I am afraid of going back to the gym, I did starting strength for a months and my outer hips hurt. I couldn't walk or sit for 3 months (well I limped) the physical therapist told me I should swim more. I had two cortisone shots. one on my knee and one picture related. I am not sure what caused it I woke up on a Monday morning in pain. I don't have any pain but cortisone shots are expensive as shit and don't want to go though that ordeal anymore.

Call me a fuccboi, but rather than lifting with 1-2 minutes of rest between a sets I lift in a circuit / CrossFit style to shorten workout times and to have cardio come as a by-product of eating ass and lifting fast

I do a variation of HIIT in the lap pool on non-lifting days. My current regimen is as follows:

>8 lengths at about 50% intensity to warm up

<Interval 1 - repeat 4 times

>1 length at 100%

>1 length at 60%

<Interval 2 - repeat 3 times

>2 lengths at 100%

>1 length at 60%

<Interval 3 - repeat 2 times

>4 lengths at 100%

>2 lengths at 60%

>Walk the length of the pool until you've recovered

>Do it again

I look silly doing this next to people doing endurance training but idgaf. I have adjusted this plan to correspond to my fitness level. You might need to do more or less. That said, when properly adjusted to your fitness level, I don't think there's a better way to do HIIT training (or any cardio exercise for that manner) than in the lap pool. High-intensity swimming is so much better than doing intense polymetric / CrossFit dumbfuckery and injuring yourself.

If the weather's nice, biking. I have a 4-mile route around my neighborhood that has lots of hills and such. I bike it for time. If I'm going really full-steam on highest gear, I can do it in about 23 minutes (I'm on a cheapo heavy-ass mountain bike, for context). Doing this daily is the only I have ever had visible abs in my life.

If I'm in the gym: walking on a treadmill at about 2.8-3.0 mph, on an incline of at least 10-12. Even just ten minutes of this shit will make you sweat. I've done it for 30-45 minutes a few times and looked like I just took a shower. Doesn't sound like much but it's great and doesn't involve pounding your joints like running does.

In Arnold's Enclyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding, he says:

"Without sufficient intake of water, you become dehydrated. Your body begins to retain water to protect itself, and much of this water is stored subcutaneously, which smooths out the muscular definition dramatically.

"Retained water becomes contaminated because your kidneys can't filter out contaminants properly…. the liver is then called upon to help… which interferes with one of its main functions, breaking down body fat. So without sufficient water in your body you're likely to end up water-logged, bloated, and obese…" (pg. 714-715)

In terms of muscular growth, exercising every muscle group everyday but a small number of sets is better than doing more sets on specific days of the week to keep the muscle rest?

My goal is to reach 10 sets for every muscle group every week and I ask you how it would be more efficient: 1 set daily for 4 days and 2 sets for the other 3 or 3 sets for the upper/lower body everyday (alternating)

I have dumbbells at home so I don't have to change my schedule for going to the gym

I stopped doing that two months ago, and I still get extremely tired after eating carbohydrates such as bread, pasta or rice. Even resistant starches which do not spike insulin make me tired. I'm getting increasingly anxious that sticking to low-carb, fasting and keto routine for so long has broken my metabolism or gut microbiomes or both irreversibly because I'm not seeing signs of any improvements.

Hello anons. Ive been thinking about how injuries from exercise happen, i think the 2 main ways to get them are:

1. trying to increase the difficulty/weight too quickly

2. using gym mashines that force you to move in a "locked range of motion" (look it up)

I really dont want to get injured, so to solve these problems ill probably:

1. increase the weight/difficulty of the exercise that i am doing when i can do 30 repetitions of it (instead of 12 repetitions). this gives my body time to adjust to the new higher weight.

2. avoid most gym equipment. there's hundreds of exercises that you can do with your bodyweight and barbells anyway.

You're onto something. Keep at it.

Avoiding machines is generally good advice, but they have their uses. 30 reps is an awful lot, and you'll likely hit a plateau really quickly. Don't be afraid to lift heavier sooner, just remember to listen to your body and don't sacrifice form for more weight. Work on your mobility and make sure to warm up before your working sets.

You're going to make it!

Preventing injuries:

Stretching before (and after, if you can make yourself) seriously helps a LOT. It might seem like a waste of time but trust me lads. Especially if I'm about to do some heavy leg stuff….. stretch hamstrings, adductors, glutes, quads (which will also all stretch your lower back) and you'll be a lot less prone to injury. Stretching your abs and serratus muscles are good, too.

As far as increasing weight - I feel like I am ready to move up when what once was my upper limit starts to become very doable. I then do maybe a half-set with something only five or ten pounds heavier. If I've been doing sets of 10, just try 5 of something a little heavier. See how it goes. If it's going good, continue those 5 into a set of 10. Maybe do another set if you feel like it's going well. If it's really damn hard, just do 5 and say "cool, I did five of something heavier!" Gradual is key. There is no rush.

Serious question, is it?

I've heard a low carb diet helps lower insulin which supposedly helps lower fat? I mean I'm certain I won't be able to get rid of my belly without finally working out abs but every little thing counts right? I mean I won't even lower my carbs that much by cutting out the parts I will, I'll still consume 80 carbs or so a day because of milk and other food. I'm just looking to get carb free bread. Is this actually serious or will i just be fucking myself even more?

Carbs are good so long as they're of the complex variety. Whole grains, brown rice, steel cut oats, potatoes, corn, etc. Steer clear of anything made from processed grains like white flour, white rice, white pasta, etc.

I've lost 98 pounds since this past May 2019 and have been eating shit meals like this while maintaining a consistent daily loss of 3 lbs per week. I'm at the final stretch of my diet now, though, and it's very hard to lose weight, so I've had to cut back to tiny portions to build a deficit.

No it's too restrictive to do for literally the rest of your life to remain in ketosis. Just eat high protein and fiber to reduce your desire for as many carbs and or count calories.

There are loads of exercises you can do at home with zero equipment. use invidio.us or hooktube.com to view youtube without the bloat and just follow some nice fun workout guides with total bro-tier trainer bros or workout-thots teaching you how to kick ass without even paying a penny for a membership to a gym we're all gonna fucking skip anyway.

don't walk to the gym, it's not healthy breathing in car fumes. you can easily count over 400 cars passing you buy in even a short walk depending on your area.

Good advice. Remember, the best routine is the one you stick to.

Probably never having abs like pic related. Probably never going to be physically in shape, let alone healthy. I tried. I'm getting tired of it now.

>hardly ever go to the gym

>still the same as always

I feel like I should cancel my gym membership and just resign myself to video games and bullshit like I always have before.

I used to feel a bit disappointed with the leg raise progression from convict conditioning so I started doing some planks, and I feel it's made for a stronger core of mine. Do planks, try some leg raises or crunches.

You won't get really defined abs until you're at a low body fat % though which means somewhat advanced dieting. Personally I'm more than happy with a stone slab for a gut but I can see the appeal of washboards. Best of luck anon.
