U.S. QUIETLY EXPANDS SECRET MILITARY BASE IN ISRAEL

Government documents pointing to construction at a classified U.S. base offer rare hints about a little noted U.S. military presence near Gaza.

TWO MONTHS BEFORE Hamas attacked Israel, the Pentagon awarded a multimillion-dollar contract to build U.S. troop facilities for a secret base it maintains deep within Israel’s Negev desert, just 20 miles from Gaza. Code-named “Site 512,” the longstanding U.S. base is a radar facility that monitors the skies for missile attacks on Israel.

On October 7, however, when thousands of Hamas rockets were launched, Site 512 saw nothing — because it is focused on Iran, more than 700 miles away.

The U.S. Army is quietly moving ahead with construction at Site 512, a classified base perched atop Mt. Har Qeren in the Negev, to include what government records describe as a “life support facility”: military speak for barracks-like structures for personnel.

Though President Joe Biden and the White House insist that there are no plans to send U.S. troops to Israel amid its war on Hamas, a secret U.S. military presence in Israel already exists. And the government contracts and budget documents show it is evidently growing.

The $35.8 million U.S. troop facility, not publicly announced or previously reported, was obliquely referenced in an August 2 contract announcement by the Pentagon. Though the Defense Department has taken pains to obscure the site’s true nature — describing it in other records merely as a “classified worldwide” project — budget documents reviewed by The Intercept reveal that it is part of Site 512. (The Pentagon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.)

“Sometimes something is treated as an official secret not in the hope that an adversary would never find out about it but rather [because] the U.S. government, for diplomatic or political reasons, does not want to officially acknowledge it,” Paul Pillar, a former chief analyst at the CIA’s counterterrorism center who said he had no specific knowledge of the base, told The Intercept. “In this case, perhaps the base will be used to support operations elsewhere in the Middle East in which any acknowledgment that they were staged from Israel, or involved any cooperation with Israel, would be inconvenient and likely to elicit more negative reactions than the operations otherwise would elicit.”

Leaked Document Shows Israeli Govt 'Option' To Ethnically Cleanse Gaza

Israeli culture magazine Mekovit on Saturday published a leaked document issued by Israel’s Ministry of Intelligence recommending the occupation of Gaza and total transfer of its 2.3 million inhabitants to Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

The document, issued on October 13, identifies a plan to transfer all residents of the Gaza Strip to North Sinai as the preferred option among three alternatives regarding the future of the Palestinians in Gaza at the end of the current war between Israel and the Hamas-led Palestinian resistance.

The document recommends that Israel evacuate the Gazan population to Sinai during the war, establish tent cities and new cities in northern Sinai to accommodate the deported population, and then create a closed security zone stretching several kilometers inside Egypt. The deported Palestinians would not be allowed to return to any areas near the Israeli border.

The existence of the document does not necessarily indicate that its recommendations are being implemented by Israel’s security establishment. The Ministry of Intelligence, headed by Gila Gamliel of the Likud party, does not control any of Israel’s intelligence agencies, but independently prepares studies and policy papers, which are distributed for consideration by the government and its security bodies.

Colorado lawyers seeking to disqualify former President Donald Trump from running for the White House again argued on Monday that his role in the January 2021 assault on the U.S. Capitol runs afoul of the Constitution’s insurrection clause, opening a hearing that could break new ground in constitutional law.

The case will pivot on whether the Jan. 6 attack meets the meaning of “insurrection” in the 14th Amendment. It will also hinge on whether Trump’s action meets the definition of “engaging” and whether the rarely used provision was meant to apply to the presidency.

Trump’s lawyers contend the former president was simply exercising his free speech rights to warn about election results he did not believe were legitimate. They noted cases where the congressional authors of Section Three declined to use it more than a century ago against people who only rhetorically backed the confederacy.

His lawyers said none of the issues are simple in a provision of the Constitution that hasn’t been used in 150 years. In court filings, they said the insurrection clause was never meant to apply to the office of president, which is not mentioned in the text, unlike “Senator or Representative in Congress” and “elector of President and Vice President.”

