So I have decided to rewatch TNG from the very begining. Apart from forgetting how campy and slapstick it is at times I picked up on a few things that I felt like most fags will have missed. I mean really how the fuck did it ever get greelight when in the second episode it's showing disgusting filth like this?

Though it isn't all bad. Very first episode provides some sound advice for example. There is a hefty amount of patriotism indeed especially with Picard masturbating over the idea of French and nearly throwing data out the airlock for shitting on the French.

But even from episode 1 it's painfully apparent that while the special effects are impressive for the time they are clearly determined to reuse the same effect over and over again. Even goes far into the third episode they show they love their fake snow.

And then you get to what can only be described as a painfully apparent and awful use of a stuntman with a scene that if taken out of context makes it look like Data goes around grabbing young boys with the intent of raping them.

Yeah I've done up to 5 right now. I thought I'd go through each one and look for OC read waifus. I meant to do it with DS9 but each time I encounter a Garak or Dukat episode I kind of have a crisis
Now onto the third episode and it is loaded to the brim with sometimes cringeworthy slapstick although give us what looks like LtCdr Mommy and a Manchild. Crewman Manchild I think needs sent to his death next games.

What surprised me was that episode 4 was the SPACE KANGZ episode. I honestly remember this being a much later episode and thought it appeared somewhere mid season but I guess I was wrong. It actually is full of poz with Women overpowering men niggers. Really not spending much time on this episode although I could make some of Picard's verbal yelling at Data for insulting the French and Niggers getting BTFO.

I am not surprised though the fault resides in the people who actually decided to greenlight it.
Episode 5 is when the Ferengi is introduced and it should have been decent but it wasn't. I was tempted to make more content but these three webms alone I think sum up the entire episode.
This episode though is worth noting as it established the first of a long line of Worf Failures. He lost to fucking Ferengi.
Interesting though how the last two episodes setup Yar as a bigger badass than Worf.

There's a final thing I want to say that was painfully obvious from the first two episodes. Hello OP, I'm re-watching TNG too, I've just finished 4x02, what episode are you on? The first few seasons have some real stinkers but don't be put off.
Will you do me a favour? Can you note down a rating out of 10 for each episode, I'm doing the same - at the end of each season we can compare notes.
I'm also watching episode reviews by SF Debris - https://sfdebris.com/videos/startrek/t175.php he's pretty good even though I don't always agree with him.

the Enterprise-D canonically had multiple engineering chiefs immediately after launch. One could speculate plausibly as to why this would be, but in reality they just hadn't settled on the casting and were trying to judge fan reaction based on numerous very different characters. Pic related was going to get the role, then fucked himself out of it by orchestrating a fan letter campaign on his own behalf, which annoyed the producers.

Not just engineers, crew is all over the place at times. The only crewmembers that seem to have designated roles at this stage are; Picard, Riker, Crusher not the shitstain Troi and Yar. Most other characters it isn't exactly explained what they do.
Worf isn't even established as a punching bag yet. Data and LaForge's role isn't exactly clear on what they do. O'Brien just shows up out the blue as if he isn't sure why he is here in the first place like a person who wandering into the studio one day and got told he will be dressed up as an extra who's life is suffering. Few other minor characters that looked like they would play bigger roles later on that get cut. Need to make a list of them all I think.

If I was to come up with a rating system I'd split it simply into three categories.
Good, watchable and shit.
Out of 10 I'd say 0-3 would be in my shit episode section with 0-1 here being unwatchable, 4-6 would be watchable and 7+ as a great to must see. Thing is though I would still say I would need to go into detail as some episodes may be terrible but are so terrible they actually become funny to watch.
Episodes 1+2 - Encounter at Farpoint
>4/10
Reason I have rated this so low is that I am rating this two parter as one episode as the first half and end may be a solid 6 but there is honest to god a lot of filler and redundant scenes in it. It unfortunately drags on heavily and while Q was interesting all the momentum he built up was squandered after they reached farpoint cause they spent a lot of time shoehorning introduction to characters and technology in many ways that did not feel natural. This is what brings it down. Still watchable but you could easily cut a third of this two parter out and it would actually improve the episode.
Episode 3 - The Naked Now
>2/10
It contains a lot of forced and retarded slapstick at times which most you will end up cringing at. It's a very campy episode but it's not completely unwatchable and there are a few times you might actually smile. Just a very bad episode overall.
Episode 4 - Code of Honor
>2/10
Despite being the infamous SPACE KANGZ episode it's actually not entirely terrible. Some interesting stuff about culture and respect albeit it could have been done infinitely better. This episode is actually squandered opportunity. If for example it had been done using a race like the Klingons and fleshed them out instead of using KANGZ it could have been an easy 8.
Episode 5 - The Last Outpost
>3/10
Ferengi have been mentioned since the pilot and built up as being the Federation's main rival. Unfortunately absolutely nothing about them works and they come across as extremely silly. It's a episode that is so bad that it becomes unintentionally hilarious especially with the slapstick tier fighting. What brings it up at the end was the first mention and showing of the T'kon Empire which is an ancient civilization that was hyped up several times over TNG, being a key plotpoint in some episodes and actually was kind of interesting when they did appear but overall was forgotten in the grand scheme of things. It also marks the first time Worf got his assed kicked.

