I use a script now to download all of the videos from relevant tags on nicovideo, and then I pick through everything locally. If I put two or more videos from a given author in the "Good" pile, the script automatically downloads all of the content from that user. 144 gb of MADs downloaded since I started using this method in July, I just don't upload the vast majority of them because the files are too large and i'm not redpilled on video encoding/too lazy

became aware of this MAD through a youtube reupload, and it's as good as some of the best entries that I've encountered while browsing through EVERY mad uploaded to nicovideo over the past 4 or so months, sort of puts things into perspective. When I have time, I'm planning to write something to trawl through various MAD reuploaders' youtube channels and dl entries that I don't already have . Most of them have shit taste but I think there's at least somewhat of a quality selection bias with the content people are incensed to upload, so the return might be higher.

Basically, given any channel that I've already selected as being worthy, I'm trying to write an algorithm that returns MADs that I don't already have.
For now, I was thinking: given a channel I've deemed as worthy, iterate through all videos, using regex (might not be necessary, i'd primarily be looking for the 7-8 digit video ID, which is reasonable evidence of a reupload, but this may or may not be presented in different forms) to try to find a match for video ID in the video description. if video ID is found then search mysql db for a match, if none is found, dl video. Failing that, try to look for a reasonable match of the video title against one of my db entries (this is tricky, since it doesn't need to be an exact match to be the same video, but even having the same title isn't necessarily strong indication of being the same video).
Given the fact that I've selected the channels in advance, the channels' content will have a propensity towards being MADs, but there's no certainty here either, and if I could think of a way to reliably sort MADs from non-MADs, that would be another major time and resource saver.

as you may know, I've put a a substantial number of MADs up for download on /otomad/ (topmost thread), but this represents a very small subset of my overall collection of MADs, and actually a pretty small subset even among the videos that I'd consider to be good.
My goal is to archive all of the MADs on nicovideo, and beyond that, who can say?
I'd gladly release the tools that I've used to archive as many MADs as I have (when I'm done with them), but beyond that, where's the need? If people want to see all of the MADs that exist, they have the ability to do so. Wouldn't people rather decide for themselves which content is significant?
image on the right is a screenshot of my side project, which I'm writing to help me sort through my MADs, written in php/js/css/html (and so running in the browser). All information that's displayed is stored locally. Information like file paths to thumbnails/videos (for embedding, see top middle), number of views, tags, and so on, were all taken from my mysql db.
The interface is shitty (I'm not a designer) but the functionality is there.
In the top right, from left to right, top to bottom:

>ranking of uploaders by number of videos labeled as "good" in this format: <uploader name> (<number of videos marked as good>) in desc order by # of good videos
>All years and months for which I have entries that were uploaded in that year and month
Any combination of the above can be selected in order to change the videos displayed in the video bar on the bottom. For example, I could choose the tag "音MAD", the topmost uploader, from 2016 December.
>the radio buttons refer to whether to display videos that have been marked as "seen" (another database value)
>dropdown menu: which value to sort by (if any)
Any combination of the above can be used, or none at all.
In the middle, under the video embed:
>the "mark as good" button will mark the embedded video as "good" in its database entry, and move the embedded video to the "good" subdirectory from wherever that file is located (my sorting pattern for tags goes like: /Nicovideo/Tag/(tag name)(year - month)/. This is somewhat awkward, and it's an indication of how much my process has changed over time (when I started, I had no mysql); with records of each video in the mysql, this sorting pattern probably isn't necessary, and I've ended up having to solve a lot of problems that were of my creation to begin with. Still, the redundant file path patterns and mysql records saved me a lot of headaches when I realized that my db insertions were off. This is done with ajax, there are no page refreshes. I wanted it to be as responsive as possible.
>"Mark as significant": this is just another category that I use to label things with, generally for videos that aren't MADs but have good songs, MADs that only have good visuals, and so on.

