Exclusive: D.C. Residents Fear Crime Surge Turning Area into U.S. War Zone

Many Washington, DC, residents cannot walk their dog, enjoy a local park, or pick up groceries without fear of being stabbed, robbed, or gunned down in the District, a 68 square mile area that local residents described as a “war zone” to Breitbart News.

Just this week, five homicides occurred in 35 hours in three separate highly trafficked areas of the city: Benning neighborhood in Southeast, Capitol Hill in Northeast, and Brightwood in Northwest. One of them entailed a former Democrat staffer for a District council member. Another shocking incident occurred Monday when four men jumped out of a car in the well-to-do Wharf neighborhood with guns drawn to rob restaurantgoers, Metropolitan Police Department footage showed.

Crime soared in 2022 after U.S. Attorney for D.C. Matthew Graves refused to prosecute 67 percent of those arrested. In turn, 222 criminal homicides occurred in 2023, a 35 percent increase from the same period in 2022, according to police statistics. The District eclipsed 200 killings on August 12, the earliest point since the late 1990s.

The District currently ranks 173 in safety on a list of 182 American cities, dropping from last year’s 168 spot, according to a study recently released by WalletHub.

Several District residents shared their crime stories with Breitbart News but asked to remain anonymous due to fear of retribution. One District resident recounted how he suffered a minor concussion in 2023 after juveniles assaulted him while walking on the Metropolitan Branch Trail in Northeast. The incident occurred near the H Street corridor, located just north of the Capitol Building. Residents in the area often see storefronts smashed and homeless defecating on the sidewalk.

“Unprovoked, one of the juveniles ran up behind me, launched himself into the air, and slammed his fist into the back of my head,” the D.C. resident said. “It took the police fifteen minutes to reach me at the NoMa-Gallaudet Metro Station — an unacceptable amount of time. Even though the group could see me on the phone with emergency services, they continued to casually walk down the trail out of sight, with the assumed knowledge that there would be zero consequences for their actions.” ...

Following detailed discussions with President Biden on recent escalations by Iran and its proxy forces across the Middle East Region, today I directed a series of additional steps to further strengthen the Department of Defense posture in the region. These steps will bolster regional deterrence efforts, increase force protection for U.S. forces in the region, and assist in the defense of Israel.

First, I redirected the movement of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group to the Central Command area of responsibility. This carrier strike group is in addition to the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group, which is currently operating in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. It will further increase our force posture and strengthen our capabilities and ability to respond to a range of contingencies.

I have also activated the deployment of a Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery as well as additional Patriot battalions to locations throughout the region to increase force protection for U.S. forces.

Finally, I have placed an additional number of forces on prepare to deploy orders as part of prudent contingency planning, to increase their readiness and ability to quickly respond as required.

I will continue to assess our force posture requirements in the region and consider deploying additional capabilities as necessary.

At least six Palestinian journalists have been killed amid Israel's ongoing shelling.

Journalist Saeed al-Taweel, editor-in-chief of Al-Khamsa News website, and two other members of the press were killed early on Tuesday as they went to film a building that Israel would soon bomb in Gaza City.

Al-Taweel, Mohammed Subh and Hisham Alnwajha had been standing at a safe distance when an air attack hit a building closer to them.

The crew was wearing flak jackets and helmets clearly identifying themselves as members of the press.

Two other journalists, Ibrahim Mohammad Lafi and Mohammad Jarghoun, were fatally shot while reporting on Saturday, according to the Palestinian press freedom group MADA and the Journalist Support Committee (JSC), a non-profit that promotes media rights in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, freelance journalist Mohammad el-Salhi was shot dead on the border to the east of Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) reported on Saturday.

But the children’s answers – in Hebrew and subtitled in English – are serious. As they climb all over tanks, sit at machine-guns positions, or explain how to use a hand-grenade, Rose asks them their views.

Without hesitation, the children express their readiness to kill. Asked what he imagined when he was sitting in a tank, one boy answers, “I picture a dead Arab.”

Of course, these children are no more ready to kill than any other children, nor can they be any more capable of understanding the import of their words, at least not yet.

The children in Rose’s film bring to mind the notorious image of Israeli schoogirls writing messages on artillery shells about to be fired into Lebanon during Israel’s 2006 assault that killed more than 1,200 Lebanese civilians and devastated much of the country.

This is never a reflection on the children, but on the adults who subject them to such ugliness.

Many Washington, DC, residents cannot walk their dog, enjoy a local park, or pick up groceries without fear of being stabbed, robbed, or gunned down in the District, a 68 square mile area that local residents described as a “war zone” to Breitbart News.

Just this week, five homicides occurred in 35 hours in three separate highly trafficked areas of the city: Benning neighborhood in Southeast, Capitol Hill in Northeast, and Brightwood in Northwest. One of them entailed a former Democrat staffer for a District council member. Another shocking incident occurred Monday when four men jumped out of a car in the well-to-do Wharf neighborhood with guns drawn to rob restaurantgoers, Metropolitan Police Department footage showed.

Crime soared in 2022 after U.S. Attorney for D.C. Matthew Graves refused to prosecute 67 percent of those arrested. In turn, 222 criminal homicides occurred in 2023, a 35 percent increase from the same period in 2022, according to police statistics. The District eclipsed 200 killings on August 12, the earliest point since the late 1990s.

