It'd be a hard pillar of /strek/ to crack the whole, everyone in the Federation is an Atheist. You could have them happen across a bunch of Muslim Colonists somewhere but touching Islam in Star Trek will bring the writers more flack than leaving it alone since according to some Imams Muslims can't leave Earth.

>since according to some Imams Muslims can't leave Earth.

If these people understood Islam and weren't blindly virtue-signalling, they wouldn't be so in love with it in the first place. Remember, these are people who unironically shill for Muslim feminism, so they'd do it anyways.

>This something ENT gets right with those coveralls.

You're damn right. Those practical-and-comfortable uniforms were totally believable as a midway point between a NASA-like jumpsuit and a TOS uniform. They were perfect for a not-really-military crew on an exploration mission. Someone in an Enterprise jumpsuit would fit right in on the ISS, or vice versa.

I just finished re-watching the show in expectation of the second season.

I honestly can't believe how good the show is. There's some humour that falls flat, but apart from that, it's fantastic. There are interesting and varied characters, but not just that, the characters feel *real*, like actual people with their own desires and flaws. The plots are interesting and engaging, with ideas that make social commentary but still have a good time doing so. Like that episode with the voting on people. When I first watched it I thought it was a plot worthy of Black Mirror (and later watched Black Mirror S3 and realised it had the same idea). The effects are good, the worldbuilding is decent (hopefully it will develop more in further seasons) and the ship just feels alive with people going about their business.

Welcome to the Annual Pussy Snorkeling Championship! This year sponsored by Damar's Special Reserve Kanar, drink it before he does!

Coming to you from Casperia Prime, boy do we have a special line up this year folks!

Starting off we have last years winner and favourite to win; the Remover of Hasperat, the destroyer of Bajoran pussy everywhere, he's not just any Cardassian, he's Gul Dukat! Will he go the distance and challenge the record laid down by James T Kirk? Who knows, but if anyone can come close it's him!

Next up we have a newcomer who you may be forgiven as being some random Pakled that has wandered in confused into the studio but don't let looks fool you! Grebnedlog battle record is already nearly as long as Gowron's! Speaking of which Gowron will not be attending this year due to being disqualified by refusing to have his "d'k tahg" cleaned before taking part, stirring quite a lot of controversy!

Here we have someone you are all well acquainted with by now, he's the USS Enterprise's resident Chad and last year's runner up! Commander William T Riker! Will he take the throne from Dukat? If anyone can he's the one to beat!

Last up we have the wandering rogue, the outrageous Captain Thadium Okona! Considered quite a ladies man in certain circles but will that do him any good here when he's up against professionals? While certainly no favourite to win he may yet surprise us! Certainly one to keep an eye on!

Now we have been introduced to our contenders it's time to let them get settled in. What techniques will they use? How far will they endure? We will find out after some messages from Quark!

>Their one dimensional "dumb hulking brute" image is part of their power. They come off as so stupidly militant that no one expects brilliance. Klingon guile at it's finest.

I've actually now watched pretty much all of Trek now except that one that won't be mentioned

I kind of want to know where the impression of Klingons being savages comes from. They are anything but.

In TOS they are cunning warriors that are more reliant on their brains than their brawn. They also plan long term more so than short term with remarkable patience shown. Their relation also with the Federation is a weird one of mutual respect despite being enemies; you get the feeling that if the Federation was attacked the Klingons would come to the Federation's aid if only for the sole reason that nobody should be allowed to kill the Federation but them.

In TNG it's a mixed bag although again in most cases Klingons are shown to be exceptionally clever and cunning. Kurn alone pulls off feats of tactical genius but other Klingons also show their technical prowness.

In DS9 they seem to be underestimated at every opportunity. They crack codes that not even the Obsidian Order at the height of their power could crack, hold insanely accurate intel on Cardassian weapons facilities that nobody thought could be discovered, have insanely good warships to the point their Battlecruisers can maneuver like Escorts, and are able to hold the entire Dominion at bay alone outnumbered 20:1.

In VOY they not only manage to break free of the Borg Collective but successfully hijack a Borg Sphere.

ENT they very much an arrogant race overly confident on their superiority of others although they can be reasoned with. They are far more concerned with their own internal troubles than that of outsiders.

>I kind of want to know where the impression of Klingons being savages comes from.

It's a meme created by normalfags who may or may not have seen the show, but don't really understand at a level that a true fan would. It's like the pervasive meme that Kirk was massive horndog who slept with every alien woman and female suboridinate he came in contact with, but in actuality he only had romantic inclinations with 2 or 3 of them.

In my view, Klingons are exceptionally strong and cunning warriors, but are hamstrung by their own internal politics and rigid adherence to their honor code, leading them to be manipulated by others such as the Romulans and the Dominion into doing their bidding.

After looking up about this ship class and the history of it, was it actually ever good? For a Frontline Heavy Cruiser the Federation seemed to build hardly any of them considering how many of it's replacement Excelsior Classes they built. Was it a luxury instead of being a serious ship? It always seemed that the Miranda Class was a far cheaper option that could do it's job nearly as well.

>Fanboi theory is their shipfu must be super OP snowflake vessel

Yup sounds like a Reddit theory. In reality if you take what this >>24249 nigger said there's actually a fair number of Connies, even if you take canon only you have at least 30 of them. Say the size of Starfleet's capital ship fleet is 600 this does not include all the auxiliary support ships and countless other police vessels you will have which is a fair estimate at the time and 50 of them are Heavy Cruisers that's not a small amount of them. That's 1/12 of your fleet. Keep in mind to this ratio you will likely have around 100 Light Cruisers, 150 Destroyers, a dozen Battleships/Carriers and rest made of Frigates that's a fairly average fleet lineup.

