Ha, I really want a solid take on the Stre/k/ RPG but I keep getting bogged down in mechanics. I'm watching thru TOS and trying to get something that captures that feel inside a roman legion like command structure. The federation is the human empire actually commanding thousands of worlds and working on a population of a quintillion, with literally billion and billions of people in Starfleet. The game would revolved arround the 'mostly peaceful exploration, diplomacy legion (the tenth Expeditionary force with the other legions 1-9 having their own jobs from sol system defence aka 1st legion to Station Engineering, Science, big honking space navies (4-7) and finally the logistics and expeditionary forces.

I really like the idea of a half strength legion (compard to the double strength 4-7) of 6000 ships of 1k people each just doing their best to categorize the wild world out there (and of course stripping the names and junk out of the IP as you go) before deciding which follow up legion should get it's hands on it (with all the politics that comes with that).

Basically make the terran empire but not fucking pants on head retarded or evil for the sake of being evil and see how it would actually function in the star trek universe.

Do you have any specific examples? I guess it's possible they would do this, following the same logic I've seen some of the LCARS panels from TNG at Star Trek: The Exhibition and they have little poems and shit in tiny font on the edges. They also had Q's judge chair which stank for some reason, maybe it had been stored in a damp warehouse.

I kind of like the new CG, but obviously it would be vile heresy if it outright *replaced* the original SFX Lucas-style, it's just cool to have it as an option.

Not only do we get bombings and assassinations the other Bajoran racists will refuse to sell to humans because all Bajorans are fucken racists.

Now

"In the Hands of the Prophets" is a mild example we get wonderful* Bajoran behavior like the circle who thinks attacking non-Bajorans is a great way to make a point.

Considering all the assassinations and government overthrows I don't think Bajorans are capable of ever holding a stable government.

I don't see why any other species should simply not kick these savages in the teeth every time they start shit like this and think attacking non-Bajorans at every occasion.

Weird thing is the writers of the cartoon originally intended the crew to meet angels instead of the goatman but the network said no despite that the writers said they had no anti-religious intentions for the episode. One of them even said in an interview how odd it was that the network didnt approve of the fleet befriending angels but were fine with them meeting a demon.

The explanation if my memory serves is that the Goa'uld can't be arsed to learn other languages so they just force everyone to speak english. A language from thousands of years AFTER the Goa'uld where driven off the planet, from a region thousands of miles from where the Goa'uld where hanging around (ancient egypt) and that evolved as a mishmash of several other european languages over thousands of years.

The original movie did it much better, with the locals speaking a decendant of ancient Egyptian and the aliens having their own language.

TL:DR The Stargate show was a lazy, half assed mess that should be forgotten.

Yeah, I used to think the everybody speaking English thing was lame too… then I watched STD's first season, and realized no, it's absolutely necessary. You just can't expect most actors to competently deliver huge blocks of lines in some language they know nothing about. The end result isn't worth it.

Moonrune subtitles work because it's the actors' native language. They can emote and express themselves with a great degree of precision, and as a result their acting is stronger in the language, since they understand every word and what they're supposed to emphasize. Klingon subtitles wouldn't work because the only people practiced enough in Klingon to command it as well as they do English are too autistic to be placed in front of a camera. If the actors don't have that proficiency, they're effectively memorizing gibberish instead of lines, and are unable to give their delivery with any nuance. This is why Trek is in English, and it's for a similar reason that Trek aliens always have rubber foreheads; if the lower half of the face were obscured rather than the upper, it would be much harder for them to perform facial expressions.

Why is Data considered special by the Federation?

Kirk encountered that android making machine from that lost civilization. He also came across that entire planet of androids where he ended up marooning Mudd for his continued bullshit.

By the time of TNG though Data and his little extended family are treated like unique, irreplaceable creations that only Noonian Soong, Super Genius could ever hope to make from scratch.

This is just one more thing that makes me believe that TNG was actually a stealth reboot and not a continuation of the classic series.

You can make the same argument for basically anything they make a big deal out of. Why are the Borg seen as so scary and advanced? They've encountered dozens of civilizations and creatures that they were literally helpless against, whereas the Borg went from existential threat to lame duck they had basic parity with with anti-climactic swiftness. And even in their first encounter they were at least able to slow the borg down.