The District currently ranks 173 in safety on a list of 182 American cities, dropping from last year’s 168 spot, according to a study recently released by WalletHub.

Several District residents shared their crime stories with Breitbart News but asked to remain anonymous due to fear of retribution. One District resident recounted how he suffered a minor concussion in 2023 after juveniles assaulted him while walking on the Metropolitan Branch Trail in Northeast. The incident occurred near the H Street corridor, located just north of the Capitol Building. Residents in the area often see storefronts smashed and homeless defecating on the sidewalk.

“Unprovoked, one of the juveniles ran up behind me, launched himself into the air, and slammed his fist into the back of my head,” the D.C. resident said. “It took the police fifteen minutes to reach me at the NoMa-Gallaudet Metro Station — an unacceptable amount of time. Even though the group could see me on the phone with emergency services, they continued to casually walk down the trail out of sight, with the assumed knowledge that there would be zero consequences for their actions.”

Another local resident who lives in Navy Yard told Breitbart News that President Joe Biden should pay attention to the “war zone in his backyard,” noting, “Washington, DC, is about as close as you will get to an American war zone in the U.S., and it’s only getting worse,” he said. “That’s hardly hyperbole; I’ve lost all sense of safety and security, and I live in one of the ‘better’ neighborhoods. I guess that’s what you get when you leave governance entirely to Democrats and a few socialists.”

If hostilities break out with the United States, Tehran may try to minimize risk to its most important assets in the Middle East by drawing on black ops units further abroad instead.

After Iran shot down an American drone in the Gulf last month, U.S. forces were reportedly ten minutes away from firing missiles at Iranian targets when the President suddenly called off the attack. The missile strikes would have killed too many Iranians, he later said, adding he was in no hurry to attack Iran but that “our military is rebuilt, new, and ready to go.” U.S. officials insist that a “full range of options" remain on the table to deal with Iran’s malign activities, including military options.

But those military options could have significant implications for the security of Washington’s allies in the region, including Israel, especially as they relate to the activities of Iran’s increasingly capable proxies. As tensions spike between Iran and the West—especially over oil sanctions and freedom of navigation in the Gulf—Iran has been able to draw upon its network of militant proxies to carry out attacks on Iran’s behalf. In the words of former IRGC commander Gen Mohammad Ali Jafari, “The upside of the recent (conflicts) has been the mobilization of a force of nearly 200,000 armed youths in different countries in the region.”

Overseen by the IRGC’s Qods Force, this informal “Shia Liberation Army” includes Iraqi Shia militias, Yemeni Houthi rebels, and of course Lebanese Hezbollah. Houthi rebels have targeted Saudi airports, border towns, oil facilities, and even targeted a Saudi warship using an Iranian-designed remote-controlled boat filled with explosives. Meanwhile, Iraqi militias have fought in Syria, reshaped the Iraqi political and security landscape in Iran’s favor, fired rockets at U.S. diplomatic and military facilities in Iraq, and carried out a drone attack targeting Saudi oil facilities. Iran loaded rockets into launchers on Iranian commercial boats in the Gulf in May, just weeks after U.S. intelligence determined Tehran told its proxies to prepare to take a more confrontational approach to the U.S.

Israel is very much within these proxies’ crosshairs as well. “If the U.S. attacks us, only half an hour will remain of Israel’s lifespan,” threatened Mojtaba Zolnour, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Commission.

Hyperbole aside, Iran has reportedly begun providing Iraqi Shia militia groups with precision missiles capable of hitting targets anywhere in Israel, perhaps to compensate for the attack platforms Iran lost in Syria as a result of Israeli airstrikes. Recently, press reports claim Israeli jets targeted Iranian missile shipments in Iraq that were meant to be transferred on to Hezbollah.

SHOCKER: Feds Sound the Alarm on the Potential Infiltration of Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), and Hezbollah in US Southern Border

Federal officials have sounded the alarm on the potential infiltration of members belonging to Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), and Hezbollah through the southern border, as highlighted in an internal memo dated Oct. 20, exclusively obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

The recent conflict between Israel and Hamas, which escalated with terror attacks on civilians on October 7, has the federal authorities on high alert.

The San Diego Field Office Intelligence Division of Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sent the memo warning about potential encounters with members linked to terrorist organizations in the US Southern border.

“San Diego Field Office Intelligence Unit assesses that individuals inspired by, or reacting to the current Israel-Hamas conflict may attempt travel to or from the area of hostilities in the Middle East via circuitous transit across the Southwest border,” the memo reads.

“Foreign fighters motivated by ideology or mercenary soldiers of fortune may attempt to obfuscate travel to or from the US to or from countries in the Middle East through Mexico,” the memo adds.

This new development comes after Rep. Jamaal Bowman and other leftists are already calling on the United States to take in Palestinian refugees from Gaza.

FBI Director Chris Wray issued a dire warning about the rise of violent extremism.

“Before I get into some of the specific ways we’re doing that work together, I want to take a moment to offer my heartfelt condolences to the people of Israel, and share the outrage that I know we all feel at the sheer brutality and disregard for innocent lives there,” said Wray.

“History has been witness to antisemitic and other forms of violent extremism for far too long. Whether that be from foreign terrorist organizations, or those inspired by them, or domestic violent extremists motivated by their own racial animus, the targeting of a community because of their faith is totally unacceptable,” he added.

