Texas AG sues Pfizer over quality-control lapses in kids' ADHD drug

(Reuters via PiQSuite.com) - Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton accused Pfizer and its supplier Tris Pharma of providing children's ADHD medicine that it knew might be ineffective to the state's Medicaid insurance program for low-income people, in a lawsuit unsealed on Monday.

The lawsuit, filed in Harrison County, Texas District Court, alleges that Pfizer and Tris manipulated quality-control testing for the drug Quillivant XR in order to obtain passing results from tests it was required to perform under federal law between 2012 and 2018. Properly done tests frequently showed that the drug failed to dissolve as it was supposed to, a sign that it would not be released in the body as expected, the lawsuit said.

Trump's Washington Election Trial Must Be Televised, Media Coalition Argues

A coalition of media outlets wrote Friday that the 2020 election trial for former President Trump should be broadcast.

A coalition of mainstream media outlets argued that the 2020 election trial against Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump should be televised live to bolster "public trust" and that the U.S. Constitution mandates it.

"Of all trials conducted throughout American history, this one needs the public trust that only a televised proceeding can foster. Because the Constitution allows—indeed requires—such access here, the Federal Rules cannot prohibit it," the lawyers for media organizations including the New York Times, CNN, and The Associated Press wrote on Friday in a court filing.

The coalition's lawyers wrote the media outlets are acting on "behalf of millions of Americans who have an unprecedented interest in observing—for themselves—the prosecution of former President Donald Trump" during the trial, which is scheduled to start in March 2024.

Federal rules have long stipulated that courts bar cameras from being inside courtrooms. During President Trump's arraignment in the Washington case, no cameras were allowed inside the building.

The media outlets' lawyers also appeared to criticize President Trump after he "characterized this action as bearing 'all the unfortunate badges of a trial in an authoritarian regime, lacking legitimacy or due process.'" The lawyers then claimed that this comment goes against "the very legitimacy of this proceeding" and "only underscores" the need for the American public to watch the trial.

During a campaign event in New Hampshire last week, President Trump told a crowd that he wants the trial to be watched by "everybody in the world."

"I want everybody to see all of the horrible things that took place, all of the horrible charges ... and let's let the public decide because I want cameras in every inch of that courthouse," he said.

But federal prosecutors recently objected to requests to have the trial televised, claiming it would turn it into a political circus.

"He desires instead to create a carnival atmosphere from which he hopes to profit by distracting, like many fraud defendants try to do, from the charges against him," Mr. Smith's team said in a legal brief to U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan.

Local and federal rules bar "the relief the Applicants seek" to allow cameras in the courtroom, prosecutors wrote, adding that attempts to overturn such rules have been rejected many times by courts in the past. The court should deny the applications, they wrote.

“Paired with the ever-increasing acrimony in public discourse, witnesses and others who appear on video may be subjected to threats and harassment,” Mr. Smith’s team argued. “Even the knowledge that their images will circulate on social media may temper a witness’s initial testimony.”

The Fight For Free Speech: YAF & The Judiciary Committee Hearing

On Wednesday, November 8th, the House Judiciary Committee held a formal public hearing to expose the depths of free speech suppression on college campuses. Colleges are supposed to be places where students are taught HOW to think, not WHAT to think, but I guess university administrations missed that memo.

This hearing couldn't have come at a better time as the landscape on college campuses is showcasing a concerning trend. According to polling from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, 47% of adults say liberals have “a lot” of freedom to express their views on college campuses, while just 20% said the same of conservatives.

And this isn't just a few leftist students being creatively rebellious against their conservative peers either, this is a top-down issue coming straight from administrators.

All cellphone service and data in Gaza will shut off in a week unless an Israeli blockade on the entry of fuel into the enclave is lifted, the CEO of Paltel has told The New Arab.

A telecommunications blackout would both cut Gaza’s communication with the outside world, as well as suspend phone and internet services within the enclave itself.

Israel has carried out a brutal aerial and ground assault in Gaza since 7 October which has killed almost 10,000 people, including more than 4,000 children.

Israel has cut electricity to Gaza and prevented any fuel imports into the territory, claiming Hamas could divert fuel supplies away from civilian use. Humanitarians have pleaded for fuel imports needed to keep hospitals, shelters and telecommunication technology running to be allowed into Gaza.

