Qresearch is a 24/7 beehive of activity where anons post their diggs, memes and prayers.
For this to happen requires bakers–which is why they have been called "the core of this board."
Bakers perform several key functions:
* Set the tone for each bread via their choice of bread title and /comms/ with posters.
* Post notables for each bread.
* Bake breads (transition the board from one thread to the next).
* Knead the dough (keeping the resource pages clean, tidy, and up-to-date).
When all goes well, baking is a fun & exciting opportunity to serve. When things get wonky and shills attack–bakers carry on anyway.

bc we had a few little problems last night
so thought i could look at some of the issues that arise
one of the problems with comms is that it's sort of something people often take for granted
also, when learning to bake, there's so much other stuff
When i was practice baking, i remember thinking after a while, "ok, i can do all the steps now, but what about when anons start talkin' at me after @600?
Was absolutely PETRIFIED, couldn't imagine how i'd juggle finishing notes, baking and answer q's. All at the same time.

Sorry you had to experience that, anon. Not at all pleasant. I'm also sorry to tell you that the same baker called me a shill in red text a few months ago. Spammed it for a number of breads and in several other threads. The gentleman only recently began baking after claiming burnout caused the last episode in May. Might be time for another break, hmmm?

Your question is timely, because the issue of COMMS is important.
Bakers have to be especially carefull with comms. When i am completely anon, i can 'sound off' if i feel like it. But when baking, i have to be much more neutral. Because as baker, i am 'not myself.' I represent the board, in a sense. Should try to be something of an impartial arbiter, to the extent I can manage that. Getting really sharp with anons over a notable recommendation is a good thing to avoid.
Gets into the whole issue of "baker's temperament. Ya gotta be able to be pretty calm under most circumstances to bake. Or at least to bake over a period of time.

Role of good comms to create a smooth bake
These are the thoughts of ONE BAKER, but i suspect they reflect the experience of many.
They are not rules but rules of thumb.
But should be helpful for new bakers.
Others bakers, collectors and anons, plz chime in.
Generally:
1. Good comms matter. They prevent a lot of confusion (e.g., who is baking, when a handoff is needed, etc.). They also keep the board "happy" and things running smoothly.
2. Lack of attention to comms creates frustration for anons and also gives shills ammo against the kitchen.
3. Taking the time to cultivate good comms makes everything run more smoothly for bakers, note collectors, and anons.

New bakers often find comms challenging.
Why is this?
- Very new bakers are on cognitive overload the whole bred
it's hard enough just to bake wo/also having to report breads nos, greet other bakers or talk to anons
- Baking = new unfamiliar role
not like digging or meming (although it may at times require praying!) ;-}
- Ideally, bakers must exercise authority while also being as responsive as possible to others on the board.
can seem like an impossible task at first
- Easy for bakers to take a defensive stance, where he falls into the habit of mainly acting alone
Old-style 8chan bakers would sometimes act like "i'm in charge and you're not". But that creates problems that can easily be avoided. We are a team here - bakers, note collectors and anons. (BO/BVs too notwithstanding the less-than-perfect situation on /qr/, kek).
- Once a baker has a few bakes under his belt, it's time to notice that there is a lot of help available to him - from anons, note collectors and other bakers.
This is where good comms come in. Don't try to go it alone - try to open up, talk to anons, greet "visiting" bakers. Makes the bake a community experience - which is really what it is.

COMMS with OFF-DUTY BAKERS
Bakers: Off-duty bakers often check in to see how a new baker is doing - or simply to say hello or announce when they're available to bake.
- Always acknowledge baker greetings, whether they're asking about a handoff or simply checking it. It's what bakers do to let on-duty baker know they are around (either now or later).
- For handoffs, use established protocols. Avoid cutting corners; this is not the time for it.
- Let other bakers help with dough problems, etc. If you make a change you're not sure of (or decide to ask another baker to make a change in a later shift, you can also leave a post on Baker's Meta, so there's a record).
- Try not to get defensive if given feedback; when you're new, you need it - there's a lot to know.