Wray indicated that there has been a significant uptick in reported threats following the attacks, cautioning the public to remain vigilant for “lone actors.”

Virginia Democrat Susanna Gibson’s bid for a seat in the state legislature took a broadside. It got buried because of a slew of bad news, not least the Israel-Hamas war, but she got busted for the sex shows she posted online. Gibson, a nurse practitioner by trade, chose to get in on the video cam game with her husband, posting numerous videos to the adult site Chaturbate. She claims this is some revenge porn plot by her political enemies when in fact she posted the videos. This is the Internet, lady. It doesn’t matter if they were archived or removed from the site—someone would find them.

Her poll numbers reportedly cratered, with every Virginia Democrat rushing to scrub their social media pages featuring images of Gibson at their fundraisers. This election isn’t for federal office. Gibson is running for a House of Delegate seat, and it’s not worth defending her porn shows for tokens. Yet, she could also be facing another issue: election fraud (via Daily Wire):

The Democrat running for the Virginia House of Delegates who infamously raised money by selling sex acts online might not be eligible to be on the ballot at all — one of the forms she filed to run for office appears to have a fake signature on it, and is being investigated by authorities.

The Louisa County Sheriff’s Department is investigating whether someone else signed the filing for Democrat Susanna Gibson, and whether the notary who swore she watched her sign it — a paralegal at her husband’s law firm — might have committed perjury.

The document says that “knowingly making any untrue statement or entry in this document is a felony under Virginia law. The punishment is a maximum fine of $2,500 and/or confinement for up to ten years. Also, you lose your right to vote.”

The signature on Gibson’s Certificate of Candidate Qualification looks nothing like her signature on another election document, the Statement of Economic Interests conflict-of-interest form.

Additionally, the suspicious signature is dated February 13, whereas notary Donna L. Martin attested to verifying Gibson’s identity and watching her sign it on February 14.

Martin, reached at the Law Offices of John David Gibson, hung up the phone abruptly when The Daily Wire asked about her stamp of the document.

Supreme Court Temporarily Green-Lights Biden Admin Conspiring With Big Tech Censors

Free speech supporters got both good news and bad from the Supreme Court on Friday. The court agreed to look at whether a far-ranging censorship scheme directed by the Biden administration violates the U.S. Constitution.

However, the court blocked a lower court’s temporary restriction on federal agencies’ participation in that scheme until the case is decided, expected to be sometime before the end of June. Abstract

No matter how unlikely it may seem, radical Leftists and Islamists have come closer in recent years. Drawing on substantial ideological interchange, and operating at both state and non-state levels, the two movements are building a Common Front against the United States and its allies. In this article, we use framing theory to examine the contemporary convergence of political Islam and the radical Left. Both radical Leftists and Islamists have utilized the master frame of anti-globalization/anti-capitalism and the master frame of anti-colonialism/anti-imperialism to elicit support from the widest possible range of people. The emerging Red-Green alliance presents a complex challenge that will require careful attention from U.S. and European policymakers.

The war in Israel may send a million Palestinians to America. Progressives are already calling for the country to open up its borders to these Muslim migrants. Squad member Jamaal Bowman said last week that the country must open up its arms to Palestinians.

Jamaal—yes, that’s Jamaal with two A’s for “affirmative action”—Bowman recently stunned the nation with the claim that he accidentally pulled a fire alarm in the congressional building: “It was a dumb choice, but it is what it is.”

Jamaal’s call to bring in potentially millions of new Palestinian refugees is arguably even stupider than his fire alarm defense. At a time when our southern border records over 200,000 migrants per month, it may seem like the wrong time to invite more in—especially when they hail from a terrorist hotbed.

But it turns out that terrorist sympathizers help bring the migrants here. It was revealed this week that Homeland Security asylum officer Nejwa Ali previously worked for the Palestinian Liberation Organization, a body designated by the government Ali works for as a terrorist group. The PLO press office she worked for was expelled from the country by the Trump administration. She went to work for the feds shortly thereafter.

Ali is also a big fan of Hamas, using her social media to praise the Palestinian jihadi attacks on Israeli civilians.

The Daily Wire:

Several of Ali’s posts glorifying the terrorist attacks include the statement, “Respect our existence, or expect resistance. Simple. No Apologies,” a suggestion that as long as Israel exists on what she considers occupied land, attacks on civilians are acceptable.

Jews seeking to come to America might have a hard time if Ali were their immigration officer. “Israeli, American privilege is disgusting. When Israelis acknowledge the government and military are solely responsible for the attack. Period,” she wrote. “I hold every Israeli accountable for their governments [sic] actions, IF they do not speak against Israel.”

On October 9, she posted to Facebook: “How Nejwa wakes up,” accompanied by a video captioned “F*** Israel and any Jew that supports Israel” and a photo that says “A nation that has nothing but Allah has everything it will ever need.” She also added an anti-Semitic cartoon of a Jewish nose.