Witchcraft charges dropped in Glasgow child abuse case

Allegations of witchcraft have been withdrawn in the trial of 11 people accused of sexually abusing children in Glasgow.

Prosecutors dropped eight of the original 32 charges but allegations of rape and sexual abuse remain against all the accused.

Five are also charged with attempting to murder a young girl.

All 11 accused have denied the allegations at the High Court in Glasgow.

A charge that adults made children participate in classes involving witchcraft and seances was withdrawn when the Crown finished presenting its case on Friday.

The allegation had also stated that they used a Ouija board in order to communicate with spirits and demons.

Iain Owens, 45, Elaine Lannery, 39, Lesley Williams, 41, Paul Brannan, 41, Marianne Gallagher, 38, Scott Forbes, 50, Barry Watson, 47, Mark Carr, 50, Richard Gachagan, 45, Leona Laing, 51, and John Clark, 47, deny all of the allegations against them.

The trial continues and is expected to resume on 23 October when defence lawyers will present their case.

Admiral Lisa Franchetti Confirmed to Navy’s Top Ranking Position

The Senate confirmed Adm. Lisa Franchetti as the 33rd Chief of Naval Operations, the Navy’s high ranking position, on Thursday.

This historic appointment makes her the first woman to hold the Navy’s top military leadership position, as well as the first woman member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

President Biden nominated Adm. Franchetti for the role in July, but her confirmation remained on hold due to Senator Tommy Tuberville’s ongoing blockade of military nominations. Nevertheless she assumed the responsibilities of CNO in August, while serving as Vice Chief of Naval Operations. Adm. Mike Gilday, the previous CNO, concluded his four-year tenure and handed over the position in a ceremony at the United States Naval Academy on August 14, 2021. Gilday became the 32nd CNO in August 2019.

During the ceremony, Gilday expressed his confidence in Adm. Franchetti’s qualifications and leadership abilities.

“I am proud that she will be my CNO,” said Gilday. “She is a Fleet Sailor, an operator, a warfighter. She has already made the Navy better as our Vice Chief of Naval Operations, the Navy is in good hands with her at the helm.”

As a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the CNO serves as an advisor to the President of the United States, the National Security Council, the Homeland Security Council, and the Secretary of Defense. The CNO is responsible for the command, resource utilization, and operational efficiency of naval forces and shore activities, under the direction of the Secretary of the Navy.

The South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services (SCDPPPS) will again enforce a statewide curfew for some registered sex offenders on Halloween.

The curfew will be in place from 5:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31, according to officials. It applies any person on probation, parole, or another form of community supervision for a sex offense whose crime is against a child, according to officials.

‘Libs of TikTok’ owner had threatened to sue the Anti-Defamation League for defamation

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) has removed Chaya Raichik, a conservative influencer who runs a web of ‘Libs of TikTok’ social media accounts, from its list of extremists. Raichik, who is herself Jewish, said the move came in response to weeks of legal threats.

“The ADL finally caved after immense pressure and threats of legal action and REMOVED my name from their Glossary of Extremism!” the activist wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.

“Just goes to show that the ADL knows I’m not a violent extremist. The decision to put me on their 'Glossary of Extremism' was all political theater,” Raichik wrote, describing ADL as “a propaganda tool of the radical Left.”

The “Glossary of Extremism” is one of several blacklists hosted on the ADL’s site. Raichik had previously given the group a deadline of October 31 to remove her name and accompanying profile, arguing that her inclusion in the list alongside “terrorist” groups like Hamas amounted to defamation.

In an op-ed for Human Events last month, she claimed she was being unfairly targeted for “speaking out against wokeness, far-left indoctrination of children, and the medical mutilation of minors under the guise of gender ideology.”

Raichik’s name appeared on the ADL’s blacklist last September, in response to her viral exposé on Boston Children’s Hospital and other prestigious medical institutions advertising and performing transgender surgeries on minors

Was researching tunnel warfare last night after questioning if existence of tunnel mapping tech (LiDar, GPR, other Tesla tech kek), and came across an interesting tidbit.