A few times recently, i've seen bakers check in with new bakers and get no reply. One told me he didn't know what to say. They don't always realize the purpose of bakers checkin in - that in addition to offering handoffs, can be about when baker is available or seeing if baker needs help with anything (dough stuff, collecting pb notes, etc).
At night, i often just like to let other bakers know i'm around. It can feel lonely at times, gives a boost.

COMMS with ANONS
Anons: they provide ALL the info collected by bakers in notes and as such are indispensable to what we do. Without them, we would have no notes, memes or prayers. So acknowledging their contribution is a vital part of what bakers do.
Try to be relaxed not defensive (hard to do, i know, but try).
''When asking for sauce or saying something is already in notables, better to be "no big deal" than sarc.
''If anons ask "why not notable?," have an answer (no sauce, poor sauce, not sure of the main point, etc.) And if you are not sure yourself, think about it so it doesn't look like your decisions are arbitrary.
''Look for opps to thank them (when they come thru w/sauce, add extra sauce, correct baker's list, retrieve notables baker missed, and so forth).
Try to include nommed notables that are at least minimally acceptable, espec. if nommed more than once. As one baker is fond of saying, "it's the anons' bread, not the bakers".

Try to create an 'atmosphere' where anons feel free to ask questions, make comments, and generally feel at home.
Anons know that bakers make the final decision on notables.
And much as we try to say it's no big deal, many anons hesitate to criticize bakers because bakers are essential for each bread.
Important that we try to project an attitude that invites commentary, not discourages it.
Tough for new bakers, they have many things on their minds. But to aim for it is a good goal.
Also, to realize that it's not necessary to try to act more experienced than you really are. Anons ALWAYS know the score on that. ALWAYS. Better to admit when yer wrong (or when you don't know something than try to fake it - coz it never works, even if nobody said nuthin.'
(Learned that from Teach - it's all over his old timey instructions that many of us learned from.)

Ironically, u are usually really good about anon contributions. but it happens to all of us.
The hardest notes for me are discussions by anons, espec if untitled. Anons sometimes have excellent thoughts to share. But they are moar "40,000 foot view" than news items. As such, look unsauced. (Although often they do include sauce but go beyond it.)
It's been pointed out before that if "we are the news," we need to start thinking more about how to include anon work, espec when well-sauced and well-reasoned. There are a number of anons here who have done original research, have published articles and even books, etc.
The hard part is having the time to evaluate such contributions, espec during fast breads (in fact, would say it's impossible during fast breads - wait until dark on that stuff).

You actually have a lot of experience with… uh… unusual comms (or lack thereof) bc of inheriting the graveyard dough, sometimes from a ghost. Sometimes I will ghost a bread two hours b4 you arrive just hoping you'll get (say) a revised pastebin. Chances are usually slim! I show up later and usually have to repost….
This goes back to what other bakers were saying about anons not really tracking this kind of thing. When a bred is ghosted, all bets are off. Notables may be lost, pastes forgotten….anything is possible.

Been lurking on a few baking classes over the last few months and interested in trying it at some point. I’ve looked through a lot of the classes and have a question I don’t thing has been addressed.
What do bakers do (wnb and tx mostly) about news stories anon(s). They typically post 10-15 long read news stories usually double spaced. Sometimes they get notabled but I don’t know if anyone handle kitchen and digest the posts.

Maybe if you think someone’s comm’ing you could say, “come again, anon?” … or “any comms missed please repost, was busy baking” or something.
In the end we’re busy, focused on baking and it’s easy to miss comms. Add to that confusing comms and you have a plate of spaghetti sometimes. The kitchen’s crazy a lot of the time.