Ali’s story should make Americans wonder: Who are the types of people welcoming immigrants into our country? It may surprise readers to learn that ostensibly Christian charities are responsible for bringing foreigners to small towns throughout America. The government works with nine volunteer agencies for refugee resettlement, five of which are nominally Christian. The nine are:

• Church World Service (CWS) (Christian)

• Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM) (Christian)

• Ethiopian Community Development Council (ECDC)

• Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) (Jewish)

• International Rescue Committee (IRC)

• Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services (LIRS) (Christian)

• US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI)

• United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) (Christian)

• World Relief (WR) (Christian)

Much attention is paid to the Catholic Charities and their efforts to aid migrants—legal and illegal—in America. Less attention is paid to the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, a group that was instrumental in bringing Somalis to Minnesota. One of those Somalis, incidentally, is the terrorist-sympathizing congresswoman, Ilhan Omar. LIRS is proud of this connection, boasting about it on Facebook.

LIRS, like the other charities, isn’t a mere non-profit. It’s an appendage of the US government. Over 80 percent of its funding comes from the federal government. In 2018, it received $41,631,000 in state assistance. The other agencies, with the exception of HIAS, also receive the majority of their funding from the feds.

LIRS proclaims itself as guided by a fundamental Christian purpose. Its description on the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America’s website reads:

We are a church that does God’s work in the world and in local communities pursuing justice, peace and human dignity for and with all people.

In partnership with Lutheran congregations and Lutheran social ministry organizations, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service has welcomed more than 379,000 refugees to the United States since 1939. This ongoing partnership and work is driven by God’s love for all people and a vision for congregations to be welcoming and generous centers for mission and ministry…

The labour and communist movement in Iran is 71 years old, and this includes the 51 years of the of the Tudeh Party of Iran, the party of the Iranian working class. Since its formation the party has been the main target of attacks by internal reaction and the imperialist forces, who were dominating the political life of the country in order to plunder its vast natural resources. Our party, during all these 5 decades, has been allowed to operate legally for only a few years. The party has been outlawed by various governments and Tudeh members sent to torture chambers and firing squads; yet the party has relentlessly continued its struggle, remaining loyal to the lofty ideals of peace, democracy and socialism.

The Formation of the Tudeh Party of Iran

Reza Shah had entered into a secret alliance with Nazi Germany, giving Hitler bases in Iran for an attack on the Soviet Union and had turned down allied requests to close down these bases.On 25 August 1941, the Allied Forces entered Iranian territory. Reza Shah was forced to flee and the British succeeded in bringing his son, Mohammad Reza to power. Taking advantage of the vacuum created after the events of August, the Tudeh Party of Iran was formed in September 1941 to continue the work of the banned Communist Party of Iran under conditions of open activity. Following the collapse of Reza Shah's dictatorship, with the new conditions prevailing, a large group of political prisoners were released. These included Dr. Arani's group (known as the Group of Fifty-three) who adhered to the communist ideology. The first foundation stones of the Tudeh Party of Iran were laid by these communists. On 29 September 1941, the founding conference of the TPI was held in Tehran under the chairmanship of Soleiman Mohsen Eskandari, one of the renowned combatants of the national liberation movement. This gathering elected a provisional committee of fifteen members which issued a declaration outlining the Party's programme in principle and announced that the Tudeh Party of Iran was being formed in order to achieve democracy, safeguard the independence and national sovereignty of Iran and to endeavor to bring about urgent reforms in the interest of the people.

However, LIRS isn’t even run by a Christian. Its current president and CEO is Krishanti (Krish) O’Mara Vignarajah, a Hindu woman with impeccable globalist credentials. She was born in Sri Lanka and came to the U.S. as a child. She has degrees from Yale and Oxford. Early in her career, she worked at McKinsey. Later on, she became a high-ranking staffer in the Obama administration. She worked as a senior adviser to Hillary Clinton and John Kerry at the State Department.

She finished her time in the administration as Michelle Obama’s policy director. In 2018, she ran unsuccessfully for Maryland governor, earning a measly 8.2% in the Democratic primary.

She then took her talents to LIRS in 2019. The group was troubled upon her arrival. The previous president was fired for mismanaging the group’s funds, which primarily come from taxpayers. Vignarajah appeared to put things in order and bolster the group’s connections to the corridors of power.

In a 2022 speech delivered at the University of Maryland, Vignarajah argued she had more power to bring migrants to the U.S. in the nonprofit world than in the federal government:

Through her experience as a nonprofit executive and senior in the White House and State Department, Vignarajah offered significant insights into the challenges and opportunities provided by both sectors. As a government leader, she recalls immense influence and ample resources to address policy issues.

However,she encountered much greater bureaucratic and political limitations compared to her current work in the nonprofit sector, in which she feels she is better able to “speak truth to power.” Her experiences in both the nonprofit and government spaces have fueled her passion for cross-sector collaboration.

In the same speech, she complained about the Right’s views on immigration and how it’s imperative to correct this “misinformation.” She also shared her view thatimmigrants are the real Americans:

Vignarajah also shared her current priorities in immigration policy. In her work, she has found negative, misinformed narratives at the root of nearly all immigration issues. When examining statistics and economic data, she sees some arguments, such as increased crime and unemployment as a result of immigration, do not hold up. Despite this, addressing false narratives surrounding the impact of immigration remains a prime challenge for policymakers working in this space.

“The general perception that is really so problematic is this ‘otherness,’” explains Vignarajah. “Unless you are part of the indigenous community or someone in your family was forced here through slavery, someone in your lineage made a decision to come to the United States. I think that’s where it’s important to understand the truth, which is that ‘they’ are ‘us.’”

