has anybody tried to create a non CG version of TOS, much in the same way as the Harmy's Despecialized Edition was for the original star wars?

It was either that, or they were shot on low grade film to begin with. I don't remember.

Combining practical special effects required a lot of manual labor, most of the time the effects were filmed on larger or higher grade film so the editors could crop the elements as needed to fit into the frame. Layers would literally be glued together - "the box" effect you sometimes with old movies in HD - and the combined shots transferred to a dupe negative - with quality lose and embedded emulsion damage - that would integrate the final image to a single shot. The individual sources have been found for many of these instances, but you have to digitally scan each and recreate the composition manually by hand for each frame.

No CGI!

I want to see how they did the practical effects back in the day this is the most interesting part of TOS.

>I think I've even noticed certain edgy little background details in some episodes that I suspect they knew–ie intended–to be lost in the lack of clarity

Do you have any specific examples? I guess it's possible they would do this, following the same logic I've seen some of the LCARS panels from TNG at Star Trek: The Exhibition and they have little poems and shit in tiny font on the edges. They also had Q's judge chair which stank for some reason, maybe it had been stored in a damp warehouse.

I kind of like the new CG, but obviously it would be vile heresy if it outright *replaced* the original SFX Lucas-style, it's just cool to have it as an option.

The federation are basically Cardassians only the show has the propaganda blinders on for them and the viewers.

<Enjoy your holodecks and replicators

<Don't think about Section 31 or how it has the authority to vanish people

<Don't ask questions about elections or who is ruling this "federation"

<Hey look another holodeck program for you or a play for you to participate in.

<Yes be obsessed over this ancient earth story or learning to play this ancient earth instrument of music.

The guys in the federation are brainwashed workaholics and no one has any idea who and how rules the federation, they are perfect drones.

<Eat soma

Daily reminder that the Cardassians have entertainment centers they go with their families to.

Anything that is more socialist is more federation like. However the federation is not "humanity first" you speciest! :) Its a species melting pot unlike literally every other space empire who is racially homogeneous. And this is why the federation is bad.

>>33140

Yep so the logical solution is to get the communist revolution going kill the capitalists and take over the power. Inflation is only created by capitalists increasing prices.

Also your example doesn't work with anything

>give $1000 a month to everyone

So if rich people spend money it creates inflation? Or if a rich guy gives some of his money to some other guy it creates inflation?

Also its funny how inflation disproves liberterianism, inflation is only possible if the world is zero sum (it is) however liberterianism requires the world not to be zero sum.

Money is nothing more then coupons for limited resources. You have 100 guys and 100 water bottles. If you print more coupons and give them to one guy who takes all the water bottles lots of guys will be left without water bottles.

If you live in a world where 1 guy has 99 water bottles and the rest gets to share 1 bottle the solution to get more water is to kill the rich and take the water he is hording.

Any questions?

Let me make fun of your libertarian philosophy.

<What you think the world is zero sum?!

<That's wrong!

<How can you think that me printing money will magically make you poor?!

<How can that be?! There will be more money for everyone!

Exactly, robots will replace 99.99999999999% of us we either have a communist revolution or we all die.

UBI is only a attempt that will turn out to be nothing more then a capitalist trick.

We need full economic restructuring.

We can not be dependent on other nations because this will simply not work.

Also every environmentalist is to be exterminated (more resources for the rest of us :) yey ) their anti energy policy is anti all of us we need to utilize more energy technologies or we starve to death.

>>33144

Na its socialism, everything that sports government roads or the government fire department is socialism, you are already in socialism(and this is a good hing), socialism is not dying of starvation and having a society that is worth living in.

Socialism is the idea of the smurfs where everyone lives together happy and works for the betterment of everyone else or star trek.

Only an absolute idiot or psch would oppose that.

>moneyless

citation needed. Your liberterian blog who only creates strongman of socialism is a not a valid source.

See my post arguing ageist money is like arguing ageings numbers or mathematics. There will be a need to divide the resources and we use money to do this.

>VAT

Vat is a regressive tax. Literally no socialist is for increasing the VAT because the more poor you are the more you pay for food only.

Its not different form saying

<LMFAO lets tax the poor more LMFAO 99% tax on the poor 0.000001% on the super rich.

Ask leftypol if you don't believe me.

>by a simple Value Added Tax

OK that sounds retarded. So I buy 1 chocolate bar/m for $5 then after the tax the bar costs now $10 because yang says so. I need to pay $10 for the exact chocolate bar however I get a paycheck for $5 from mr yang.

How did I benefit from this?

Lets say someone has no money for a $5 bar. Now the bar costs $10. However he gets $5 in mail. Can not buy anything! Yang logic!

Yes its that stupid when you correct a monthly food budget and imagine it as 1 chocolate bar.

Well Star Trek's inconsistent and retarded economic system is basically a Redditor's conception of how socialism would work, so no, because socialism can't work like that. Yang's system won't work because he hasn't adressed the obvious problems that face socialism, the chief of which is the massive and accelerating free rider problem, since basically anyone on earth can walk into the US and start absorbing funds from the government (which are already in massive excess of 1000 dollars per person per month), and that's ignoring the massive foreign underclasses that are already there.

Yang proposes to pay for his program by cutting existing inefficient public benefits; if you actually believe the democrats (or most repubes) would EVER rollback the gibs under ANY pretense, I laugh at you.

