Why is the question of underwear never brought up in Star Trek? Is it something uniform or personal across varying species? Is Cardassian underwear extract stretch to accommodate the Guls? Are Romulan pantsu extract frilly for the maids?

>Jesus Christ, they can't ALL be Jews

No you're wrong. Just watch the show and in each episode try to find an allegory for some facet of the jewish experience. When you do that it becomes very clear that the DS9 was developed as a vehicle to explore all the different facets of the jewish identity in the 20th century. It's a really preachy show too so it's not too difficult to determine who are the jews and what the show is trying to say about them and the group that is opposing them. I actually learned a lot about how jews view the world and each other when I watched ds9 this way

Don't assuming that they are going to be consistent about which races are jews, but there's all different types of jews. They changed which type of jew was the featured jew when they needed to for the story. Remember, this was in the 90's and it was very episodic. Sometimes bajorans were holocaust jews, but when the cardassians were being the israeli jews then the bajorans often took on the role palestinians.

There wasn't a jew angle to every single episode, but it seems like there was in many of them, especially in the early seasons. When the ratings were failing they changed the course of the show and they started up the dominion war.

The reason why nobody involved in the show has explicitly said that DS9 was an exploration of being jewish is because DS9 was a show that was entirely created and run by jews. Gene Roddenberry died before the started shooting and he was so ill he wasn't involved in the development either. Rick Berman and Michael Pillar (both jews) were running TNG. Brandon Tartikoff, a jewish executive at paramount, oversaw their development of DS9, and they brought in jewish writer and producer Ira Steven Behr to make the show with them. All these jews would have known not to speak up and say it officially.

Yeah but they stepped back from that episodic nature of exploring jewish identity. They focused more on war stuff.

GREETINGS /strek/

The Infinity Cup is returning once again, and 8chan's boards will be fighting it out on the pitch to claim divegrass supremacy. As a board that has participated in the Cup at one point or another in its history, you are invited to the reveal stream for 2019 Summer edition of the Cup. On Saturday June 22nd, at 3 PM EDT/7 PM UTC, on cytu.be/r/8cup I'll be giving you guys an early look at the Cup's 5th edition, which will include revamped aesthetics, team stadiums and other quality of life improvements I've figured out how to do in PES 17. Hopefully this will get anons back on board with the Cup, considering it has struggled mightily since its 2nd incarnation.

So how is it going to go down? I'll be staging a couple of exhibition matches between teams using their rosters from the last Cup, and we'll shitpost our merry way through the stream. Once the stream ends, entries will be open for the Cup, and boards can start putting together/editing their rosters and kits. Entries will close in early July, the field will be determined, and the Group Draw will take place approximately a week before the Cup kicks off in August. I'm also hoping to possibly introduce managers for the Cup, although I'm still working out the details to keep this from devolving into a namefag dick measuring contest. I hope you all will tune in, and in case you aren't caught up on your board's history, I've provided some links below to get you caught up:

The entries for the Infinity Cup are now closed. 24 teams total submitted the required base elements to be a valid entrant. While not the 32 I envisioned, 24 is still a viable number to host a tournament. The full list of 24 teams can be found at >>>/8cup/3322. A stream will be held at https://cytu.be/r/8cup , on August 4th in order to determine the Group Stage of the tournament. As one of the 24 boards participating, you will need to cobble together enough autism to complete the entry and fully personalize your team. What I need from your board is as follows:

Player Heights (http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Rules#Player_Builds.2FAbilities)

Player Cards (http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Player_Cards)

Team Strategy (http://infinitycup.shoutwiki.com/wiki/Team_Strategies)

Feel free to post the final pieces in here or in your thread on >>>/8cup/. A reminder that this is a call for any Blenderfags who are willing to help out to make faces/models for the players in game, as well as anyone with a nice voice and a microphone willing to be part of live commentary at one point or another. I also ask that the board vols please sticky this thread until the Cup is over so as to contain any shitposting, OC, banter, or Cupposting, as well as keep a highly visible place for remaining announcements to go.

How would MU voyager even work? They'd either have used the caretaker's array to go home in the first episode, or they'd stick around and figure out how to use it to take over the Empire, because this is Janeway we're talking about.

My guess:

>Voyager goes on a mission to the badlands to exterminate a ship of Maquis. They are about to crush the Maquis ship when the energy wave sweeps them off to the caretaker. They make a truce with the Maquis until they get home. The old, "it's better to be tried by twelve than carried by six." They fuck the Kazon in the ass and just take a bunch of supplies from the Ocampa. They make a truce with the Maquis until they get home. Then they tear ass across the Delta quadrant slaughtering any Kazon that cross their path, and doing whatever it takes to get the supplies they need. Also seven of nine has bigger tits.

Anyone else like those 90s space combat simulators? I loved Descent:Freespace and Freespace2 and would have loved a Trek themed one. Both those games had a great storytelling and fun gameplay (vid related).