Vignarajah has kept up cozy relations with those in power.In 2021, LIRS hosted Secretary of State Antony Blinken for an event to promote refugee resettlement. Blinken made sure to inform the audience that he and Vignarajah had worked together at State:

Krish, thank you very, very much. And it’s – first of all, it’s wonderful to see you again. For those of you who don’t know, Krish is a former part of our State Department team. I’m so glad that you’re continuing your remarkable service in this capacity.

Vignarajah’s tenure at the State Department working under both Hillary Clinton and John Kerry is interesting for a number of reasons. In order for refugees to be resettled, they must first be created, and few secretaries of state created more refugees than Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton was a major proponent of US involvement in the Syrian Civil War on the side of the so-called Sunni Rebels (which included Al-Qaeda and ISIS), resulting in the creation of nearly 7 million refugees.

The Syria catastrophe wasn’t even Clinton’s worst. She is rightfully most notorious for her intervention in Libya and for the assassination of Libyan dictator Qaddafi. This has created a power vacuum and a situation of chaos that persists to this day. Here is Hillary cavalierly laughing about Qaddafi’s assassination.

The removal of Qaddafi has created a dark and booming industry of human trafficking of refugees into Europe.

All of which sets the stage for what Libya is today:A trading floor for African lives. Since Gaddafi’s demise, no coherent government has taken control of the country. The political void has been filled by armed groups—including Islamists affiliated with ISIS and al Qaeda—competing for territory. But in terms of economics, Libya has devolved into a primitive state. In addition to oil, it now trades in humans.

Although most of the refugees created by Hillary Clinton’s foreign policy misadventures were dumped into Europe, a healthy number had to be resettled in the United States, of course. Luckily, the State Department was just as obliging in resettling refugees into America as it had been in creating them in the first place—aperverse system in which Vignarajah played an integral role.

Indeed, refugee resettlement, particularly of Muslim migrants, was a major priority around the time Vignarajah worked there. In 2015, the State Department announced it would dramatically increase refugee intake over the next two years. Donald Trump curbed this increase upon assuming office in 2017.

Vignarajah was deeply critical of Trump’s efforts to keep out migrants from terror-ridden Muslim nations. In 2020, she was included among the voices deeming it an “Islamophobic” policy.

Krish O’Mara Vignarajah, CEO of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, said in a statement that the ban is devastating for “thousands of men, women and children whose only beacon of hope is the safety and prosperity that America can offer.”

“We are grateful to leaders who are trying to mitigate and prevent the damage these policies have done and restore our role as one of the leading advocates for protections for all vulnerable people, regardless of their country of origin,” said LIRS’ Vignarajah in her statement.

Vignarajah celebrated Biden’s elimination of the travel ban in early 2021, saying it turned “the page on this dark chapter in American history.”

Vignarajah and her group became theface of the volunteer effort to settle Afghans in America following the Taliban’s takeover in 2021. She was interviewed on Sunday morning talk shows, cable news, public radio, and several major print publications. She wrote op-eds on the subject for the Washington Post and USA Today. Vignarajah was the go-to source for the media’s effort to persuade Americans to welcome tens of thousands of unvetted Afghans.

She chastised Congress for not being generous enough to Afghan migrants. Her justifications were obviously inflected by her deep state loyalties to the State Department. She claimed that not doing enough for the Afghans will hurt America’s global standing, an item of key importance to those who care for the Globalist American Empire’s success:

To the media, she painted an extremely rosy picture of the resettlement process.

“In the last year, we have undertaken a Herculean effort of resettling tens of thousands of Afghans into communities all across the country.

It’s really been an all-hands-on-deck mission. And it’s really been inspiring to see how everyone from veterans to civic groups to faith communities, have pitched in,” said Krish Vignarajah, CEO of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services.

“Our new Afghan neighbors are slowly but surely settling in. We see how relieved they are to be safe, to see them finding a sense of community and to see how hopeful they are for the future.”

But the actual picture wasn’t so rosy.Many Afghans demonstrated their cultural differences upon arrival and committed horrific acts.

Still another evacuee is awaiting sentencing after a jury found him guilty of groping a child. He defended his actions to investigators, saying it was part of his culture to hug and kiss children.

These people are being dropped off in small towns with the help of agencies like LIRS.Your tax dollars pay for them to settle in and upend local cultures.

But that’s the whole purpose refugee resettlement, according toVignarajah. In a 2022 interview with Baltimore magazine, she made no reference to God or the Biblefor why her group wants more immigrants in small towns. She instead sees immigration as a vehicle for cultural enrichment, a necessary response to climate change, and thesolution to declining white birthrates.

Moon Io from Spacecraft Juno

There goes another one! Volcanoes on Jupiter's moon Io keep erupting. To investigate, NASA's robotic Juno spacecraft has begun a series of visits to this very strange moon. Io is about the size of Earth's moon, but because of gravitational flexing by Jupiter and other moons, Io's interior gets heated and its surface has become covered with volcanoes. The featured image is from last week's flyby, passing within 12,000 kilometers above the dangerously active world. The surface of Io is covered with sulfur and frozen sulfur dioxide, making it appear yellow, orange and brown. As hoped, Juno flew by just as a volcano was erupting - with its faint plume visible near the top of the featured image. Studying Io's volcanoes and plumes helps humanity better understand how Jupiter's complex system of moons, rings, and auroras interact. Juno is scheduled to make two flybys of Io during the coming months that are almost 10 times closer: one in December and another in February 2024.