“This is a legal Hail Mary by the Democrats,” said Mike Davis, an attorney who appeared with representatives of the Trump campaign outside court before the trial began. “This case is going to fail.”

An attorney representing Trump, Scott Gessler, called the lawsuit “anti-democratic” and noted that at least one other presidential candidate — socialist labor organizer Eugene Debs — ran from prison without people trying to disqualify him.

A former Colorado secretary of state, Gessler said there is an informal principle in election law known as “the rule of democracy,” which essentially means to “err on the side of letting people vote” whenever there is an ambiguity.

At the start of Monday’s hearing — held in a large downtown Denver courtroom filled with attorneys, journalists and several armed sheriff’s deputies — the judge rejected the motion by Trump’s attorneys that asked her to step aside because she once contributed money to a liberal group.

Trump’s campaign said it had filed a motion for the judge, Sarah B. Wallace, torecuse herself because she had made a $100 donation in October 2022 to the Colorado Turnout Project, a group whose website says it was formed to “prevent violent insurrections” such as the Jan. 6 attack.

She was appointed to the bench in August of that year by Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat. Wallace denied the motion, saying she didn’t recall the donation, made before she formally took the bench, until the motion was filed and has no preconceptions about the legal issues in the case.

“I will not allow this legal proceeding to turn into a circus,” she said.

DENVER (KDVR) — A man who was found dead inside the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park was heavily armed and wearing body armor.

According to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, on Saturday morning, deputies were notified of a man who was found dead inside the park. His body was discovered prior to the park’s opening, and deputies said it was not related to any of the rides. The man illegally entered the park after hours when no employees or guests were around, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies continued their investigation over the weekend and identified the man as a 20-year-old from the Carbondale area. He was initially said to be 22 years old, but investigators corrected that Monday afternoon in a news conference.

The man was found dressed in black-colored tactical clothing, bearing patches and emblems that gave the appearance of someone with law enforcement. He was also heavily armed with a semi-automatic rifle, semi-automatic handgun and multiple loaded magazines. He was also wearing body armor and a ballistic helmet, according to the sheriff’s office.

The man, who investigators believe died by suicide, also had multiple improvised explosive devices with him and inside his vehicle.

Following the investigation, several members of the bomb squad swept the grounds of the adventure park to ensure no other explosive devices were planted around the park or rides. The sheriff’s office said the investigation found no members of the public were at risk.

“This very sad and tragic incident reminds us how much our Glenwood Springs community means to us,” Glenwood Caverns general manager Nancy Heard said in a statement emailed to FOX31. “We appreciate the swift action and thorough work of the Garfield County Sherriff’s Department and Coroner’s Office, as well as the Garfield County All Hazard Response Team and other authorities assisting in the investigation, working together to ensure the park is safe to reopen. Thank you for all you do.”

There has been no further information on how the man died. “While this investigation is still ongoing and very active,it is important to realize that given the amount of weaponry, ammunition, and explosive devices found, the suspect could have implemented an attack of devastating proportions upon our community and first responders,” said the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office in a release. The Garfield County Coroner will release the identity of the suspect at a later date.

Searching for "Trump Derangement Syndrome" in those articles brought me to page 794. It was a letter to Pelosi from DJT and he was outlining how there was nothing fair about the impeachment. The immigration sign was a California highway safety sign warning motorists to avoid undocumented immigrants darting across the road. It depicted a man, woman, and girl with pigtails running. This request would provide $3.5 billion to the Migration and Refugee Assistance (MRA)

account within the Department of State. Funding would provide lifesaving humanitarian

assistance to vulnerable or displaced people inside of Ukraine and taking refuge in the region as

well as for increased overseas humanitarian requirements of those affected by Russia's war in

Ukraine and its severe impacts around the world. There are an estimated 16 million people in

Ukraine and more than 6.3 million refugees in the region who rely on humanitarian

assistance. Russia's war on Ukraine has led to increased costs of basic needs and exacerbated

inflation worldwide, due to the suspension of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which is expected to

have severe impacts on global food security and malnutrition.

