The very first episode to feature them was an early TNG episode, "The Wounded." That was the one with Captain Maxwell, the civilian Cardie ship that was totally not carrying weapons, and the jock strap helmets. They didn't get a proper first contact, just an offhand mention that they recently had a border skirmish with the Feddies. I'm guessing they were originally meant as a one or two-off species instead of a major power, which is why they never had a proper introduction.

Marc AyyLamo supposedly said he enjoyed Cardassians so much that he wanted to appear as them again. He gave a powerful several hour long speech during which the producers had to change their pants several times due to having arousal accidents that by the end they designed the whole race based around his physique and character.

Production company Paramount is in talks with S.J. Clarkson to direct the fourth installment in the rebooted film series starring Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto.

Clarkson directed episodes from TV series including "Dexter," "Bates Motel" and "Orange is the New Black," as well as the Marvel-based series "Jessica Jones" and "The Defenders."

I think it's something loike this, but more to do with subtle fashions in moviemaking itself? For example, every twenty years they release a new Pride & Prejudice, and it's not because the costumes are any different.

Several years ago I purchased "Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Special Longer Version) from a thrift store. It was the first time I saw the movie. I just discovered that this was an unofficial release made by ABC that had no input from the original creators. I am curious what major differences there were between versions. Did I watch a completely different version of the film?

>Here is a list of the footage that was added to the theatrical version to create the 1983 "Special Longer Version".

* Decker asks Sulu to take Ilia "in hand". He then gives her a brief explanation of the computer. Ilia reminds Sulu of her celibacy oath, and Decker tells Ilia "the captain didn't mean anything personally", and Ilia says she'd never take advantage of a sexually immature species.

* After the wormhole, and after Decker, Bones, and Kirk depart for quarters, there is another short Sulu/Ilia exchange about current speed and current heading. Ilia then confirms it. Both these scenes were apparently shot to provide a sense of romance between the two, but were cut to clear up Decker's same relation.

* Rather than Kirk saying, "Make your point, Doctor" when discussing the obsession with the Enterprise, there is one brief exchange, and McCoy gives his line in a medium shot, rather than a shot of the two standing side-by-side.

* During the attack on the Enterprise, the ship actually gets hit by an extra energy torpedo. We hear it, and the lighting also suggests it, but we never see it. Some minor scene extensions are added. There is also an alternate take of Spock's analysis.

* There is a short scene in which Spock reveals the frequency of V'Ger's transmission. This appears in the Director's Edition.

* Decker takes over Chekov after his hand is burned, and a female crew member takes over for him. Decker goes to help Spock, and we return to the theatrical footage of the second (or third) energy torpedo being fired.

* Chekov returns to his post after a humorous exchange from Bones, and Spock reveals that V'Ger emits more radiation than the Sun.

* The famous footage of Kirk shadowing Spock during the space walk sequence is included.

* There is an alternate take when Nurse Chapel gives the Ilia-probe Ilia's headband.

* The Ilia-probe mentions the creator is "on the third planet". She then removes the headbands, and asks why two carbon units have entered V'Ger. Bones replies that they wish to contact it. Decker asks if V'Ger has a problem with that, and Ilia says no. V'Ger will find out their purpose. Bones sPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

The 4th edition of the 8chan Cup is fast approaching. First kickoff is set for January 4th, 2019 at 08:00PM UTC and your board is a part of it. The Cup will be a 32 team tournament, first with a group stage followed by the 16 team Knockout Round, all to determine a champion board of the site. The 3rd editon of the Cup saw the debut of 15 different boards, all of which are returning to shoot for glory once again, amongst revived boards and a few new ones as well. The Cup is being defended by >>>/christian/, who grinded out a 1-0 victory in the Finals over newcomers >>>/ita/. Eternal powerhouse >>>/bane/ managed to claim 3rd place over >>>/strek/ (that's you) by stopping the Trekkies potent offense and pouring on four goals of their own. >Then there's the fact that there are basically no crew quarters, just bunks. Captain has no Ready Room, he just has an office that doubles as his personal quarters, and then there's the additional factor of the Defiant Class only having an infirmary instead of a full Sick Bay, which can only triage and stabilise patients, meaning they need to be transfered off the ship ASAP.