J.K. Rowling declared she’d rather go to jail than submit to “compelled speech” as the European Union steps up its censorship efforts.

The popular Harry Potter author has come under an intense barrage of hatred in recent years after her refusal to deny the biological reality that there are only two sexes: male and female. Now, as the European Union (EU) looks to crack down on free speech online with the Digital Services Act (DSA), Rowling has again tackled the issue of free speech, insisting she’d rather face a court case and potential jail than buckle to enforced narratives.

While the UK is not part of the EU, the UK Labour Party has a plan to criminalize non-LGBTQ-approved speech. The war for free speech is intensifying in Europe.

On Oct. 17, Rowling posted on X (formerly Twitter) an image of a message projected on a wall, saying, “Repeat After Us: Trans Women Are Women.” The term “transgender women” refers to biological males. Rowling’s brief comment on the message was an emphatic, “No.”

Musician Scott Spalding responded by referring to the socialist Labour Party’s plan in the UK, where Rowling is from, to penalize “misgendering” with up to two years in prison. “Vote Labour, get a two year stretch!” he posted, replying to Rowling.

Rowling answered, “I'll happily do two years if the alternative is compelled speech and forced denial of the reality and importance of sex. Bring on the court case, I say. It'll be more fun than I've ever had on a red carpet.” She then appeared to joke with another X user about doing laundry in prison. But sadly, the war against free speech in Europe — seemingly now more than ever — is no joke.

The Harry Potter author has been targeted numerous times by the cancel culture mob over her comments dispelling the left’s radical “transgender” narrative. A number of the actors from the Harry Potter movies criticized her. Rowling’s name was even removed from places including a museum exhibit and even the Harry Potter book covers printed by one bookbinder!

Why Israel Must Invade Gaza, Lessons From Vietnam

If there is any one single lesson from America’s first lost war – the Vietnam War – it is that tunnels can play a pivotal role. That lesson informs today’s war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip and explains why there can be no security in Israel without the total destruction of Hamas’ Gaza “terror tunnels.”

During the Vietnam war, the Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops used an extensive tunnel system in and an around Saigon (now Ho Chi Minh City) that stretched for more than 150 miles to the Cambodia border. They literally prosecuted their war right under the noses and boots of American and South Vietnamese troops.

From these “tunnels of Cu Chi,” several major military operations were launched, including the devastating 1968 Tet Offensive that put the American command on its heels and turned the tide of the war. These tunnels were also a synergistic adjunct to the infamous Ho Chi Minh trail that delivered troops, supplies, and weapons from North Vietnam through Laos and Cambodia to the Viet Cong with devastating efficiency.

On a daily basis, the tunnels were used to bivouac troops, set booby traps, and mount surprise raids, sometimes inside the very perimeters of American bases (most devastatingly, Ton Son Nhut Air Base.) It took the American military command until 1966 to recognize the seriousness of this lethal threat, and the response was beyond inadequate – brave American “tunnel rats” armed with only pistols and flashlights were sent fruitlessly into the breach. Without an effective tunnel response, we never stood a chance.

Comes now a terror tunnel complex crisscrossing the Gaza Strip every bit the rival – and every bit as dangerous as Vietnam’s. To understand the breathtaking scope of Hamas’ tunnels, one must first understand the Gaza Strip is only 25 miles long and 3.5 to 7.5 miles at its widest. Yet, beneath its 141 square miles, there lies more than 300 miles of pure tunnel terror.

Hamas, itself, boasts this tunnel complex is twice the size of that in the Vietnam War – and equally well-equipped with food, power, barracks, and hospitals. At least some of this vast system extends right into Israeli communities along the border – frustrated Israelis have complained to their own government about the noise of the digging.

Within Gaza, many tunnels also are inter-connected with schools, hospitals, and mosques and are part of the Hamas pattern of using civilians as masks and shields for their terrorist activities. Many tunnels also house the massive rocket operations that Hamas regularly conducts against Israel – thousands of rockets can be easily moved through the tunnels and remotely detonated.

As Israeli ground troops mount their offensive in the Gaza Strip, it will be this tunnel complex – along with Hamas’ leadership – that they will seek to destroy. This will be anything but easy. ...

Shortly after Israel was savagely attacked by Hamas terrorists, a popular meme appeared showing former President Donald Trump in silhouette in a Batman-esque bat signal with the line: "The entire world right now." Under Trump, "peace through strength" wasn't just a suggestive mantra; it was a governing imperative. Trump understood that when the United States is weak or is perceived as weak, the good guys retreat, the bad guys advance, and the wheels come off the world.

Trump also knew that by putting America First, our allies and our adversaries would understand that he meant business: If the American people or interests were threatened, there would be an overwhelming U.S. retaliatory response. This kept the bad guys in check and allowed the world to enjoy relative peace, stability and prosperity.

Enter President Joe Biden, who, like most Leftists, put America Last. He rejected the moral and practical necessity of American strength and embraced feeble irresolution. He has projected constant weakness, equivocation, ineptitude and moral bankruptcy. The result has been an explosion of global instability, increased adventurism from existential threats like China and Iran, hot wars in Ukraine and Israel, and the advance of anti-American and anti-freedom forces around the world.