If you can't tell the screencaps are fro the latest episode I watched which was flatout garbage. Did at least provide me some OC though.
Episode 6 - Where no one has gone before
>1/10
This is the first truly awful and irredeemable episodes. The only reason it got a 1 was cause of the fact that it it did provide a few unintentionally funny scenes and there is actually a good scene with Picard when he meets his imagination in a hallway and asks some meaningful questions.
However it is just an episode that focuses on that insufferable shitstain known as Wesley and does everything it can to show how special and great he is. It's pretty much establishing him as a Mary-Sue. Although the correct term would be Gary-Sue I have yet to see evidence of Wesley having balls.

Episode 7 - Lonely Among Us
>5/10
The first part and the bit about the Selay and Anticans really have no impact or meaning on this story.
What brings this up considerably though is the sheer amount of shitposting material and the fact that data has discovered shitposting.exe
This could easily have been a 7/10 episode especially with a few good scenes sadly drowned in a lot of irrevelant crap.
Now stand by I have a lot to dump for this one. This episode was a treasure trove of reaction material.

Episode 8 - Justice
>2/10
I was half tempted to put it as a 1/10 but that actually is unfair to the rest of the episode. This episode overall could have been a 4/10 easily which would have put it in the watchable pile. It actually has an interesting message about what exactly is justice and if punishments fit the crime but it muddles it up and fucks it up at the end. Really Wesley is what kills this episode. He should have died. Still there is at least the Swole patrol.

>4/10
This is an episode that should have been a fuckton better than it should have been. If there is any words to describe this episode is that it is boring. It's not a bad episode at all it's just dull. I didn't even get that much OC out of this one other than Picard reaction pics it was that dull. Only interesting thing to talk about is for /tech/fag discussion in that the Stargazer Captain's chair actually secure the person in the seat and that there might be some banner potential in the Ferengi mind control device.

Totally agree. So much wasted potential. Bok is played like a cliche villain but the character is a father after his son's killer. If his actions aren't justified, which when you think about it they completely are, they're at least understandable and relatable. The episode should have played out like a tragedy.

The Battle is one of those episodes that was highly regarded when it aired but didn't hold-up (like pretty much every "good" S1 episode). If you come at it having seen later TNG or DS9, you wont like it but at the time it was pretty exciting. It was the first time we saw the Constellation-class model and we got Picard commanding a battle scene. I remember thinking that ghost crew was spoopy as fuck and it was nice seeing the Ferengi be legit threatening (which they rarely were before or since), but you're right about Bok being one-dimensional.
I officially concur with your 4, but would award it a weighted overall 5.5 or perhaps even a 6 in context, since it's going to be scoring a 7 or even 8 on visuals for the new ship model and re-introduced bridge set. Regarding the chairs, I'm pretty sure they came from the movies, just like the bridge set.
I agree about the mind control device and a banner. It seems like it needs to be cut with another scene though. Like, Bok cranks the device up and something unexpected happens,

The reason why I score it a 4/10 overall is because my scoring system does not trivalize high marks which I really want to reserve for truly great episodes which is represented in my latest review. Keep in mind a 4/10 is a passing grade in my system and something that is actually watchable it's just not the best of episodes.
That said I should clarify my review scale
0-1 is just flatout unwatchable
2-3 are bad episodes that you might want to skip
4-5 are episodes that are passable and you can enjoy a watch but you won't bust a gut to see them
6-7 is where it gets good and you will want to watch them
8+ are the great episodes which you need to watch
Episode 10 - Hide and Q
>7/10
This is perhaps the first truly good TNG episode. Q is great. Most characters are actually good apart from Tasha Yar crying like a bitch. Loads of decent scenes and memeworthy scenes. There is a lot of subtle hints of an overarching story getting planted here which is actually a first for a Star Trek show. There's a few moments where Q seems legit worried because Picard appears close to sussing him out especially when there is talk of "Gods" and maybe humans one day reaching such a stage.
Even without all these plot details it gives an overall enjoyable episode. Here is a mountain of OC to dump.