YES. That's a highly organic approach that leads to very good original research. Great late at night (and on /qrb/ last summer).
IMPORTANT: that anons present the info to bakers in a way that makes it easy to see the main point and (possibly) the progress over time. Citing the digs as they have progressed can really help here.
Helpful for example to put the NAME OF THE DIG at the top. Or THE MAIN POINT at the top.
Some anons realize this, some do not. But if i can't grasp the point, i can't notable. And it's not up to baker to rewrite a post for anons. (Sometimes a nommer can state the main point when OP has a hard time - summarization is not an easy task)

You get better at it over time. I think for me, I look for relevance/importance, I often ck the links for dates and to grab titles, since anons often don't provide. It's its more than a day or so old, prob been posted already. Only way to really keep up with current events is to ck notables often and then ck links for moar info. If you can't do that cuz it does require really fast fingers kek. Just ask anons opinions, ask for moar sauce or moar details, like date summary, relevance. If unsure, just don't add. If anons complain, ask them to repost or to get moar info.

Used to take 'em all as a newer baker but this anon posts much from foreign sources. And while such items can be relevant, it's a big planet. Got to balance relevancy with cognitive overload potential. (and nowadays, there's so much relevant news, it's important to be discerning).
That said, i just want to raise the issue of bakes where there is a lot of (imo) relevant material but baker doesn't pick up, even when nommed. When anons nom, i try to pick up even when i might not otherwise (as long as it's not shill stuff). Anon noms pretty much my first priority, then other stuff.

This was right after BVs took over 8chan from 8bit. Seems that one of them decided that a poster was a shill and eliminated ALL their posts. Whoosh–half the notes gone at about 630.
(That was when i began to wonder about this new mgmt group….)

I have a very hands off style of baking; the anons always tell me what to put in notes. they may or mey not realize that it's happening, because my notes usually track anons calling out 'notable' very closely, due to posting the notes updates very often.
It makes it so that from my chair, I'm having a conversation with every anon in the bread, every time I bake. It's har dto quantify because.. the anons tell me, I don't ask them. I don't have to.

Yea, I was at work all day yesterday, but you can really get caught up trying to verify or decide if something is notable. In that case ask for a summary or moar info and move on. Trust me, anons will provide moar. Cuz when you get caught up, you look down at post count and realize you should already be baking kek I ask for moar info, a video, moar sauce, dates or whatever and keep right on rolling. If i have time, I may ck for myself for dates or the content of the article if it seems important and they only provide a link and screen shot of nothing. So some things you can do -
- deep lags are an issue for us all, especially bad lately. What I do is bake at 650 if there’s lag, then there’s plenty of time to wait for your thread to drop and bake w/o the stress of maybe you’ll be late.
Open up another catalog page and check the amount of posts on the general from there. If lag is bad on the general, when dropping the fresh bread post I guess.
Baking early is the key I think. It doesn’t matter if you’re too early.. if there’s a fresh bread it all works out, better than being late.

Disappearing pastes - do you mean on your pc or pastebin or qbin?
If on your pc, do you save your paste? Good idea to save it as soon as you get it, so if your pc crashes you don’t lose it. Save all your changes constantly as well. Save it on your desktop for quick access any time, then file it away when you finish.

There is no secret sauce with that.

This is good. My own method is to try to comment on some of the things that end up in notes to the op, to see if anons chew on the topic more to make it into a dig. I'd estimate at least half of the digs have happened that way, just from anons hashing out stuff that floats and notes.

I'm using mozarchiver right now for my board, saving to MAFF file type, and expanding the images to get around the "only get the thumbnails local" shortcoming of that method.. MAFF == a fancy viewable xip file, literally..

get a browser cleaner and use it
get rid of all unneeded run at boot shit

make a baking rig vm in virtualbox.
store all evidence off-vm.
if it dies, delete it and spin up a freshie. ← this is what I do, now.

gnight fren, it's a lot to learn. We had no baking class when I decided to start learning. Just lurked like a mofo and took notes, stole a lot of ideas from watching bakers. I used to go thru every single bred, before and after work. Got a notebook. Practiced grabbing Q posts and caps, assisting bakers. Learned so much that way. But the tools/class make it a lot better for new bakers. I started out taking notes, even when bakers were baking. The hardest part for me, was learning how to keep up with the speed of the breds. So if you can practice taking notes and get comfortable with that, it will help a lot. Plus, you can give bakers breaks by taking notes for them, once you feel comfortable doing it. Next thing you know, you'll be baking those notes yourself.

