Intro to Baking
Qresearch is a 24/7 beehive of activity where anons post their diggs, memes and prayers. For this to happen requires bakers–which is why they have been called "the core of this board." Bakers perform several key functions-" First, they maintain the infrastructure of the board (the dough), keeping it clean, tidy, and up-to-date. Second, they manage the transition from one bread to another (baking). Third, they post notables'' for each bread. Last, bakers set the tone for each bread via their choice of bread title and /comms/ with posters. When all goes well, baking is a fun & exciting opportunity to serve. When things get wonky and shills attack–bakers carry on anyway. Shadilay, fellow bakers!

I'll take a couple to start off -
How do you deal with a laggy board when baking? How do you get the timing right?
- Bake as early as you can. I would start at 630 posts in bad lag. Better to have a fresh bread up earlier rather than after the present one finishes.
- Baking from the index -
Have the index link bookmarked just in case.

- Create the new thread in the top area. You don't need to click 'create new thread' in index, the windows are always there.
- Take a note of one of your thread title words
- Once posted, rather than have to scroll to find your new thread / see if it's appeared yet, just CtrlF a word from your title. If your thread has posted you'll see quickly. Saves a lot of time.
- Then from the thread listing in the index, simply click 'reply' and you'll be directed to the thread where you can enter the rest of the dough.

Handoff Comms
So let's go over the handoff comms.
HANDOFF COMMS
Call and Response
Handing off mimics military comms.
As when you do a radio check, the initiator ends the comm:
- Current baker states they need a handoff
Baker requests hand off
- New baker responds
New baker requesting hand off
- Current baker responds
Baker handing off requests confirmation
- New baker
Handoff confirmed
- Old baker
Handoff confirmed
Basically its a redundancy to make sure
the new baker confirms the handoff, and the old baker confirms, this way there is zero chance for confusion.
The language I think is less important than the idea that there is a challenge, and then a response.

I always try to be as transparent and engaging with anons as possible. Bakers are, after all, compiling notable posts from breads and making new breads for anons. Always thank anons, ask for their feedback when possible, discuss something if needed (don't slide though, that's unproductive), etc.
I've started mass replying to "thank you baker" posts just to thank anons. I do it for the "thank you baker" posts before 100 posts, then get to baking, kek. Things like that are nice I think, when the bread permits it of course. If Q is posting a storm there's no time for that.

Your hands and fingers work etremely hard when baking. Here's how to make it as easy as possible on them -
- Have a great mouse
High quality, ergonomic mice are inexpensive these days. I just replaced my Rapoo (which was like a Jag), with a Jelly Comb (also boss).
Be good to your hands and treat yourself to a good mouse.
Mice with scrolling wheels on top are great for baking.
Mouse Settings
As a baker you'll be scrolling like your mouse has never seen. Make it easy on yourself by adjusting your scrolling settings.
With these settings, if you need to scroll FAST, you've got lightening speed.
Set at high: Choose how many lines to scroll each time

Here's mine. You can expect -
- Your body to come out in an instant cold sweat
- You will sit straight up
- Your hands will soak and possibly shake
- Your mind will be telling you to keep it together
- The bread to finish in 30secs from now
What to do as soon as you see a Q post -
- Keep it together and go up to 5th gear
- Log it in the dough. Use a formatting line from a post below
- Look out for anons posting caps, videos or docs for the Q posts. They will.
- Ready bake your new bake immediately
- Line up your pastebin ready, immediately
- Put a call out for anons to call out notables if that'll help you.
The main thing is to get the Q posts logged as priority. Anons will forgive you anything if you just get this part right.

I never have any particular schedule for posting notes. If bred is slow or i pick it up at start, I can usually get to the bottom by 200. If on GY, may post them–so i can post again before ghosting around 300-400. Assuming that's the plan, depends on how tired i am and when gy shift begins.
If i go for the whole bake–which is at least 2 hours, but can be 4 or 5–then i'll post around 250 and then a couple of times before the end. Always try to post a LAST CALL so anons can ask for changes before the very end.

Very true. The bread temperature dictates what "mode" of baking you're doing. If it's a super comfy late night bread: 200, 400, 600, discussion is possible, notables can be explained further, and bake around 700.
But if it's a super fast and chaotic day bread while Q's posting: it'd be much different like 250, 500, 600, focusing mostly on grabbing crumbs, and bake at 680 or something.
Once you keep baking for a while you know how to react to different types of bread.

REPORTING A THREAD OR POST
As baker you'll sometimes have to report something to the BO/BV team.
You could have made a mistake with the thread title and number
That's ok. Just report it and request that the BO/BV's rename it.
On your first post of the thread, beside the thread title, click on the triangle and 'report'. Type 'Requesting a rename to #2444. TY, baker'. A BV will rename soon and let you know in the thread.
Make a clear post about it as soon as you can in the thread - ==Incorrect Thread Number. This should be #2832==
I have requested that the BV change it. Sorry folks, baker.

