Does anyone find it weirdly contradictory that the Federation had a death sentence for going to the Talosian's planet because they were afraid people would obtain their technology and become addicted to it. Then a few decades later the Federation develops their own eerily similar technology and puts it on all of their shiny starships?

Have we found yet another external force subverting the feds? We know that their planet was fucked and they were looking for new minds to provide suitable 'illusions' to entertain them … I'm pretty sure that the federation would cover up any work they were doing to terraform the Talos IV, is the federation using the holodecks to supply the Talosians with new entertainment? Do the Talosians enjoy watching shut in engineering crew boning holoreplicas of their colleagues?

Well, they do have a history of wanting to watch humans bone each other. That was most of the reason they captured Pike in the first place.

The question is was that law prohibiting contact with talos iv simply placed in the minds of the feds? Thats my interpretation. That law was was never voted on ratified or even proposed to the fed senate. It was simply ploinked into existence.

But that's not how Talosian illusions work. They can't just implant memories or urges into your head, they can only change your sensory perceptions. So in order for the Talosians to have ploinked that law into existence, they would have had to create the illusion of court proceedings to make people think it was a law and then put it into the books.

You'd think they'd get more out of the Ferengi in that case. They'd get a lot more out of them than the federation.

The problem with mastering illusion was your technological evolution came to a standstill. The talosions couldn't advance because it was easier to just fake everything.

If your illusory tech functions indistinguishably from the 'real thing' then in what way is it fake?
>Yes this illusory sensor system gives perfect reason for everything within a few dozen light years, but it's an illusion therefore it sucks and we don't care

It doesn't really. The Talosians had advanced holodeck tech. The Talosian turns into a monster while Pike chokes it and he just keeps choking, knowing it is fake. The implication is they are bad at everything else, given how badly they fucked up repairing that girl.

So Pike went back to Talos IV so he could live out the rest of his life pretending not to be a cripple with his old girlfriend who is pretending not be a burn victim?
And Spock just had to get him there?

Perhaps Vulcans just have an intense loyalty to their friends? Tpol was pretty damn loyal to Archer in a few instances as well. And Spock was about as close to Pike as he was to Kirk.
And presumably they also had medical tech that could uncripple Pike to some degree in addition to the illusions. I mean they do mention that they basically put burn victim girl back together after her ship crashed. So it's not just taking him to an glorified alien holodeck, it was also getting him better medical care.

The best part is the Talosians in TOS were all played by women with male voices overdubbed as a deliberate casting choice to make them seem more alien and give an effect of "antisexuality."
So in a way, STD is undermining its own "muh diversity" agenda by stripping out that interesting antisexual quirk and making them very blatantly male and female.

You can only be transgendered if there is something for you to be "trans-" from. If there were no sexes, then everyone would be cisgendered, which is obviously not acceptable.
