Should I be heavier?

bw 150 - 420/280/220 for main lifts

That sounds pretty impressive for a newbie lifter of 1 1/2 years (counting corona maintenance) but I want more. It feels like I just don't have enough sheer muscle mass to move more weight and what muscle mass I have is already at my genetic max for strength. It's like a mental barrier

Prolly just stupid plateau fatalism and broscience. Anyone got some real facts to get my through bench day tomorrow?

You should get your squat up to your deadlift, and your bench up to 315, then add 5 lbs of muscle.

You need to change up your routine. Do you do power cleans? Military press? Sprint? Do you train wrist curls and extensions, and pronation, suppination? You should do asymmetric deadlifts, 'shovel lifts', rack pulls, and an exercise where you hold the barbell just off the ground in deadlift position for an extended period of time, say 2 minutes- using 95 lbs to start out with if you lack endurance. Once a week do the Supersquat method - 20 reps 1 set, heavy as fuck. Isometrics are important as well. You do rotator cuff work? Face pulls? Pull ups? Reverse pseudo-planche? Ab wheel? Cable wood choppers? Do you do throws (sandbag, keg)? Long distance carries (shoulder carry, yoke stand, vest, farmer's carry, one or more of)? The long distances carries and asymmetric lifts are a big one.

150 is underweight. pump up to 200lbs at least. dunno how tall you are but even if you're 5' 8" i'd still shoot for 225 or higher. you've also got a massive discrepancy between what im assuming is your deadlift and squat. its not unusual for a 40 or so lbs difference but 140lbs is just ridiculous. either your form is bad or you're not trying hard enough on it and need to gain weight

I personally get more of a pump from lifting heavier weights, so I just cut it to 5 reps (3 sets) so I can lift 2x heavier weights.

For you, it's about comparing yourself to yourself; not about someone who has been lifting for 3 years straight and tries to poke fun out of a sense of insecurity.

I'm on the full rollar work out and it's doing wonders.

Basically you attach Rollars to each limb and try to make your way around at least 4 city blocks, for me it's fairly decent but I often have to do push flexes (Where you move more like a dog than a horse in your four legged rollar moves)

You got this but do not make the same mistake I did when trying to lift and Rollar. TAKE THEM OFF YOUR HANDS FIRST. I only made this mistake once but will never forget.

Is rest a necessary requirement for gains/growth?

Or is it okay to not take 3 days off? I ask "3" because I usually hear people say 4 on 3 off. I like to do 5 of 7 in a week with the two off days just randomly interspersed when I can't get off my lazy ass.

Also. I'm a newfag to /fit/ in general;

How long should it take to see big gains in bench press?

I'm a weakfag and only did 6 sets of 95 yesterday. Could likely do a set of 110-115? if I started with just that and was done.

set = 12 reps

How quickly could I reasonably expect to hit 150 pounds from 95lbs?

Rest is really important.

I really love training, like I fuckin love going to the gym and seeing my buddies and pumping iron. I have to make myself take days off, though, because training every day will definitely set you back… you get sore, but more importantly, you get weak.

I have found that only training legs twice a week (one day for bar squats, another day for everything else - various machine presses, etc) actually gives me more gains than an every-other-day approach. Same with upper body. Really the only thing I do every gym session is abs, and that's to keep my back healthy more than anything.

Everybody is different, but for me personally, two days of legs and two days of upper body (big compound movements that hit multiple big muscles) and really giving it your all is much more effective than a half-ass daily workouts.

Rest days can include walks and biking - I usually do my cardio on "rest" days. Just no weights.

tl;dr: rest is just as important (if not more) than training.

Contrary to popular belief you do not gain muscle at all when you are working out. You only gain muscle during the recovery period. I advise that you stretch after your workout and take the Wim Hofs course if you want to accelerate your muscle gain.

Is the ratio between my total and free testosterone normal? It seems to be very high. I've always heard that your free testosterone should be roughly 2% of your total testosterone however mine is like 26% of my total T. Unfortunately I don't have metrics for my other related hormones as that wasn't part of the test.

