That would imply "whales swimming around in the vacuum of space" which is far goofier and exactly what Disney made which are now the source of hyperdrive technology. Whaladons however are just sentient whales who live exclusively in the seas of Dac and nowhere else. There are plenty of real life organisms in SW including humans. Having whales exist in some fashion isn't that goofy, the moral and story of the book regarding them was just cringy what with "Save the Whales" (seriously fuck Captain Planet). But in the end, the Whaladons' existence is reasonable (which is probably the only thing that book had going for it) in contrast to what we have now which are literal space fearing octowhales with hyperdrive engines in their asses who can go into hyperspace at will and took Thrawn and Ezra out for a drive with no coverage of any sort. That was far more idiotic. Whaladons were just some hippie "save the whales" shit.

this isn't due to george's movie, it's due to your misinterpreting the movie. obi-wan said the force was the life energy of the universe, that already puts it into a semi-realistic and scientific scale, basically magic dna. it was implied from the get-go that jedi were just folk who took their time to learn to wield it. not to mention the "guardians of peace and justice" had heavy political implications as well.

maybe george didn't realize it back when he wrote the film, but he definitely setup the prequel era then just as much as he did when he started developing the backstory and worldbuilding when writing empire.

Almost everyone in the squadron, including the humans, is there for political reasons as well as for their flying skills. Erisi Dlarit and Bror Jace are there because of their bacta cartel connections. Dealing with political/bureaucratic interference is a big part of the conflict early on in the books. It's an interesting contrast to TLJ, which has the same kind of conflict but tries to make the hotshot pilot wrong and the bureaucratic cunt right (while not really succeeding).

Even an excellent director and writing team would have trouble and probably fail trying to fix this steaming pile of garbage. Disney is better off making TLJ the official conclusion of the marysue series and move on or do whatever one wants retcon the entire thing (TFA & TLJ).

Anytime you have too many jews involved in a movie you get shit like the last two 90's batman therefore I expect the next soywars movie to be Batman and Robin levels of shit without the “it’s so bad it’s funny elements”.
