarantee constant growth, and actually makes growth almost undesirable, because when it happens it's so big and sudden that the influx of new users can be difficult to manage. What we want is slow and steady growth.
The solution
We need to start spreading the word about 8chan. The keyword here is "we". The administrators won't do it because they don't make any money from this site, so it's not in their best interest to advertise it. The big boards won't do it either because they already enjoy a good number of PPH (posts per hour) and they're scared that any new visitor might ruin their 'culture'. From their point of view, there's nothing wrong with the current state of things. Most boards on the other hand would greatly benefit from a bigger community, but we have to make it happen. We have to realise that if we don't do something about it, nothing will change.
Now, due to the fact that most small boards represent niche interests, broad advertisements won't be particularly effective. Instead of advertising for 8chan as a site, we want to target people who are already interested in our niche. We can do this for free by mentioning our boards in places where our target audience gather. It can be Youtube videos, forums, blogs, etc. The more exposure, the better. We can create original content that contains a link to our board and share it on as many sites as we want.
Do we really want to recruit from outside of imageboards?
Yes! Remember that we were all newfags at some point. I discovered /v/ and /b/ through a Pokemon forum around 2008. Where did you come from? Everyone has his own story, but the point is that there's no reason to be afraid of newfags. We just need to make sure that they understand how things work around here. I'm currently working on a 8chan guide for newfags. Once it's done, board owners can add it to their boards as a page. I'll post my finished version and you'll be free to modify it however you see fit.

Since then I've been trying my best to become as skillful, educated, athletic and righteous as I possibly can, all while still being the same nerdy person I've always been.