Chevron Corporation (NYSE: CVX) announced today that it has entered into a definitive agreement with Hess Corporation (NYSE: HES) to acquire all of the outstanding shares of Hess in an all-stock transaction valued at $53 billion, or $171 per share based on Chevron’s closing price on October 20, 2023. Under the terms of the agreement, Hess shareholders will receive 1.0250 shares of Chevron for each Hess share. The total enterprise value, including debt, of the transaction is $60 billion.

The acquisition of Hess upgrades and diversifies Chevron’s already advantaged portfolio. The Stabroek block in Guyana is an extraordinary asset with industry leading cash margins and low carbon intensity that is expected to deliver production growth into the next decade. Hess’ Bakken assets add another leading U.S. shale position to Chevron’s DJ and Permian basin operations and further strengthen domestic energy security. The combined company is expected to grow production and free cash flow faster and for longer than Chevron’s current five-year guidance. Anyone who’s been even slightly tuned into politics over the years knows that ==Joe Biden is a slippery, self-serving politician=. Republicans appear to have found the missing link to tie Biden to his family’s criminal business empire, and they’ve got their evidence: a $200,000 check from his brother’s fraudulent business venture.

According to bank records obtained by the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, President Joe Biden received a check for $200,000 from his brother James Biden on March 1, 2018 — the same day James Biden’s health care company, Americore, wired a loan of the same amount into the personal bank account of James and his wife Sara.

In January 2020, the FBI raided the home of Americore’s CEO Grant White and a rural hospital in Pennsylvania that the company was operating. After the company declared bankruptcy, a filing from a federal trustee accused White of “improperly siphon[ing] money from the Debtors for his personal benefit.” James Biden, who had business cards listing him as a “principal” at Americore, and two business partners promised to deliver as much as $30 million in investment money to the company that never materialized, according to White.

Further, a lawsuit alleging fraud against James Biden and his business partners, notes that James Biden heavily touted his brother’s political connections as a reason he could obtain money from foreign investors. According to the lawsuit from Tennessee businessman Michael Frey and his partner Dr. Mohannad Azzam, they took out loans to invest in Americore with the assurance that they would be paid back when Biden helped secure investments from Dogan Holding — one of Turkey’s largest conglomerates.

White also affirms that James Biden was trading on his brother’s political connections. “[Biden told me] there’s not a single door in the country that we can’t open. So if I wanted to meet, you know, the head of Google, it’s a phone call,” he told The Federalist in 2020. “He always represented himself as the fundraiser for his brother’s campaigns… he was the guy raising the money and so he knew everybody.”

Despite the fact that Americore was having cash flow issues, White told The Federalist Biden pushed the company to improperly divert $650,000 from the company to him in the form of personal loans…

Things just got very real for Biden. The Republicans were looking for a “smoking gun,” and it seems they’ve found it. This revelation follows a string of polls that show President Trump beating a very weary and confused Biden.It makes you wonder if Democrats are the ones providing Republicans with the “evidence” needed to take down Joe, paving the way for a replacement like Newsom.

Fresh analysis of the bits of our moon, brought home by Apollo 17 astronauts, has suggested our moon is 4.46 billion years old — 40 million years older than we previously thought.

That puts the moon's birth at 108 million years after the solar system formed; previous estimates had placed it within 60 million years. The scientists behind the analysis say a more precise age helps us better understand the history and evolution of the moon, as well as Earth.

"Without the moon, life on Earth would look different," study co-author Philipp Heck, a professor at the University of Chicago, said in a statement. "It's a part of our natural system that we want to better understand, and our study provides a tiny puzzle piece in that whole picture."

A prevailing theory, known as the giant-impact hypothesis, posits the moon formed from the ejecta of a collision between a Mars-sized object and a young Earth. That blasted-out material, bounded by gravity, is believed to have created the moon we see today. Exactly when this collision occurred and how long the moon took to form, however, has remained an open question thus far.

To arrive at their conclusions, scientists studied speckles of a mineral called "zircon," present in moon samples brought to Earth in 1972 by the final Apollo mission. Originally formed when the moon's impact-driven molten surface solidified after the collision that led to its birth, scientists believe zircon crystals are the first solids to have crystallized after the moon's formation. Therefore, they could exhibit tell-tale signs of the moon's age.

"Because we know how old these crystals are, they serve as an anchor for the lunar chronology," said Heck.

To nail down the age of the sample, researchers identified and mapped individual atoms in a piece of lunar sample. First, they "sharpened it" using a focused beam of electrons, "almost like a very fancy pencil sharpener," study lead author Jennika Greer, a research associate at the University of Glasgow in the U.K., said in the same statement.

Her team then used a laser to evaporate atoms from the tip of the sharpened sample and measured those atoms' speeds. "How fast they move tells us how heavy they are, which in turn tells us what they're made of," Greer added.

The scientists measured the amount of uranium and lead atoms in the sample, which, with prior knowledge of how fast atoms decay, helped determine the sample's 4.46 billion-year age, according to the new study.

"It's amazing being able to have proof that the rock you're holding is the oldest bit of the moon we've found so far," said Greer. "It's an anchor point for so many questions about the Earth. When you know how old something is, you can better understand what has happened to it in its history."

The research is described in a paper published Thursday (Oct. 20) in the journal Geochemical Perspectives Letters.

