 No.1089 [View All]

lads, i'm bored. i know on the old board, someone brought up the idea of us re-visiting the EU and doing our own shit, i'd like to attempt to revitalize that idea and form our own comprehensive EU, by picking and choosing the best stuff, leaving out the silly nonsense, and continuing any unfinished storylines, and maybe create some new ones too.

now first, we'll have to compile a definitive list of what's to be our canon. the old rule was that until george made something that would override it, it was basically canon, unless it was like a comic or video game, those were non-canon from the start. however, some of the very best eu material is either a comic or game, so that rule is gonna go out the window and we'll fit in shit where we see fit. also, in the case of say general grievous, we'll obviously go with the shuttle crash and shit like hypori and 2d clone wars (personally i think there exists a possible balance of the 2d and 3d shows).

i know i'm asking a lot since we aren't a very active board, but the last thing i want to do is post this on a pleb board like /tv/ or a pleb fan site like theforce.net, though i'm sure they would be helpful to some extent, i wouldn't want them to have any form of final say or anything.

so, who's down?

I agree. Every other template seems to be transferring alright, so let me run a few tests on my talk page. I've been trying to fix this problem, too.

I thought I fixed it, but no. Apparently the {{{images|}}} infocell is the cause of the problem. Removing it removes the error but altering it breaks the whole template.

I have to admit, anon, this is literal hell. Everything I've tried is a big fat goose egg. I gotta go for a tad, but I'm thinking about checking the character template to see if that could be possibly reorganized to work with Galaxy templating.

Okay I give up on trying to make this template work like it did on the old wiki. So instead I just went with the only image code for templates I know, and thankfully that seems to have done the trick and it also got rid of the error. Problem is we'll have to manually put image widths into the infobox. So if anyone is reading this, remember: When adding images to infoboxes keep them at around 250px or less.

Great job! If the admin becomes active again I think you should definitely be a mod. And now that there are at least two people working on this, the workload should appear more appealing to others.

Once we get the wiki to a completed state, we should make either a sister-wiki of implement a system similar to the wikia for our community to separate EU stuff from the community continuity.

I say then we focus on getting writers together and spreading to further reaches of the Star Wars community.

So, I've been mulling over this and while I think it's effective, I doubt it's the right approach. Like others have said before, this can't just be a /sw/ project if it's going to go anywhere. There are a lot of people out there actively despising the Mouse canon, but it seems most of them are already passionate EU fans. I personally believe that if you just focus on love for the original canon, you'll get these people and people who are just as enthusiastic about the EU, just not particularly hateful of Disney.

All that said, I absolutely think we should take a vote before deciding on a name when we have more ideas.

Someone already linked to a forum in the Battlefront thread that actively supports the EU. Try and recruit from there but avoid mentioning 8chan, unless you have to. As for names, AD seems the most fitting, or EUAD. But there's no rush honestly, we still have to get the first wiki into decent shape before we begin the project, unless there's enough people on here to work on both projects. I am concerned though that if the EUAD is managed by fans for fans and the fact that it'll have easy access to the public, then we risk inviting writers more interested in a message (Kate Leths and Kennedy types) rather than love for the story and universe. But again, maybe I'm over thinking things and it probably will never get that bad. The only real message that matters is that stories should inspire ideas and creativity along with interest in lore, not political propaganda a la Disney and Marvel.

100% this.

That concern of political pandering was what made me think having a central group that did quality control on the stories of the AD canon so that stories wouldn't seep through that were just pander fests. Plus, there is always the chance that totally community controlled could lead to it being derailed by people like that to begin with. It's a tough situation. I don't like having a closed circle in charge, but it is arguably more awful to allow SJW influence to derail it.

As for not mentioning 8chan, that's likely for the best. During this phase we need to grow and not let too much crap divide us.

Holonet and some early writefagging is gonna be the most effective, though planning for the future is still important.