Funding would also provide life-saving humanitarian assistance in Israel, and in areas

impacted by the situation in Israel. These resources would support displaced and conflict-

affected civilians, including Palestinian refugees in Gaza and the West Bank, and to address

potential needs of Gazans fleeing to neighboring countries. This would include food and non-

food items, healthcare, emergency shelter support, water and sanitation assistance, and

emergency protection. This would also include potential critical humanitarian infrastructure

costs needed for the refugee population to provide access to basic, life-sustaining support. This

crisis could well result in displacement across border and higher regional humanitarian needs,

and funding may be used to meet evolving programming requirements outside of Gaza.

Visually, the interplay of stars, gas, and dust has created a shape that appears to some like a fictional ancient sorcerer. Although the nebula may last only a few million years, some of the stars being conjured from the gas by the great gravitational powers may outlive our Sun.

The 400-year-old remains of a child have been found in a locked grave in Poland, in a burial that points to 16th and 17th-century fears that the deceased was a vampire-like monster.

Researchers were excavating an unmarked mass cemetery in the village of Pień earlier this year when they discovered the remains of a child believed to have been a young boy about six to seven years old, Dariusz Polinski, an archaeologist with Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń who led the dig, told Artnet News.

“He was originally buried in an upright position, face down, with a triangular iron padlock folded under his feet,” Polinski said.

The boy’s remains were excavated, except for his shins and feet. Polinski said the grave was disturbed after the boy was buried but researchers have not been able to pin down exactly when. It is also unclear what the people who had exhumed his body had intended to do with it, though it is possible they intended to burn or destroy the corpse. A short distance from his grave, archaeologists excavated the remains of three more children.

Polinski added that the boy’s grave is unique and that no other child burials have been observed in a similar state.

“In fact, from the moment of discovery, it was clear that the padlock that was discovered, in a sense closing this tomb, was a safeguard against the dead child,” he said, and not a measure to protect the boy’s remains in any way.

Other safeguards were also found at the cemetery, Polinski noted, including sickles and coins or stones placed in the mouths of others buried in the cemetery.

In the 1600s, people feared demons and creatures like vampires, which they believed the dead could transform into if they did not die a “good death.” The buried boy could also have had physical defects that caused people to fear him when he was alive, died of the plague, or committed suicide, Polinski said.

“One cannot say for sure that the child was seen as a demon resembling a creature later identified after the 17th century as a vampire, so for example a wraith or ghoul,” Polinski said.

Polinski noted that the 16th and 17th centuries in Poland were difficult times marked by the Swedish Deluge, fighting with the Cossacks, epidemics, economic crisis, and counter-reformation. Such living conditions led to a rise in belief in demonic beings and finding scapegoats to blame, such as “witches.”

Last year, the team found the body of a woman in a similarly padlocked tomb just six feet away. Almost twin triangular padlocks were found in both graves. She was described as a “vampire” and found with a green tarnish on her palate, and the cluster above the child’s grave contained, among other things, a jaw fragment partially stained green.

Polinski said that the two discoveries in Pień bear “more or less clear traces of anti-demonic (so-called anti-vampiric) practices.”

“No less, the two graves do not, at least according to publications to date, have strict counterparts,” he added, “but they fit into the general picture of fear of the unknown and attempts to find a culprit to blame for failures and tragedies.”

SANAA – Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels on Tuesday pledged more attacks against Israel if its war on Hamas continues.

They said they had already fired drones and ballistic missiles in three separate operations.

“The Yemeni Armed Forces... confirm they will continue to carry out qualitative strikes with missiles and drones until the Israeli aggression stops,” said a Houthi military statement aired on the rebels’ Al-Masirah TV.

It said Houthi rebels “launched a large batch of ballistic missiles... and a large number of armed aircraft” towards Israel on Tuesday.

It was the third such operation since the Gaza assault began on Oct 7 after Hamas militants staged the worst attack in Israel’s history.

“These drones belong to the state of Yemen,” the Prime Minister of the Houthi government, Mr Abdelaziz Habtour, said when asked about the launch towards Eilat in southern Israel.

The Houthis, who seized Yemen’s capital Sanaa in 2014 and control large swathes of the country, are “part of the axis of resistance” against Israel and are fighting with “words and drones”, he added.

NASA's new X-ray telescope observed the haunting 'bones' of a ghostly cosmic hand 16,000 light-years from Earth for a record 17 days.

