Well yeah, it's a single story that fills the gap between ESB and RotJ. What made it a big deal back in the day is that it was treated as a "movie release without a movie", i.e. Episode 5.5.
The same story is told in different media with slightly different POVs:
>the novel (most detailed, focus on the movie cast)
>the comic (additional focus on Boba Fett, Vader's spy and the swoop gang)
>the vidya (Dash Rendar's perspective)
>+ a soundtrack and toys
There's also a "mini-EU" of sorts that explores side characters in their own stories:
