The Klingon Empire wasn't completely destroyed, just weakened when Praxis exploded. Klingons signed a treaty with the Federation basically agreeing not to fuck with them and go their separate ways but the Federation did not absorb the Klingon Empire so there might be an opportunity for them to at least try some saber rattling again for old times sake. I'd like to see more about the Orions, more about them than just we need some sci-fi mafia goons and green bitches.

We will never have an actual Pike spin-off because it would require Kurtzman to stick to the canon and the aesthetic.

It would have some impact but it wouldn't be as big as you think it would be. Losing the centralized center of an empire would cripple it, but there would be admirals, bureaucrats and nobles who would set up an emergency temporary capital for all the central bureaucracy till they find a more permanent spot. Yes they would remove the heart and cause upheaval but the Empire would still exist.

Robot Chicken did a skectch where there are two bridge officers saying that the Empire is finished just because the second death star and Palpatine are eliminated. It's not real, there would be a power struggle caused by the vacuum but it would have a leader once again.

>The Federation has lifted the ban on synth even though they nearly destroyed the galaxy

>we finally see a bunch of ships from the Federation but it's the same 3D model duplicated 100 times because they rushed the CGI, also the ship looks more like a Battlestar than something from Starfleet.

See title. Now I know Voyager is often overshadowed by the other series, notably DS9 and TNG, but it still beats Discovery by a long shot.

Anyone else think that the writers shouldn't have had the Vidiians obtain a cure to the phage? IMO they should have set them up to attempt to invade Qo'nos in the alpha quadrant after discovering that Klingons have immunity to the phage. Voyager would have to take responsibly of accidentally introducing the Klingons to the Vidiians (the latter who are infamous for their organ-harvesting practices). It could be neat to watch the Klingons face the threat of having their entire race harvested in a similar way in which the Borg attempted to assimilate Earth.

I like both but ENT is great, whereas VOY relies on a handful of great episodes over a 7 season run. It's not even close for me really.

Hi! I used to post on the old infinitychan /strek/ board before the site shut down and didn't know it came back! It was swell to post on the only non-leftist Star Trek community probably ever.

Anyway, hopefully you won't mind my self-promotion, but I've been making review/analysis vids of each episode of Star Trek: Picard, replete with the nerdy perspective of someone who grew up with Trek and occasional jokes along the way. I just uploaded the one for episode 4 yesterday. I was hoping you guys might enjoy it or let me know what you think. I'm still pretty new at this!

Here's the latest one, my friends. Not as much theorising, but a lot more nitpicking! There's been a temptation to hope that all the stupid things previously would be explained down the line, but then you get the whole Artifact business in this episode and you realise they really have just put first draft logic out there as the final product and we're not going to get anything better. Plus there's only one episode left, and they literally couldn't repair everything even if it was Picard breaking the fourth wall and explaining all the issues for a straight hour.

>>33490

I also specifically used the descriptive formulation 'lightsabre fence' in this one! In honour of you and all the chaps here.

>>33493

Having not played it I'm at a disadvantage on this it seems. I know even RLM said about it in their last vid and they're not up to episode 9 yet, so anyone familiar with ME3 sees the connection. Surely this whole thing, the first on-screen continuation of the venerable Star Trek universe in 15 years, is not just a rip-off from a video game…r-right?

I haven't actually been watching Picard, so I can't say for sure, but if different alien races teaming up to stop an ancient race that wants to destroy all spacefaring civilizations so they don't create synthetic life that will rise up against their creators is where the plot seems to be going, then it might be a ripoff.

I really like how the really badass beyond space and time tentacles who were reacting to the distress beacon (and it being their entire reason for existance) just stopped caring when the beacon shut off.

Just imagine if 911, after getting your call and something happened that you disconnected just acted like nothing had happened.

It was a halfway decent episodes in parts unfortunately they have no sense of scale (lol 100 avenger class starships, sure whatever, Clone clone clone) and it was over before the 20 min mark so people could talk about feelings.

Well Star Trek's inconsistent and retarded economic system is basically a Redditor's conception of how socialism would work, so no, because socialism can't work like that. Yang's system won't work because he hasn't adressed the obvious problems that face socialism, the chief of which is the massive and accelerating free rider problem, since basically anyone on earth can walk into the US and start absorbing funds from the government (which are already in massive excess of 1000 dollars per person per month), and that's ignoring the massive foreign underclasses that are already there.

Yang proposes to pay for his program by cutting existing inefficient public benefits; if you actually believe the democrats (or most repubes) would EVER rollback the gibs under ANY pretense, I laugh at you.

>in the direction

Sure you could argue that, but this one small step would be so small as to be irrelevant if you end goal is Star Trek's 24th century vision.

Could you live anywhere in the US (rent+food+healthcare) on $1,000 freedom dividend?

Money doesn't mean much on Earth in the Star Trek universe because:

A) they don't have to buy flood insurance or anything because the weather is controlled (except for when Q interefreres)

B) Most food is replicated, people who actually cook are considered quirky or craftsmen, in our time we still need workers to produce all of it

C) We know that citizens have a limited number of times they can use a transporter (I think they were called 'beaming credits' on DS9) but other than that their energy is essentially limitless and clean as Earth has multiple matter/antimatter powerplants in operation; we haven't even mastered fusion yet

We don't have limitless energy, efficient automation in all industrial areas, and scarcity-free necessities available for all who need. I'm guessing in Star Trek most Federation citizens don't use their money unless they want to buy private property in some specific location from an existing owner, or they want something to haggle with when they leave federation space. For the most part education, experience and social capital seem to be the most important baragainng chip to have to your name, and if I were planning to leave Federation space I'd exchange my UFP credits for Ferengi gold-pressed-latinum as it seems to be more widely accepted.

A little something I have been meaning to take a note of for the longest time and that is the role of democracy in Trek. In particular how various races elect their leaders or people into leadership positions.

It is implied heavily that the Romulans have Senators that are elected but how or who they are elected by remains unclear.

The Cardassians could have something similar with their Detapa council but nothing is quite established.

The Klingons while ran by a High Council do have some semblance of an electoral process if only if it is a contest to show who is most fit to lead the Council.

About the only faction we see that does not has a clear established Democratic process is the Federation.

>But anon, le President and the council!

Yeah but it appears to be made up of heredity members that are clearly unelected. There also seems to be no reference to elections in the Federation at all with Presidents seemingly chosen at random. You'd think that such an important matter would be a plot point of a single episode but nothing is ever said on the subject matter.

So if I were to make a summary of my observations; Democracy does not exist in the Star Trek universe. Advancement only by sheer merit or heredity status exists.

Almost certainly, as we hear threats of certain worlds and races leaving the Federation, they must have some sort of representative body to fall behind. I always assumed they were like American states and the Federation was the Union. The Maquis are obviously the Confederacy.

Every show has a bible, it's even easier these days for a writer to keep up with the lore and the canon with Memory Alpha.

Ha, I really want a solid take on the Stre/k/ RPG but I keep getting bogged down in mechanics. I'm watching thru TOS and trying to get something that captures that feel inside a roman legion like command structure. The federation is the human empire actually commanding thousands of worlds and working on a population of a quintillion, with literally billion and billions of people in Starfleet. The game would revolved arround the 'mostly peaceful exploration, diplomacy legion (the tenth Expeditionary force with the other legions 1-9 having their own jobs from sol system defence aka 1st legion to Station Engineering, Science, big honking space navies (4-7) and finally the logistics and expeditionary forces.

I really like the idea of a half strength legion (compard to the double strength 4-7) of 6000 ships of 1k people each just doing their best to categorize the wild world out there (and of course stripping the names and junk out of the IP as you go) before deciding which follow up legion should get it's hands on it (with all the politics that comes with that).

Basically make the terran empire but not fucking pants on head retarded or evil for the sake of being evil and see how it would actually function in the star trek universe.