How would I more easily develop a GUI to help me browse through all of my MADs? As far as I could tell, this represented the path of least resistance. As for being a masochist, I'm doing this without version control, and I started with not even knowing that I had to use firebug to troubleshoot JS (I'd troubleshoot javascript errors by commenting out individual lines).
If you were wondering whether this would be used to allow access to my collection from others, no. Many more things would need to be considered, and the design would take on a different form, if I was to try to design a website for them.
The awkwardness of my merge sort implementation stemmed from what I was using it to do, but it's fixed now. I was using it to sort an array of index numbers while comparing the element value for that index in an array, and then iterating through the array, pushing the element value onto a new array for those indices, and setting the old array equal to the new array. Why did I do this? I had several different arrays whose indices were meant to correspond, so I couldn't just sort one array. For whatever reason, I hadn't thought of just defining a new key and value for the indices in a single array. The explanation probably doesn't make sense, just know that I made some pretty poor initial design decisions.

Bad content inspires more bad content. see: almost all gachimuchi inspired by forsen, most gachimuchi on bilibili. This is in addition to the fact that most of the truly good content doesn't get the recognition that it deserves, and an excessive amount of bad content does get recognition. A lot of the best works I've seen are ridiculously obscure, even on nicovideo. They get no attention, and yet a significant portion of highly-viewed works are garbage. If we're to agree that recognition (in the form of views) is a form of validating an author's work, then by reuploading shit videos to youtube, we encourage them to continue.
For a lot of people, their only view of nicovideo is what they see reuploaded on youtube (by reuploaders with shit taste, no less). Whatever superficial view they're getting, it's mostly garbage. To be fair, nico is mostly garbage, but I think that the reuploader has a special obligation not to upload shit content. It's unreasonable to expect most viewers to trudge through mountains of shit to find the good content, but it isn't unreasonable to rely on a small group of very passionate autists to sort through the content and then reupload the best entries. That way, anyone can see the best that nicovideo has to offer with a minimal time investment. Ricemaster has shit taste, and by reuploading his shit videos he wastes everyone's time (whether they know it or not).

My challenge lately has been figuring out how to, given a set of tags associated with a MAD, attempting to determine my probability of liking it.
My last feature involved taking subsets of the set of tags associated with an entry, finding all entries associated with that subset of tags, and unioning that set with the set of entries associated with each other subset of tags, where each subset is a combination of the tag set of cardinality n. If this produces a set of entries of cardinality greater than some arbitrary number i define, like 10, then I calculate the probability of entries in that set being good, and use that as my feature, otherwise I try the union of all sets associated with combinations of size n-1, n-2, and so on. My intuition was that, if an entry can be best described as being A, B, C, D, E, and F, then looking at the probability of entries which are also A, B, C, D, E, and F would probably be most relevant to the probability of the entry whose quality we're trying to determine being good, provided that a sufficient number of entries can be described under these terms. Failing that, entries which can be described as A, B, C, D, E, or B, C, D, E, F, or A, B, C, D, F, and so on would be the most relevant.
This worked okay, there was a clear disparity between the average of the set associated with good entries and nongood entries; but if something can be described as A, B, C, D, E, and the set of entries associated with combinations of size 5 doesn't yield a set of sufficient cardinality, then we'll find it in the set of entries associated with the size 4 combinations, but given that it's associated with 5 of the 6 tags, shouldn't it be given higher weight?
My new strategy is, given the shape parameters characterizing the beta distribution of tags whose associated entries, among only what I've seen, is of cardinality n or greater (I used 50, moving from 10 to 50 had a minimal effect on the shape parameters so whatever), calculating the expected value of "good" given the tag (which will be the mean of qualities in that tag's set), and then summing the expectations. Since I'm using a beta distribution, tags whose set only contains one good entry (so one of one is good) won't have the same weight as a tag with 26/26 good entries. I guess this would be assuming independence of tags, which isn't a safe assumption since some tags are typically grouped, but whatever. I think I'll also assign a negative weight to entries that I've seen but didn't like, so that, for example, a tag with a really shitty set of entries could outweigh/cancel out the positive contribution of anther weakly positive tag, rather than simply contributing nothing to metric. I'm still thinking about the problem.
I was also interested in using something like a "bag of words" approach on the descriptions from nico, but I guess that doesn't really work well with moon runes, they aren't delimited by a specific character. Or is each character a word? Idk tbh redpill me on japanese please