Nah you're fine, you're technically in range it could be higher i guess since your testosterone is above range. But yeah for some reason your test results are in pg/mL instead of ng/dL which if you convert would put you at 31 pg/dL.

Very impressive test levels if you're natty btw !

Would you rather call the doctor? It can be normal for you. It depends on the person. All people have a different amount of hormones. You should check your health condition and discuss it with a doctor. If you don't lift for a purpose which transcends yourself you will never truly make it. It will only lead to the delusion of self aggrandizement coupled with the failure of never breathing life into something so that it may live on after you. For every man has two deaths. The first being when his spirit passes on, and the second when no one remembers his name.

To live in the moment is what it means to be alive yet it is the most destructive power we allow ourselves to wield. Usually without preparation. Lifting is not a means to an end but rather to the doorway which grants opportunity. Do you step through, and continue onwards to glory or become stagnant thinking all that has been done is all that there is? Do you unlock the door for which you hold the key?

To throw away the gifts you have bestowed upon yourself for the epicurean indulgence of today or for the fear of further success is one of the greatest self induced tragedies as mans greatest burden is unfulfilled potential. Done either consciously or unconsciously but more consciously than we'd like to admit.

With your new goals created be lucid of their scope. For when you reach your goal you are on the top of the mountain you yourself created, with no where left to go but down. Some individuals are blessed with the ability to create a new, higher peak to the one they just reached however those people are rare, and it would be foolish to count yourself as one of them. Rather it is best to create a mountain whereby you cannot climb it in your lifetime. Climbing for eternity is preferable to a death before death.

This may not be what you want to hear but need to.

OP, I fully agree with the first poster in that I think you're delusional. Do you really think there aren't hardworking people in history who died and were forgotten by the history books and forgotten by their great granchildren and beyond?

I can respect the notion that one should lift weights for something beyond merely fornicating with women but pursuing glory will most likely fail as you can't really guarantee that those who glorify you today, if any do, will glorify you in the future. Take a moment to consider all of the entertainers like comedians and musicians who were in the limelight and are now in the past. I think it's much more reasonable to lift simply to maximise your health so it doesn't deteriorate whilst you pursue your hobbies, so you can better enjoy your hobbies and also to avoid the fate of being an old person in a retirement home. There's plenty of families that just dump their old parents in a retirement home or at a hospital door (see: "granny dumping") so that dream scenario of the children and grandchildren all gathered around the ailing, dying grandparent whilst he passes into the next life is going to always merely be a work of fiction for the majority of people in the West. It'd be much wiser to, anticipating the undesirable burden you'll impose, maintain a diet and exercise regimen and maintain it into old age.

You'll also set a good example for your children as they learn your lesson about trying to stay out of the retirement home because there's no guarantee that their children will care for you in old age and they'll do the same. I think this is a practise the Non-Christian family should adopt.

In a nutshell, I agree with you that one should set themself a great goal to work towards so that they're always working on something but one shouldn't strive for nor expect glory. If you become glorious, it should be like Elon Musk where your glory is simply because you're pursuing your, albeit greatly expensive in Elon's case, hobbies.

Pursue the unlocking of your potential. If you're so good at your hobbies that you become renown for it, that's great but I thinkPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Your first death is the only one that matters; it's not like you'll be there to see yourself be remembered. And both are inevitable anyway.

It all sounds nice and glorious or whatever, but it's simply taking yourself too seriously, and prioritizing things you'll never achieve is just self-defeating.

Once you get bigger than Brad Pitt in Fight Club, you're lifting for yourself (or other dudes). Girls want you to be V-shaped with broad shoulders/chest and narrow waist, but guys when surveyed want to be about 25-30 lbs more jacked than girls consider ideal.

That's not a bad thing, they'll still like your abs or biceps, it just has diminishing returns to your general attractiveness once you've met the V-shape that they instinctually look for as a sign of masculine health.

So lift because it makes you feel invincible, gives you energy, and gives you a better chance of surviving attacks. The ferals you're most likely to encounter attack in packs and sucker punch from behind, so be able to toss them around like rag dolls.