Mitt Romney’s longtime stenographer McKay Coppins has a new book out called Romney: A Reckoning. The book is an airing of silly and surprisingly petty grievances from Utah’s unpopular junior senator, who lost a winnable presidential campaign against Barack Obama in 2012 and is now being driven out of the Senate by his inability to win reelection.

Much of the book details Romney’s growing appreciation of his Democrat colleagues and their policies and political goals, even as he spews invective about many of his Republican colleagues, particularly those with a reputation for advancing conservative ideals.

One of the Democrat goals Romney aligned himself with was the impeachment of former President Donald Trump. As he tells the story through Coppins, he is full of invective for every Republican but himself. He calls Attorney General William Barr “nervous” and “like all the other toadies in the Trump administration.” The entire GOP conference is smarmy, craven, and cowardly, he asserts, since they didn’t agree with his anti-Trump obsessions.

Romney spent the fall of 2019 giving public interviews to left-wing media, in which he complained about Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and telegraphing his eventual vote in favor of impeachment. Yet Romney claims to have been shocked that conservatives weren’t elated with his grandstanding.

Prime-time hosts on Fox News, where I’m a contributor, were apparently “treating him with mounting hostility,” according to the book, which adds, “Sean Hannity accused Romney of ‘morphing’ into a ‘weak, sanctimonious Washington, swamp politician,’ and suggested the senator was simply ‘jealous’ of Trump’s myriad successes.”

Romney was hurt by Hannity’s remarks, according to the book, since the host had been a staunch supporter of Romney’s presidential campaign. Romney called up the man described as his “old buddy,” but the call did not go well. Hannity accused Romney of just trying to be liked by left-wing media. Then he asked why Romney wasn’t more outraged by the Burisma scandal, the entire issue that was at the heart of the Ukraine impeachment scandal. ...

EU’s Borrell asks media ‘not to forget about Ukraine’

The bloc’s top diplomat insisted that the conflict remains an important issue for the European Commission

EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has urged the media not to shift all of its attention away from Ukraine and onto the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

Speaking ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg on Monday, Borrell told reporters that Ukraine “continues to fight”and said Kiev would be on the agenda for the discussions. “Do not forget about Ukraine,”added the diplomat.

Borrell also noted that ministers would discuss the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as European sanctions against Russia.

During his brief exchange with reporters, Borrell primarily spoke about the fighting between Israel and Hamas, while none of the journalists present asked about the Ukraine conflict.

Despite previously expressing solidarity with Israel, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has lamented that this month’s escalation in the Middle East has diverted the spotlight away from his country.

“If international attention shifts away from Ukraine, one way or another, it will have consequences,” Zelensky warned in an interview with France 2 earlier this month. “The fate of Ukraine depends on the unity of the rest of the world.”

US officials have declared that they will continue funding Kiev and Israel, with USTreasury Secretary Janet Yellen insisting that Washington “can certainly afford” two wars.

She also admitted that direct US economic aid to Kiev was “what enables them to fight this war.” Ukrainian Defense Ministry official Gennady Kovalenko told the Washington Post earlier in October that Kiev “depends 100% on the United States.”

US President Joe Biden is reportedly planning to ask Congress to approve a new $100 billion aid bill that would include funding for Israel and Ukraine. However, a report by Axios last week suggested that the Pentagon has decided to give Israel tens of thousands of 155mm artillery shells that were originally intended for Ukraine.

Time capsule buried at ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope

Last week, a time capsule commemorating ESO staff, science, technology and cooperation between ESO and Chile was buried in a ceremony at the construction site of ESO’s Extremely Large Telescope (ELT), on Cerro Armazones in the Chilean Atacama Desert.

The capsule was sealed at the first stone ceremony in 2017, when construction on the soon-to-be “world’s biggest eye on the sky” began. Serving as a symbolic message to future generations, it contains mementos from Chilean authorities, including a plaque from the then President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet Jeria, about opening the skies of the country to the questions of an entire planet, as well as drawings from Chilean children featuring the Universe, ESO telescopes and northern Chile landscapes. The capsule also includes a mosaic of photographs of ESO staff and a copy of a book describing the future scientific goals of the telescope [1]. Covering it is an engraved hexagon made of Zerodur®, a one-fifth-scale model of one of the ELT’s primary mirror segments.

Last week, ESO Council members and staff visited the ELT site to bury the capsule in the wall of the ELT dome in an event led by ESO Council President Linda Tacconi (Germany) and Vice-President Mirjam Lieshout-Vijverberg (The Netherlands). In a separate event a few days later, a second group of Council members led by Rafael Bachiller (Spain) and Jan Buriánek (Czech Republic) installed a commemorative plaque on the wall where the capsule is buried.

Recently, construction of the ELT passed 50% completion, well on the way to beginning scientific operations later this decade. This milestone happens in the year ESO and Chile are commemorating their 60-year partnership, which has enabled the establishment of unique observatories in the Atacama Desert and the development of a strong scientific community.

As the largest optical and infrared telescope in the world, the ELT will shift our understanding of the Universe. Its scientific goals range from the Solar System to the edge of the observable universe, including exoplanets, black holes, and the first stars and galaxies. It will search for answers to some of the biggest open questions in astronomy: is there life elsewhere in the Universe? What is the nature of dark matter and dark energy? Are the laws of nature universal? It may also answer yet unknown questions — who knows what the ELT will have discovered by the time the capsule is opened?