>Mess Hall is a small room with barely any space. Engineering is cramped, and has little room to manouveur in if it needs to be evacuated

> Alex Kurtzman Planning a New Star Trek Animated Series

> Development on any further Star Trek films appears to have stalled, but the franchise continues to prosper on CBS All Access. Apart from current titles, the network is planning to extend its reach beyond the live-action realm. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Alex Kurtzman revealed that another animated Star Trek series is in the works for the streaming service.

> “Our goal is to not only expand the definition of Star Trek and what has qualified as traditional Star Trek, but also to tell stories that are both self-contained in a very short period of time that also connect to the larger picture of what we’re doing, not only in Discovery but in the world building of Trek in general,” Kurtzman said. “And you get to tell these very intimate, emotional stories that are side stories to characters. So you get the benefit of the experience in and of itself but then when you watch Discovery you’ll see that these were all setting up things in the world of season two.”

> Kurtzman didn’t share any specifics about the new cartoon. But when it launches, it will be CBS All Access’ second animated venture after Mike McMahan’s (Rick and Morty) Star Trek: Lower Decks. That series offers a comedic take on the adventures of a Starfleet vessel’s support crew. “[Lower Decks] is totally different from anything we’re doing on any of these other shows and we decided to tell that story and make those people the heroes,” Kurtzman explained. He also indicated that additional animated shows are possible down the line. However, he insists that “each show has to have its own identity.”

>I might have to rewatch the episode but didn't they retcon Burnham's origin story? I thought her parents got killed by the klingorcs when they raided their colony but now it's the Logic extremists™ who did it?

I forgot about that part, but Memory Alpha says the nuKlingons were the ones to kill her parents, while after arriving on Vulcan, the Lawgic extremists were the ones to go full autism over her.

>Shortly after she arrived on Vulcan, Burnham was targeted by Vulcan logic extremists who believed that Humans were a threat to their logical civilization and who launched an attack on the Learning Center. The bombing left Burnham physically dead for three minutes, forcing Sarek to initiate a mind meld with Burnham in order to revive her. As a result of this, a portion of Sarek's katra remained inside her mind, which later allowed him to communicate with her across interstellar distances and the two to share physical sensations such as pain.

You'd think Archer carrying Surak's katra and whatnot would make the extremist parts of Vulcan non-existant, but whatever.

I think the STD writers completely misinterpreted the Syrrannite story arc. They weren't extremists, they were the scapegoats for the current Vulcans in power who were working with the Romulans.

I bet they didn't watch the episodes and only read the synopsis on Wikipedia and called it "research".

Do Romulans/Vulcans lactate? I doubt it's been established in the show, but I can see the Romulans losing/cutting the ability to lactate through their genetic overhaul (they can produce specialised infant nutrient broth easily enough to not need the natural stuff). The want to experiment with human breastmilk as a medical trial, looking to transfer human antibodies or installing a collection of modified human milkers on designated ships as a luxury/emergency food supply. In the first case a well travelled starfleet officer would have the best developed set of antibodies to pass on, and in the second case she could have been 'rescued' from a crashed or badly damaged federation ship. They'd probably consider running tests to find a way to maximise the subjects production both in quantity and quality.

How does that sound?

Wesley would be retconned out of the series completely.

he died of acute testicular torsion in infancy. Beverly considers it her single biggest failure.

Tasha Yar is cast by Rhonda Rousey, and she doesn't die or get captured by romulans to be their halfbreed broodmare. she plays bigger roles in the crew and we explore the troubles of her planet in more detail.

Title says it all.

I can't even say how much this angers me.

It's not that they fuck our beloved series (I'll spare you from list it all but you know what I mean), they also take away from us these small bits we even create on our own as fans.

Same as with the fan film production.

Really…fuck them.

Noticed that while there were threads for individual Trek video games, there wasn't a general thread up.

Thread should be self explanatory, discuss Trek Vidya, Mods for games, or games that would satisfy that Trek itch.

Here is the volafile link that often gets used. So far only Klingon Academy is uploaded but will add more games as good working downloads come available.

https://volafile.org/r/ck47j5am

>Why no Mega Link?

Mega is frankly shit; has a data cap and will delete files without warning.

Also since I cannot be bothered copypasta the BOTF thread, here's the link to it here

STO's single player is actually breddy gud, although the combat-heavy nature means it doesn't always feel very trekky.