Episode 11 - Haven
>5/10
Now I am probably going to get a lot of autistic screeching for this but I honestly believe Lwaxana Troi is not a bad character. In fact if anything she alone is what brings this episode up. I went into this episode fully expecting to hate it but I actually enjoyed it. It might be because when you are younger you find Lwaxana annoying, like that fun Aunt who won't shut up but in this case she really is a fun presence on the screen who if you actually pay attention to has some very sharp wits about her. Everything she does is calculated and designed to give a desired effect. If anyone has read a Jane Austin novel you might get a better idea and newfound appreciation of her.
Overall though it wasn't enough to be a good episode but there is enough there to stop it being bad. Plenty of things to shitpost about like the fact that the person Troi is meant to marry is a manlet, Riker being cucked, Lwaxana shitposting heavily.

Episode 12- The Big Goodbye
>2/10
This actually started out as a 5/10 but degraded heavily as time went on. It's pretty much the first of the infamous holodeck episodes. The start of the episode was fun and I swear the reaction of Riker leaning forward when it was suggested that the holodeck could be used for more was priceless. Unfortunately this episode just drags on and I kid you not they spend a good 10 minutes standing in one scene doing pretty much nothing. Overall if I was describe this episode with one word I would call it "filler"

Episode 13 - Datalore
>5/10
This was insanely close to being a 7/10 but a lot of shit in the episode is fucking retarded and Wesley is beyond annoying holds it back. Quite literally Picard is cautious as fuck then decides for virtually no reason to let his guard down other than the plot demands it. The episode felt like it needed to explain Data and Lore more, and Lore honestly felt at times he should have a goatee and/or twirling a moustache. If I was to describe this episode with an analogy it was like the ingredients to a nice meal prepared by someone who did not know how to cook. It did not quite fall into place like it should have. Still it told Wesley to shut up. Twice.

The card they played was that shutupwesley was not native to their planet and some shit and therefore not be subject to their law, in hindsight it really comes off as a low grade Lethal Weapon 2's
DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY!
unfortunately without a spehs Murtaugh shooting soyboy in the head.
I know during the era the unspoken message of the episode that not so subtly asks "sure you live in a sexy idyllic planet that rivals Riza, but the merciless application of it's black and white law is like Singapore x 9000, so is this really, paradise tho' really?". And looking at the current shit where I am now, I'd say yes, fuck yes give me that not only sexy but clean! (breaking a garden fence = injection, littering=lethal injection, my locale should adopt that practice instead of bringing in more ragheads) planet where people are genuinely fearful of breaking the law instead of the insanity of dinduism.