Agree with both. It would be nice to be open with ideas but we can't risk some assholes hijacking the story-driven charity for personal gain. I'll just keep doing my wiki shit, you fucks focus on anything else. I've been working on articles and image downloads since this morning so I think we'll soon have the wiki in a decent 100 article state. But first we need to fix some of the articles already in place, like Palpatine which has too many Legends links.

As for the EUAD or whateverthefuckwecallit, all I wanna do for it something in a similar vain to the Essential Guides or a bestiary of sorts on the many under explored fauna and flora of the galaxy for others to use in their stories if need be. I've also always wanted to do a kind of entry on possibly white-furred wookiee tribes that may live in the far north/colder regions of Kashyyyk, who are more primitive and savage. Does that sound interesting?

That sounds like an amazing idea. I think while the wiki is being built, writefags should be working on guides for EUDAYMCA so that we can get some consistency. I've considered throwing out some ideas for some Post-Legacy content later on. 200 ABY or something, but it's best to get the busywork finished first.

Fuck yeah. Good job, dude. After this, I suppose we'll have to check over some of the info and go over information that was missing so we can work on summarizing and adding it.

Once it hits, we can start on the beginning pieces of our new canon.

Should one of us try to set-up a site to host the stories and mission statement of our project? I can do it soon, but if we have other options, then we should at least consider them.

Gonna post this idea here because writefaggotry is gonna be important once Staff gets online and the mass import happens. Tell me what I should plan differently or if the idea should be scrapped entirely.

>Around 200 ABY

>Galactic Federation Triumverant still has rule over the Galaxy, though some conflicts have challenged them over the years.

>The Empire is the most stable, Empress Marasiah Fel still alive and ruling. The Imperial Knights are well organized and respected, acting as an extension of the Force and their Empress. Unfortunately, the Empire's military and political influence is spread thin to compensate for the lack of military power in the Jedi Order and the Galactic Alliance.

>The Galactic Alliance, though unstable, has been reorganizes its government and assisting in development across the galaxy. Unfortunately, the early decision to keep the Alliance and Empire separate entities in the GFT has allowed political games to halt progress and has left their navy smaller and less influential than recent years have necessitated. Thankfully, Alliance systems have brought new advancements to technology, military and otherwise.

>The Jedi Order has recently undergone a schism due to the conflicts the galaxy has been facing. Knowing a disbanding of the Order would prove disastrous, they've split into three branches with their own Grand Master. Each branch has a different opinion of how the Jedi should move forward, though they all believe that a divided Order could lead to terrible consequences. One branch believes in the more individual-focused teachings of Luke Skywalker's age, another bases its ideals on the Old Jedi Order and their strict devotion to the Jedi Code, whilst the third desires a more militarized Order reminiscent of the Clone Wars era to prevent further conflicts that have been straining the GFT.

>The story would likely follow a survivor of a world that was attacked in the last decade who has started discover his force sensitivity and his trader friend as they travel towards Coruscant and the Jedi Order. During their travel, the Empress would be killed mysteriously and cause major unrest in the galaxy.

If this all sounds dumb, just say so, anons.

The way I have it thought out:

>The GA begins secretly constructing a superweapon in defense of any future attacks. This is found out by a high ranking Inperial Knight.

>The Imperial Knight begins to be pulled to the dark as he becomes more disillusioned with his faith in The Force and the state of the galaxy. He begins to revere the early days of the GFT, convincing himself that the efficiency and order came from the immediate escape of the chaos that Darth Krayt and Wredd had caused. The relative disarray of the GA and Jedi only pushes this belief further. Seeing as the Empire was keeping the peace more than the other factions, he decides that's where he'll need to take action.

>Taking advantage of the suspicious nature of the GA's new superweapon project, he betrays his loyalty and assassinates the Empress, careful to make it appear like a GA or Jedi crime. The Empress' vengeful heirs begin to mobilize and demand complete transparency from its allies.

>The GA and Jedi attempt to comply, but their already unstable organizations just lead to further blame from the Empire.

>The new Empress, under suggestions from the Imperial Knight who started this conflict, demands that the Jedi are removed from the GFT. Fearing complete takeover from the Imperials in that scenario, the Alliance allies with the Jedi Order and prepares for war.

