>Most villain vs hero stories follow the "David vs Goliath" format, i.e. little goy overcoming big goy

>Khan is the opposite, he uses his wits and intelligence to overcome the hero who holds all the cards

>End result is that appears as both deadly and intimidating

Is this why he is considering an iconic movie villain?

Explain. Who is Hannibal here? Because the Romans had such a huge vengeance boner for Hannibal, not the otherway arround.

Not true. Hannibal hated the Romans considerably. The war was fought mostly with Carthage's tepid support.

Hannibal hated the Romans pretty deeply fam. Roman mythology even suggests his existence was the product of Dido swearing a dying curse of vengeance on Rome. He was also determined enough in his quest to fuck up the Romans that he frogmarched a bunch of elephants through the Alps.

What does /strek/ think of General Order Numbah 1? There are a few different interpretations of it that we see in the shows; for example, The PD would normally have kept Picard from involving himself in the Klingons picking the new Chancellor, but he was allowed to do it because a Klingon civil war might, possibly, affect the Federation's alliance with the Klinks. What's the /strek/-approved, if any, interpretation?

>Oy vey the government needs to go to war or else we'll lose our living standard

Get the (((Keynes))) out of your head goy, you'll start thinking a lot clearer.

>And since only the Feds care about it, what prevents other species from exploiting underdeveloped races? Posing as their gods, enslaving them?

Earlier in the thread someone posited that real motive behind the Prime Directive is just to discourage bleeding-heart Starfleet captains from abandoning their mission to play god to some alien spearchuckers. If we assume this to be true, than we can say that the other races never caught the socialism mind-virus and as such don't have any desire to virtue-signal by wasting their time trying to uplift some alien culture, they've got more important shit to do.

>Oy vey the government needs to go to war or else we'll lose our living standard

I didn't say that. I meant that people don't just wake up one day and skip stages of historical development and are like "hey, let's organize our society to XYZ principles!". Every society reproduces itself, slave owners think they have a right to own another person, feudal lords think they have a right to distribute usufruct rights over this plot of land, etc. - this applies to society today, still. At least ST wasn't idealistic in that regard, they needed WWIII for humanity to unite.

>If we assume this to be true, than we can say that the other races never caught the socialism mind-virus and as such don't have any desire to virtue-signal by wasting their time trying to uplift some alien culture, they've got more important shit to do.

There are dozens of episodes (and Insurrection which is like a two-parter) where interstellar species fuck with primtive ones because they want a raw material. Now if we take the laws of this universe seriously, and remember how populated it is, there is no way primitive races are exploited literally all the time.

Makes you wonder how many Feddie first contacts go horribly wrong within a couple of decades. How many times does someone from the final native generation just commandeer a starship and warp it into his own planet at full speed because he can't stand to see the rot and degeneration any longer? After all many planets don't survive their WWIII stage, or are knocked back to the stone age. There's got to be a bunch that don't survive first contact.

That's what all those "human colonies" really are: if and when FC goes wrong and the population starts to openly denounce the Federation, S31 just releases a fast-acting virus into the population, their existence is memory-holed, and they ship a bunch of humans in to "colonize" the world. Can't have the other interstellar powers thinking there might be trouble in paradise, after all.

I'll start with: why do so many junior officers in TNG wear command-track uniforms? Worf, LaForge, even soyboy Crusher wore red when he got a full uniform.

>The brief scene of 2 cardassians watching the outdoor monitor playing the "look to the children" message is taken from "Tribunal", though with some changes. In Tribunal the shot starts showing a wider angle of the city and pans over to the screen as 2 cardassians walk into view and ends just after one turns toward the other. In this episode the shot starts as the one cardassians turns toward the other and continues several seconds past where it ended in Tribunal. The message on the screen is also playing from a different timestamp.

Pretty much the crew gets stuck on some planet, and its mostly an excuse to tell character backstory while they're stuck in an alien prison camp. That, and I think Harry Kim gets his leg telefragged by a cave.

Just rewatched DS9 and that ending (minus the prophet's) hit me fucking hard. TNG never seemed to end, TOS ended too abruptly, but DS9 reached a climax. People changed, finished arcs and goddamnit watching them all leave made me want to cry, even if it's the second time I've seen it.