In 2017, the US Army, under urgent request, compiled an updated manual on underground/tunnel warfare, effort led by the Army’s Assymetric Warfare Group. Spec Ops alone wasn’t ready to handle tunnel warfare by itself. Researching again tonight.

Learning to fight underground

To prepare combat units, the Army has activated mobile teams to train the leadership of 26 brigade combat teams on how prepare units for underground warfare and plan and execute large-scale combat operations in the subterranean environment.

So far, the effort has trained five BCTs based at Fort Wainwright, Alaska; Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Camp Casey, Korea; and Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington. Army trainers have a January deadline to finish training 21 more BCTs located at bases including Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Fort Drum, New York; Fort Bliss and Fort Hood, Texas, and Fort Richardson, Alaska, the source said.

The 3rd BCT, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson, Colorado is next in line for the training.

Army officials confirmed to Military.com that there is an approved plan to dedicate $572 million to the effort. That works out to $22 million for each BCT, according to an Army spokeswoman who did not want to be named for this article. The Army did not say where the money is coming from or when it will be given to units.

China & Russia Criticize Israel As Putin Arrives In Beijing To Deepen Ties With "Dear Friend" Xi

Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Beijing Tuesday where he's meeting with his "dear friend" Chinese leader Xi Jinping for the third international Belt and Road forum.

It marks Putin's first trip outside of former Soviet Union countries since the International Criminal Court issued a warrant for his arrest in March - something which impacted his travel to South Africa for the August BRICS summit. Instead he addressed the summit remotely, while Xi, Modi and others were in Johannesburg.

Xi and Putin are expected to hold lengthy formal talks on Wednesday, while Tuesday night Putin is attending a welcome dinner hosted by the Chinese leader, according to China Central Television.

To some degree, the international spotlight and pressure surrounding the Ukraine war has been taken off Putin as the world's attention has shifted to rapidly moving events in Gaza and Israel.

Xi and Putin had last met in the Chinese capital in early 2022, just three weeks before Russia's invasion of Ukraine was launched on Feb. 24.

Both are now expected to find common ground on criticizing Israel's actions, and will likely renew calls for a ceasefire in Gaza. Over the weekend China's foreign ministry blasted Israel's actions as collective punishment against Palestinians.

"Israel’s actions have gone beyond self-defense and it should heed the call of the international community and the Secretary-General of the United Nations to stop its collective punishment of the people in Gaza," Foreign Minister Wang Yi told his Saudi Arabia counterpart Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in a Sunday call.

Daniel Robert Hokanson (born June 27, 1963)[1] is a four-star general in the United States Army who currently serves as the 29th chief of the National Guard Bureau. He previously served as the 21st director of the Army National Guard. Putin explains why Ukraine rejected 2013 EU agreement

The Russian president claims the Association Agreement effectively called for the destruction of all of the country's industry

The EU-Ukraine Association Agreement essentially envisaged the death of all Ukrainian industry, Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed. The ratification of the accord was put on hold in late 2013 by then-President Viktor Yanukovich, which sparked the Maidan coup that led to his overthrow.

The new Ukrainian government signed the agreement in 2014.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Putin said: “If you read what the EU proposed to Ukraine, this is what is apparently being realized now – this was tantamount to the destruction of all key industries that the Soviet Ukraine once prided itself on.” The president added that “we now see exactly that there’s nothing left there already.”

According to Putin, Yanukovich was weighing Kiev’s options and simply postponed the ratification of the agreement with the EU in 2013.

In an interview with Politico late last month, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmigal said Kiev expects full EU membership within two years, and will not settle for anything less. He cited the “huge price” his country has paid to join the bloc.

Shmigal went on to pledge thatUkraine will “not be bringing problems” to the EU, but will be a helpful addition. Former Head of Boro Park Shomrim Society Sentenced to More Than 17 Years in Prison for Transporting a 15-Year-Old Girl With Intent to Engage in Sexual Activity

Jacob Daskal, the former head of the Boro Park Shomrim Society (the “Shomrim”), a private, Orthodox Jewish crime-patrol group associated with the New York Police Department, was sentenced by United States District Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis, to 210 months in prison and a $250,000 fine for transporting a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity. Daskal pleaded guilty to the charge in July 2023. As part of the sentence, Daskal is required to register as a sex offender.
