Any self-improvement otaku here?

After a dream I had in which I saw a goddess from a time long gone fade away, I decided to stop being such a wimp and strive to become a "true man". Since then I've been trying my best to become as skillful, educated, athletic and righteous as I possibly can, all while still being the same nerdy person I've always been. My most notable achievements until now are: learning how to cook, being able to do pull-ups and trying my best to fight off my masturbation habits.

I hope you mean through long term damage, not suicide. 8jp has had enough suicide. Though adding yourself to the pile may count as 'productive', personally, I really don't want that to happen.

yes

A year ago I had never worked, but now I have two (essentially) full-time jobs. I guess that in itself doesn't sound like much of a success story, but my work is so meaningful that I enjoy things more now than when I was a NEET.

Every day I try to read 10-50 pages of something useful, primarily technical stuff (have to learn constantly in my field), but I'm also trying to learn proper nutrition/meditation techniques/various other things.

My days are full of purpose. I'm filled with a strong resolve to become the best version of myself.

I've come up with another potential method for manipulating myself.

I could try to divide all my daily activities into "constructive" and "destructive" and allocate certain amounts of points to them.

Then I keep track of my daily score and attempt to turn my selfimprovement into a game.

I'll probably give that up really quickly though

Then the depression hits and it all slowly falls away. You end up further behind from where you started.lolicon english

I personally count it as 2 points in the way I do things (each 50 counts as 1), but I'd like to hear how others score things. Maybe then we can decide on a shared scoring system.

I think it's relative. If the goal is self-improvement rather than just straight productivity, then you should compare it to your average self.

For some, just getting out of bed is a miracle. 10 push-ups for such a person would be crazy.

But for others, no push-ups would score anything without proper form.

It's kind of silly to share a scoring system for that.

Personally I put 30 minutes of sport at 20 points in a system where most other positive things give me 10 points. Most negative things give me -10 points, except mastutbation which is at -20.

I guess I could do 100 sit ups in 30 minutes.

I consider masturbation a positive.

It's good for the heart, means you still have a libido, and you're actually willing to do something.

It exercises the mind with fantasy, brings pleasure.

It's not always destructive.

If it makes you completely lethargic afterwards, then there's some underlying problem.

Likely dietary, to be honest. Since semen production takes a lot of nutrients out of you. I'd recommend much more protein and choline.

You could even make it a hobby with a million toys and techniques. I've spent maybe $3k on toys, countless hours on research, done thousands of kegels. Not once have I considered this a waste.

I have enough control over my anal sphincter to massage my prostate by muscle alone. THAT IS AWESOME.

Co-workers were always impressed by all that. Only mentioned in relevant conversation, of course.

For my masturbation is something completly different.

When I enter a certain state of arousement I feel like I'm losing all control, like I'm a monster on a hunt for poor defenseless prey. It's like my lust turns me into a disgusting merciless copy of myself, a mental state that I refuse to embrace.

It's the opposite of the kind of person I want to be, so everytime I end up being too weakwilled to resist this addiction of mine I fall into an abyss of selfloathe and depression afterwards(which leads to more masturbation)

todays score: masturbated so much that I wanna die

It sounds like you just keep going but nothing is actually satisfying you or matching your sexual desires.

You can be both kind and lustful.

Try masturbating to vanilla romance stories instead of forceful porn.

Instead of being a rampaging monster, picture yourself as gentle and sweet.

Wrap your arms around her from behind, rub only her stomach. Nuzzle her neck and feel her squirm. Breathe onto her ear, slowly inch toward nibbling on it. Whisper sweet nothings.

Fantasize something like that.

Take your time and get comfortable, don't just race to orgasm.

Actually find release, rather than just a single short rush to tire you out. Let it come upon you rather than chasing it.

That sounds like incredibly effeminate advice, now that I think of it. But whatever.

I'm honestly happy for you if this works for you, but I actually don't have much of an interest in imagining myself with someone else, neither in real life nor in 2D.

To me masturbation is all about the hunt and not about satisfying unfilled desires

A dry alcoholic is still an alcoholic, and it only takes so much to tip the scale and relapse, doesn't it? From a quick glance at the no-fappers makes it an easy generalisation to make. It'd be better to be in control of a weakness like that.

Most addictions are that way, yeah.

If you don't find a replacement, you will never get over it. Cravings don't just go away.

Indeed, the best course is to find something you can control. Whether it is the addiction itself, or a replacement for it.

I was on day 6 of not fapping yesterday and I could feel my body trying to give in. Today I had another idea for selfimprovement. I was noticing that most of the time my body and mind are just in autopilot mode, and I was thinking that this might be a reason why I have such a hard time fighting bad habits.

So today for most of the day I tried to put conscious effort into every single thing I usually do without thinking about, I tried to make every single movement of my body run through my mind before doing it. It slowed me down quite a bit, it felt like I was relearning how to walk and it left me exhausted mentally, but I think it might work out.

Also, I never noticed before how many times a day my body itches and I scratch it without even thinking. I tried to exert control over my breathing and my blinking reflex too, but that was too bothersome so I'll leave that on automode for now

It's day 3 of my little experiment, and I gotta say that whenever I manage to pull it off I feel empowered. It feels like I am piloting a giant rigid mech and have slow but full control over it. Kinda like trying move around a character in a videogame. I've become much more aware to the things in my body and my surroundings. Sometimes I go into manual mode and still end up doing things unconsciously. I then think "damn, why did my body do that? This isn't what I wanted".