Just had an idea, I can't archive all pics because of IP limits on archive.org.
But what I could do is to archive pics according to their resolution. I need to check how many pics are right now above 1000x1000 resolution.
If there are not that many, I could grab these.
Most pics with lower resolution should still be readable when only seeing the thumbnail.

Happens to us all I think. Me anyway.
If my post doesn't go through / appear quickly I refresh / reload the page.
The bad lag usually comes at the last 100 posts. CtrlF and search for a word string you've typed. It might be there, maybe not.
When baking though, wait a few secs then refresh the page. That's when you're glad you baked super-early.

EDUCATIONAL BAKING SITUATION
1. Newish baker bakes bred with wrong number and a coupla of 'new baker' errors.
2. Anons give feedback on errors.
3. Bred's pretty fast so pretty soon it's well past 100.
4. Prolly first time baker's screwed up the number, so he kinda wants to 'undo' the situation (espec bad bred number).
5. Bakes a second bread w/correct bred number.
6. By that time, first bred is past @150.
7. Tries to get anons to jump breads but nope - first bread has too much momentum.
8. Second baker tries to help - says that (a) even if he's told BO to delete first bred - which he did - BO won't delete a 751 bred, so no worries. (b) bakers can't force anons to switch to the "correct" bred, coz once a bred is really going, it's going.
9. Baker keeps trying but no dice.
10. Eventually baker relents and returns to first bread; asks second baker to take notes, maybe coz he's still doing dough corrections.
11. Second baker post notes a coupla times but see no sign of baker and it's getting late.
12. Baker posts he's having connection problems.
13. Second baker asks for handoff to bake but baker keeps it.
14. Relents soon after and gives handoff; second baker bakes it.
= = = = =
What new bakers need to know:
- it's easy to misnumber breds - it's too bad but not that big a deal. It's always handled by informing BO/BVs with a Report, not by baking a new bred! ;-}
- to bakers who want to 'start over' with a new bread:
DON'T DO IT lightly.
But if you do it, DO IT IMMEDIATELY, before bread 'takes off.' (would say within 25 posts)
- When it's obvious that anons aren't following you to the new bread, GIVE IT UP, don't 'go down with the ship'. Apologize, report second bread for deletion, return to bake bread #1.
- If after something like this - and if yer also having techie problems - say YES when another baker offers to bake. (can take time to reset.)
Here's the deal:
There is "basic" baking and "experienced" baking.
Only way to be "experienced" is thru having lotsa bakes under yer belt - which means lotsa mistakes.
THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE!!

New bakers aren't expected to know everything at once. Bakers work with one another and with anons as a team. Mistakes humble us but also make us better bakers.

Would go one further, and say: If you have generated a dough post, and thus technically "completed the bake (in the eyes of all the aggregators aspecially).. It is too late for a redo; you are only creating more work for others, by doing it.
So this is something that starts to smell shill if it continues for any longer than the very first time it happens (and gets called out), fwiw. Anons aren't stupid, even if they do not bake, they understand what wasted resources are.

Baker ghosted around 400, i took the bake shortly before end of bread (not time to gather later notes) - hence the title " Part Bake, Part Ebake Edition"

- Note collectors most often volunteer to help when a bread is ghosted. Incoming baker can support them with thanks - also by mentioning their collecting role as note taker in the final bun.

'' - Note collectors can also collect notables for busy bakers who can't collect or during Q bakes. Make sure you know when note collectors will drop notables (usually 2-3x per bread, last drop @600-650). Support their efforts with ty's, with good comms, and by answering any questions they may have.
Collectors know that any notables they select are basically suggestions until baker posts a notables list. With new note collectors, may be necessary to edit the list a little or a lot; with experienced note collectors, often best to take most or all unless there's something that really doesn't seem notable (imo).