219f07  No.24725[Reply]

Lets look honestly how Bajorans are in DS9.

They are superstitious shit throwing racists who are incapable of forming a society.

Case in point

"In the Hands of the Prophets"

Here we see that Bajorans are so backwards that they refuse the teaching about wormholes.

Not only this they will start their racist+religious shit instantly over this.

Not only do we get bombings and assassinations the other Bajoran racists will refuse to sell to humans because all Bajorans are fucken racists.

Now

"In the Hands of the Prophets" is a mild example we get wonderful* Bajoran behavior like the circle who thinks attacking non-Bajorans is a great way to make a point.

Considering all the assassinations and government overthrows I don't think Bajorans are capable of ever holding a stable government.

I don't see why any other species should simply not kick these savages in the teeth every time they start shit like this and think attacking non-Bajorans at every occasion.

Not only is this uncivilized its extremely retarded and delusional from these Bajoran extremists (are there even non-extremist Bajorans?) they seam not to realize they are the but joke of the galaxy and everyone can walk over them with exceptions of minor or non militaristic civilizations like the Ferengi.

Do these "fighters" really think antagonizing everyone else will make them better?

Or do they think they can single handedly win against every galactic super power?

Because the Cardassian used them for a dormat for a good while.

Do they have a fetish and hard on for being oppressed and occupied?

Was there even a point where Bajorans where not shit throwing savages in canon?

Weird thing is the writers of the cartoon originally intended the crew to meet angels instead of the goatman but the network said no despite that the writers said they had no anti-religious intentions for the episode. One of them even said in an interview how odd it was that the network didnt approve of the fleet befriending angels but were fine with them meeting a demon.

The explanation if my memory serves is that the Goa'uld can't be arsed to learn other languages so they just force everyone to speak english. A language from thousands of years AFTER the Goa'uld where driven off the planet, from a region thousands of miles from where the Goa'uld where hanging around (ancient egypt) and that evolved as a mishmash of several other european languages over thousands of years.

The original movie did it much better, with the locals speaking a decendant of ancient Egyptian and the aliens having their own language.

TL:DR The Stargate show was a lazy, half assed mess that should be forgotten.

>The Stargate show was a lazy, half assed mess

Yeah, I used to think the everybody speaking English thing was lame too… then I watched STD's first season, and realized no, it's absolutely necessary. You just can't expect most actors to competently deliver huge blocks of lines in some language they know nothing about. The end result isn't worth it.

STD did a LOT of shit badly, that they fucked it up hardly proves it can't be done.

Having a show entirely done in moonrunes with nothing but subtitles to guide you is how most of us prefer our vietnamese cartoons after all.

Moonrune subtitles work because it's the actors' native language. They can emote and express themselves with a great degree of precision, and as a result their acting is stronger in the language, since they understand every word and what they're supposed to emphasize. Klingon subtitles wouldn't work because the only people practiced enough in Klingon to command it as well as they do English are too autistic to be placed in front of a camera. If the actors don't have that proficiency, they're effectively memorizing gibberish instead of lines, and are unable to give their delivery with any nuance. This is why Trek is in English, and it's for a similar reason that Trek aliens always have rubber foreheads; if the lower half of the face were obscured rather than the upper, it would be much harder for them to perform facial expressions.

Interesting news and possibly a bad sign for the future of The Orville:

>Family Guy and The Orville creator Seth MacFarlane is leaving his longtime studio home at 20th Century Fox Television after more than two decades for a giant nine-figure television deal at NBCUniversal Content Studios. No one would comment but I hear the pact is for five years and worth at least $200 million.

Why is Data considered special by the Federation?

Kirk encountered that android making machine from that lost civilization. He also came across that entire planet of androids where he ended up marooning Mudd for his continued bullshit.

By the time of TNG though Data and his little extended family are treated like unique, irreplaceable creations that only Noonian Soong, Super Genius could ever hope to make from scratch.

This is just one more thing that makes me believe that TNG was actually a stealth reboot and not a continuation of the classic series.

TNG is what you call a soft reboot. It's technically in the same continuity, but you don't need context to understand it.

Because Data was built by a Federation scientist, not an ancient civilization. Data was made to be a unique person, and is technically under jurisdiction of the federation, not under some "lost civilization" or a random planet.

I think >>33290 is pretty much there, I think the idea is that Data is something that can be interacted with and understood at a very close level, rather than these weirdo random outside encounters which are nothing more than interesting footnotes in the continuing wacky adventures of the starship enterprise, data is long term observable, until that episode where longterm wasn't good enough and it was time to cut open the golden goose or cut the puppet strings if you will.

You can make the same argument for basically anything they make a big deal out of. Why are the Borg seen as so scary and advanced? They've encountered dozens of civilizations and creatures that they were literally helpless against, whereas the Borg went from existential threat to lame duck they had basic parity with with anti-climactic swiftness. And even in their first encounter they were at least able to slow the borg down.

Why is the question of underwear never brought up in Star Trek? Is it something uniform or personal across varying species? Is Cardassian underwear extract stretch to accommodate the Guls? Are Romulan pantsu extract frilly for the maids?

Also the original Star Trek was much more low key about the whole thing than the later series became. TNG was down right obnoxious about it sometimes.