I never got the chance to really watch DS9 i remember like 5 episodes I watched these where:

<The one with the gambling aliens who teleport the officers into a game

<The planet of the warriors who fight and never die

<Lots of Ferengi episodes

<The holodeck episode where Sisko as a fictional James Bond like character gambles to prevent his death (the safeties where of) and talked to this James Bond like villain that he is on his sides and preses the button on his dooms day weapon to destroy the (fictional holodect) world. This pauses the villain and the rest of the crew has time to rescue Sisko

<The trip to Risa episode

<Some dominion episodes

So I decided to watch it from start to finish.

I was thinking S1 will be boring like watching paint dry.

There are some crazy episodes in S1 however its a handful of good episodes between mediocre ones.

I'm in S2 and the mix is some hood between loads of pointless and even boring ones.

Why are there so many episodes that are simply boring or uneventful.

02x10 Sanctuary

looks ok and is entertaining to watch however what even was the point of this episode?

Some aliens show up, they can not be understood by the universal translator (this could be a great idea for a episode however the translator translates them on its own = waisted opportunity).

The aliens are different.

These aliens are nasty.

They delude themselves based on some stupid old prophesy that Bajor is their homeland or place to go or something.

They want to go to Bajor.

Bajorans say NO.

one kid steals a shuttle or something for a unknown reason the shuttle has some defects and he explodes himself over Bajor on accidence.

The episode ends.

Rom was tolerable around the middle of the show, when he was the talented but autistic engineer that acted as Quark's hapless accomplice. It was only later that he turned into the writer's mouthpiece for the leftist agenda.

Well how would you fix this? I guess the most ferengi way is that there is always a tension between legal activity and illegal activity. So occassionally you get faggot nagus's and everyone basically goes yeah that's great and nothing changes outside of what's in the capital city until the blackmarkets align behind someone dealing in sizable chunks of money who basically makes them the 'darknegus'. Then things conspire (or maybe the darknegus just buys the position?. I kind of like the idea that yeah occasionally ferenginar goes thru periods of 'otherworld mania' until the greed takes over again.

has anybody tried to create a non CG version of TOS, much in the same way as the Harmy's Despecialized Edition was for the original star wars?

No CGI!

I want to see how they did the practical effects back in the day this is the most interesting part of TOS.

>I think I've even noticed certain edgy little background details in some episodes that I suspect they knew–ie intended–to be lost in the lack of clarity

Do you have any specific examples? I guess it's possible they would do this, following the same logic I've seen some of the LCARS panels from TNG at Star Trek: The Exhibition and they have little poems and shit in tiny font on the edges. They also had Q's judge chair which stank for some reason, maybe it had been stored in a damp warehouse.

I kind of like the new CG, but obviously it would be vile heresy if it outright *replaced* the original SFX Lucas-style, it's just cool to have it as an option.

I've been watching Enterprise, it's got some horrendous CGI. They should've stuck to matte paintings. (The second picture is what the first pic is supposed to be)

I don't know why they went full CGI on Enterprise. The CGI looks worse today because it was rendered in standard definition.

>What did he mean by this?

Londo is a prisoner of is own life. He is a patriot and has done everything right in life from a Centauri point of view, yet he can never be himself.

And even if he had the freedom to be himself, he wouldn't know what to do because he has shouldered his duties and responsibilities for too long without real rest.

It's stupid, but fun to watch just because of how fucking weird it can be.

>Farscape

See above more or less

Rigel was based and redpilled.

>Babylon 5

Decent.

>Red Dwarf

Hey at least it's not Doctor Who

>Stargate

Good movie, good early seasons–rare good sci-fi and Showtime titties. SGA was shit though.

>Battlestar Galactica

Premium acting and good special effects that hold up well, this came as a surprise if you watched reruns of the original BSG series on the SyFy channel as I did.

>Earth 2

One of the worst shows ever made.

>Space: Above and Beyond

Watchable, enjoy the plot and focus on the characters not the aging effects and you'll have a good time.
