Federal prosecutor Nora Dannehy, a top aide to U.S. Attorney John H. Durham in his Russia investigation, has quietly resigned - at least partly out of concern that the investigative team is being pressed for political reasons to produce a report before its work is done, colleagues said.

Dannehy, a highly regarded prosecutor who has worked with or for Durham for decades, informed colleagues in the U.S. Attorney’s office in New Haven of her resignation from the Department of Justice by email Thursday evening. The short email was a brief farewell message and said nothing about political pressure, her work for Durham or what the Durham team has produced, according to people who received it.

Durham, who has never even acknowledged that Dannehy was in Washington working for him, had no immediate comment on the resignation.

Durham recruited Dannehy to join his team after he was appointed by Attorney General William Barr more than a year and a half ago to examine the the FBI’s legal justification for a disputed counterintelligence investigation that looked for ties between President Donald J. Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russian efforts to meddle in the election.

Dannehy is a career prosecutor who worked closely with Durham before leaving the U.S. Attorney’s office about a decade ago for a corporate position in the defense industry. The thinking of the associates, all Durham allies, is that the Russia investigation group will be disbanded and its work lost if Trump loses.

Dannehy was told to expect an assignment of from six months to a year when she agreed to join Durham’s team in Washington, colleagues said. The work has taken far longer than expected, in part because of complications caused by the corona virus pandemic. In the meantime, team members - some of whom are current or former federal investigators or prosecutors with homes in Connecticut - have been working long hours in Washington under pressure to produce results, associates said.

As a assistant U.S. Attorney in Connecticut, Dannehy was known for building complex corruption cases against high-profile politicians. Among others, she convicted former Connecticut Gov. John G. Rowland and former state Treasurer Paul Silvester. In 2008, she was assigned to Washington to investigate whether prosecutors in the President George W. Bush justice department had been fired for political reasons.

The Durham investigation produced its first public result in August with the arrest or former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith, who is accused of doctoring email from the CIA about a former Trump campaign adviser who was a target of secret FBI surveillance, according to documents filed in Washington’s federal court.

The altered memo concerned former low level Trump campaign volunteer Carter Page, who years earlier had agreed to act as a source for the CIA and provide information to the agency about Russians he met in the course of business. The CIA wrote in the memo to the FBI that Page was a source. Clinesmith altered the memo to say that he was not, a change that arguably allowed the FBI to extend a wiretap order that it had for Page.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday again warned once again that if Vice President Joe Biden won the election, it would benefit China.

“If Biden wins, China wins. It’s as simple as that,” Trump said, adding that the former vice president was “surrendering our children’s future to countries like China.”

The president spoke during a campaign rally in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on Tuesday evening.

“China wants Joe Biden so badly,” he said.

Trump recalled Biden’s career of passing policies that allowed companies to offshore important jobs, loosen up restrictions on the American borders, and sending Americans into foreign wars.

“I am running for reelection to keep jobs at home, to put violent criminals behind bars and to ensure that the future belongs to America, not China and other countries,” Trump said.

He criticized Biden for supporting bad trade deals such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) and supported allowing China into the World Trade Organization (WTO).

“For half a century, Joe Biden shook hands with blue-collar workers and then he turned around and immediately stabbed them in the back,” Trump said.

The president warned voters that Biden and his “friends” in Washington destroyed their communities.

A screengrab of the text message she received from one of her stylists, and obtained by Fox News, said: “I’ll be there at 2:45 tomorrow. Pelosi assistant just messaged me to do her hair.”

“I was like, are you kidding me right now? Do I let this happen? What do I do?” Kious told Fox News, while noting that she "can’t control” what her stylists do if they rent chairs from her, as “they’re not paying” at this time.

Kious cast Pelosi’s visit as a double standard.

“It was a slap in the face that she went in, you know, that she feels that she can just go and get her stuff done while no one else can go in, and I can’t work,” Kious told Fox News, adding that she “can’t believe” the speaker didn’t have a mask on. CNN’s Chris Cillizza has become the butt of the joke online after he said that designating unrest in Kenosha and Portland as “riots” is a ploy by Trump. The photo in the article seems to be at odds with the spin, though.

CNN’s political commentator Chris Cillizza has faced a torrent of mockery from conservatives, who accused him of whitewashing violence festering in Kenosha, Wisconsin and Portland, Oregon after he opined that referring to the looting, vandalism and arson in both cities as rioting is unjustified and a “desperate” political ploy by US President Donald Trump.

“To hear Trump and his allies tell it, the situations unfolding in Portland, Oregon, and Kenosha, Wisconsin, in response to several high-profile shootings by the police of Black men is rioting, plain and simple,” Cillizza wrote in the piece titled ‘'Protests' or 'riots?' It makes a BIG difference.’

Trump's efforts to label what is happening in major cities as "riots" speaks at least somewhat to his desperation, politically speaking, at the moment.

The choice of the cover photo, which shows two riot police standing in front of the scorched carcass of a burning building, did not escape the netizens’ attention, triggering a meme-fest.

Critics have also pointed out that it was Portland police, not Trump, who have declared a riot multiple times in some 100 days since the violence first broke out there.

POTUS retweeted this tweet several hours ago. I went to this guy's twitter page and most of his other tweets were about the shooting in Portland and the account is written in both Spanish & English mixed.

For some reason he included this tweet about the incident that happened in the NYC subway in Oct. 2019. When asked why, he responded about incidents that happened in Chili.

Senior Liberal MP denounces 'totalitarian' Chinese rule on secret tape

Liberal Party elder and former defence minister Kevin Andrews has launched a savage attack on the Chinese government in a private party forum, saying President Xi Jinping was running "the most complete totalitarian regime that we've seen probably on the face of this earth".

In what are among the most unguarded comments yet about China by an Australian government MP, Mr Andrews, who chairs the human rights sub-committee of Australia's joint standing committee on foreign affairs, defence and trade, accused the "regime of Xi Jinping" of "trampling on human dignity, on human rights in China".

He said China had an "egregious" human rights record in Hong Kong and its troubled western province of Xinjiang, and had displayed "bellicose nationalism from President Xi Jinping" in the South China Sea. He accused the Victorian government of "adding propaganda value" to the Chinese Communist Party by signing up to its contentious Belt and Road Initiative.

Mr Andrews made his comments on August 13 in an online forum alongside embattled cabinet minister Michael Sukkar as the pair tried to encourage members of Christian church networks to sign up new Liberal Party members to stave off a preselection challenge in Mr Andrews' seat of Menzies.

Asked by one participant on the call if Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews had committed "high treason" with his Belt and Road Initiative agreement with China, Kevin Andrews said: "If we don't stand up to it now, it's going to do a lot more damage to the people of China and to the rest of the world."

Minister accuses foreign governments of exploiting 'proud Australians'

Foreign governments are meddling in multicultural communities, harassing and exploiting "proud Australians" to further their own causes, according to Australia's Immigration Minister.

Alan Tudge will use his speech to the National Press Club today to raise his concern about the reach of foreign governments in Australia.

"Members of our diverse communities have been both victims of interference and used as vectors to engage in foreign interference," he will say.

"Despite now being proud Australians, some communities are still seen by their former home countries as 'their diaspora' — to be harassed or exploited to further the national cause."

The Minister doesn't name the countries responsible for this harassment.

But the ABC has been told that the Federal Government is increasingly concerned about the way the Chinese Government has been trying to consolidate its political influence in the Chinese-Australian community.

Australian security officials have also observed the way the Chinese Government has intensified monitoring and intimidation of some Chinese students and political dissidents.
