Parsecs works as a measurement of time. Here's why:

Anyone who knows what a parsec is (3.26 light years) knew Han wasn't bullshitting, and was telling Luke and Obi-wan, that he navigated the falcon through the Deep Core and thus a shit-ton of Black Holes in the shortest distance anyone was recorded to have done it, without dying, in effect telling you that he could navigate Hyperspace better than anyone in the Galaxy. 12 parsecs is 3.26 light years. Han is a fucking speed demon and not a bullshitter or some "short distance" expert like the shitty Solo film would have you believe. Eat it Disneyfags and suck it naysayers who claim Han was bullshitting.

It wasn't the Deep Core, it was the Maw.

Also, the original intent was that he was bullshitting, Obi-wan's reaction reflects this. I don't mind the later explanation the EU went with but it's part of the greater trend in post-OT material sanitizing Han, just like Greedo shooting first, the A.C. Crispin books having Han as a generally idealistic guy until he gets screwed over on Ylesia, and Solo's plot dealing with fuel instead of drugs.

I don't know about any drug plots or anything like that, but let's not forget that he did a bunch of selfless shit during the original trilogy. Notably when he showed up to help with the death star, putting him and his ship in grave danger. I'm not saying this in order to justify any other gay shit, I'm just reminding you he's supposed to be somewhat reluctantly good.

>I'm just reminding you he's supposed to be somewhat reluctantly good.

That's true, but the whole point of that sequence wasn't that he was started the film "reluctantly good," he was pulled towards there by the events of ANH, and didn't actually find that selflessness within him until the climax of the film.

>>25227

I'm ambivalent, I can see the appeal both ways. While smug bullshitting is definitely in keeping with Han's character, the fact that some turbo-autists not only came up with a plausible justification for "less than 12 parsecs," but actually got it to be deemed C-Canon, is a testament to the EU community.

This is what Disney Wars has to offer in terms of EU.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Tam_Posla

>Tam Posla was an interstellar lawman and later a bounty hunter. Formally representing the Milvayne Authority, he became Milvaynes most celebrated cop. At some point, he investigated a rash of crimes committed by Doctor Cornelius Evazan and Ponda Baba. Though taken off the case by his superior officer, Posla voyaged well beyond his jurisdiction and, determined to bring the criminals to justice, became a bounty hunter.

Pozla appeared in both Rogue One and Solo. In the comics he was revealed to be a homosexual. He was then killed by evil C-3PO.

I see it literally everywhere on the internet, and even occasionally on this very board. You even will have EU fans who claim that the Prequels weren't good, they just spawned a lot of good stuff. This narrative seems incredibly forced.

What are all the complaints people have about them?

>hurrr, the acting is bad

It isn't, though, it's intentionally Shakespearean and given an operatic tone to make the movies timeless.

>DUDE CGI LMAO

The Prequels have countless sets and models in them, it's a testament to how good the CGI is that no one realizes that.

>I don't like Anakin!

Really weird complaint, Anakin is a tragic hero and is case study in what can turn a good man bad. From his horrible mentors in the Jedi after Qui Gon died, to his manipulative new father figure in Palpatine, it all makes sense. You simply disliking Anakin doesn't make him a bad character.

>le jar jar

Nothing Jar Jar does is anywhere near as cringe worthy as the endless pop culture references and quips in modern day films.

So what are the other complaints? Really, because everytime I go back and rewatch the Prequels, I like them more.

>the Republic and the Empire are not very far removed from each other would mean the looks of both should coincide

I don't see it. The Empire's brutalist design aesthetic was probably a conscious choice by the Emperor, similar to what actual fascist and communist regimes would do. Rebels and outlaws use whatever outdated broken junk they can get their hands on.We don't really see the state of planets like Naboo or Coruscant, unless you count their appearence in the Special Editions, where they actually haven't changed a whole lot. You also forget that the PT could look very grimy, when it made sense. The slums of Tatooine look pretty consistant from the PT to the OT. Nothing changes out there.

I would also argue again that it's a fantasy series, and you can bend reality a little, if it helps to set a mood or hammer in a point.

Republic - Grand, sentimental, old and incompetent

Empire - Powerful, unfeeling, efficient

Is shit. Knights of the Old Republic, the comics, the books, the MMO, everything from that time period is awful. The technology makes no sense, the factions are all just ripoffs of stuff from the OT and Prequels. Despite taking place thousands of years before the main series, it doesn't contain a single original concept or idea.

