because the body tends to turn carbs directly into fat if the carbs aren't used. If you're eating alot of carbs then sleeping immediately, all you're doing is converting them pretty much instantly into fat cells because you're not using those carbs.

340bfa No.150016 [Open Thread]

just recently I started lifting in my home to try and do something productive for a change. the only equipment I have right now is a pretty decent set of dumbbells and a bench.

I formed up some loose and highly unorganized routine which I stuck to for around 2 weeks before i wanted to make something better. I have around no experience with making routines whatsoever so I just strung in a bunch of random workouts for muscle groups on certain days. I stuck with the new routine for around 2 weeks until I realized how fucking retarded it was, for example I had an arm day with 4 workouts for my biceps and 3 for my triceps, and for each exercise I did 3 sets and sometimes added an extra set if I felt I didn't do enough. I did not have any specific rep count either so I went off a generalization of getting somewhere in the range of 6 - 12, but my main goal for every set was to reach failure. I had 4 workout days per week in my routine and each day took me about 2 hours to complete. as for any progress I did not really notice many changes, however I feel like my traps did get slightly bigger and my arms possible got very slightly bigger as well. at the very least I did get better at proper form in workouts.

right now I am looking for a dumbbell only routine to stick to and I haven't found much. Its been around 4 days since ive worked out and im asking for any worthwhile help or advice, especially a routine since im absolute dog shit at making them myself

yes i have read the sticky

ive also got another question, when completing sets should I never go for failure and only go up to 1 - 2 reps away from failure, or are there certain times when going to failure is acceptable such as completing the last set.

That's up to the individual's taste. I'll only attempt muscle failure when I decide to do an extra set with added weight on the second day of each workout group.

Ex. Thursday was day four and it felt right to add to the bench press. 10 lbs added plus an additional set of 6 reps. At the end of the fourth day of the next cycle if I feel like I'll do the same for my squat our deadlift, whichever feels best.

I'm a fat man losing weight by alternating between weightlifting and cardio. I've already lost 5 kg and gained a bit of muscle, so it's all working.

My diet is 180g of protein and 30g of fat (+1 multivitamin). Protein makes me feel full and it's actually difficult to eat enough of it. I haven't been eating any carbs, which the bodybuilding forums disapprove of for no clear reasons. The only argument I've found is that it lowers my metabolism. I'm not going hungry, nor am I missing energy for my workout/day. If I have to eat some I'll go for oatmeal, but I don't want to, so I'll only do it if it's necessary.

Is it actually unhealthy not to eat carbs in my case? Is it actually counterproductive to my fat loss efforts?

I'll also add that your body needs carbs and protein to build muscle mass, especially carbs. People on the low-carb diets are just wasting away rather than losing fat. Carbs help you preserve your muscle mass while you lose fat. The number on the scale may go down at a slower rate, but at least you're lost the numbers from the right source

And stay away from processed food, especially bread even if it's whole grain. They load their shit with all kinds of sugar. If you're gonna get commercial bread, go for Ezekiel's or Dave's Killer Bread, though I prefer the former's low sodium variety.

You need carbs to live.

- carbs create water weight helping your muscles look bigger and you can drink less water

- carbs will make you hungry all day long which allows you to develop willpower to overcome cravings

- carbs help you shit more which provides more regular shitting

Obviously there are good carbs and bad carbs. Bad carbs are things like gluten, fat, sugar, sodium, heavy metals. Good carbs are things like fibre, glycogen, threonine, aspartame.

I do a variation of HIIT in the lap pool on non-lifting days. My current regimen is as follows:

>8 lengths at about 50% intensity to warm up

<Interval 1 - repeat 4 times

>1 length at 100%

>1 length at 60%

<Interval 2 - repeat 3 times

>2 lengths at 100%

>1 length at 60%

<Interval 3 - repeat 2 times

>4 lengths at 100%

>2 lengths at 60%

>Walk the length of the pool until you've recovered

>Do it again

I look silly doing this next to people doing endurance training but idgaf. I have adjusted this plan to correspond to my fitness level. You might need to do more or less. That said, when properly adjusted to your fitness level, I don't think there's a better way to do HIIT training (or any cardio exercise for that manner) than in the lap pool. High-intensity swimming is so much better than doing intense polymetric / CrossFit dumbfuckery and injuring yourself.

If the weather's nice, biking. I have a 4-mile route around my neighborhood that has lots of hills and such. I bike it for time. If I'm going really full-steam on highest gear, I can do it in about 23 minutes (I'm on a cheapo heavy-ass mountain bike, for context). Doing this daily is the only I have ever had visible abs in my life.

If I'm in the gym: walking on a treadmill at about 2.8-3.0 mph, on an incline of at least 10-12. Even just ten minutes of this shit will make you sweat. I've done it for 30-45 minutes a few times and looked like I just took a shower. Doesn't sound like much but it's great and doesn't involve pounding your joints like running does.

In Arnold's Enclyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding, he says:

"Without sufficient intake of water, you become dehydrated. Your body begins to retain water to protect itself, and much of this water is stored subcutaneously, which smooths out the muscular definition dramatically.

"Retained water becomes contaminated because your kidneys can't filter out contaminants properly…. the liver is then called upon to help… which interferes with one of its main functions, breaking down body fat. So without sufficient water in your body you're likely to end up water-logged, bloated, and obese…" (pg. 714-715)

In terms of muscular growth, exercising every muscle group everyday but a small number of sets is better than doing more sets on specific days of the week to keep the muscle rest?

My goal is to reach 10 sets for every muscle group every week and I ask you how it would be more efficient: 1 set daily for 4 days and 2 sets for the other 3 or 3 sets for the upper/lower body everyday (alternating)

I have dumbbells at home so I don't have to change my schedule for going to the gym

Each day 10 sets ( or as many as you can) for 1 or 2 mucle groups would be a better idea. The goal is to "break" the muscle during one training, not slighty tiring it every day.

I just posted a lengthy reply about this on the "rest" thread. https://8kun.top/fit/res/149462.html#q149996

Daily reminder that lifting naturally is a waste of time and effort in modern times. All that effort and for what? There is barely any changes in hypertrophy and strength lifting naturally compared to using steroids. Just hop on TRT or steroids guys, dont miss out on life.

Or this? To anyone arguing about health benefit, unless you roid up like a retard like Zyzz and dont consult with a proper doctor, you are going to live a reasonably healthy life.