So no I would say the Connie is not some special snowflake vessel and that's where a lot of the appeal about it comes from. It's a run of the mill aging Heavy Cruiser.

>Data is the pedo.

Look, just because Data IRC'd with a little girl and made sure to tell her to keep their conversations secret from her family and friends, and also arranged things so that he could meet her in person without the knowledge of said family and friends, doesn't make him a pedo. I'm sure his intentions were totally innocent.

http://archive.is/sxvYe

>CBS All Access has set phasers to funny with the announcement today that they’ve given a two-season commitment to Star Trek: Lower Decks, an animated comedy from Emmy Award-winner Mike McMahan. The show, which will be produced by CBS Eye Animation Productions, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment, will follow the support crew serving on one of Starfleet’s least-important ships. CBS Eye Animation Productions is CBS Television Studios’ new animation arm.

>Alex Kurtzman and Heather Kadin of Secret Hideout and Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth and Katie Krentz of Roddenberry Entertainment will serve as executive producers alongside McMahan, who is best known for Rick and Morty and has written the upcoming Harry Mudd-centric installment of Star Trek: Short Treks. Aaron Baiers, who brought McMahan to the project, will serve as a co-executive producer.

The animated Clerks was pretty good. It was just ahead of its time, and ABC didn't care for the raunchy humor. If FOX had picked it up, we'd probably still be watching it.

Is this why he is considering an iconic movie villain?

Explain. Who is Hannibal here? Because the Romans had such a huge vengeance boner for Hannibal, not the otherway arround.

Not true. Hannibal hated the Romans considerably. The war was fought mostly with Carthage's tepid support.

Hannibal hated the Romans pretty deeply fam. Roman mythology even suggests his existence was the product of Dido swearing a dying curse of vengeance on Rome. He was also determined enough in his quest to fuck up the Romans that he frogmarched a bunch of elephants through the Alps.

What does /strek/ think of General Order Numbah 1? There are a few different interpretations of it that we see in the shows; for example, The PD would normally have kept Picard from involving himself in the Klingons picking the new Chancellor, but he was allowed to do it because a Klingon civil war might, possibly, affect the Federation's alliance with the Klinks. What's the /strek/-approved, if any, interpretation?

>Our comfortable living standard were only made possible with colonialism, mass impoverishment and two world wars.

>Oy vey the government needs to go to war or else we'll lose our living standard

Get the (((Keynes))) out of your head goy, you'll start thinking a lot clearer.

>And since only the Feds care about it, what prevents other species from exploiting underdeveloped races? Posing as their gods, enslaving them?

Earlier in the thread someone posited that real motive behind the Prime Directive is just to discourage bleeding-heart Starfleet captains from abandoning their mission to play god to some alien spearchuckers. If we assume this to be true, than we can say that the other races never caught the socialism mind-virus and as such don't have any desire to virtue-signal by wasting their time trying to uplift some alien culture, they've got more important shit to do.

>Oy vey the government needs to go to war or else we'll lose our living standard

I didn't say that. I meant that people don't just wake up one day and skip stages of historical development and are like "hey, let's organize our society to XYZ principles!". Every society reproduces itself, slave owners think they have a right to own another person, feudal lords think they have a right to distribute usufruct rights over this plot of land, etc. - this applies to society today, still. At least ST wasn't idealistic in that regard, they needed WWIII for humanity to unite.

>If we assume this to be true, than we can say that the other races never caught the socialism mind-virus and as such don't have any desire to virtue-signal by wasting their time trying to uplift some alien culture, they've got more important shit to do.

There are dozens of episodes (and Insurrection which is like a two-parter) where interstellar species fuck with primtive ones because they want a raw material. Now if we take the laws of this universe seriously, and remember how populated it is, there is no way primitive races are exploited literally all the time.

Makes you wonder how many Feddie first contacts go horribly wrong within a couple of decades. How many times does someone from the final native generation just commandeer a starship and warp it into his own planet at full speed because he can't stand to see the rot and degeneration any longer? After all many planets don't survive their WWIII stage, or are knocked back to the stone age. There's got to be a bunch that don't survive first contact.

That's what all those "human colonies" really are: if and when FC goes wrong and the population starts to openly denounce the Federation, S31 just releases a fast-acting virus into the population, their existence is memory-holed, and they ship a bunch of humans in to "colonize" the world. Can't have the other interstellar powers thinking there might be trouble in paradise, after all.

A thread for Star Trek questions that don't need a thread of their own.

I'll start with: why do so many junior officers in TNG wear command-track uniforms? Worf, LaForge, even soyboy Crusher wore red when he got a full uniform.

https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Second_Skin_(episode)

>The brief scene of 2 cardassians watching the outdoor monitor playing the "look to the children" message is taken from "Tribunal", though with some changes. In Tribunal the shot starts showing a wider angle of the city and pans over to the screen as 2 cardassians walk into view and ends just after one turns toward the other. In this episode the shot starts as the one cardassians turns toward the other and continues several seconds past where it ended in Tribunal. The message on the screen is also playing from a different timestamp.

>In this episode the shot starts as the one cardassians

>one cardassians

Does this need fixing?