It's no surprise that J.J. Abrams favorite Star Wars content is the Old Republic stuff, it matches The Farce Awakens perfectly. If you're an Old Republic fan, you should feel right at home in Disney War's canon.

Just look at the Republic Troopers, they're literally Clone Troopers. It makes no sense at all. Is it really hard to create original designs?

25,000 years is a hell of a lotta timeline to fill out with stories. Unfortunately some of the more interesting stuff, like the Pious Dea era and the like are pretty sparse in how much exploration they got. At least the KOTOR era got the attention it deserved, even if the MMO screwed it up.

>muh jedi

The only thing that remained unchanged from that era and it makes sense. They continued to ultimately win out in the end and so they stagnate which is the whole point of the Jedi in the Prequel trilogy, they've been allowed to basically sit in their ivory towers in smug self satisfaction for far too long.

>muh sith

The Sith in the Old Republic era are so extremely and fundamentally different you have to be completely dense to unironically act like the Sith vs Jedi conflict is the same from the Old Republic era to the PT era.

>muh mandos

Mandalorians are a borderline non-entity after the Old Republic era even more so if you ignore the shitty MMO and CGI cartoon which brought them back to the forefront as a cohesive group despite everything else making it pretty clear they're been obliterated to never amounting to more than small clans struggling to survive.

Your only genuine gripe is that the Old Republic Era is still high tech and futuristic and while I can understand that argument it's a problem of aesthetics and the writers going overboard with the year to make sure they had plenty of wiggle room to not fuck with other established lore which is understandable.

What is so difficult about creating new factions? You make a new name, and a new backstory, and new motivations, and a new aesthetic, and boom, you're golden. The reason the Prequels were cool is because they had new stuff like the Separatists and the Republic and Naboo, and Kamino, and Mustafar, and a ton of other planets. The opposite of that originality is how you get shit like Jakku, and fucking SWTOR, and the same shit over and over again.

lads, i'm bored. i know on the old board, someone brought up the idea of us re-visiting the EU and doing our own shit, i'd like to attempt to revitalize that idea and form our own comprehensive EU, by picking and choosing the best stuff, leaving out the silly nonsense, and continuing any unfinished storylines, and maybe create some new ones too.

now first, we'll have to compile a definitive list of what's to be our canon. the old rule was that until george made something that would override it, it was basically canon, unless it was like a comic or video game, those were non-canon from the start. however, some of the very best eu material is either a comic or game, so that rule is gonna go out the window and we'll fit in shit where we see fit. also, in the case of say general grievous, we'll obviously go with the shuttle crash and shit like hypori and 2d clone wars (personally i think there exists a possible balance of the 2d and 3d shows).

i know i'm asking a lot since we aren't a very active board, but the last thing i want to do is post this on a pleb board like /tv/ or a pleb fan site like theforce.net, though i'm sure they would be helpful to some extent, i wouldn't want them to have any form of final say or anything.

so, who's down?

Out curiosity, what's your guys' stance on my TOR Separatist Canon thread? I've been trying to make it fit with Legends as much as possible as I'm currently only in the KOTOR-era, (not sure if I'll ever leave it to be honest) and I'm trying less to make my own canon and more to flesh out the bare-bones lore that is the Mando Wars leading into KOTOR proper.

A good policy to have. I think having most of the works be digital will also work to assist good stories not getting thrown out over minor continuity errors. Edits can be made as needed, as long as they're not plot dependent on said errors. Overall, just having an active group of dedicated people discussing the lore assists in providing better quality and consistency of writing.

>>23994

I read through a bit of it. I think it's good idea to focus more on refining the established lore before moving onto creating more to fit into the universe. The ideas being discussed there to fill in some of the gaps seem solid. I need to reacquaint myself with the TOR lore again before I can start discussing it at length. My reason for attempting to expand the lore forward is to both give myself a reasonable era where I can tell a good story and give a lot of free space to other writers to tell better stories and explore subjects they can do justice to. Expanding forward also doesn't interfere with the EU as it was left, so it could be easily discarded or ignored by those who don't feel too much should be added. I am personally opposed to too much tampering with established lore, however, so the ideas in the TOR thread do catch my interest. It seems everything proposed there goes to the service the lore, rather than change or add pointlessly.

