This is someone who clearly doesn't know anything about Geordi or Trek beyond the fact that he's black and mostly wants to glorify themselves for being a fat nigger goatfucker's wife. It's downright embarrassing that the official Star Trek website is promoting this shit because it has some sort of symbolic value to retards.

If you'd been alive back then, you would have been complaining left and right about how they dared put a nigger in TNG that wasn't just a glorified secretary (like Uhura). Geordi was a black man who was also blind, and dared to be EDUCATED and IMPORTANT rather than just token, at a time when the USA was still simmering over desegregation (LA riots happened in the middle of the show's run). The unbelievable irony in your post is palpable, but you wouldn't be able to see it if it were written on a bag of cement and thrown in your face. From the very fucking beginning, Trek was about breaking social boundaries and upsetting conservatives and people who were anti-integration. If you think it's a new thing just because it's happening in your own lifetime, you're just showing your underage b&.

gotta agree with the tumblrina here, kinda.

star trek has always been about muh social boundaries an shieeeet. and i mean in every series too. first interracial kiss on tv? first lesbo kiss on tv? first black captain? first stronk female captain? endless plotlines meant to be direct metaphors for social taboos etc etc etc

the difference is that they used to actually make decent scifi alongside it, and had actually talented writers and actors working on the show.

now that thats gone, and its been boiled down to simply "challenging muh social boundaries" i think a lot of trekkies are becoming aware that they never really liked that aspect of the show, and mostly just "put up with it" because the rest of the show was great and also because the entire rest of the entertainment world hadnt been totally saturated in SJW-tier shit yet, so people were less fed up with it as a whole.

this also explains why a lot of people see orville as the spiritual successor we wanted. its good scifi, its got that star trek kind of camp, its definitely a bit pozzed, but all in all its better than anything the trek franchise has seen in years by a longshot. seth macfarlanes political opinions be damned, he made a good show, and a lot of trekkies, too disgusted by STD, have headed for greener rather, less brown pastures

and say what you will about geordi was one of my favorite characters as a kid tbh, but lavar burton unironically fucking taught me to love reading as a kid, and i cant thank him enough for that. i think if more blacks who had social importance used their platform to try and get kids to lrn2read before they got to school as he did, black society and society in general wouldnt be in half as sorry a state as it is now. as it stands, hes one of the few black tv stars that i can think of who did something actually useful for his people as well as society at large. nowadays most blacks on tv and in music are just literal hoodrat trash, put up on a pedestal, telling kids to go drink cough syrup and shoot at each other.

polite sage for faggoty schizopost

Painting any Trek character as religious, as the kebab in that webm was doing, shows a complete misunderstanding of Trek ignoring DS9's bullshit anyway. TNG has Picard quite literally call a planet abandoning religion and achievement. This applies to whatever religion you want to pick.

The other difference is that it's no longer challenging anything. TOS' bridge crew was something noone else on burger TV was doing at the time or arguably would have dared to do. STD's artificial diversity is just aping the mainstream opinion in the industry.

It was good despite all of that, and now it's shit because the writers put agendas above good characters and story telling.

Ask any person who liked Star Trek in the 60's why they like it. It's very rarely that they were enamoured with Roddenberry's Utopian vision. It's more that they thought Kirk and Spock were cool, and they liked it when they fought the Klingons.

That's also true. "diversity" hasn't been a challenge to the status quo in I don't know how long. 30 years? 40? A Star Trek show that really wanted to push boundaries would be making the case for a white ethnostate.

>The other difference is that it's no longer challenging anything

very good point actually

with the current cosmic background radiation being that of the SJW, it makes a lot of sense why the only semi-legitimate counterculture nowadays seems to tend more on the side of reactionary politics/social issues.

and also why even people who dont even disagree with moderate progressivism are getting fed up with it.

it seems that the entertainment/media machine has overstepped. people innately dont like getting told what to do. neither explicitly, nor through subterfuge. yet all modern entertainment seems to focus more on "the message", than the substance. this leaves even the more unaware of the normalfag with the lingering feeling that theyre being manipulated. weve most certainly seen this in the MSM news in the wake of the 16 election

>STD's artificial diversity is just aping the mainstream opinion in the industry.

lel yea it looks more like a generic stock photo than anything else

i remember, even as a kid who grew up in a mostly white, smaller town we would laugh at how insane some of the "teamwork" or "respect" posters idk wtf to actually call these, but you know what i meanonly 90s kids will get this xDDD that they pasted all over the walls in elementary school were, with their completely overbearing use of diversity. shit looked like "take your kid to work day" for the UN.

to add to this excluding bajorans obviously, most of the "religious" races/people that you run across in the trek universe come off more as agnostic, rather than explicitly religious.

kind of similar to how modern japan treats their ancient customs. they still respect them, and even follow the old customs to some extent, but the spiritual aspect takes a back seat compared to the tradition of it. more of a reverence to their past than a reverence to a godly being

When you say that, what do you mean exactly? Do you mean 'improving' in relation to whatever standards society has conditioned them to believe? Or perhaps you mean 'improving' in relation to some sort of herd instinct that humans have?

I don't see why either ought to be followed over anything else.