IF someone types in their email address, report the post for deletion as above.
Use the triangle on the actual post you're reporting.

I know a little bit about individual shills at this point–leafy is pretty hard to miss–but mostly, just think in terms of whether they are generic (mostly harmless) or malicious and effective. Leafy is unpleasant but mostly ineffective.
The malicious ones who are good at what they do are another case. Some watch bakers and learn about their habits and try to target weak points and try to turn anons against them. If i notice, that's the kind of situation where I'll try to intervene–to break up the game.
It's tricky bc even shills sometimes have a point. Good to pay attn to their criticisms bc they can provide real info sometimes. The problem is that they always package it in a way that's designed to create trouble.

That said, bakers have a lot to do with how each bread "feels."
Some focus on that more than others.
I often focus on it coz
a- do a lot of slower breads
b- good for morale espec when anons are a little down (Q not posting or – like now – DS driving everyone crazy IRL).
In a fast bred, you're just running. But if you do a good job, that's a morale booster too.

- Sometimes. I feel I'm letting the board down and fellow bakers when off. Many times I've baked when I'd rather have been recouping energy, but I see the board as super important. Sometimes we just have to take a break though, and trust that others will step up.

My agenda for baking is always "How can I best serve Q, the movement and anons?", and "How can I improve?"

What a place.
I planned to take the night off….but baker needed handoff. Thought "i can bake one." Baked it. Started to ghost nb. Someone picked it up; it was Leafy, kek. Tired, didn't notice. Shills did and gave appropriate feedback.
Stayed til end of bred taking notes, figuring baker would leave–which he did, halfway thru. Another note-taker/baker took notes; we combined; i baked. happy ending.
BUT
bc of all the ebaking earlier in the evening there was confusion about numbering of notes. 5 breads worth of notes out of sync by that time. Spent an hour or more straightening it out. 5 breads of notes updated plus a wrong bread number.

Hey bakers just thought I'd let you know, I'm capable of baking and want to, but my work schedule is hanky janky, meaning sometimes I work 6 to 4, sometimes 3 to 10, it varies, usually a little of both each week. Also, sometimes I get 2 days off and sometimes I get none. Trying to find a spot I can bake that will help alleviate baker shortage, but having a bit of difficulty. Like today I was able to bake early, but bakers had it. Then right when I'm trying to get ready and leave, nobody taking the handoff. Maybe I can just announce my presence and that I have only 1 or 2 bakes in that exact time slot or none and see if bakers want a break and can pick up another later. Anyway, just seeing if you have any ideas on how to help. Ready, willing, and able almost every single day. I am always lurking and keeping up with notables and Q posts when I'm home. Thanks for any ideas or suggestions.

Doc's has done it for months, mv sometimes; I'm doing it more now since doc bakes so much during the day, tired by then. And shills are doing it, too – they like it better than gy. Baker 2 (who took the bred I ghosted) only posted notables once and didn't reply either to Baker 3's cordial greeting or to his inquiry about who is baking at maybe 650?. Then was offended when Baker 3 "seized" the bake @690 due to no response. (BTW, this is not a new baker. This is the same baker who i got into a tussle with one morning bc he edited my notables. See attached baker tip; reposted here coz i screwed up the link in the dough.)

Bakers who don't greet other bakers make the second baker begins to wonder if the first one is a shill–especially is notes aren't posted and baker does not reply to "baker here?" inquiry at end of bread. Baker Tip #9: Respect the contributions of all
In this scenario, there were two bakers and a note-taker contributing to the same bread. Very common on graveyard shifts, which often last 3-5 hours.
One of the strongest conventions among bakers is to leave the notes of other baker's alone (not true for note-takers, because experience and quality vary). So if two bakers share a bred, each baker's notes are independent. Also, if a note-taker makes a solid contribution, many bakers recognize this contribution in some way.
In this situation, Baker 1 did notes for half the bake, then ghosted, marking "ghost bake" at the end. Note-taker collected notes for next baker, turning them over to Baker 2, who signed in later.
Baker 1 dropped in later momentarily and noticed that his notes were now combined with others and not kept separate. (Later, realized they were also edited, kek.) He requested that Baker 2 restore the notes to their original form. But it did not work out that way – see cap.
NB, when Baker 2 requested handoff, Baker 1 neutrally took the bake. He made some dough corrections and restored his own notes but wo/changing subsequent notes, other than to include note-taker as a contributor.*
*Note: one of the objections Baker 2 had to including "baker change" in the notables is that it causes problems for aggregators like wearethene.ws. However that turns out not to be a problem; see this from wearethene.ws thread on /comms/: >>7982

You can Ebake easily by following these steps with no need to collect notables until the new bread.