Somewhere I have some old isos of the Wing Commander series as well as Starlancer and Freelancer but I haven't had the opportunity to play them. I also remember a series called X, X2, X3 etc but I don't know much about them. Anyone ever tried them and have any recommendations?

Wing commander is more star wars than trek. Freelancer is great but needs a lot of modding to fix all it's issues due to being cobbled together and rushed out the door after the main develper self destructed. Starlancer was okay. Not great, not bad, and it shipped on time and on budget, which is whole fucking lot more that Freelancer can boast. And the X series is very polarizing, people either love them or hate them for how the fun space sim aspects tend to turn into a trade empire building game halfway through.

As for more modern space games, you might enjoy Rebel Galaxy, the Startpoint Gemni series, or Evochron Legacy

The point is that illogical moves are inherently weak moves in chess.

You literally can. Logical or not, there are only so many possible legal moves you can make from a given board configuration. Since you can control what that range of motion is through your own pieces, regardless of how "logical" or "illogical" your opponent is, a good player will funnel the range of possible moves down until the only moves your opponent can make are the ones that lead to victory, regardless of how "illogical" their style is. In that scene, notice how Data was immediately able to say "checkmate in 8 moves" after Troi's move?

>>33094

And so is the ENT "These are the voyages…" episode. What exactly is your point? He's still a pile of nonsensical inconsistencies, and Nemesis is still a garbage movie, regardless of canonical status.

083e5f  No.33112

There are only so many moves that can be made at any given time. Someone like Data would have no problem seeing all possible moves for several moves. This is how Deep Blue worked. It 'just' calulated every move and the ideal countermove for as many turns as it could. Chess is a solvable game, like tic-tac-toe. There is a finite number of chess games, just like there is a finite number of tic-tac-toe. The difference is there are a handful of possible tic-tac-toe games. The most well known conservative lower bound for chess is called the Shannon number. It's 10^120. There are at least 10^120 possible chess games, and the actual number is probably considerably higher. This includes stupid, but technically legal moves. If you only go by "sensible" moves, the lower bound is about 10^40 moves. To put these two numbers into reference there are about 10^80 atoms in the universe.

It is hoped that one day we will have the computing power to brute force chess and discover the perfect chess strategy. It seems even Data does not have enough computing power to do this.

It's clearly the Kazon. They are klingon-knockoff literal space niggers (writers say they are based on LA street gangs) who aren't even worth getting biodroned by the borg and did not manage to produce a single interesting plot point. Bad as most of them were even the other asshole aliens on Voyager managed to at least bring something to the table.

Looks like Picard is returning in a brand new Star Trek series. However, isn't he old as FUCK right now? He's 78 and could literally die any minute. I don't see this series going very far. Plus, with the latest introduction of the pozzed Odyssey series, it's safe to say that any new St series will be pozzed as well. After all Picard is just another Trump-hating celebrity who would agree to anything that involves subverting the science fiction we all love with some queer revisionism.

>Season 2 Status Report:

Starfleet sends the USS Fidget Spinner to investigate seven mysterious red energy bursts and a creature called the red angel. These phenomena are somehow connected to Spock, but he's in the space nuthouse so nobody can ask him. Also, everyone is sad. Michael is sad about Spock and later she's sad about practically fucking everything. Stamets is sad that his boyfriend died, but then he comes back to life, but that doesn't work out so he's sad about that too. Dr. Culber is sad that he came back to life, then he gets angry about it, then he gets sad again. Tyler is sad that he can't be with either of his stronk wimmens (the Klingorc emperor and Michael) and he's sad about having to send his newborn son to Klingon Tibet. Pike is sad that he keeps getting cucked at every turn and that nobody takes him seriously. Tilly is sad because her imaginary spore parasite friend had to go away. The only person who's not sad is Saru who uncovered an evolutionary lie about his entire species and turned into a Chad overnight (but not really).

As the investigation goes on the ship encounters a giant space brain which uses its last moments of life to download all of its memories into Discovery's computer. Meanwhile, Spock escapes the loony bin and Michael has some Family Drama (TM) with Sarek and Amanda, then goes off to find Spock on her own. She takes him to Talos IV where the Talosians fix his mind, but not his autism. He explains that he met the red angel and it showed him a vision of the future where all life in the galaxy is wiped out. HPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

Nobody but the handful of retards who actually pay for this shit want more Short Treks with the Discovery crew. That's why three are about the nuEnterprise crew and one is a lead-in for Picard. And the two Discovery ones aren't even live-action.

Overall I'm very pleased how little attention STD seems to be getting lately. I predict we'll get an announcement soon that season 3 will have a reduced episode count and it will quietly be cancelled while everyone is distracted by Picard and Rick & Morty Trek.

Pretty decent review. Not sure if the point with this being a bit of a turn of Quark's relationships with the main crew, and having actual proper permanent consequences is a good catch or an overreach, though.