>The Imperial Knight begins to fall more to the dark, secretly gathering more dissident groups to prepare for a campaign against the warring GFT when the time is right.

>After many battles, several large scale ones, the GFT learns how it was deceived by the Knight.

>The Knight has begun openly commanding the opposition, foreseeing his discovery.

>The opposition takes control of the half-finished superweapon, devastating an Imperial controlled core world.

>The Jedi Order reunites for the remainder of the war, working the Empire and GA to push back campaign against them, overwhelming the dissenting forces, destroying the superweapon and confronting the Imperial Knight as he sees his dream of a more united, stronger galaxy fulfilled through his death.

>The besieged Yevetha continued to refuse outside help, and were eventually rendered nearly extinct.[2] While many believed the species had been destroyed, it was speculated by some that their expansionist tendencies might have resulted in some colonies that escaped the notice of the Yuuzhan Vong.[1] In fact, after the fall of N'zoth, it was estimated that fewer than ten thousand Yevetha were still alive in the galaxy.[14]

Nah, there's some around somewhere. I have every bit of faith they'd try to renew their empire. Maybe come back to reclaim their homeworld or reform some aspect of themselves so they wouldn't end up on the losing side of another invasion. Or maybe there could be a story following a team or set of teams trying to locate an isolated location that best mimicked their homeworld. Or tried to unite the last few settlements into something formidably defensive.

I'd want it entirely from their point of view, too. I want to see them struggling with their culture, the fear of being found, the issue of subjugating a planet while faced with dwindling resources without getting sideswiped by any potential interlopers. Perhaps there's a brush with a scouting ship and the main character has to deal with the risks of bringing in the unwanted attention of a larger, stronger threat of whoever sent it. Show how they'd handle any captives to see what they can gain or be genuinely worried as to whether what little they have can stand up to whatever sent the scout ship. The higher number of lower castes vs. the bare minimum higher castes, society trying to reorient itself and all that amongst this threat, real or imagined.

I also want to propose something, I've thought about that for a while now. As far as I know, there's a 3000-year timespan between TOR and Darth Bane, where nothing is happening. I'd be willing to reference a plot point or something you set up in a notable way. I've also been thinking about a few things you could explore that might fit into that gap.

>A group of explorers colonizing the outer rim or interacting with cultures. Perhaps headed by a few Jedi, maybe even a spiritual precursor to the Outbound Flight, keeping within the galaxy.

>Technological breakthroughs divide some of the galaxy, maybe heading a small revolt that some Sith capitalize on.

>Focus on an individual species attempting to connect with more of the galaxy, joining the Old Republic.

I've been trying to make it fit with Legends as much as possible as I'm currently only in the KOTOR-era, (not sure if I'll ever leave it to be honest) and I'm trying less to make my own canon and more to flesh out the bare-bones lore that is the Mando Wars leading into KOTOR proper.

A good policy to have. I think having most of the works be digital will also work to assist good stories not getting thrown out over minor continuity errors. Edits can be made as needed, as long as they're not plot dependent on said errors. Overall, just having an active group of dedicated people discussing the lore assists in providing better quality and consistency of writing.

>>23994

I read through a bit of it. I think it's good idea to focus more on refining the established lore before moving onto creating more to fit into the universe. The ideas being discussed there to fill in some of the gaps seem solid. I need to reacquaint myself with the TOR lore again before I can start discussing it at length. My reason for attempting to expand the lore forward is to both give myself a reasonable era where I can tell a good story and give a lot of free space to other writers to tell better stories and explore subjects they can do justice to. Expanding forward also doesn't interfere with the EU as it was left, so it could be easily discarded or ignored by those who don't feel too much should be added. I am personally opposed to too much tampering with established lore, however, so the ideas in the TOR thread do catch my interest. It seems everything proposed there goes to the service the lore, rather than change or add pointlessly.

As for this thread, I think for the time being, planning more additions to the lore or just trying to refine canon is a good place to continue. I'll try to stay involved and informed for discussion.
