It's simple. Dumbshitposts are boring. Cargo culting invokes you don't understand is boring. When dumb shitposter post no one besides dumb shitposter are interested in responding. On other boards with higher traffic this can create a feedback effect where enough shitposting will draw people in simply for shitposting.
Most small boards such as this require a username dedicated enough to a single interest that self contained discussion of the topic. If they are a general interest discussion board then interesting posts are what encourage discussion. Clever shitposting draws further discussion. This leads to the development of native culture allowing further and more nuanced posting.
If you wish for more traffic and a higher quality of said traffic the simplest and most expedient method is through consistent and rigorous self examination. Before you post I ask that you ask yourself each of the following questions before you post.

I really, really would love to be a more active poster, but after having spent so much time here, some people can tell your posting style apart from others'. And when everything that you had to say has already been said, well, you either don't have anything else to say or you just repeat your same opinions and thoughts with slightly different wording in different threads. Both of these things - your posting style and your personal views - compromise anonymity if you are an active poster. Other users will realize patterns and assign you a persona, which makes it very unpleasant and very embarrassing to remain an active poster if you're not into attention whoring. At least that's how I feel about it.