While the formation has been previously observed, this instance is the longest time the telescope has looked at since launching in December 2021.

The eerie formation, which appears to be an arm reaching into space, is a remnant of a supernova explosion 1,700 years ago, called MSH 15-52, one of the youngest in the Milky Way galaxy.

The supernova that resulted in the unusual pattern also created an ultra-dense, magnetized star called a pulsar.

'Around 1,500 years ago, a in our galaxy ran out of nuclear fuel to burn,' researchers led by Stanford University in California shared in a statement.

'When this happened, the star collapsed onto itself and formed an extremely dense object called a neutron star.'

NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory first spotted MSH 15-52 in 2001, also capturing a hand-like formation.

But the agency's Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) has snapped even more details of the haunting remains, along with a ghoulish purple glow.

Roger Romani of Stanford University in California, who led the study, said: 'The IXPE data gives us the first map of the in the 'hand.

'The charged particles producing the X-rays travel along the, determining the basic shape of the nebula like the bones do in a person's hand.'

IXPE provides information about the electric field orientation of X-rays, determined by the magnetic field of the X-ray source - this is called X-ray polarization.

'In large regions of MSH 15-52, the amount of polarization is remarkably high, reaching the maximum level expected from theoretical work,' the researchers shared.

'To achieve that strength, the magnetic field must be very straight and uniform, meaning there is little turbulence in the pulsar wind nebula regions.'

Co-author Niccolò Di Lalla, also of Stanford, said: 'We’ve uncovered the life history of super energetic matter and antimatter particles around the pulsar.

Angry Birds, Stack: Israeli ads showing Hamas atrocities pop up in children’s video games

London: Maria Julia Assis was sitting down to a meal in her terraced home in north London when her six-year-old son ran into the dining room, his face pale.

The puzzle game on his Android phone had been interrupted by a video showing Hamas militants, terrified Israeli families and blurred graphic footage.

Over a black screen, messages in capital letters from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the first-year student: “We’re being murdered in our homes, executed in our beds … We will make sure that those who harm us pay a heavy price.”

Assis, a 28-year-old barista from Brazil, said that the ad left her son shaken and she quickly deleted the game.

“He was shocked,” she said in a telephone interview. “He literally said, ‘What is this bloody ad doing in my game?’”

Reuters has not been able to establish how the ad came to her son’s video game, but her family isn’t alone. The news agency has documented at least five other cases across Europe where the same pro-Israel video, which carried footage of rocket attacks, a fiery explosion, and masked gunmen, was shown to gamers, including several children.

In at least one case, the ads were played inside the popular Angry Birds game made by SEGA-owned developer Rovio.

Rovio confirmed that “somehow these ads with disturbing content have in error made it through to our game” and were now being blocked manually. Spokesperson Lotta Backlund did not provide details on which of its “dozen or so ad partners” had supplied it with the ad.

Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ head of digital, David Saranga, confirmed that the video was a government-promoted ad but said he had “no idea” how it ended up inside various games.

He said the footage was part of a larger advocacy drive by the Israeli Foreign Ministry, which has spent $US1.5 million ($2.4 million) on internet ads since Hamas’ October 7 attack on civilians in southern Israel ignited war in Gaza.

Saranga said officials had specifically instructed advertisers “to block it for people under 18” and defended the graphic nature of the ad campaign.

“We want the world to understand that what happened here in Israel,” he said. “It’s a massacre.”

Reuters contacted 43 advertising firms that Rovio listed on its website as “third-party data partners” to try to ascertain who placed the ad in the games.

Israel’s attacks on Palestinian journalists came hours after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken assured “American Jewish community leaders” that he urged Qatar’s government “to tone down Al Jazeera’s rhetoric about the war in Gaza” during a recent trip to Doha.

Suspicions that Israeli forces deliberately targeted Dahdouh’s family were quickly bolstered by comments from News 13 journalist Zvi Yehezkeli.

“Generally we know the target,” Yehezkeli told audiences within hours of the strike, adding, “for example, today there was a target: the family of an Al Jazeera reporter.”

“In general, we know,” he concluded.