Okay, maybe "breddy gud" is generous. But it could have done a lot worse (the combat actually feels vaguely like star trek with the redirecting shields and power allocation and all that), and considering it's free you're getting a nice deal.

Not exactly a Trek game, but it has a steep learning curve and all complexity that all /strek/ anons could appreciate. The new round just started today and is only 5 ticks into play so you haven't missed much. Here's a sample setup guide in case you're interested in setting up an account. Some appealing aspects include social engineering, back-stabbing, team strategy, long hours calculating attack and defense, and eventually sleep deprivation; in some cases lose of employment due to poor workplace performance or tardiness may occur. I'm in a team already, but if the first person here that signs up wants to make a "STREK" alliance, that would be cool for others who may want to place, or you can also apply to other alliances in-game.

// About planetarion: The game has been around about 20 years. The game uses a seven week format with one tick per hour for a total of 1177 ticks of play. The amount of time invested is up to you, a support planet building defensively may only need to login a few minutes two or three times daily, while competing for top ranks requires considerably more planning and participation. Being a scanner is a medium between the two, you will need to login more frequently (preferably at the top of the hour) to process new incomings and other scan requests for your ally, but requires less overhead than full competition.

// Free vs paid account: Support planets can perform sufficiently with a free account. Scanners benefit from pPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

If fags haven't seen already it's a thread where a season of TNG is rewatched where a brief review is given of each episode and a small dump of reaction tier images and webms are made. Feel free to join in and shitpost. Also if you have any requests for scenes you want webm'd make them here.

Rating Scale

Since fags asked for me to give a rating on an episode when giving an overview here's my rating scale before there is autistic screeching, well more so than usual.

Ratings Explained:

>0-1

Truly awful and do yourself a favor and avoid watching an episode with this rating.

>2-3

Bad episodes that while you could suffer through there is no real need for you to put yourself through such torture.

>4-5

The pass mark. Decent episodes that are okay but you really won't be upset if you miss them.

>6-7

Good episodes that are worth a watch. There is not really any reason to avoid them.

>8+

Truly great episodes that you must watch.

Pretty consistently terrible ratings. The episode with data's "daughter" in particular, it was just boring and dull besides being seriously stupid, with her constantly "learning" things she should've already known as well as spontaneously generating opinions while feigning "neutrality" (though I guess this is just a general flaw in the concept of Data's character to begin with, to be fair).

Also it's moral is shit, in that it implies a complex machine spontaneously becomes a person (an idiotic and naive opinion), as well as having a big-league stupid and perverse ending. The only entertaining bit of the episode is when the admiral arrives and starts talking some damn sense. Of course Picard starts with some sense as well, but soon enough he's parroting the position of the slack-jawed fool mesmerized by the magical computer machine. And if we forgot for a moment that a computer being conscious because of it's great number of processors makes as much sense as a motor being conscious because of it's great number of gears, that just makes the ending worse; well my daughter died, but that's okay, because I absorbed her mind into my own! This is some really sick shit, who thought that that should be the parting moment of cold comfort?

But besides that, some of the most atrociously shit taste I've ever seen. Bad ratings across the board, great episodes rated low (the defector was brilliant), shit episodes rated high ("The Picard, the Picard wants me to do this arbitrary nonsense! This is an accurate depiction of how myths and religions developed, not just a gay fedora pop-psych meme!" episode was terrible; same story as lal: gay, boring, stupid, etc). Incredible that you could be so wrong so consistently, well done.

But overall unironically good thread, thanks for taking the time to put it together.

I designed my rating scale just to trigger you anon.

>Data's Daughter is boring and dull

I think you missed the point of the episode incredibly. The ending I do agree was a bit dumb and I felt tacted on as it'd be too much a hit of the feels.

>Defector is good

It's good if you don't think about the episode at all but once you use a small modicum of brain power it completely unravels itself. There are far too many glaring plotholes that pop up that make absolutely zero sense unless the writers are blatantly admitting that Starfleet is a completely incompetent organization that would be unable to wipe it's own ass without assistance which might be true considering my feelings on Starfleet but it's a really tough pill to swallow

I am debating whether or not to continue onto Season 4 and do a writeup for Season 3 overall.