Remember S1 of TNG is incredibly silly in its looks and motives.
S1 are the aborted ideas from TOS in TNG form.
S2 and after have a completely different tone.
Also remember that TNG Ferengi are nothing like DS9 Ferengi. Because TNG Ferengi are competent while DS9 Ferengi are Space Jews.
DS9 ruined the Ferengi.
>In "The Last Outpost", we were introduced to the Ferengi. Gene Roddenberry originally envisioned the Ferengi as the Federation's primary foe, to take the place of the Klingons and Romulans. This was part of the sea change in Star Trek's underlying theme, which was being revised from the 1960's Cold War to a left-wing liberal tirade against consumerism and capitalism. But the Ferengi were not simply greedy; they were powerful, mysterious, and dangerous. The very first Ferengi warship we ever saw was powerful enough to dice with the Federation's biggest, most powerful battleship, and its crew was highly aggressive. Despite their small stature, they were able to surprise and defeat a Federation landing party on the ground. Their appearance may have been odd, but these were clearly not people to be trifled with.
>When they reappeared in "Peak Performance", they were similarly threatening. They dropped out of warp at point blank range, opened fire on the USS Enterprise, and promptly disabled most of its combat systems. They demanded the surrender of the derelict USS Hathaway, and when Picard (seemingly) destroyed it rather than surrender it, the Ferengi captain grudgingly complimented him by saying that "I did not think the Federation had such iron!" A rather warrior-like sentiment, is it not? Similarly, Picard once recounted the story of how he lost his previous command, after his ship was reduced to a flaming wreck by a Ferengi warship. This is a far cry from the cowardly Ferengi of DS9, isn't it? But in every appearance, the Ferengi made reference to a profit motive, and that was more than enough to plant the brain bug.
>By the time the Ferengi showed up on DS9, their interest in profit had grown to encompass their entire culture. They were suddenly interested in nothing but the accumulation of wealth, and the writers' desire to simplify every alien society into a one-note joke meant that any non-financial elements of their society (including the strong martial tradition that was obvious from their initial appearance in TNG) vanished without a trace. Now, they were a laughingstock in combat, and they made frequent disparaging references to their own combat ineptitude. When Nog elected to join the Federation military, the decision was treated with shock, contempt, and derision by his relatives because Ferengi are businessmen, not soldiers. When Quark went on a mission to rescue his mother, they found a single Ferengi mercenary who was good with weapons, and the others acted as if he was some kind of freakish anomaly. What happened to the heavily armed Ferengi warships we saw in TNG? Did the writers suffer a massive collective amnesia attack?
>As time went by, this brain bug continued to grow. Not only was greed now the only defining characteristic of Ferengi society, but the writers figured they were on a roll, so they even made it the Ferengi religion! Instead of the Ten Commandments, the Ferengi had the "Rules of Acquisition", with which the viewers were bludgeoned with constant reminders of Ferengi greed. Instead of "astral plane" or "holy ghost", they had the "Great Material Continuum". We were told that the Ferengi had no loyalty to anything but money; not to friends, not to family, not to king and country. No one ever managed to explain how a society could possibly function along these lines, but no matter; the writers obviously had no interest in constructing an interesting or multi-faceted alien society for the Ferengi. Far from it; instead, they seemed to be interested in reducing it to a single element, just as they had done for the Klingons. By the time they were done, another society had been transformed into a farcical one-note caricature by the unfettered growth of a brain bug. Planted in TNG, and grown to the proportions of Jack's famous beanstalk in DS9.

Well it's back to bad episodes with a vengence.
Episode 14 - Angel One
>2/10
To sum up in a nutshell this is planet of the Soyboys mixed with Feminazi's and also the second of "we caught the plague" episodes. I am not even sure where they were going with the plot of this episode cause it seems to have no clue what to do with itself. It is like they had an idea but did not write nearly enough content to stretch a quarter of an episode so they shoehorned in everyone catching a bad case of the flu and hoped to fill the gap and nobody would notice. It's sad cause this episode could have touched a few good nerves with the hefty sexism from every female character in this episode. Just was not nearly brave enough I think and while not unwatchable this episode will make you cringe more so for the wasted potential than everything else.
Also Riker used the Kirk maneuver and tried to dick his way out of trouble.

I wish it honestly covered it in more depth. It felt too light as it were and the virus plot did not feel like it did anything to the story and was just thrown in for the sake of adding tension. I just didn't think it worked well as an episode despite having a lot of good ideas in it. Also the virus spread by smell which was kind of retarded.

>4/10
I think I might be a tad generous here though it did give me a lot of reaction pics which I will dump after this post. It's the first of the "Enterprise being overpowered by fags that shouldn't stand a chance" trope. Bynars which I've spelt wrong in pics, sue me were vaguely interesting and actually raise an interesting point especially with current society if this is who we will become if we keep getting addicted to technology. To sum up this episode though it's Riker discovering he can put his dick in the holodeck with Picard later stopping him spreading too much seed and impregrenating the ship computer somehow while the Bynars manage to steal the ship cause the crew was too incompetent to notice. Not a bad episode but not exactly a good episode. It does have some nice scenes especially when Picard and Riker move to get shit done but that's about it.

Keep an eye out for a cameo from Riker's holographic realdoll much later in the series. Minuet may be gone, now just deleted data and a puddle on the holodeck floor, you know Riker recreated her at least physically and pissed everyone on the ship off tying up the holodeck for an entire weekend railing the holy fucking shit out of it. this is canon but she is not forgotten.

Here is my rating of the episode.
75%
Fun to watch however the aliens make no sense.
Its a silly aliens idea from TNG.
Oh look lets make make aliens based on computers.
Computers use Binary its 1s and 0s!
Lets make the aliens walk in pairs of 2 because Binary and 1s and 0s!
Oh the aliens hack the computer to use its HDD to save some files because their planet will get EMP from the sun.
Why did they not ask for help?
Because in binary there is only 1 or 0.
Because binary and 1s and 0s!
It makes as much sense as us writing only in 010101010111 here because computers, I also like to see the writers comment why the aliens can not use fuzzy logic despite that fuzzy logic is used and implemented on our binary computers today.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fuzzy_logic
The episode is fun to watch however massively absurd there is logic in
We get the enterprise to use it to save our people.
However the original idea of the aliens is classic 80s TV silliness.
Fun to watch and make fun of today.
You trying to project a message of warning to technological addiction is you projecting things on one line of dialog thrown out.

