Same.
Apparently Stewart only signed because they promised that the Federation wouldn't be the one from the Berman-era (expect a lot of orange man bad and brexit references).

I don't know if i will be able to put myself through it. Modern narrative television is a lame duck, it feels like the so called golden age peaked 5 or 6 years ago and the only people riding the hype are actually riding coat tails.

Sometimes I wonder if it's because of all the wars with a draft. You get the majority of your future writers sent off to do dangerous, interesting shit, spending time with all sorts of different people in weird places, and in the end they can write better than someone who hasn't done anything more interesting than film school with the other rich kids they grew up with.

I think that 30 to 40 years ago TV was
really profitable, but with very little competition, so people were willing to put aside budget and schedule slots for risky ventures, and see if they make the next big thing.
I think, between the rise in Home Viewing, the internet and social media, studios are more risk averse, theres a much smaller piece of the profit pie available and they dont want to jeporadise the numbers, there is still some amazing things being written, its just that if it is being filmed, its sat at 300 views on some youtube channel or being played at your regional film festival amongst a sea of other horse shit.

Cultural decline is one thing, but it's moreso that the experienced writers weren't hired after the strike and didn't pass on their knowledge. The new generation of writers comes from a younger generation whose credentials come from writing or critiquing online, which doesn't necessarily translate into serious writing.

Pretty Fucking Terrible, Last episode the highpoint was a girl walking a labrynth. Painfully stupid, slow and un-entertaining. For example:
>>33440
This scene where the most diplomatic of captains (and now quite frail and out of his depth and he knows it) goes and starts a bar fight because the script says so because the writers didn't bother writing his romulegalos son as menancing and think body counts are star trek.
>>33444
This stupid cunt fills me with the rage that only pales by how stupid the writers, directors and funders are for this shit. Waiting for the emergency stupid fuck hologram to wake up and fucking vent her.

Can someone explain why the main girl's childhood memory is of an asian child and her mum is also asian?

I just assumed the actress is biracial. I've noticed a lot of white/asian mixed people look really extra asian as really young kids but start looking more white as they grow and the fat deposits in their faces shift around a bit.

Shes like a quarter pinoy, but pinoys themselves are partially white and not steroetypically asian looking whereas the mum and child both looked like fucking chinks.