As for this thread, I think for the time being, planning more additions to the lore or just trying to refine canon is a good place to continue. I'll try to stay involved and informed for discussion.

Meet… Omi… of the new Disney Canon… She is a stronk, independent and super smart Dianoga (which are now sentient) who can use the force. When her story begins she fights off an evil male Dianoga rapist because her force is just that good. She even foresaw the Death Star exploding! She was then captured by some Vodran hunters who sold her to some stormtroopers who she then killed because she is just that badass. She then freaking drove a spaceship to the death start and made her way into the trash compactor, where she found Han, Luke, Leia and Chewey. She then decided to give them a proper Dianoga baptism, because they could be helpful friends. She was only pretending to try and kill them guys! When Luke escaped, she even sensed that he would bring balance to the Force! She was then reborn as Rey… And idiots like to make fun of the EU because of Skippy the Jedi Droid despite that said shit was just a fucking April Fools story.

THIS IS THE REAL FUCKING DEAL PEOPLE! EVEN THE DEATH STAR'S FUCKING TRASH COMPACTOR DIANOGA WASN'T SAFE!

Yeah, but it was played like how Spartans and Greeks were gay. It made sense. Lots of warrior societies were full of "Gays" but it's very different than the sort of shit we see in media today.

I like to use HelloGreedo's youtube channel viewer count to see the true acceptance of the nu-fandom. In the past few weeks as Resistance has been dropping off so is the other nu stuff, reviews of the Clone Wars episodes have stayed the same. Even that shitty new fallout game has more views than anything Disney on a Star Wars youtube channel.

What are the best stories focusing mainly on Count Dooku? I'm pretty new to this EU stuff, so I kinda wanna start getting into this through him since I liked the character (and pretty much am done with disney) and thought his character could've used way more development in the films and cartoons since he was always just Palpatine's mindless lapdog in said media.

Read the short story "the tenebrous way" by matthew stover. It's a prequel to Plagueis.

also, you should know that Darth Plagueis references and spoils other books, such as "Cloak of Deception" and iirc possibly "Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter" (and possibly some more darth maul short stories). It also references various plotlines from comics such as "Republic" and "Jedi Council - Acts of War".

the short stories were usually released in various star wars magazines. If you want to read them with the artwork as they were printed in the magazines, you can find the magazines themselves and other star wars EU comics and books for free in places like http://libgen.io/.

another good source is

http://www.hungry-ewok.ru/sw/all_books.htm

and this here should be a pretty good starter pack but it could be missing something

https://mega.nz/#F!j99HEbrC!GP5TSEEbrBYZIZ73xod4fg

now if you're worried about the amount of material and what order to read it in or whether you missed some important short story, go here

http://www.starwarstimeline.net/Riseoftheempire.htm

and CTRL + F your way through to make sense of it. Don't worry about splitting books into chapters, that's not necessary (although I admit I've done it a few times on special cases)

if you want to get the most out of "Legacy of the Jedi", I recommend following that through with "Jedi Apprentice". It's for younger readers, but if you think of it as a pre-Phantom Menace TCW with obi-wan and qui-gon aPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

I saw George Lucas at a grocery store in Los Angeles 10 years ago. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?". I was taken aback and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen identical action figures of Jar Jar Binks in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he did the Jedi mind trick with his hand and pretended to be tired and not hear her but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the Jar Jar Binks figures and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each figure and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

What is the most aesthetic control console from the films? For me, it's the Naboo Royal Starship's. What is your favorite? How can we bring these designs into the real world on devices?

Its because that's a Nubian ship, its just very expensive, like all the vessels used by Naboo they were designed by Nubians.

Indeed, the artist on Ep. I was inspried by 50's cars and hood ornaments. Episode II and III the style became more industrial/war. I think the best retro-futuristic aspect of the OT would be Cloud City, but otherwise its mostly the "used universe."

Here's what we get in Episode II. Whether for story or otherwise the retrofuturistic style was replaced with techy.

That's called "iMac" and "Apple gizmos". Real ships are focused on the utilitarian/security aspect.

That's because it was a luxury diplomatic ship, just like those decadent saudi princes palatial jets.