I think this is perhaps one that I did not remember being this good and it probably took me by surprise. This turned out to be a really good episode and helps not only to flesh out the Klingons but fleshes out Worf as a character which is something that kind of badly needed to happen with a lot more characters in the first season. >6/10
This is perhaps the best episode of the ones everyone has forgotten about. It's a good action episode but perhaps not really the best of Trek episodes. I am not sure how they would improve it but I felt it could have been a much stronger episode than it was. Plenty of meme material in this episode and plenty of stuff that could make a good banner.

Drugs are bad m'kay? That's basically what this episode is about and it sort of drags on a fair bit. Despite giving me a mountain of shitpost material and finally Removing Yar I actually didn't think this was a good episode. In fact I felt it dragged on and was trying at times to be a tad edgy. The Tar monster certainly was an edgelord and I hated every minute he was on screen. You could easily avoid this episode and forget Tar ever existed and it would be fine. All I could feel watching this was wishing it was over.

I only gave it a 2/10, having another creature with god-like powers seems like lazy writing to me. Tasha Yar's death seemed senseless and befitting of a red-shirt from TOS.

Episode 24 - We'll Always Have Paris
>2/10
This feels like an episode they did not spend nearly enough time fleshing out and writing but it was given the greenlight anyway. Even then I feel at best it would be a filler episode but never a good one. Seems like they wanted to flesh out Picard a little but he didn't really need it and this episode just felt a tad dumb and dull at times. To sum up this episode in a nutshell it's about Picard's former waifu he does not seem to actually give a proper shit about.

Episode 25 - Conspiracy
>5/10
This is going to be an odd one as the problems with this episode is not the episode itself but with the series. It suffers badly by how Star Trek episodes are constructed i.e. each a self contained story you could watch independent of other episodes. There is virtually no build up to this episode which it badly needs so a lot of it's impact gets lost. This needed to be part of a 4+ episode arc, not a 2. You could easily forget this episode exists and it won't have that much impact on the show. Overall it felt like they took a big gamble with this episode and wanted to build up something grand but failed. It needed far more characters than what was involved, more defined and real stakes. Twist and turns, keeping the audience guessing who was friend or foe. In short it needed more.
Nevermind the dated puppet effects.

Episode 26 - The Neutral Zone
>9/10
Made almost as if they knew Conspiracy didn't work in production and blatantly knew that the Ferengi didn't work as a villian so made this episode a desperate attempt to unfuck the shit. And it works. Really well. Guess stars are not entirely annoying for a change. There is a real tension and atmosphere produced in this episode with the threat of Romulans. Romulans are truly intimidating in this episode and it also sets the tone that there is a mystery afoot with the first indication of the Borg. The D'deridex class is imposing as it should be but also gives an wiff of that it is intimidating but it's bark might be worse than it's bite. I think this episode also works much better if you are a fag that watched TOS and take what you thought of the Romulans especially their ships and see what they've become, it would take you completely aback. Oh and this episode has Gul Dukat in it so take from that what you will.
The 20th century fish out of water characters are pretty much the only real downside to this episode but even they did not hold it back really. After a season that was average at best this episode pretty much saves it and makes you want more indicating that things will definitely get a lot more interesting.

And that's it for Season 1. I'll probably give it a week before I start on Season 2 in a new thread so not to clutter shit up. There's plenty I've missed out so if fags have anything they want me to screencap or webm list the episode and I'll try it.
If I was to give an overall score of Season 1 I would probably give it a 4/10. It surprised me in not being entirely bad and there are some decent watchable episodes of it but nothing that majorly stands out as a "Must Watch" apart from The Neutral Zone. You could probably skip it and not miss much or fail to understand what is going on. It felt like a bunch of ideas that was good on paper did not translate well to the screen followed with filler episodes recycled from rejected TOS episodes. Characters badly needed to be established more I would say and apart from Picard, Riker and Worf I did not feel others got the screentime they needed. Yes I would say even Data needed a bit more fleshing out.
Anyway before I leave what are we going to do with this thread now we've been summoned? >>>/qanon/2348