Quark was always an easy launching pad for whatever the week's episode was doing, be it showing his bar as a centre of the community, or him being a slimy Ferengi bastard, it was used in the most convenient way. I certainly haven't noticed such a break before, but I could simply have missed it.

Not really, it's only there to help the most vicious of mouthbreathers install it or if you were retarded enough to get Windows 10. It's basically first two boxes ticked from install typically if you want to just play vanilla.

>What can you do in it?

You can conquer the galaxy via conquest or diplomacy playing the 5 major Alpha Quadrant powers. Use espionage and sabotage to gain leverage over opponents, even introduce biological weapons into someone's ecosystem killing millions and blame someone else for it. You can also build a subspace graviton field and make Bajor pay for it.

>How do the Federation play?

Like an attention whoring creepy girlfriend who wants to be everyone's friend. If you go to war with too many races your people will likely rebel. Ships focus more on defence and all rounded. Uses Diplomacy to gain power over a lot of Minor Races by making them become Members.

>How do the Klingons play?

Viking raiders. If you aren't fighting or make peace your people will get pissed off and likely rebel. That said they are surprisingly capable at diplomacy and will often have more warlike Minor Species waiting round the corner to join them. Have some very good fast and hard hitting ships plus their non-combat ships have weapons. A few of their ships also have cloaks.

>Both games as Federation (I like the ships) and want to try diplomacy

>Both times achieve overwhelming military superiority due to good resource management, but constantly press for peace with mild to moderate incentives

>AI always rejects

>Disposition constantly falls

>Conquer some star systems which Feds hate hoping to push the AI towards peace, AI attitude barely changes

>Everyone always hates me

>Whenever an AI decides to ask for peace (almost never), they break it practically the next turn

What am I doing wrong? Am I just supposed to pour money into my enemies just to make friends? It seems like when you demonstrate you can eat them alive and ask for peace, the AI would be eager to accept. It seems like they should be showering me with gifts for peace and alliances.

I do always try to scoop up minor races, I guess that could make everyone hate me, but not that much.

Also wanted to bump this thread, fun game.

a61705  No.12334[Reply][Last 50 Posts]

I want to get into a bit of Trek model-building. I've been looking around and it appears the most common scale commercially is 1:1000 with 1:1400 being seen a lot, too. I see a lot of 1400 ships that appear to be unavailable in 1:1000 scale so i'm looking hard at 1:1400. However, the Polar Lights 1:350 studio scale kits for Connie and Connie Refit look absolutely boss. They're just expensive as fuck (and that doesn't even include extras like lighting kits) - like $300 US. An additional cool thing about the 350's like the Polars is you can get a cheap Bird of Prey model in that same scale and have the classic film showdown in accurate size proportions for a marginal bit more time, effort, and cash. There is also 1:2500 scale mentioned on some forums but I haven't done enough reading to figure out what the significance is with something that small.

Another far-fetched idea I have in the back of my head is custom fabrication orders from China or 3D printing locally. It might be possible to group order or custom-make the various parts for Star Trek ships - bootleg style - and start our own kitbash club for way cheaper than the primo models. We could also do it in a more common scale like 1:1000 because a lot of people want quality models but not everybody wants them 3' long like the Polar Lights kits.

Also, miniatures and prop-replicas thread. Check the catalog for toys and merch thread.

It's 1/1000 scale, and is a little under 5 inches long (similar size to the Eaglemoss Oberth in your photo, I think?). It comes as part of a 2-pack with a Klingon Bird of Prey.

I'm pretty salty because the BoP seems to have received a lot more attention than the Oberth in its engineering and detailing. It's still got its share of blunders, though.

Also

>That itty bitty Micro Machines Oberth

I've got one of those floating around my home somewhere. Every time I stumble over a few of my old Micro Machines, I'm disappointed when none of them are the USS Grissom.

Sink marks occur where plastic is molded relatively thick. The plastic contracts and "sinks" inward as it cools. Basically all of the gray patches in the WIP photo I posted (except for on the under-slung sensor pod) are areas where I had to fill visible depressions/sink marks. They molded the pallet section of the hull as a single thick piece, and so most of its flat surfaces had visible deformation.

Sink marks are a common thing in injection-molded plastic kits, but in a competently-engineered kit they're so small and shallow that they're practically imperceptible.

Apologies for the double-post.

I've just about got the Oberth to the point that I can start priming and painting. Just wanted to show off the detail that I added to the back of the pallet section of the hull. Because of how the kit was engineered, this area was molded flat and featureless, and a decal was supplied to represent these details.

A word for anyone who aspires to take model-building seriously as a hobby: this is why it's worthwhile to learn some basic scratchbuilding/fabrication techniques. These kinds of tiny details are often what take a model to the proverbial "next level" and in the case of a model as simple as this Oberth kit, it can make the difference between the model looking like a toy, or looking like a proper scale replica.
