Yeah, it may make you more versatile on a resume, but then comes the question of why did you devote your time towards those studies instead of studying something actually useful or of more interest to you? And why, specifically, Japanese? Learning French, German, or Portuguese would be of more use to you. Even falling for the meme that "Everyone is learning Spanish" would open some opportunities. Because learning something of more use to me means I won't get a satisfying adventure of learning completely different perspectives. As far as I'm aware, the western ideas present in English as still present in Europe. Whereas with Japanese there are different ways of looking at life and I like the idea of picture words (Kanji) than I do of English, after all "A picture is worth a thousand words"

I would make a comparison to English being used by self-hating liberals, but I think it would be more fair to say that a language is like a tool used for both good and evil, depending on who uses it and what for. Keep in mind also that the younger generation may not even be like their grandparents.