What are /strek/'s thoughts?

Everyone who is hating on the DS9 ending should understand that you can't compare a 90s show with Game of Thrones or The Expanse or whatever. The serialized concept was pretty new at that time. The fact they gave us a completely serialized finale over nine episodes was groundbreaking, of course there are gonna be hick ups here and there. It had a final battle (Invasion of Cardassia), it had a final "boss fight" (Dukat vs. Sisko), plus character development. The fact that it wasn't executed like a Game of Thrones season shouldn't make the appreciation smaller.

Ezri was only in the show because DS9 could never escape the 90s/80s show paradigms. A regular dies off, you need to introduce a replacement. You can find this in literally all SciFi shows from that time, like Stargate, etc.

It doesn't ruin Pegasus for me, but Pegasus itself contains enough development for Riker to reach his conclusions, so it is completely unnecessary. I agree on that it probably would have worked better if set after TNG and TNG movies… but it would have been far better as actual Enterprise episode,

>>27599

I don't hate DS9 or its ending, but it is kinda 'meh for me. The yard stick for DS9 for me is Babylon 5. That was far more serialized and without going too deep into fuck up that was Babylon 5's final season, really half an season stretched to extreme, second half 4th season contained content intended to run until first half of 5th season. The theme of 5th season was now that epic wars were done, now you have to deal with consequences of stuff you have done. That didn't really happen in DS9.

Generally DS9 is in uncanny valley between 90's episodic show and serialized show. It doesn't fully commit into being serialized like its contemporaries like Babylon5 and Buffy for example. It is product of its time, when TV was changing from strictly episodic to modern long form drama.

I don't have to compare it to anything but itself. The finale is very thin in plot when it begins, Ezri and Worf getting lost is not enough of a story to sustain two or three whole episodes when the show has already done Worf and Jadzia in a jungle or Odo and Quark on a mountain in one. After that it picks up speed and the Dominion war itself is handled just fine, but having had lots of excellent episodes featuring Dukat and seven years to prepare for the ultimate purpose of the Emissary, there's no excuse for dropping the ball on such a shallow, half-hearted conclusion. Sisko specifically was conceived by the Prophets, had his life influenced by them several times, given divine revelations, all so he could finally show up and push Dukat over a ledge. It doesn't require two decades of collective industry experience to see that this is insufficient.

Frankly I'm not sure we have anywhere else to "boldly go" here. Maybe it's time to move on and diversify another franchise? I hear James Bond is hiring…

the federation does seem to make a lot of effort to encourage the possible "troublemakers" to get the fuck off their perfect utopian crown jewel world and into dangerous lawless space. Hell, it feels like half the purpose of Starfleet is to have something shiny to distract all the types of people, that wouldn't be content just passively sitting on their ass in a post scarcity cocoon being pacified with endless replicated food and holo generated sex their entire lives, and hopefully get the especially problematic people killed off.

How stupid is the idea of the Prophets?

I mean its the perfect example of writers throwing in stupid ideas to make them look alien, in the end they(writers and the Prophets) only look retarded.

>pleasure what is this

>Time what is this

>Destroy him! Or he will destroy us!

>death what is this

>pleasure what is this

its really hard to imagine anything existing without the concept of pleasure and pain.

>Time what is this

If you don't understand the concept of time you are defective.

>Destroy him! Or he will destroy us!

>death what is this

The literal fuck?

1) if you understand the concept of stooping to to exist you understand death. do your retarded

>death what is this

Makes you look retarded

2) HOW? Are you implying you the Prophets can not die?

Rating 10/10 on the absurdity pure TV bullshit.

Boring? it was an examination of what it means to live in reality, set in a well established arc for a secondary character. Sorry that classic Science Fiction is too boring for you

Hey, ain't nothing wrong with a cute lil' reverse-trap. Especially when she's hiding these under her uniform.

A reverse trap can absolutely have tits, she just needs to have their true size mostly hidden when wearing her normal outfit. And Ezri's standard uniform definitely minimized their apparent size.

This.

Also if you had to breed for the arseheads (Talosians), wouldn't that mean your children would have to breed with each other?
